Guilty as charged! I love this vid. Killer chords, bass = crazy, drums sick, lead vocals right on! Outstanding job guys!
Fr i just KEEP COMING BACK
god its so good.
Got to play this song for my highschool marching band last year and I took some inspiration for this version!
They. Transcribed. And. Sang. The. Piano. Solo. Hot. Damn.
While doing some dance ...
It's crazy. I listened to this and was like holy crap that's from the piano solo
Hold on. It’s cool that you like instrumental stuff but it’s unnecessary and rude for you to degrade the hard work this group put in. Chill and if you don’t like this, go listen to something else. It’ll be a better use of your time
@@eliotmin I wasn't degrading it, and I was commenting and liking the video to support the artists. But I personally and opinionatedly feel that adding random lyrics to what is recent work of art AND selling it on itunes is a bit disrespectful mainly because the composer just passed away. I am also just assuming that they are not paying for rights but I doubt they are as many of these types of groups do not.
I'm sure the artists appreciated your support. I'd LOVE having someone call a part of my performance "stupid"!
This was arranged, performed, and uploaded before Roy Hargrove passed away. And they aren't selling this on iTunes. But those are beside the point. They did something interesting and unique and I daresay Roy would have enjoyed it.
This is the A Cappella Academy’s most harmonically colorful performance that I personally have ever heard.
That intro was perfect !!! I wish I was half as good
Fortunately, the human voice does not have the same harmonic limitations as the piano.
Whoever arranged this is really, really good.
i did it , thanks
O S actually I did
LYRICS!
Hey guys! The lyrics featured in this adaptation of Strasburg were written by Amanda Taylor, who arranged this piece & directed our group. They are:
Take a little time and think of you and me
Maybe think about the places that you want to see
Make a little happy on the St. Denis
Let's enjoy all the time we have to sit and daydream
Imagine all the things I'd like to do with you
You, baby
I can feel the love and it'll be here soon
There is peace and an easiness here in the afternoon
Baby let's enjoy the ride
Let the minutes go on by
Tell me when you need to go
But I like being by your side
Would you give me all your love
You're the one I'm dreaming of
I can never get enough
You are the one
(You're the one, you are the one)
*scat soli*
Take a little time and think of you and me
(Take a little time and think)
Maybe think about the places that you want to see
Make a little happy on the St. Denis
Let's enjoy all the time we have to sit and daydream
Wonderfully imagined and very fitting. As far as I am concerned these ARE the lyrics for SSD! ;)
You don't know if Roy Hargrove had the chance to listen to that before his death ?
Incredible work beautiful! I was hoping to get hold of this arrangement for a choir I am pulling together next year for Generations in Jazz and was wondering if you could help me at all? ❤️❤️
Thank u so much !
The work Amanda did with harmonization in this piece is stunning!
RIP ROY HARGROVE. This is amazing work
this slaps just as hard as the original and that's really saying something
really doesnt this is garbage
@@jakeabt473 Chill, dafuq is wrong with you lmao
They transcribed and harmonized Gerald Clayton's piano solo!!! 😭😭😭😭❤❤❤❤
Seriously, how much time did they spend on that...
@@ziruini5071 $7
O S maybe they bought it but to memorize and learn all the harmonies and sing it that well must have taken time.. also maybe they didn’t buy it either, you never know
@@ziruini5071 i know i was just kidding lol. you were talking about time spent but i mentioned money 🤣 btw the gurl in the black dress is my gurlfrend
O S yea i figured you were a bit but that you were also implying they bought the transcription
Hi, people go on long rants about how there is nothing better than a high belt but Henny, lemme tell you, there is NOTHING better than the warmth in an alto and contralto's voice!!!!
Amen!!! Belts are great, but altos are the best that warmth is the goddess breathing
Scatting in unison. That was f***ing amazing😭 the harmonies were so good too
I assume you know it wasnt improvised, and just didnt know that that is part of how scat singing is defined. But scat singing is improvised. This is super cool either way though
Charles Gamble lmao I’m aware that it wasn’t improvised, obviously it’s rehearsed😂. Doesn’t change how good it was
@@charlesgamble4670 charles gaymble
This song is a new standard. And Amanda Taylor, the arranger, deserves some _serious_ props for this version. I mean, serious props. This takes a great piece of art and makes me feel something new. Just... wow.
my choir teacher was in ‘groove for thought’ with amanda and we got this piece. we didn’t get to preform it though :(
@@Ldawg42069 I checked out Groove for Thought based on your comment. Wish they were still together! Looks like Amanda Taylor's now in a group called saje with Sara Gazarek, who's also fabulous. But still... this arrangement is the the equal of anything Groove for Thought has done. It's like Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross came to the 21st Century.
That darn replay button’s asking for it 😡😡
HAHAH TOO REAL
omg eliot
LOOP RIGHT CLICK...on computer works!
im so dead
"Its rewind time"
WE! DID! THAT! i’m obsessed i love u guys
madeline barnes Awesome work that you can capitalize on on your RUclips channel, Madeline!!
How can I find more of your group for my high school vocal jazz group to listen to? I can only find this song! I want more! You all are amazing!
who did the writing out for this chart? Would love to get in contact with them to get a copy of the chart. I can hear the live performance influence ;)
Mary Meese unfortunately this group was only put together temporarily, but we have a track coming out on the 2019 a cappella academy album. it’s a cover of kurt elling’s leaving again/wee small hours. should be out in june!
Davis Chong amanda taylor arranged this! you can find her on her facebook page: facebook.com/AmandaTaylorSongs/
Roy Hargrove is smiling in heaven right now
this is all i’m gonna listen to for the rest of my life now thanks
maybe we kan lissen 2gedder ... lyk... boyfrend && gurlfrend :*-)
They used Gerald Clayton's solo, that why it sounds so good.
So what ?
@@Emeranux Gerald Clayton is a monster and that solo is a great example of his style.
Its his solo they litterally transcribe his solo dude ^^
@@Emeranux yeah it's an adaptation of his solo.
Emeranux not literally, it's adapted for voices.
I strongly wish he had been able to enjoy this wonder before his passing away.....RIP Roy Hargrove.
Charitojazzy ...yes...
He saw & shared it on his Facebook page a few days before he passed
i texted him the link. he saw it and loved it
Every time I revisit this one it always blows my mind they transcribed Gerald Clayton’s PIANO solo🔥🔥🔥
THIS is the kind of music acapella groups should be singing
I LOVE the alto soloist O.M.G. ANd thE soprano has such a beautIFul voice!! She didn't even seem phased by the high notes
still obsessed with this
Probably the best jazz choral I've seen so far. Omg.
I'm still so upset that this isn't available with that years Spotify albums. I want this on my playlist! I'm still coming back to listen after 3 years.
0:46 ここの響きが最高!
This harmony is AWESOME!!!
2:07 that octave leap...my godddd!!!! RIP Roy, you’re so loved!
Ok but did Amanda Taylor also write those lyrics??? WTH is this genius arranger
my choir teacher is homies with Amanda Taylor the arranger, we got this piece a few years ago and it was awesomeeeeeee. we never got to preform it though
Who dares dislike this divine creation?
Art Zaldivar Haters!
there may not be a better vocal performance on record DAMN
It's a crime this isn't one of the recorded songs! What a fantastic arrangement and performance!!! Amanda Taylor giving this kids fantastic rep as always
I have listened to this a billion times. I thrive on Emily's dance @ 2:30
Damm, respect. The transcribed that complete solo. It sounded awesome 👏🏻
Thanks so much dear!!!
Girl you lead singer are the real deal!
Roy would be so proud
YAS YAS, more of this pleeeeeaaase!!!
Wow I would expect your comment to be relevant, do people don't know what a beast are you?
@@wislian i guess they don't. I need thee is the soundtrack on my life since like 7 years ago or so
Duuuuude you should do some jazz stuff too! you know how legendary that would be?
@@wislian no one knows who this poo poo is
Roy would have been so proud. Rest In Paradise Legend
Just when you think that you have heard and seen it all....WOW👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Wow!!!Fantastic performance!!!
Roy Hargrove would’ve approved
This pure magic. Love to see that people still love Jazz and the great late Roy Hargrove😪
I hope this video will never be deleted from RUclips ;)
Absolutely mindblowing sounds so close to the original
Everbody has his/her own unique, wonderful attitude. WOW!
they didn’t have to snatch my wig so hard and yet they did
I love the quotes from Gerald Clayton’s solo (pianist from the original). I typically find it sacrilegious to do a cappella covers of jazz standards but this was tasteful and done beautiful. Congratulations this is an achievement of music.
Its not some quotes its the whole solo from him !
Emeranux yeah im sorry i didnt really mean like “they just quoted him” sorry if that was the impression
@@yourmomsfavoritegayit's hardly sacrilegious Sam, it's a movement called vocalese made famous by Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. You should check them out. Start with 'Centrepiece'
@@androgeniusmusic6012 pompous fool
@@Emeranux Yeah, only Clayton's last chorus is missing. They changed some small melody parts and rhythms to be able to sing it smoother (which is totally fine and completely normal with vocal arranging). I love this version! It pays respect to the amazing live performance of the quintet! :)
Not sure how I feel about the dancing, but gotta give these cats credit. They sounded great and paid homage to RH. Respect
I am in love with Amanda Taylor
I am still obsessed with this.
That was sick. Holy crap I know Roy is looking down smiling and bopping
Really fantastic job on this. I think Roy would be really proud to see his music is in great hands.
I can watch this over n over again

thanks!
Best a cappella academy performance I've seen. Hands down. Amazing work wow
yeah, they did that. WOW
Spectacular! And they did the whole piano soloist’s part too. Amazing!
2:17 you can tell that they listen to many versions of this tune because it’s at this moment that they quote one of Gerald Clayton’s solos from another popular vid. Legit vocalists right here folks!!!
this was arranged by someone else but i get you
So sad to hear of the passing of the great talent who composed this tune, Roy Hargrove. If even possible, this magnificent acapella version of one of his best works sounds just a bit more sweet. Rest In Power, Roy!
I love the harmonies, this is crazy
Very impressive one of my favorite modern jazz song
look at my beautiful humans ugh 🙌🏼❤️
This is utter perfection...
Cant get over how amazing it is..well done everyone..
This solo is unbelievable!
I cropped it from 3:04 and made it my phone ringtone, this is such a great arrangement you guys did! Pure Love!
Art Zaldivar my favourite section also. Taking the piano accompaniment from the sax solo in the original track and just blasting it out. Genius work
Awesome. Really, really, really worth listening to in a proper sound environment to hear dat bass.
I'm listening to this for an audition but I'm like legit obsessed with it now. Thanks.
the fact that I can say im friends with people this talented actually blows my mind??? I LOVE and MISS yall so much :,) wow all love
I can't even imagine the amount of work this must have been o_o

Thank you for this. I'm just arriving home in Baltimore from Roy's celebration of life in Ny. I turn on RUclips and this was the first video that popped up. AWESOME JOB.
I’m obsessed with this 😍
I legit got goose bumps listening to this! Amazing!!
This is so outstanding my brain can't even...
Wow!! Beautiful tribute to Roy Hargrove Quintet's legendary performance at the New Morning Club in Paris.
Oh my how have I only just found this. Complicated brilliance that is simply breathtaking… on repeat…
They Killed it.....
I've listened to it 10 times already! Damn! These young cats are rocking this modern classic!
One of the best a cappella pieces I've ever heard. Congrats and thank you to all of you who arranged, directed and SANG! I have this on a continual loop and can't stop listening to it.
I just cannot BELIEVE this
This was hands down the BEST one I've heard from the academy. This was amazing
This is my most favorite video of all time, it gives me such inner peace and happiness, truly
the timing of this...

RIP Roy....he’d be proud. This is perfect
So love this song !
R.I.P Roy Hargrove, hearing this was not only really enjoyable but so emotional, you guys nailed it :)
Stunning! I got chills. How about that lead alto?!?! #chops
Is the sheet music for this arrangement available anywhere?
TOP NOTCH!!! Love this Jazzy Feel! Becky killed it!!!
Omg yup This is my favorite song by my friend Roy ...I knew him personally My Gosh this is amazing!
Roy influenced so many musicians. Example of his greatness.
Awesome - pure genius!
It sounds like this group has been singing together for years!
Oh this was effortlessly excellent
You guys got me emotional very much. Damn we miss you so much ROY
The fact that this doesn't have more views is absolutely criminal. Stunningly clean performance!
Just want to let you know I've been listening to this about 10 times a day this past week. So, so good. Love it!!!
This is more soulful and swings harder than most instrumental covers of this tune that I've heard. Really well done.
Phenomenal.
Saw this on my feed was like nah no ones gonna do a good a Capella version of Strasbourg... was pleasantly surprised, good job!
