    Great video... from a guy that started on a tascam 4track cassette "Studio" recorder back in the day.

    • @TheoreticallyMedia
      @TheoreticallyMedia  Год назад +1

      It’s funny that I see a lot of folks using the tascam again. Almost as an effect in the chain in order to get that analog hiss and sound. That’s the stuff that always makes me bummed that I’ve lost/sold so much gear over the years. No matter what the thing is, it eventually becomes “vintage gear” and thus is sought after!
      (To be honest, I’ll just use something like RC-20 to get that tape wobble/hiss sound!)

    Lots of Abbleton tutus are made for a Midi synth player audience. It's good to watch one for guitar players. I've tried recording the old-school way with a real amp and mic so far and so far so good.

    Really appreciate this. I'm totally new to recording software & all of the videos I've seen gloss over some aspect, assuming I already understand it. You put yours together in an easy to understand way & I look forward to more! Very excited to see the information on how to make custom drum tracks in ableton.

      Awesome to hear! And that is EXACTLY why I started these videos. I think a lot of RUclips lesson stuff tends to ignore or gloss over the foundational stuff. Either it is pros thinking "everyone knows this" or it just isn't interesting enough for them to make a video about.
      But I think that leads to these knowledge gaps-- Where someone knows some advanced ideas, but is too embarrassed to ask for clarity on a basic topic!
      Now, after all that said: I have to go find a youtube tutorial on how to replace the blades of a washing machine. I hope there's a LG tech out there that took my approach to fixing dishwashers! 😀

    I just got my Epiphone SG and I've been wondering how can I play it through my computer and adding some effects on it. As a beginner, it was hard and overwhelming for me to set all of this up but I was able to figure it out with your video's help. Wonderful tutorial

      @@TheoreticallyMedia As a beginner guitar player, I can say it all seemed pretty clear to me! I wasn't able to physically follow along - I've been struggling with the Reaper DAW for a while - but the concepts were well presented and I imagine anyone with Ableton wouldn't have a problem following along and learning. Good job!

    This is an excellent video. I actually like playing to a metronome, but I could not figure out keep metronome on while of was recording. I will just use a drum loop as you did. i should have thought of this. I guess that's why RUclips is so valuable. Thank you!

    • @TheoreticallyMedia
      @TheoreticallyMedia  2 года назад +3

      I'm so happy to hear this! This was actually my first video, and I've been thinking about revising it at some point, but really glad to hear that people are still getting something from it! As an FYI, to keep the metronome ON while recording, there's a little button at the top left corner, it looks like two circles: one filled, and on empty. It is sandwiched between the time signature and the 1 bar (global quantization). If you click that button on, the infernal clicking will begin as soon as you hit play!
      Again, thank you so much for watching!!

    I do have a question: I have a GT100 and like it very much. I have it set up with the scarlet such that the guitar inputs into the GT, the two outputs from the gt are input into the scarlet and the output on the scarlet is going to my speakers. Is this a doable configuration. Someone mentioned to me that I could set up the gt as a plugin as an alternative. The cool thing about the GT100 is that it connects to the computer via USB and then I can use boss tone studio to do some deep editing on the amplifiers and effects on the gt. Thanks for the video, it's most helpful.

    Since I'm new to this what I want to do instead of using an amp VST is record from my real Blackstar HT-1R amp's emulated output into my Scarlett Solo. The thought is to video my "live" home guitar performance from iPhone and later marry up the Ableton Live 11 Lite audio recording with it in a Video Editor for a final video clip result. I can add a drum track in Ableton, etc. Can that be done? Later on I'll try clean guitar input and the amp and effects VST's.

    Im using Ableton live lite, I'm using midi grooves from Ezrummer 3 so I can record my guitar over the track. For some reason I can't hear the drums when I go to record my guitar track over them, It will only let me hear them play back when I select the solo/cue button and only lets me select one at a time. Is there a solution to this?

      So happy you found it!! To be honest, as I'm planning it all out, there are a lot of non-guitar topics (like Keys/Midi, Mixing, and obviously drums) that I want to cover-- but I think the thought is: It'll all be taught from the viewpoint of a guitarist, since that's the only instrument I'm actually moderately proficient at!

    Im new to all of this and to guitar. Im having trouble when I play back what I record. The guitar sounds fine when Im playing and the sound is coming through my speakers. However when I playback the recording it cuts in and out and almost feels like I have a delay even though I am playing clean with no effects or plugins running. IId really appreciate some help sorting this out.
