      Do you do any one on one training? Singer/songwriter trying to get a handle Ableton. Thanks.

    • @AaronMatthies
      @AaronMatthies  4 года назад +3

      While Ableton might seem daunting at first, it's pretty easy once you get used to the basic layout and I think you'll be fine without any one on one training.
      I recommend just taking it slow and follow tutorials like this one whenever you get stuck. Try recording a guitar like in this video, then try recording vocals with a mic. Then if your audio interface has multiple inputs, try recording both at the same time. Take things one step at a time and you'll be fine.
      Forums and social media groups dedicated to Ableton are also a great source of help when you get stuck with something. That's how I learned to use Ableton.

    Is there a way to have the effect (like distortion) going while recording? Or are you always playing clean?

    • @AaronMatthies
      @AaronMatthies  4 года назад +2

      If you want to use your amp's drive channel or you have a distortion pedal, you can record with that tone into Ableton. Otherwise, recording with a clean tone allows you to tweak and change your effects at any time. You can also add effects before you hit record so you can hear them while recording. I recommend experimenting with different ways of recording with your effects so you can get an idea of what suits you best.

    So I was with you on every step until you started hearing your guitar through your speakers. The section that you used to enable your guitar doesn't exist on my screen (The Ext. In section). Mine goes right from Audio 1 to that section on the right with the "1, S, Record Button, C etc...). How do I bring up that Ext. In section? I'm using a Microphone to record my acoustic. I'm not plugging the guitar directly in. Maybe that's the difference?

    Wish me luck, 'cause despite being 24 I'm the most fucking tremendous computer moron of an eastern hemisphere. You literally could show me any single panel possible to exist in any program and I wouldn't be able to use it a proper way. Trust me, I'd fuck up anything new I'd see in the computer, even my tech-freak brother admitted that I can mess up stuff that was created in way so no one could mess it up. Newest technology of phones and especially computers is so unintuitive that often I have no damn clue how to turn something off and I have to go for tutorials(I learned how to turn off my mac thanks to tutorial). By the way my brother has always glorified macs for being way better to work than Windows, that they're so simple and highly intuitive and now that I have it I can't reach anything further than a fucking desktop, now I immensely .
    My dream is to become musician but it brings me to tears how dumb I'm with computers which are crucial to record tracks and share your music.
    I know no one's gonna read it, but I needed a fucking space to cry out.

    Thanks for posting. That really helped me I was getting frustrated that I couldn’t hear the recorded part, didn’t realise monitoring had to be off.
    I’d like to add some drum loops to recorded guitar but whilst when I click on a drum pattern I hear it through my speakers when I drag them to a midi track I have to play the kit (keys on Mac or midi keyboard) I just want the pattern as the sample sounds. I’m at ground zero here as you can tell. Perhaps future Ableton videos you may consider adding simple drum loops to a guitar part? I can’t see any drum loops in Ableton and I have the full version. I’m sure it’s just me getting the hang of it though. Keep up the good work. Thanks again.

    I've done everything in this video, with the exception of using a Focusrite Scarlett Solo, and I can't hear anything from my PC speakers.

      What interface and audio driver are you using?

    Very nice tutorial, thank you so much. Something I wanted to mention (in case it helps anyone else) has to do with some excessive feedback coming from somewhere. My Gretsch is plugged into my interface, connected to my laptop, and I figured out that by disconnecting the laptop power cable, this greatly reduces the feedback. I think it has something to do with the grounding, and maybe the single coil pickup in my guitar.

    This video was useful up to a certain point. I’m using volt 176 and just trying to hear my guitar out of the computer speakers and I hear nothing. I’m using windows. If anyone can help, please let me know. I’m searching everywhere for answers.

      Did you read the guide I linked to in the description? In it I talk about how you need to use an audio driver like ASIO4ALL if you want to hear your guitar through your computer speakers. Start there and if you're still stuck, leave another comment with info like what driver you're using.

    This is frustrating. My icons don't look exactly like yours with the Ableton Live 11 Lite that I have, I'm using a focusrite scarlett solo interface, I CAN hear my guitar when playing it, but when recording it the waveform doesn't show up and doesn't seem to record it. This video doesn't seem to help with the slight different icons that I have and no idea how to fix my issue

    This is great! Everything works, but now I can’t use my headphones? It plays through the computer speaker, but now when I plug in headphones?

    • @AaronMatthies
      @AaronMatthies  3 года назад

      Without knowing the details of your setup, the speaker output and the headphone output will likely be seen by Ableton as two different output options, so you'll probably need to play around with the routing options to use your headphones or switch back and forth.

    I am having a weird issue where I can see all the audio levels in my tracks within Ableton when I play my guitar, but the audio is not playing though my speakers for some reason.
    I'm using 'Focusrite USB ASIO' as the driver type with the 4i4, has anyone else had this issue?

      Do you get any other sounds from Ableton through your speakers or is it just the guitar track not working? Are you talking about speakers connected to your audio interface or your PC speakers?

    Thank you for the video Sir, when I choose ASIO input and focusrite usb output, there is no output audio. Then how can I hear the output sound from my PC?

    • @AaronMatthies
      @AaronMatthies  4 месяца назад

      If you choose Focusrite USB output as your output, you will only hear an output when you plug speakers into the Focusrite's output jacks. To hear the output on your PC, you need to use a driver such as ASIO4ALL and select your PC's output instead.

    I use the Line 6 POD GO as my audio interface for recording. Even though my audio monitoring is on, I’m not able to hear the audio. Any tips?

    • @AaronMatthies
      @AaronMatthies  3 года назад

      Are you using the Line 6 audio driver or something else? Have a read through the POD GO manual as it does talk about hardware monitoring vs DAW monitoring and it might help.

    So when i go into my audio effects, i don have the "Amp" option there. Also i have a Nalex ninja VST plugin, and when i put it, the sound do changes but it sounds like shit. Any help? :D

    • @AaronMatthies
      @AaronMatthies  3 года назад

      The 'Amp' plugin and a few others on my list is only available on certain versions of Ableton. I haven't tried the Nalex plugin yet, so I'm not sure what might be happening. Maybe see if you can get a different free VST to work fine, that might help you figure out what is going wrong with the Nalex plugin.
