I broke on this one, y'all... Tears flowed as I listened to Susan sing the lyrics I've lived with all my years. I'm so proud that this performance was in her hometown, Boston...which is my home, as well. I met Susan through a friend of hers whom I was dating way back when. Wonderful person & talent not to be ignored. We jammed a lil' that night. Great fun. If you happen to read this Susan, it's Joe Nadeau... 'Hey'!! You're making the finest music on the planet... Congrats & God Bless y'all. Derek... You are an absolute conduit from the Heavens. Such a joyous cry... I needed it. Thank you.
And he's NOW the best in my opinion I've been playing since i was 12 makeing. A living at it at 15 derek was great playing Layla as a little dude my gosh so outta sight wearing a blue baseball hat just a going to town man
Well Derek's finally done it. The finest slide performance of Statesboro Blues since his uncle Duane did it at the Fillmore in 1970. I knew it was coming at some point, cause this kid has an excellent ear. He never plays a bad note, and the microtones are absolutely on point. Congratulations Derek, you've given us a real heart full of joy with your slide brother.
I'm perfectly aware of Derek's lineage. I purposely wrote "uncle Duane" in there as a figurative compliment, because his slide playing has risen to St Duane levels. Now please don't write me back saying Duane Allman was not a saint.
The sheer joy I get from the opening chords. And then there is the rest of the song!! Never fails to leave a massive smile on my face. I'm so glad the only versions of this from TTB are live. Great tribute to the 1971 live Allmans album.
Oh my goodness!! I'm having a hard, very hard time behaving myself!!!! Love you❤ both so much!!! Make sure you 2 have many, many babies, please! I'm retired, I'd be honored to be the third grandma or nanny. I raised 4 boys and over half the neighborhood in 1999 when there Dad died!! I'm taking care, raising my 13 yr. grandson
Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low You got no nerve, baby To turn uncle John from your door I woke up this morning, I had them Statesboro Blues I woke up this morning, I had them Statesboro Blues Well, I looked over in the corner, baby And Grandpa seemed to have them too Well, my momma died and left me My poppa died and left me I ain't good looking, baby But I'm somewhat sweet and kind I'm goin' to the country Baby, do you want to go?na 'Cause if you can't make it, baby Your sister Lucille said she wanna go And I sure will take her I love that woman Better than any woman I've ever seen Well, I love that woman Better than any woman I've ever seen Well, she treat me like a king, yeah, yeah, yeah And she look like a doggone queen Oh, wake up momma, turn your lamp down low Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low You got no nerve, baby To turn uncle John from your door
Blind Willie McTell wrote and recorded "Statesboro Blues" in 1928. It was adapted to a more contemporary version and recorded by Taj Mahal in 1968. It's his version that inspired the Allman Brothers version captured on the Live at Fillmore East recording. richard -- "I am convinced that the future music of this country [the USA] must be founded on what are called Negro melodies. These can be the foundation of a serious and original school of composition, to be developed in the United States. These beautiful and varied themes are the product of the soil. They are the folk songs of America and your composers must turn to them." - Antonín Dvořák, 1892.
I love this band. I like Susan’s singing, but she doesn’t have to sing every song. Mike Mattison would be more appropriate for some of the lead vocals than Susan. I’m not complaining, just would like to hear mike come out more. I miss his voice in Derek’s old band. Please Susan, don’t Yoko.

The same Joe Nadaeu who used to sing for KWS? I'm a fan of yours as well as TTB if that's the case.
@@mikeschenk4730 That's correct, Mike...thx for the kind words. God bless.
Best slide playing I have heard since Duane.
MAybe even better
Some people swear DT is the reincarnation of Duane
And he's NOW the best in my opinion I've been playing since i was 12 makeing. A living at it at 15 derek was great playing Layla as a little dude my gosh so outta sight wearing a blue baseball hat just a going to town man
Why does there always have to be a fkn comparison.
DON'T LEAVE OUT BROTHER WAYNE !
I am so glad to be alive to listen to this!
Thankfully, the world will still get to hear music like this, and especially this tune! Awesome rendition.

Derek's uncle was Butch Trucks, not Duane.

Ok, well you posted that his "uncle " was Duane . So if not why say so?
Shit comment
There’s no band in the world that wouldn’t love to have Susan on lead guitar !
Lol
Gregg would APPROVE of this Message. Long Live Gregg Allman
Phil Grimes . Sure they are brothers.
He is an amazing Slide player. Greg used to feel like he was seeing Duane reborn.
OMG THIS IS TOOO GOOD !!! Thanks so much for sharing
Glad you liked it!!
Greatest Show on Earth, what a great band ❤️❤️❤️
One heluva powerful jam by Derek Trucks to hit that final note

Should bring back memories of the Statesboro Blues on the Live at Ludlow Garage album. Sensational. Derek Trucks carries on!

They obviously speak the same language. Awesome. Thanks for sharing this.
Favorite song and Derek played memorable slide licks from the original. Susan…. she can sing and play the blues just fine.
Will most definitely miss Greg, what a great voice.
Sue can play the BLUES and ROCK! Great job by the band!
I'm a skydog kinda guy but Shit man this is perfect guys

Just a killer version!
5 yrs this is amazing
He has takrn over for Skydog as the best slide player in the world.
He’s great, but check out Sonny Landerth before you hand out the title of best slide guitarist.
We love you guy's !!!
The blues: delicious hot, disgusting cold. This has extra chillis
Great post crew!!
Glad youre digging it!
Susan can sing to this old fool anytime.
Derek nailed Duane's slide phrasing for the first part of the song. Unreal.
Now I know there’s such a thing as reincarnation. Derek is Duane in his next life. The two most amazing guitar players I’ve ever heard.
Mi raccomando non battiamo la fiacca,a suonare naturalmente in maniera naturale una voce indescrivibile da applausi veri
Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low
Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low
You got no nerve, baby
To turn uncle John from your door
I woke up this morning, I had them Statesboro Blues
I woke up this morning, I had them Statesboro Blues
Well, I looked over in the corner, baby
And Grandpa seemed to have them too
Well, my momma died and left me
My poppa died and left me
I ain't good looking, baby
But I'm somewhat sweet and kind
I'm goin' to the country
Baby, do you want to go?na
'Cause if you can't make it, baby
Your sister Lucille said she wanna go
And I sure will take her
I love that woman
Better than any woman I've ever seen
Well, I love that woman
Better than any woman I've ever seen
Well, she treat me like a king, yeah, yeah, yeah
And she look like a doggone queen
Oh, wake up momma, turn your lamp down low
Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low
You got no nerve, baby
To turn uncle John from your door
Susan and Bonney shore can holler the blues love them blue eyed soul sisters.
This is a great video of a great performance but let's be clear that the song is Blind Willie McTell's
the best of blues good!!
Susan is such a Boss! 💪🔥

Can Susan play the guitar or what?? Don't get me wrong, Derek is pretty good too 😉☺
Love my TTB better than anyone I have ever seen oh I love my TTB better than anyone I have ever seen got them TTB blues only until July 7th
I was born in Statesboro, apparently under a Bad Sign
Who wrote this tune? I first heard it by Taj Mahal.
Why does it show Greg on guitar ?
🌈🌈😇😇💜💜💥💥👍👍
💥👍💜🌈😇
Is it just me or does the bass player at 5:00 look like a Will Ferrell character?
It’s not fair to the people that have to solo after Derek
I think Susan sounds better with her Fenders. JMO
Tom Howland I'm yomiigf k mmmmmmm

fully agree
no good tone on her Les Paul
I don’t believe in reincarnation. However…
Love Susan's voice but put the guitar down.
Derek Trucks is as good or better than Duane, incredible!
