    Oh the irony, I found a pair of wood ducks on a vernal pond today. I didn't get much time with them and I didn't dare try to move to a better vantage point (was looking between fallen logs) for fear of spooking them. Then we came home I cooked dinner and what do I see pop up on RUclips your video of these beautiful wood ducks! Absolutely delightful!

      They're such tricky birds. It's always hard when you want to move to a better position, but you'll most likely spook them doing so. I'm glad I finally got them though. Best of luck to you in your own adventures!

    I am lucky enough to live in an area where Wood Ducks are fairly easy to find year round. Some locations they will let you get very close, with 20'. One lake is very consistent but the sight lines from shore aren't very good. Your floating blind would be very useful there. Even though the male gets all the attention I love the white around the females eye. I have not found a Wood Duck nest though.
    Another duck you may want to find is a Harlequin Duck. They are stunning. They migrate east west. They like rough water with rocky shores in the winter and in the summer they like isolated mountain streams with a bit of rapids. I know of a few places near me to find them in the winter but I have not found them in the summer.

      They truly are magnificent ducks, I was so happy with my time spent with them.
      Harlequin Ducks are absolutely stunning. I haven't done a video on them yet, but it's on the list. I've been lucky enough to have photographed them a number of times over the years and they never get old!

    likely, they're house hunting and said to each other "let's swim by again and that camouflage floating there might fit our housing needs" lol

      😂😂 you never know who might want to take up residence in my floating blind. I've had everything from muskrats to fish try to hop in with me before 🤣

    Another excellent video Jimmy, Wood Ducks are without a doubt the most beautiful of our North American Ducks. Even the hens are beautiful as well. We have a fairly large population of Woodies in our area and they are pretty easy to photograph, I really enjoy photographing them in the late spring when they have their Ducklings. We had a nest tree at one of our local marsh but a winter storm blew it down so I have to try to find another nest site. Thanks again for all your efforts to entertain and educate us and have a great week and lots of good shooting.

      They really are magnificent! Sounds like you're in a good area for them, I hope you're able to find a new nest tree this spring. I've seen a hen with ducklings in my area in previous years, but still haven't had luck finding the nest. Hope you're doing well, have a great week!

    Lovely shots of the wood duck shown at the end! A joy to my eyes, really!! Thanks for sharing this little adventure, Jimmy! (Goldeneyes also nest in trees, don't they? I mean it isn't superuncommon...)

    • @JimmyBreitenstein
      @JimmyBreitenstein  Год назад +1

      Thanks Ott! Based on what I've read there are a handful of cavity nesting ducks, but the ground nesters are definitely more common. But you're right, not super uncommon, it's something I'd love to photograph someday!

    Jimmy, I could imagine this video improved by hearing the voice commentary while watching the recorded footage you're talking about. The view of inside the blind gets boring after a while. I watched a lot of your videos, and it's starting to get harder not to skip some of the talking.

    • @JimmyBreitenstein
      @JimmyBreitenstein  Год назад +1

      That is great to know, I really appreciate the feedback. I've been trying to do more voice overs in my videos lately, I'll step it up a bit. Again, I really appreciate it 🙏

    • @mm8276352
      @mm8276352 Год назад +1

      @@JimmyBreitenstein I don't mean voiceovers in post. I mean interleaving the audio from you talking from inside the hide with video from outside the hide where currently there's just music. As a consequence, the videos would be a bit shorter. Voiceover works too, but the talking parts currently contain a bit too much repetition, I think.

      @@mm8276352 Oh, I see what you're saying. Yeah, I'll give it a try, I do tend to be a bit long-winded at times 😆 I appreciate the suggestion!
