My Dad used a Fender/Squire Jazz Bazz but with an 80's pedal (manual tone dial and a few other dials for pick-up and more for jazz) however, worked well with his other pedal, also from the late 80's where he could sound like Scorpions to swing as well as switch from rhythm to lead and sometimes bass as lead with a few mid-changes. It was a black and sea-green pedal and that's kinda what I remember when I played drums. It was a 4-man band with 2 people. I was just the drummer XD

Hi Hardly, can I afford one more question? I love your channel, the Ramones are my favorite band. I like play my guitar along with you. Why aren't you uploading new videos? We miss you so much !!!! Greetings from Czech republic.
I have been caught up in a big work project since Fall, and have experienced some delays that have caused it to take longer than expected. Luckily I should be free soon to create more content for this channel! I have been trying to upload some extra stuff in the meantime while I wait for the time to actually finish filming and editing more videos.
Thank you so much! I have combed over almost every piece of Ramones footage out there, listened repeatedly to isolated guitar tracks, studied the albums closely, and made careful comparisons to what techniques create the right sounds on my guitar with carefully replicated tones… for about a decade before recording my covers. My videos aren’t always 100% accurate but they are extremely close. On some songs I don’t try to replicate every strum pattern perfectly, and while I do try VERY hard to use the right chord voicings, there is still a chance Im wrong on some tracks… but I can generally tell very well. I’ve caught a lot of things that seem to have been missed in all other covers Ive seen prior. I make all these videos to give people a very close or near perfect reference for how the songs were originally played. No official books get as close as these videos, and a lot of info out there is blatantly incorrect. I wish I could assure 100% accuracy in my videos, but the amount of work it would take to be genuinely certain of every detail on every song for so many albums would be crazy! But I hope to have created a valuable resource here, for anyone who wants to learn/play the songs essentially as they were originally played. A number of the covers probably are 100% accurate but I won’t definitively claim that
Your playing sounds spot on to me. So far I can almost play the opening riff to Blitzkrieg Bop. A few weeks ago I asked my younger brother if he likes the Ramones. Of course he does. Then he told me he saw them in concert at the Hollywood Palladium in the 90's. So awesome. I never knew he went.

Laughed a lot for a black humor in the end, it`s great =) And I do so on my amp - reducing high frequencies to prevent string ringing. I just saw it in your video and made sure it was right. Sorry for bad Eng, I`m Eastern Europe))
I’m talking about using it before the distortion here, as this allows you to EQ the pickup if it is too bright and twangy, or simply not loud enough. However, you can totally put the EQ in the FX loop if you want to change the sound of the amp distortion itself. Basically, before amp EQ is to change the sound of the guitar, FX loop EQ is to change the sound of the amp.
@@HardlyRamone , me and some friends are going to start playing some covers of ramones, among other punk rock bands. I have two "Marhall dsl40cr" amps and the JCM800 studio 20watts". Have you had the opportunity to play with any of them? By the way, what would be the best bass, treble, middle, presence configuration, as a base to get a very close sound Ramones? I'm close in terms of sound, but I wanted to know your opinion. I play with a Les Paul. Thank you very much and good work
I have a few questions to smash into this if you don't mind. 1. I've noticed you are pretty skinny, I can't move my wrist like you do but I also lift weights and have a lot more muscle, am I doomed? 2. I've used amplitude, eleven rack within pro tools, vst rack in cubase, guitar rig 5, s gear , amplitude in my experience sounds the most realistic, I use a Les Paul and no matter the amp it sounds dark and heavy , is that just the way a Les Paul is going to sound?
1. I suppose it's possible that your wrist needs to be able to move pretty loosely, and weight lifting could hinder that with muscle tightness, but I don't know for sure. You do need a lot of strength in the arm and ability to power through a burn, so if you have that, that's really very good. I've been practicing martial arts for a looong time and that has been very good for lean muscle and stamina building. Johnny Ramone was a construction worker and also worked laying down metal pipes in the winter before the Ramones, so perhaps long hours of physical labor helped him in a similar way. If anything, I suppose you want to make sure your wrist stays flexible (there's a lot of stretching in martial arts). There might be some wrist stretching exercises online you could try? 2. I've seen many people get a good Ramones sound with Les Pauls, but I can see places where the tone might struggle to sound right. Depending on what Les Paul you have, the pickups could be too dark, but it'd have to be pretty severe. Dark-ish pickups are ideal for Ramones stuff, but things can get too murky at a certain point. Also note that when a pickup is closer to the strings, it has stronger bass response and your low E string is more likely to overpower the tone with a meaty sound. Backing the pickup away can even things out and thin the tone a little. And if it's not the pickups, the amps could just be too dark and/or too high gain. Classic Marshalls get pretty darn bright, a lot of Johnny's brightness came from the amps. People have also famously used Les Pauls with them to get bright and biting tones for a long time, so it's always possible your current amps just aren't cutting it, if the pickups aren't to blame. Also, make sure you're playing barre chords! Johnny made use of all six strings and a tone like his with only power chords is going to sound pretty flat and buzzy.
@@HardlyRamone wow, thanks for the thoughtful and comprehensive answers, for sure I don't play power chords , power chords were what I played when I was 15 and 16 just learning guitar. As for the Les Paul pickups, I have an Ed Elliot Mosrite Bridge Pickup 13k ohms I'm going to drop into the Les Paul, will probably sound pretty amazing, it looks to be the same size as a humbucker. But yeah, the current pickups sound so dark it's like everything sounds like metal.
Ha, fair enough! That is probably a question category I could have included, I do get a good handful of inquiries on the regular. I am a drummer in a band, but not a Ramones tribute, and I haven't really done anything like that. The concept of forming a tribute act does interest me though, I have a number of ideas that put a unique twist on "Ramones tribute" compared to anything we've seen before. I think fellow Ramones fans would really enjoy the show I have in mind, if I could find the right people for it. But it's not something I can pursue at the moment. The pandemic makes music stuff reeaally difficult... too difficult when I already have a primary career that I'm working to keep afloat.

good video bro!
Still waiting for the belt strap tutorial🙃
6:02 yep
@@yakobgulpenheimmer3275 That pickup should be awesome man. And no problem! Let me know how the swap goes ha
Why don't you get a Mosrite Ventures guitar?
I'd want a Ventures II and those cost a lot of money
@@HardlyRamone I know. You need one man!
@@johnhareiel5118 I do have a Hallmark Johnny Ramone guitar now which I do enjoy more than the strat
@@HardlyRamone I just ordered a white Chinese Johnny Ramone Mosrite Copy. You can get one from eBay for around $400. You really need one man!
A cover I’d wanna hear is “Roots of hatred”
Ha, wow! I'd need a Walter Lure for that one. I'll add it to the list

Your hair looks more like that of Joey than that of Johnny!
Yeah my hair isn't much like Johnny's, it's wavy and I let it grow it longer than he did most of the time.
So where are the new How To videos ? 7/24/23 So far good …. Seen them 14 times. Every lineup. R.I.P.
I know i'm late, but bruh, Two leather belts... That's Punk af man!

Basswood is pronounced like the fish not the instrument.
You mean... that nobody has ever asked you if you play/have played/will play guitar in a Ramones cover band???
Your head is chopped off in the video
Sorry but I can HARDLY see your head HARDLEY
He speaks , I nearly dropped my Beer 🍺, Interesting . Too realistic to be computer generated. Young chick here Melissa says your hot 🥵. Good show very enlightening.😂👍 P.S Frog Head 🤣
Nope, not computer generated ha! I'll have to speak for the tutorial series too, so it's something to get used to 🐸
