    Hyundai has settled several class action suits regarding their failing engines. This has been going of for 10 -15 years. Their issues continue. This is not a PVC issue. There is now a class action suit filed against Hyundai regarding the excessive oil consumption. Keep all your receipts for oil you purchase etc. as when this settles you very well may get reimbursed for your costs.

    Hmmm...just checked my dipstick. Oil was changed 5,000 miles ago. Oil is barely a little finger nail high. WTF. I brought it to the dealer as I had an extended warranty. They did a fuel service and said by the way get your oil changed ASAP. I thought that was weird. I should have put 2 and 2 together. They know something was wrong but don't want to tell the customer because the dealer would be responsible for the engine work not the warranty. The warranty expired last month after 10 years and my gas mileage is still worse than my 22 year old Porsche. Sounds like this engine has a major issue with carbon deposits. Why didn't I buy that used Lexus...

      Ah yea my engine did die at 150K I put $1200 to fix it and now I need an oil change every 700 miles NO JOKE. And I’ve taken great care of my 16 sonata. The worst part is when it died I DID take to a Hyundai dealer and they told me it’s not in the lawsuit or recall. So I repaired it 3rd party. But I called today since Hyundai sent out those letters for the HMA settlement and they told me the software update my car had in 2019 should of worked with the check engine (but it never did) and the dealership when it did die should of covered me.. but I missed the deadline to get reimbursed for the repairs August 9th of 2021 😢… so Hyundai LEGIT screwed me over. I did the right thing, I freeekin tried and I’m still stuck with a car that’s going to die soon. I’m so mad like I’m beyond upset about it all. I’m afraid to drive it and now Idk what to do. Some think that the problem is a result of the design to short pistons (to save engine moving weight / mass, and improve fuel mileage); and, the piston oil control rings becoming clogged with carbon -- thus, not clearing enough oil from the cylinder walls during each piston stroke. High detergent motor oil may help remove some of the carbon from the oil control rings ---MAY help.

    • @ejkk9513
      @ejkk9513 2 года назад +1

      That's completely wrong. Most transverse mounted engines are undersquare (taller piston travel, smaller bore). They have to be this way in order to fit into the engine bay with the transaxle. You can design around a tall engine. You might not be able to design around a WIDE engine. This engine has an 88mm bore, 97 mm stroke. It's actually quite a bit oversquare. If it was the other way around, those numbers would be reversed. Every manufacturer wants to use oversquare engines today as their thermal efficiency is higher. Basically, better fuel economy. We own this same engine, and it feels very fragile and makes uncomfortable noises. As a mechanic, my ears are tuned to hearing small details in car engines. And ours just doesn't sound right. It only has 110,000 miles, too.

      Try a good engine flush. GDI’s benefit from this since the Piston rings get clogged by carbon buildup and get stuck. Or you could have a bad PVC valve. The vale did nothing for me. I thought it was the Valve stem seals, and after a new Cylinder Head it smoked just as bad.
      I just tried LiquiMoly engine flush and my car already doesn’t smoke under hard acceleration.

    THIS IS NOT A PCV ISSUE!! just Google about the class action lawsuit. There are a lot of components in this engine design for better fuel mileage that is causing it to burn oil by the way, take that suit off and quit pretending you are a racecar driver.

  • @dool1002
    @dool1002 Год назад +8

    The problem is the engine design itself. It's a GDi engine, meaning gas is directly injected in the chambers where the combustion occurs. Thus, increasing temperatures causes burning of the oil (this occurs whenever the pistons are fired). Its a clever design but Hyundai should've ran extensive long-term trial testings.
    Note you can see "blue" smoke coming out of your muffler, meaning its buring "synthetic" oil.
    Also its not all Hyundai models, for example Hyundai Rondo uses DOHC engine (a reliable engine that been design for almost a century).

    However!!!!! My 2018 had 36,500 easy miles and the light came on. It was 2.5 quarts low. Hyundai service bulletin said its the after market oil filters and even one of Hyundai s factory filters. So, since June I've burned another 2 quarts in 5,000 miles. The car barely has 42,000 and there are zero leaks anywhere on the engine and it's not burning oil. I think it's sludging up inside the engine walls. I'm very mad at Hyundai

      Yes. We have a 2017 Sonata.
      I had the dealer change mine out after they said they couldn't find an oil leak. I told them it's leaking oil out of the exhaust pipe. They told me that after 100K miles, according to hyundai-it's acceptable to burn 1 qt. of oil in between oil changes! I told them it's not acceptable to me! I asked them if they checked the PCV valve and they said no because hyundai doesn't require them to check that for an oil leak out the exhaust! WHAT? I couldn't believe it either. So I asked the service dept. to have the mechanic check the PVC valve. Long story short-it was bad! Unfortunately this didn't stop the oil leaking out the exhaust. Was told by hyundai that we'd need to do an upper engine flush to the tune of $600 to fix the oil leak. The leak stopped for about a month-it's back. Looking at getting a new car. This is the first time I've had a bad experience with hyundai. From everything I've read here-I've been exceptionally lucky. Hope this helps.

      It can but usually NOT. I have a KIA oil burner that started at 50K or less. It just went through a 2nd piston soak at dealer and waiting to see if this one helped. If not, expecting a new engine.

    2015 Hyundai sonata 2.4
    I just took it in for the second oil consumption test for every 1000 miles.
    No oil leaks what so ever
    Two quarts low in a 1000 miles! Two more tests for that .. then..
    They are starting a engine cleaner test 3 more times to see if that fixes the problem.
    Wtf? I'm going to be at Hyundai more than I'd like..

      ****>>>>> Hey readers. Even some Honda. and Toyotas are oil burners. I know because I have looked at RUclips videos for a whole year on this oil burner issue. Audis and BMW too. It is usually GDI and stuck piston rings. Most time a good B-12 piston soak will free the rings. Others use tough engine flushes.. EPR109, AMSOIL, Liqui Moly etc. Some just put in Yamalube ring free shock treatment . Change your oil at 2.5 to 4 k. Run top tier gas...use Techron gas or other high PEA treatments...and try to rev up engine more to burn the carbon outmore. Use Valvoline restore & protect oil!! FIX it fast before you pay $$$$$$ for a cat converter!!!

    USA drivers are going to go broke taking care of these new oil burner cars with GDI, turbos, crap piston rings and catalytic converters...These issues are ALL over RUclips!!!!
