This has Casey Neistat written all over this video... That being said... This video IS AMAZING! The angle, the crisp quality, the short dialogue, the quick cut clips, the angles (this is debatable), and the overall experience was both entertaining, informative, and inspirational! Great job man!

    Couple of questions.
    1) will this brake properly?
    2) are all the parts in the description? Don't really see the ESC in there.
    3) how long will it take to put all of this together properly?
    4) what would you guys think Is the best thing to use as cover for the parts at the bottom? I was thinking about making some type of carbon fiber mold, but I'm not sure yet.

    Hi Matt,
thanks for this video, the style is obviously an hommage to the Neistat man, but very well done.
More importantly, the build is clean and very inspiring. I'm recycling loads of 18650s at the moment and my first project will be a longboard in this style. More soon...

GREAT video you put together Bro!!!!
You are very articulate and show in great depth on how everything works. I HATE how other dudes say they're going to build a board and just show or quickly explain what they did or what they used.
I loved how you even showed your wiring diagram.
I'm looking to build one for my son who is 14 (I will also be building one for myself so we can cruise together), but that ESC (VESC) is a bit intimidating. *COULD YOU PLEASE*....... Do a SLOW Step-by-step tutorial on the complete setup on the VESC??? I know there are videos on it, but you do A MUCH BETTER job at explaining things and I have a feeling that is just your style which will trickle into the VESC video if you were to do one.
    THANX Bro!!!!!!
I look forward to more of your content!!!!!!

the C rating never changes, it has double the ah so if it were a "5c discharge" battery and 3ah (capacity) it can discharge at 15amps (current), is 2 were place in parallel the capacity is double, the c rating stays the same though , so it is 6ah x 5c = 30amps

Nice job on video and on the board! Two questions come to my mind:first, you weld the wires from side by side. It might be better interlacing ( a wire inside the other ) before welding them; and second, you will probably need two motors, one for each wheel, the way it's done, you'll get all the traction on one wheel only. But man, good job! Waiting for Part 2.

Instead of soldering side to side, don't solder the ends, put the two wires in to each other (as if you'd put two toothbrushes hair to hair and push them in) then solder. That gives you an inline joint, and more structural integrity. There's no chance that this solder joint will break apart from fatigue, where as the other, will.

+Jake Methner i am using ncr18650bd cells, they are kind of pricey but very high quality (3200mah, 10a discharge rate). i initially built the battery packs for my fpv drones where weight is a big issue so i chose these high capacity cells. for a longboard a little cheaper and heavier cells like the ncr18650pf (2700mah) or similar should be totally fine though.

The only issue I have with this video is where he said that "high voltage means less current draw". It doesnt, it produces a higher current draw because of ohms law. When you raise the voltage, all you're doing is creating a difference between the numerator and the denominator of the v/r=i calculation - hence more current draw.

but wouldn't the motor on one wheel, push the wheel unevenly so it turns the truck therefore disturbs the balance of the board? I mean wouldn't be easier to maintain balance by putting equivalent motors at least on two wheels on same truck?

Won't the long board pull of to one direction if it only has one motor on one side? If so, I guess you could compensate with destroying the entire system already set up, you could just get a splinter before connecting to the motor itself... Or am I mistaking? On both accounts...

i noticed you said you would wire the batteries in series because it would draw less mah but if i were to explain why i wired it in series was to get a higher voltage because the motor have more or less 190 kv wich means 190 rpm per volt, correct me if i am wrong.

hey... may I suggest you to use longer trucks??... this cos I think you could use 2 motors instead of 1... thus longer life for the motor /s.. and others parts

Cool project, there are 2 things that are a bit unclear to me maybe you can clarify this.
1.) What board configuration did you exactly pick? I saw you mentioned the board is called "loaded dervish" but on their website there are quite a few options to pick from. Could you also specify the parts you got such as the wheels and other things? Just to have a complete list of all your components.
2.) The battery pack you built. Do you have some sort of video of that built too, or some info on the parts? I know you said its overkill, how long (time/distance) can u actually drive with it?

+internetz.me glad you liked it. the dervish i have is the predecessor of the dervish sama. i have 180mm paris trucks, which is kind of a default setting for most longboards. the drive pulley i got fits the orangatang kegel wheels. get the best bearings you can afford. the battery is build from panasonic ncr18650bd li-ion cells in 6p 4s configuration (each pack, i use two of them in series to get 8s). i am planning on doing a tutorial on how to solder li-ion packs but it will take a few weeks, i am right now prepping for my big final exam. hope that helps ;)
