I like how you talk, how you express yourself, sounding neither pompous nor boring, staying tactful from start to finish (mentioning different points of view regarding the same subject), but also making subtle right-on-target remarks without insulting or… belittling anyone. RUclips can be… too much at times, with guys exaggerating in order to… make noise around their channel. I much better prefer your “I share the content I enjoy producing without being too full of myself” approach, if that makes any sense (my English is a never-ending work in progress).

As a woman who has lived in Thailand and lost my ex to a Thai lady not just one but two I might add, I must admit I found this vlog to be both a bit amusing and sometimes rather sad. Nevertheless I roared at the guy who thought there was no place for woman in Thailand. These people obviously know only one part of this beautiful country. Despite one divorce and many return visits I still love it there and there are many beautiful places yet to visit.
Thank you for your interesting historical vlogs over the last 2 years they have been both interesting and kept me positive during these challenging times🙂

One of the stereotypes you missed was the “Muay Thai Champion”. To be fair, you mainly see these in the south or on the islands but they can also be spotted in Bangkok.
The island type you are running along the beach in the obligatory Muay Thai shorts shadow boxing as they go.
But the city ones wear the Muay Thai t - shirts from markets that always seem to depict a fighter throwing a knee

While all stereotypes are generalisations, it's easy to recognise aspects of all these. The worst, for me, is the old Thai hand who really gets Thailand and knows all the tricks and knows what Thai people are like etc. I think the beauty of Thailand (and most other places for that matter) is that anything you think you know will always be confounded if you keep your eyes and mind open. I met some of the nicest people I ever met in my life amongst the farang-in-Thailand community (and some of the worst and the most desperate too). Thanks for another great video.

The fact is these foreign women just don,t care about what the Asians think. Its all about me, me and me! Sadly their attitudes have caught on with some Thai women. Sort of like a bad virus that spreads . Seen more than a few dressed that could easily pass as street hookers or are topless on the beaches. Do as you please just don,t cry , moan and bitch afterwards when you get in trouble. Then they wonder why they get harassed by Asian men.
I will never forget watching three young Swede girls not even eighteen sitting topless on the beach in Hua Hin within minutes three drunk Thai men were following them around. Just one of numerous reasons I just avoid tourist slums in general. Just embarrassing to be around many foreigners. You just never know what stunt they are going to pull next.

@Trevor Smith is proper marriage to your proper partner, best friend, lover, soul mate etc. the same as paying a prostitute for sex in your eyes? ie. Is marriage just a way to get sex for you? Or, perhaps the prostitutes offer you love and a close relationship? You mention 'paying up front' so I assume you're paying bar girls or similar. Is it the same? However jaded and old I am now, I still remember how it felt early on with my wife. In love. All was wonderful. Prostitutes in Thailand have never given me that, unless I was totally taken in and fooling myself. Something I, and many others, have experienced. But I found out in the end that I was an idiot.

The first time I heard about any of that was many, many years ago long before RUclips and long before I ever visited Thailand, when a European friend told me about their co-worker in Europe who went to Thailand and married a street prostitute and got her with him to Europe and how she doesn't speak a word of the language and what kind of marriage they have. No judgement intended. It is rather sad that some people need this sort of scene.

Great video. I’m new to your channel and very much regret not travelling to Thailand when I had the chance (20yrs ago).
In the Uk, most of us men (especially married) get broken down over a few decades. Work and family life take turns in giving you a good kicking. Finances for most are always stretched and the minute your wife sees you having the slightest bit of fun. It’s put a stop to. Men have few friends here and I can only imagine the freedoms felt on arriving in Thailand for that new start.
I’m sure if western women appreciated their men more and rewarded them (we are easily pleased), the stereotypes would be less obvious. Maybe?
I like your non judgemental and informative style 👍

My wife (Thai) and I are both mid-70s. She had been in the US for 40 years... University and then career. We met and married then later decided to spend the rest of our years in the Kingdom. Her family in Thailand are all retired professionals like us. We decided to move back to Thailand and build a retirement house near them in rural Prachinburi.
It's quiet and peaceful and I rarely see another Westerner. We are certainly not millionaires, I rarely drink and don't "cat around". Most of our village knows me as do the monks at our local Wat. I'm never subject to "dual pricing" save for my frequent trips to Khao Yai.
After 10+ years I still find this the most comfortable retirement.

Being closed minded by not willing to consider different ideas or opinions causing these labels from a person.

Great video Pat. I might drink at the wrong place but I haven't met an SAS veteran in 16 years. I'd love to listen to some war stories. I live over the bridge in Bangkok so I break that stereotype too. I'm just an ordinary bloke running a small business (just turned 50) with 2 Thai kids and a wife of over 10 years. We go to Pattaya for holidays, and I sometimes sneak down to the bars for a look. But at the end of the day, we're just a normal family doing normal shit. Its just much easier here than in my home country. You need a light globe - call the motocy guy - 5 minutes. Electrician or a plumber - same day for 10 bucks. Food or grocery delivery (and now ganja), a message away. So yeah, the nightlife may have brought me here, but now we're just livin' life as it should be. Then when I came back to my western life, where I'd already come to the conclusion that things were stacked not in my favour as a man, and now there was no way I was going back what I might be able to get as a partner in N America. That has only increased as I've got older, knowing that there is so much going on over there v a life with a women my age, who is probably going to me overweight and high on the N American feminist/ man dis-liker scale... I don't know quite what is the answer, apart from regular trips to Thailand.

I went to Thailand myself after going to Vietnam first with friends born there and decided I didn't want to be there for a entire month as originally planned not knowing what the country was like and I already took a month off for vacation looked into other countries nearby with good currency exchange rate so I still got the most for my money I decided on Thailand. What I saw personally was a HUGE amount of very old guys literally chasing, in most cases, for young Thai's looking like children or at least to be the Farang's grandchildren's age no matter where I went, very, very sad. I'm glad it seems to have changed. It is a beautiful country ruined almost by outside visitors going there for the wrong reasons.

Great video - presented, as always, in your cool, professional manner.
I always imagined I would never become a stereotype. I was smarter than that. I was self-aware. Regrettably, and with some considerable measure of disappointment, I now realise that during my time both in Thailand and Vietnam I probably ticked every stereotypical box, plus a few more besides. I was certainly guilty of falling into the 'I must be handsome - all these lovely girls (and guys, in my case) find me so attractive!' trap. I'm sure I acted like a perfect fool - swaggering about like I was some impossibly good-looking, cocksure 20-something (I'm 59) in my inappropriate tight t-shirt and comically short shorts (clothes I'd never wear at home here in the UK). Typically, I'd swim a few lengths in the hotel's roof top pool and emerge thinking I was an irresistable physical specimen - of course my partners couldn't keep their hands off me!
Idiot. Clown. Were they laughing at me? How did they really see me? Time and distance have not provided any answers.
I have some good, good memories of the times, people and places. Some really fine moments, but always, behind it all, I know I probably looked and acted the fool more often than not, and I was almost certainly kidding myself about my motivations and those of my partners just about 100% of the time. I was a stereotype. Gullible, probably insensitive, sexually promiscuous, and nowhere near the best version of myself. If I didn't know it then (although I might have suspected it), I certainly do now.

I know the feeling well. I'm now 67 and almost, finally, might have grown out of it, and I can see the reality. I feel that I was a complete prat, especially when I first went there in 1979. I really thought I was 'The Man'. I now realise it was my distorted perspective that allowed me to get involved with the fantasy. I was 'educated' by older mongers who made me believe the most ridiculous things, as indeed they did. Ie. Thai girls worship us and we are like Kings to them. Very soon though, it started to go wrong and I got shat on several times. I was used and abused for money. Its only taken about 40 years for me to realise that's what happens when you deal with sex workers. What a prat. Now, I'm not sure if I wouldnt have been better of if I'd never been there. Or at least, never messed with 'the ladies of Soi 4'.

I really enjoyed that video Pat. I live in Australia, have a comfortable lifestyle but I would love to retire in Thailand. The main attractions for me are the lifestyle, affordability, the people and the food. Yes of course, young, very attractive women are appealing but I also feel a bit cringy when I see guys my age or older, with the physique and charm of Homer Simpson kidding themselves that they are in any way attractive and with a young girl in tow who is doing what she has to do to get by. I get it, but I don't, if that makes sense. If I ever make it over there to retire, it would be nice to contribute to the local community in some small way too. Anyhow, thanks for your channel, it provides a more detailed insight into every day life in Bangkok and your views and knowledge are appreciated.

Case in point, I was at Robinson this morning when I saw a foreigner coming head on with his girlfriend and then he saw me and gets all googly eyed staring at me as he passed but doesn't say a word. It's either that or a massive scowl comes across their face like ''I'm the only farang in the village.''

That happens when they wanna be the only farang in the area and he's mentally profiling you about your wealth, if your GF is a bargirl and whether you're a teacher. Many farangs do it to eachother in passing. Some think it's like a pissing contest
