- You were talking and I thought I heard you say
"Please, leave me alone
Nothing in this world can make me stay
I'd rather go back, I'd rather go back home"
But if you believed in me
Like I believe in you
We could have a love so true
We would go on endlessly
And I know anyday, anyday
I will see you smile
Anyway, anyway
Only for a little while
Well, someday baby, I know you're gonna need me
When this whole world has got you down
I'll be right here so woman, call me
And I'll never ever let you down
But if you believed in me
Like I believe in you
We could have a love so true
We would go on endlessly
And I know anyday, anyday
I will see you smile
Anyway, anyway, just for a little while
Only for a little while
And I know anyday, anyday
I will see you smile, I will see you smile
Anyway, anyway
Only for a little while
Break the glass and twist the knife into yourself
You've got to be a fool to understand
To bring your woman back home after she's left you for another
You've got to be a, you've got to be a man, you've got to be a man
But if you believed in me
Like I believe in you
We could have a love so true
We would go on endlessly
And I know anyday, anyday
I will see you smile
Anyway, anyway, just for a little while
Only for a little while
Anyday, anyday
I will see you, I will see you smile
Anyway, anyway
Anyday, anyday
I will see you smile

40+ years later and you can still cut the angst with a knife. Powerful & timeless.
My favorite song off this album i will never tire of hearing it played.
Here's to a perfect rock 'n roll tune. Whitlock and Clapton's voices together are magic in angst.
So Whitlock is the other voice. Great tune. A belated thanks, had overlooked it.
I am partial to Bobby’s vocal prowess!! I would love to have it isolated and enhanced!!!
One of the greatest songs ever performed .
I could listen to the intro of this song ten times a day and not get tired of it. Eric and Duane have soul and it shows in the way the play. Not real fancy, just the right notes at the right time.
Agreed Chuck, they have such righteous feel in their playing, feel is the soul of music and cannot be emulated or simulated. We respond to the feel.
Bobby Whitlock,an amazing genius!!!!!Another great song off of one of the greatest albums ever!
Derek and the Dominoes "Layla" really was the "Bellbottom Blues" -- the white man's blues in the very best sense. Everything was left on the field here.
I love the guitar tone in this. Electric wires singing and zinging. Duane's solo is real witchy-swampy.
Witchy-swampy. Love that description.
+Ken Gerrish Yeah, that's how I described it when I first listened very closely to his style in this song.
He never really played this mood again. He taylored it to the song.
I pictured deep in the bayoo at night, creepy with fog over the water and in between the trees.
+Wayne Burnett ...kind of a Sonny Landreth sound.
That’s it...swampy. I tried to replicate the sound in a recent video. Hard to do. Got the TAB pretty much down though.
What a great freakin tune...
Slowhand & Skydawg playin' without boundaries, & Bobby Whitlock sharing vocals.....
Eric Clapton went from Cream to Blind Faith to Derek and the Dominos....incredible!!!
With Delaney and Bonnie in between.
Can’t forget The Yardbirds....
What a wonderous and beautiful thing!
Don't forget John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers
So great, so incredibly great, thank you for posting.
Im in the mood tonight!! Bring it!!!
Awesome guitar player one of a kind
Imagine anyone putting out music this good today. It's not gonna happen.
This song is right up Duane's wheelhouse - great slide and solo licks throughout, and a great solo starting at 3:00. I appreciate how the band let Duane just take off on this one! Love it.
Spent days making a TAB of the solo...just uploaded if you’re interested in learning it.
I think it was Carl D Radle. Yes? Some of the best music ever created. Nice work, Bobby.
Anyday and Little Wing my favorite songs off this classic album
Anyday, Tell The Truth & Keep On Growing for me.
Me too Steve.
For me, it is Keep On Growing, Anyday, I Looked Away, Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad, the secondary songs on Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs which really make the album so strong andfull of depth.. Layla and Bell Bottom Blurs are terrific in their own right as the normally mentioned highlights. A shout out to a perfect album closer (after the dozens of intregate layered guitar tracks on Layla and the sweet coda), is the Bobby Whitlock song filled with pathos, Thorn Tree In The Garden.
Good Sound. Great song...
@5:44 *Anyway, anyway*
1st "[Incomprehensible]": *"Just you wait an see baby baby yeah"*
*Anyday, anyday*
*I'm gonna see you smile*
2nd "[Incomprehensible]": *"I'm going to see my baby smile Yeah yeah"*
Great guitar player
So nice to hear again after so many years. Thank you
Incredible, hysterical, ultra=energetic. Allman is... I wanna cry, man, he lived so short...
Superlatives get kicked around a lot.
No matter - the slide playing by Duane Allman, particularly the fills on the choruses, are simply unearthly. No one is that good, not humanly possible, but yet Duane is. Duane Allman was a monster among monsters.
According to B Whitlock, on Anyday all rythm and slide parts were by Clapton. So skydog here is just the solo at the middle.
skydog had a special touch on slide...those notes are bled not played!
It's Clapton on slide
@@jokkergar Duane plays some slide as well....
@@JeremyJames_studio on this album yes on this song sounds like duane is playing regular style all the way through while Clapton leads with the bottleneck.
@@jokkergar Right
This is one hell of a fuckin song bluesy great singing and guitar playing for the ages
~There were only three Dominos~Jim Gordon~Carl Radle and Me~Bobby Whitlock~Eric was Derek and Duane was an Allman Brother~
If you are in fact the real Bobby Whitlock, I owe you sincere thanks. You had the best voice on this album. I don't mean to insult you by questioning your identity, but I am a born skeptic. And an innate fan of Derek and The Dominos.
~Well Marty, all that I can tell you is to go to my site and check it out~I in fact do interact to a degree with my site friends~Thank you for your kind comment~BW~
You the man
Bobby Whitlock .I love the album buT this particular song just makes wanna keep playing guitar ,singin and writting music NO MATTER wath. When i heard this or the album sleeping in friends couche`s its was like you were there in studio making fire .Mr.Whirlock your voice and your playing is ment to be forever.
The music speaks for itself no doubt about it..
The D & D album, is in my top three albums ever. Amazing Band. Whitlock never got his due. He was Clapton's equal.
Well I can imagine how you will feel when hear their *other* album :)
Great 'old' stuff !
(thanks for uploading)
Eric Clapton, guitar and vocals
Duane Allman, guitar
Bobby Whitlock, keyboards and vocals
Carl Radle, bass
Jim Gordon, drums
uno dei 10 album più' belli della storia del rock blues
un album che può vantare della collaborazione di due vere e proprie icone della chitarra come Clapton e Allman, direi più unico che raro, un album leggendario senza dubbio... questa è una grandissima canzone
Potrei ascoltarlo all'infinito.
Skydog!
Great song! Jim Gordon is going off on this song but still doesn't get in the way of everyone else. Studio recording but feels like a live version.
🤙🤙
I just love this song he died too young
I hate to say this....I heard D&Ds version of little wing before I had heard Jimis...both great..both dif...both amazing!!
Yeah!!!
Also listen to I Looked Away
hi bobby.as a fellow player of your generation I love your work.I was standing next to Randy Wood at his guitar shop in pooler,ga one day when you called him maybe about the J200. That was cool.
I don't see nothing wrong with using Duane Allman as a reference to Derek and the Dominos, he was on the record.
Anyday anyday hoot
Anyway anyway hoot
Was that you, Bobby? From now on EVERYBODY
is going to get a hoot out of this song!
One of the best songs ever, particularly the intro, but the whole thing is incredible. Closest I’ve heard compare is The Black Crowes, “My Morning Song”. The Crowes were definitely inspired by D&D, Allman Brothers, The Faces and others. Check it out:

Just Mmmmm…..💋
My son just got into the Dominos and and we both came to the same conclusion. Had Eric not recruited Duane to be the 5th Domino, the whole Layla thing would have never been one of the best Love Songs album ever made. I hate when people say Layla was Clapton's best guitar work. It was DUANE damn it!!!!
early clapton, best clapton
