I used to see Jim Gordon (drums) nearly every day at California Medical Facility in Vacaville. Except for his height, you wouldn't know it was him. I never spoke with him, but I made sure that the nurses and doctors were aware of who he used to be and the impact he had on so many other drummers.
Beau, Your dad is a great musician ! He was a Very Big part of Derek and the Dominos ! I seen him & Coco at B B Kinks in NY not long ago. Great story teller.
Beau; Clapton has never been bad, but imo, his zenith was with the Dominos - he had the best bassist, the best drummer and his best writing partner and side man - your Dad.
Well Carl has been dead almost 40 yrs. and Jim Gordon has been in jail for many years for murdering his own mother... So they aren't rocking on much any more....
That drummer Jim Gordon, is the GOD of drums - Listen to how seamlessly he shifts from a half-time feel on the verse and then for the chorus he doubles up to normal - ALL WITHOUT MISSING ONE SINGLE BEAT INCLUDING ALL THE ROLLS/FILL INS - unbelievable time and feel. I've never heard ANY rock drummer with the time and pocket of Jim Gordon - none of them...
I can't even imagine what it would have been like to walk out after that show was over. It would be like coming down from Mt. Everest - what could possibly ever beat it...
I've never heard this particular version before....guess someone had the master from the whole show and finally decided to cut it loose. As has been pointed out here already, Jim Gordon's playing was peerless back then...his verse/chorus transitions are totally seamless, swinging like a hoss all the way...everyone in the band was at the top of their game and yes, Eric's playing is arguably the best I've heard for the era...great phrasing, never running out of ideas and all played straight into your basic Twin Reverb supplied by the Ryman...no effects, just guitar-cable-amp all you gearheads! This is truly a gem of a recording, and thank you x10 to visionman18 for posting and/or to whoever supplied you with it.
I saw the Dominos in 70 and Clapton was the weakest of the bunch.... I think and pretty sure he was dope sick. he was still great but the other 3 were ROARING! When Gordon left and Clapton started using jamie Oldaker on his solo Lp's there was no comparrison and Oldaker was a fine drummer but not even close to Gordon
Jim, Bobby, and Carl were all road and studio test professionals. All carried their own weight and added to what was already there. Jim's story, unfortunately, does not have the happy ending. Sad. In the day though, he was tops.
Jim Gordon was THE drummer of the 1970s . He played with everyone . Clapton , Harrison , Jack Bruce , Harry Nilson , Steve Winwood . If you can listen to All Things Must Past by George Harrison , check out the last two sides of the triple album . Gordon jamming with all the band members . Fantastic drumming .
Clay, I say the same thing ! I seen Derek & the Dominos 2 times, At the Fillmore East & The Capitol Theater. There was so many great bands in the late 60's & early 70's !
I bet the Producer's wish they had left the cameras rolling for this song and Got to Get Better in a Little While. Insane that this is the only video of this Band.
Bet you didn't think I knew how to rock 'n' roll. Oh, I got the boogie-woogie right down in my very soul. There ain't no need for me to be a wallflower, 'Cause now I'm living on blues power. I knew all the time but now I'm gonna let you know: I'm gonna keep on rocking, no matter if it's fast or slow. Ain't gonna stop until the twenty-fifth hour, 'Cause now I'm living on blues power. Talking to you, now. The boogie's gonna pull me through. Keep on, keep on, keep on keeping on. Keep on keeping on, keep on keeping on.
I live in Cleveland lived on Blues Power for Years Browns Blues Rock on ….Went to 0- 16 parade….. we can definitely laugh at our selves…..there is some here among us that think that life is just a joke…..
Duane only played two live shows with them. Tampa December 1 followed up the next night in Syracuse NY. A friend of mine went to that Syracuse show and said they played till after midnight! I couldn’t go. I was only ten at the time.
I guarantee you that somewhere this is on video. Someone has it and it will probably never see the light of day. It’s a shame too. Johnny Cash was the real deal. Him, Clapton, and Perkins sharing the stage. That probably was a fun night night for all
@@mister.costello oh like bladdered as in some drunk guy drank too much…. And pissed all over clapton, yeah clapton does seem like some kind of a freak
Jim Gordon. Man, he was awesome. Tragic all the way around.
It is a tragedy.
He had severe mental problems.
No one helped him its really sad but what a superb drummer. This track is amazing
God Bless Bobby Whitlock, kept us regailed at home with mucho musical life stories on RUclips over the Pandemic
Here we are, 50 years later, and STILL some of the best jams ever. Pretty sure today's kids won't be saying the same 50 years from now. 😁✌️

sadly he will be remembered differently in social media for theguy who killed his mom with a hammer
It's such a sad story.
I've never heard this, and I've heard about all my father's (Bobby Whitlock) stuff. Thanks for uploading this
Beau, Your dad is a great musician ! He was a Very Big part of Derek and the Dominos ! I seen him & Coco at B B Kinks in NY not long ago. Great story teller.
Bobby and the rest of the band made life worth living at a difficult time.
Beau; Clapton has never been bad, but imo, his zenith was with the Dominos - he had the best bassist, the best drummer and his best writing partner and side man - your Dad.
God bless Bobby Whitlock!
I hear you Beau...this one caught me totally by surprise! I love your dad's stories on his and Koko's YT channel btw - great stuff!
What a kick ass groove with that legendary rhythm section...rock on Carl and Jimbo!!!
Well Carl has been dead almost 40 yrs. and Jim Gordon has been in jail for many years for murdering his own mother... So they aren't rocking on much any more....

Ringo
Yeh really...
Same thing. Nothing flashy, just what the song required and NEVER out of time
yup i agree . the best ever in his style
So sad about his life

The rhythm section on this live, amazing…
The drummer is kicking ass.
Jim Gordon live was unbeatable

More like sucks ass…… I can’t even say that as a joke, rhythm section incredible
Five airheads don't like this. They're now listening to Beiber tunes.
...and not understanding them, I might add.
I'm so lucky to have experienced such great musicians. That era was very special.
Clay, I say the same thing ! I seen Derek & the Dominos 2 times, At the Fillmore East & The Capitol Theater. There was so many great bands in the late 60's & early 70's !
Bobby whitlock added a lot of soul to the band with his back up vocals
just excellent. I can never get enough of this. some of my favorite Eric songs and tone..
I bet the Producer's wish they had left the cameras rolling for this song and Got to Get Better in a Little While. Insane that this is the only video of this Band.
It don't get no better than Jim 'the groove' Gordon on the traps and Eric 'The blooze' Clapton on the geetar...
Carl Radle was a monster! Damn!
Best rock band ever.Bobby was the key.
Eric has agreed to play another song. Well I think Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle, & Jim Gordon had to agree to that also.
Bet you didn't think I knew how to rock 'n' roll.
Oh, I got the boogie-woogie right down in my very soul.

Wait till this season. Least we got E.C to when the browns are tanking
Everything about this band worked.
Blues Power, great tune, bought album in 70 ish, kick ass still!!
I have been looking for this version of this track FOREVER. Many thanks.
Amazingly good recording considering that it was done live. The drums sound better than most studio recordings from that period of time. WOW!
jim gordon was in a class by himself 1968-1975
this, was a TON of talent in one band omg.Wish they stayed together for longer
Love it believe me the domminos new how to Rock
I’ve never heard this one from the Johnny Cash show. Really nice. Thanks
This is real fantastic,brilliant.
Even without any kinds of distortion, overdrive or whatever, Eric could make such brilliant solos
Yeah just running into a Twin Reverb, nothing else.
Damn, this is smokin' hot!
That's just fantastic, keeps getting better like aged bourbon
On the Johnny Cash show!!!!!
I wish Skydog played more live shows with these guys....
he died very soon after the studio album was cut
+Chris Byers Look at what he accomplished in his short life, tragic....
Duane only played two live shows with them. Tampa December 1 followed up the next night in Syracuse NY. A friend of mine went to that Syracuse show and said they played till after midnight! I couldn’t go. I was only ten at the time.
Derek & The Dominos on The Johny Cash Show!!!🎉 Doesn't get more genuinely cooler!🎉

Aowsome
My name is Eduard, from Amsterdam. Eric is probably drunk.but hè pLays Incredible.
Brilliant.
Uh......hell yeah! ❤️☮️
Keep on, keep on, keep on.....
The intro reminds me a bit of "Couldn't Stand The Weather"....
i think it is almost the same chords!!
me toó!
i think SRV took it from "blues power"... without even realise!
He realized exactly where he got it from, and that’s just fine!
yup he did
The same as the chords from Rivera Paradise look like "Make it through tomorrow " , from "there is one in every crowd" 1975
The only way to improve this would be to have Johnny take a verse.
y es!!!
ssurfcity "hello, I'm Johnny Cash. I bet ya didn't think I knew how to rock n roll."
ERIC THE BLUES.........
LA STORIA 🎸
Eddie Van Halens favourite guitar player. Would always go see him play if he was able to.
Allan Holdsworth
Why wasn't this video taped???
I guarantee you that somewhere this is on video. Someone has it and it will probably never see the light of day. It’s a shame too. Johnny Cash was the real deal. Him, Clapton, and Perkins sharing the stage. That probably was a fun night night for all
Wow ¡¡¡.
Nice ¡¡¡.
Clapton would no doubt have been bladdered here.
Bladdered? Like he really gotta pee?
@@debomb721 bladdered as in very drunk. Haha, unless you're being sarcastic.
@@mister.costello oh like bladdered as in some drunk guy drank too much…. And pissed all over clapton, yeah clapton does seem like some kind of a freak
Cash & the Dominos..how can ya go wrong..& who are the 3 douche bags who disliked this!!!!

u would think after 50 years music would get even better.... yet its basically trash with a few exceptions left over from the 90s alternative
