  • The Lumix S9 is a compact full frame camera that can shoot amazing cinematic video. I use the Lumix S9 and Sigma's compact full frame lenses - the Sigma 90mm F2.8 DG DN and 17mm F4 DG DN - capturing the everyday moments I see in this densely populated city.
    Shot in 6K Open Gate, 10bit 420 internally, V-Log, and color graded with FilmConvert Nitrate.

      How do you like it compared to the X-s20?

    • @movichris
      @movichris  2 месяца назад

      @@garends225 The LUMIX S9 has the advantage in shooting at high ISO, especially the dual gain feature that really helps to keep the image clean at ISO 4000. The XS20 is a better option if you need small lenses, as there are not much compact lenses for the LUMIX S9. Sigma has a few compact primes for L Mount, which helps to keep the S9 a compact package for everyday shoots.

    Beautiful video. I am seriously considering ordering the S9 as my first ever Panasonic camera. Love my FX3 but the size and IBIS on the S9 will make it great for everyday carry.

    • @movichris
      @movichris  3 месяца назад +4

      The size and IBIS are two great features of the Lumix S9. I use the S5II for paid jobs and interview shoots, and the S9 becomes a b-cam, a really nice camera for weekend casual shoots and some b-roll filming. Paired with compact primes from Sigma, the S9 is a really good option for everyday shoots

    great work, can the S9+17mm f4 give us iphone/action cam like stabilization for vlog?

    Great video, I was looking at the 17mm + 90mm for compact options too. Currently have the Sigma 45mm and it's such a good lens for the size.
    Quick question - if you had to pick only 1 between the S5 II vs S9, which would you go for?
    I currently own the S5 II but I find myself leaving it at home a lot due to the size/weight + expensive/professional look of it when traveling. So I'm considering swapping mostly for the fact I might take it with me maybe 10-20% more often..
    I shoot hybrid 50/50 photo video, tough decision though between the two - I don't do much professional work with my camera lately, so I'd only really be able to keep one.

    • @movichris
      @movichris  Месяц назад

      If I could only pick one, I would go for the S9, in terms of casual and semi-pro usage. The S9 has a great advantage for its compact size, and having almost 80 percent of the S5II features. I have been using the S9 for some of my paid jobs, for gimbal work, interview shoots and handheld b-roll stuff. The S9 has great IBIS performance and autofocus just like the S5II. I found myself to prefer to carry the S9 for everyday shoots, which is a very important factor to judge a good camera, as the best camera is always the one you choose to carry all day.
      For the cons, I found the recording limit on the S9 would cause issues for long interview shoots, especially if you are working as a one-man band. The S9 also have overheating warnings if you shoot in hot weather/outdoors/under the sun. I also wished there's a viewfinder, as I always found myself trying to look into the viewfinder when shooting outdoors.
      Right now, I have my S5II as my studio camera, or to use for long interview shoots. I also tend to use the S5II with my bigger lenses such as the Sigma 24-70mm and Lumix 70-300mm.

      @@movichris Appreciate your detailed comment!
      "as the best camera is always the one you choose to carry all day"
      Is really the key. I have a Ricoh GR IIIX for this purpose normally, I love how discreet it is but it's truly awful at video unfortunately (aliasing, terrible quality, useless AF) and I really enjoy shooting 50/50 hybrid.
      Whenever I have the S5 II with me + a 28-70 or even a 1.8 prime, it just feels like it looks intimidating and professional to people. While I'd imagine the S9 is a bit more disarming since it looks less serious. Maybe it's just in my head though, but I definitely consider it a lot when traveling to other countries and wanting to be as discreet as possible. (same reason for preferring IBIS over a gimbal/rig too of course)
      By the way - that 17mm wide shot at 1min08 is amazing with the perspective/leading lines. Both these lenses really work so well together for this kind of sequence.

    Wonderfully shot, loved it! I know street photography gets all of the attention, but you've expertly shown how street videography can be just as satisfying, if not more so with the addition of ambient sound capture. I'm more into the compact nature of MFT systems but this S9 Full frame has really got my attention, thanks for sharing.

    Great video... Have you ever tried the lumix 18mm f1.8? Im trying to decide between that and this sigma 17mm f4

    • @movichris
      @movichris  3 месяца назад +1

      The LUMIX 18mm 1.8 seems to be a good option if you need a wide aperture for ultra wide shots, maybe shooting in low light for keeping low ISO. For the shots I do, I always shoot at f4-f8 for ultra wide angle lens, so I chose the Sigma 17mm f4. The compact size is also a bonus

    Wow, thank you so much for this video. Once I got the money, I think I will get the S9. Your grading looks really natural yet very beautiful. I think taller aspect ratio is perfect for these kind of videos: personal journal, street videography, daily activities, traveling, etc. Nice dynamic range, as expected from fullframe camera.

      You are welcome! The S9 is great for everyday shoots, I found it to be very compact for broll filming, or even vlogs. The Sigma prime lenses, the contemporary I series, are great match with the LUMIX S9. Using the S9 is very similar to the S5II, but the S5II has advantage in ergonomics, long duration shoots, and dual SD cards

      @@movichris how about the screen on the broad daylight? Could you see it well enough to manually focusing a lens? Right now I use a GH5 and the EVF is very helpful in that situation. This is the only thing that bugs me from the S9. I probably will choose the S5ii if the screen of the S9 cannot perform well enough in the broad daylight..
