You missed two of the biggest selling points of this pistol: Walther advertises it is effortless to rack and has very little recoil. The target market is probably ladies and people with weaker hands/arms, I would imagine. My mother and mother in law both want a CC pistol but everything I have in CC size (Shield 9, PPS M2, LC9) they can't even rack and the recoil scares them.
@@SlimCowboy it didn’t trigger me. Your opinion related to the subject is very limited in scope based on your video and responses to others on these comments.
Thought we as a community moved passed the "not a 9mm" phase to come to respect the middle ground these subcompact .380s have to offer between the snappiness of pocket .380s and micro 9mms, so this take seems really outdated (with the "no optics cut" now the new snobby expectation for everything) Guess having a less powerful round in a slightly larger and heavier gun to create something that's easier to shoot for those that are recoil sensitive, have weaker hands, or offer faster follow-up shots, in general, is just an appeal that some will just never respect
The P365 and Reflex can't be carried chambered and decocked. This is the whole reason for this pistol. Double/single action. Once someone makes one this size in 9mm we will have a close to perfect carry gun and it will sell like no other.
Smaller size, higher capacity, larger caliber, better optics compatibility. Yes these all exist and they are all statistically a better choice than the pd380. It’s not that the PD 380 is a bad choice, There’s just much better.
@@bower31 I hadn’t heard that, and the (admittedly few) people I know who have them speak quite highly of them. I wonder if it’s a situation similar to the rumors surrounding the Springfield Prodigy. Some people get ones that work great, others get ones that won’t work at all.
Yes, it's an upgraded PK380. I've never handled a PK380 but I have read that they are somewhat subpar for Walther. This looks like they blended in some CCP aesthetics into the PK380. If you're a Walther fanboy, this could be your alternative to an M&P EZ380. I don't like "safe triggers" so I would look at it if I were in that market category.
It’s an updated pk380, that no one asked for….in this day and age - no optics cut, no ten round capacity minimum - fun is dead on release. No one will even bother making holster for this shit show. A ppsm3, optic cut, would be a hit. A home run.
Agreed. I’ve always said that Walther needs to release an optics ready, stack-and-a-half version of the 9mm PPS M2 (maybe call it the PDPS?) with the newer PDP styling that holds at least 10-13 rounds. Would be a huge hit IMO.
Making a P365 class gun now is just going into a very saturated market, they really wouldn't be bringing anything outstanding besides an option with their name on it. I mean there's the Hellcat, GX4, STR9MC, Mako, METE MC9, Shield Plus, and the P365
Why does everybody compare this pistol to super compact carry pistols? It's obviously not a compact carry pistol; it's more of an all-around pistol that can be concealed, but more for range use and home protection (if you didn't want something bigger). I would more likely compare it to a S&W EZ 380, or even a Glock 25. I'm actually looking forward to getting one once they become available, as I once owned a Walther PK-380. The PD380 is a much improved version that has kept all the good features of the PK380 (longer barrel than most 380's, locked breech action, paddle magazine release, and excellent grip size), and improved the parts that sucked (non captured guide rod, safety that kept falling to the ON position during firing, 8 round magazines, and the MIM slide).
All lcp max mags blow up in my hand, completely disassemble while shooting. Trash gun. This never fails and is extremely reliable. I shoot it as well as my vp which fits me like it was molded for me. . I own hundreds of firearms and I'm in love with the pk and the pd380. Good vid
They cant put a optics cut on it to close to the internals i already asked walther reps. This isnt for the sig macro fans this is a upgrade pk380 wich walther sells tons of
@SlimCowboy lol I liked it as a pocket gun... not as accurate as my ppks.... I can outshoot most full size handguns with that elegant little stainless bastard
I been thinking about buying a 380. I have thought the Bursa Thunder Plus (15 +1) was kind of neat. What do you guys think? This would be range plinking maybe conceal carry for me.
Walther PPS M2 + MagGuts 8 to 9 round conversion magazine spring and follower + one round in the chamber = 10 rd micro 9. I have put 1000's of rounds through the modified 9 round magazine, where the only problems I encountered were during a brief break-in period of the first 50 rounds or so. After that it was 100%.
Could they have at least given it a proper decocker like it’s older cousin in the ppk. Gotta love the Dollar Store Daniel Craig ads though, not for this gun though.
Why don't we whine about a conceal carry pistol that won't take every mall-ninja attachment, thus negating any concealed carry advantage? And a handgun that won't accept 100 rds in the chamber? I grow weary of all you tacti-cool girly boys who never designed or built anything in your soft little lives being keyboard experts on firearms. Hell, this guy doesn't have one in his hands to review, let alone shot the thing...
I think companies need to try to compete with the Ruger LCP Max. I like the concept of the Max but I don't really want one because the titanium free floating firing pins being pretty fragile, using a conventional firing pin block would have completely solved that. I think this was a big miss on Walther's part to present an alternative to the LCP Max. But importing small pistols is complicated legally. So it would need to be US made. Over 30 years ago Grendel made the P10 and P12 .380 mico double stacks that held at least 10 rounds. Surely Walther could make something happen.
This is nothing but the Old caliber war nonsense. Your opinion of the 380 is irrelevant to the quality of the gun. More and more we are seeing larger size 380. products. Obviously Walter is joining the Marketing of introducing a easy to handle and manage product. Like it or not the 380. is MILD Shooting. Which in turn means more accurate shot placement for many. And I have news for you, many folks still love the single stack. 10 fast rounds is nothing to sneeze at. Not sure why you bought a 380. pistol when you are so against the cartridge.
This pistol would be perfect, if it had 12 round extended mags. Red dot cut out would be nice, but being 380 might not work with the added weight of a red dot.
To use the decocker you need to put the safety on pull the trigger and lower the hammer, thats dangerous will have ND'S with newer gun owners.its a big miss
Ruger Security 380 is smaller with 15+1 and a safety that disengages in the same direction as ALL OTHER HANDGUNS!!! This Walther with a backwards safety is just... DUH!!!!
First off it’s not a review, someone asked me for my thoughts on the gun. Currently, I don’t think anyone has a copy to test anyway. Secondly, I don’t waste my time listening to someone who calls people “bud”.
It’s a miss because it’s too big and too heavy. The .380’s advantage is that you can make the gun really small and light for optimal comfort and concealment. If you make it as big as a subcompact 9mm it no longer makes sense. Walther should have given their engineers a Glock 42 and said don’t make it bigger than this..
They should have made a shield EZ or Security 380 competitor. The light rack 380 market is a really good one that appeals to an under served demographic, so it somewhat makes sense. The PD380 is just a lazy PK380 update though
Easy rack slide, mild recoil, hammer fired DA/SA and a safty, 10 rounds, compact size. Perfect for me!

Try the CCP M2! Very easy to rack…. Comes in 9 &9 short
Maybe their goal was shoot-ability? Huh? Yeah? Maybe their goal wasn't a snappy little micro gun.
Stop obsessing with 9 mm and capacity. Many older folk can’t rack stiff slides and in many countries 9 mm is not allowed for civilians.
And I bet if they could have 9mm they would

Slightly larger380 pistols often shoot very smoothly and capacity is WAY overrated. It seems well made and will be a success.
Tell Timothy Graham that capacity is overrated
