Kedai Kopi Mayloon (May Loon Cafe) is situated at the junction of Kimberly Street and Penang Road, right between Chowrasta Market and the famous Penang Road Chendul.
What a hidden gem, very under rated wan than mee stall and also economy rice in a small kopitiam tucked away amidst the busy bustling Penang Road. Surrounded by famous eateries such as Nasi Kandar, Ais Tingkap, Chendol, laksa and char koay teow, people seem to have forgotten this humble little coffeeshop and its offerings.
The noodles are cooked by an old Cantonese man, a bit camera shy, but his skills at making perfectly springy, chewy, luscious, slurpy noodles shine through from the very first bite of his egg noodles. It absorbs all that wonderful dark soya sauce and the sweetness of wontons, char siu and chicken slices... all for RM5.50 a plate.
The shop is surprisingly not busy, many people came to pack rice and dishes on the way to work. Those who ate in usually ordered the noodles.
Go try it, I am so happy to have found this little gem, right in front of our noses!

I enjoy yr well-made videos. Nothing v fancy, but very enjoyable viewing, in the pace & mood that you render them. Captures not only the food, but the mood of the place, the mood of non-touristy Penang. And u hv a luvly family, particularly yr pretty cute daughter u usually eat with. I luv the way u hv brought her up in caring for her younger bro, holding her bro’s hand to ensure he is safe, v mature responsible girl.

The wantan seller is not only quiet he is grumpy. Beverages in Chinese kopitiams are among the worst because they overcharge and stint on ingredients. No one can make a tasty beverage, hot or cold like the mamak or Malay restaurants. They do not stint on the milk, sugar or powder.

Sometimes have to try out these kind of shops in penang. The unassuming, almost empty/no crowd, barely noticeable. Just because we hardly see people go there doesn't mean it's any less good than the places with crowd. I can say this about a nasi kandar joint just a stone's throw from nasi kandar deens maju in gurdwara road. I tried the nasi kandar there and it was delicious. Personally I can say it's even better than deens maju. People hardly noticed the place because deens maju is just around the corner.

My wife and I ate at this Wan than Mee September’23 and found it ‘barely acceptable’. Sorry to disagree but we hold wan than Mee sellers to a ‘decent standard’….most hv been disappointments. We lived in SG for 10 years in the 80s and return every year to eat in Penang, KL and SG. Tons of disappointments but here and there, we find real hidden gems. We will eat here in Penang again in September 2024, our scheduled visit, and try this place again…and will post our reaction. Trouble is, wan than Mee was made to a consistently high standard back in the 80s all the way timid-90s. Dunno what happened…maybe the oldies died and the newer generation is cutting corners. Wd tried wsn thanks in Ipoh, Kampar, Bidor…. Almost all disappointments. Could not match some of the really good wan than outlets in SG….hawker food too! Same story with chicken rice.

I think you may find the WTM flavours here in the north very different from Singapore and Johor because it is actually a different dish. The sauce has no ketchup or sambal as per Singapore WTM, and is usually flavoured with lard and soya sauce. I have heard some of my friends from Johor also having the same complaint but it is really like eating laksa... each region has a different recipe and style.
