Remarkable Paper Pro: Unboxing & First Impressions

- It took a bit longer than expected to get my hands on the Remarkable Paper Pro, but it’s now finally here, so let’s unbox it, turn it on for the first time and see what the fuzz about this new color E-Ink note-taking tablet is all about while I’m working on my in-depth review.
Luckily, everything was still in the package, even though it arrived almost half open. I got the Remarkable Paper Pro, the Marker Plus, and the black leather folio, all of which set me back an absurd 850 euros.

That comparison between the rMP Pro and the different Kindle generations was extremely helpful. Thanks for the first impressions - looking forward to your full review!
I've been using the Remarkable Pro for a week now. And I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to return it since I have two complaints. One is that the flickering that it tends to do is very annoying. Two is that the black color isn't black, it's like a blueish black and I really don't like it.😢, I would recommend the remarkable 2, it is still a very good device.
This is my first Remarkable device. I already have a Color Boox device. For me the Paper Pro is real keeper. Sure it is of limited use, but it works quite well. The flicker updates is just for color, and my written notes are mostly black and white. The blueish black doesn't bother me. Sure I would prefer perfect black, but for written ink, you don't really notice.
Seems like you are a bot who comment everywhere about returning the device
@@lIlIIllIIllIlIIIIl I think you've smoked something pretty big.
@@ninoskids1232 Speak for your self
I feel like this is the product that will push the industry forward, for the time being I’ll keep my remarkable2 and wait to see what comes out next, hopefully without that annoying flickering
I hear 'super easy, barely an inconvenience' and I respond, 'oh really?!'
Oh wow wow wow.. wow
Please compare this model with one from kaleido3, such as the BOOX Note Air 3 C. I am interested in knowing if the price difference is worth it and if the color reproduction is significantly better or not.
Kit masters betts has this comparison and the color on the pro is much better
I have both, and the Paper Pro is a lot better. The green is a bit weak, but still green (sort of like partially dried grass). I personally consider it worth it, but then I spend a lot on tools, so I can only speak for myself.
Was waiting for your review since this device was announced. I think these companies should send y’all advance review units
Finally, I have been waiting for your video about it!
The cost for that leather case is INSANE my friend. But the Remarkable Paper Pro looks really nice.
yes it's a SCAM, the two folio compared with the price of the panel (30%!!)! not very serious from remarkable, also the nibs ! why a tiny pieces of plastic are so overpriced ?? their markers are not serious too, the bundles offers are just ....inaccepted (folio added for backup with no discounts)....waiting for others firms to adopt gallery 3 panel with a reasonnable price for what we get and more customized and strong devices....the response is to boycot the overpriced devices with no added value! this how we must treat silly products even if are the first to show up...
@@jb1593 If it's out of your budget, that's ok. Not everything has to be catered to everybody, and considering how expensive this would be even if they made 0 cents on it, I think it's ok to aim for a profit margin that allowed further development.
The front-light is actually pretty good. During daylight, it can punch up the background just enough improve contrast. In full dark it can get plenty bright to use. Aside from full dark usage, it never looks like you are looking at a light source. Boox has much stronger lights, but I usually try to do what the Paper Pro does, make it look better without making it obvious that a light is on. (I hope this makes sense)
Yep, definitely makes sense - most of the time I also set the frontlight brightness to a level that's just barely noticeable, but not more than that.
What I don't like about the RPP in this context is that it doesn't give me the option to do more. Some rooms are just a bit brighter than others and even in a well lit room, the display is a bit darker than others, so a brighter frontlight would have been helpful here as well imho.
But either way, having a frontlight in the first place on the RPP is definitely a huge advantage, especially the way Remarkable implemented it without creating a larger gap between the top of glass and the E-Ink screen.
Thanks
Also didn't take you for a Ryan George fan, tho on second thoughts, you'd fit right into the Ryanverse 😅
I love your coverage!
I liked the pitch meeting reference
Excellent video. I so wish I had a need for this (I don’t take notes…). On a side note, am I the only one that has a crush on Chalid? 🙂
I was hyped for this. But I think I'll wait for Supernote's A4X2 instead.
Great and insightful video. Thank you. Can you please do a side by side comparison with the Kindle Scribe, regarding the screen, the size/weight and the writing experience?
Thanks for your impressions.
Just the fact that it uses an active stylus is reason enough for me not to buy the Remarkable Pro. That has nothing to do with writing on an eInk display anymore. If I want an active stylus, I'll go for an iPad or another tablet.
I am really fine with the WACOM-technology on other eInk tablets.
Why do we care what technology the stylus is? All I care is that it works…
the biggest reason for my upgrade, is the size the nomad is way to small for notes and even the 10 inch screens just compromise on taking notes for me
Are You talking about how dark it is without the backlight on.
Without specifying - That’s like comparing a the speed of a car to another without telling us if the engine is even turned on
This looks like goes in the right direction but for me as someone who would primary use it for comicbooks this tables it just to big and to expensive. The colors are really nice but they should add some black particles to the mix to enhance the black rendering. I would also prefer the size-range 8-9" over this gigantic thing this would hopefully also reduce the price of the device a bit.
Aw, the noticabke darkness of gallery 3 is a definite bummer. It's better than Kaleido 3 at least. Hopefully Carta itself sees an improvement, the contrast of its cells would benefit all 3 types.
It makes the trade-off between refresh flicker (gallery 3) and performance a little balanced again.
what about Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Plus in regards of color?
please cover the pdf render, reading and annotation in full review.
Surprised to see USI 2.0 support.
Maybe I’m mistaken, but I seem to remember that during the announcement Remarkable claimed this used their own self developed solution.
Far from ipad writing in my experience!! I have used both the 12,9 and 11 pro for a long time! The writing experience can not compare! It is not only the screen with paperlike. Have you used the ipad over time with a paperlike? If so, I must say a disagree with your experience.
Sorry if that wasn't clear - I was specifically referring to that tapping sound when touching the pen down on the screen. This is much more iPad-y like before. And I actually find that a bit distracting - both on an iPad and also on the Remarkable Paper Pro.
Writing itself is definitely different (=better) than on an iPad, but imho besides the better pen latency, I prefer the Remarkable 2 actually. At least for now. Let's see how it is after using it longer. :)
@@ChalidRaqamiyes, the tapping sounds was quite iPad-like
Having said that I also felt/heard this when I changed my lamy pen nib for the harder option on my go 10.3.
@@ChalidRaqami Btw, I like your reviews a lot :) Yes the tapping can be a bit distracting to some people, I dont notice it. If sitting in a meeting taking notes, the one next to me typing in a pc... thats distracting.
@@davidr1431 Yeah, it's definitely a pen-nib thing. I'll test this a bit more for the review. Without the need for sketching an alternative USI 2.0 stylus with a more WACOM-like nib could be a solution for that.
@@torleifaskedal9205 Thanks, that's actually a good point about typing on a keyboard. I might use that in my review :D
i wish it has colors :((
Yayy!!
Looks dark like kaleido 3
The screen is dark but the colors aren’t as dark and there are more colors.
The screen is halfway between the RM2 and the NA3C in its gray shade.
That would be a bummer. I have difficulty using Kaleido 3 without any light indoors, and there's a lot more places where kindle could be read without lighting.
If Gallery 3 is halfway between the two, I don't know when lighting would be necessary.
@@yensteel I found the RMPP perfectly readable in normal lighting with level 3-5 frontlight making a very pleasant read in low light or darkness.
Wow wow wow
wow
Boox is still the king for me...
💯
Useless product from a useless company.
Ridiculously overpriced.
Outdated technology.
Flickering screen refresh.
Inadequate storage with no sd card expansion.
No way of searching through notes.
Useless as an ebook reader.
No customer support from Remarkable

possible you meant "than on Kaleido 3" ?
Yes, you're right, I meant Kaleido 3 of course - thanks for pointing that out!
