Class 185s run all of the stoppers at my local station and I ride them all the time, nice review. also just a note most of the 185 fleet are not being retired there expected to stay (for now)
The 185s are being coupled together now though particularly on the Manchester Piccadilly to Cleethorpes route as there are enough units free with the additions of the new trains
I've been on the class 185 before I went from Manchester to Preston and I can say it's a slightly smoother ride than the voyagers and I love the voyagers
As a semi-regular user of the 185s, they are OK for middle distance routes but I'm not sure I would be quite as complimentary about them as you are ... I wouldn't want to be on one for a long journey! One of the things that lets them down is the doors being in the ⅓ - ⅔ position rather than end vestibules ... the trains can make quite long stops at York, Leeds and Manchester, when you get all the station noise and cold air circulating. This wasn't a problem on the 158s before them, or the various Novas coming after them, but those of us living on the branches that aren't being upgraded will still have it. Of course, having the extra space of 6 carriages rather than 3 will relieve the chronic overcrowding that has plagued them up until now, which will do a lot to make the journeys more pleasant.
A significantly overweight DMU that cannot use Sprinter line speeds due to the excessive axle weight, also designed so that the exhaust routing means each car loses two seats due to increased intrusion on the passenger space. On all of the operated routes also offers no significant journey time reduction due to being unable to use Sprinter speed differentials
Nice one the 185s seem like decnt trains and hopefully they at TPE keep some on after the new train upgrade which also looks cool in terms of the live passenger info I believe Thameslink have it and also SWR (on there 707 trains) and also aventra trains on tfl rail London overground
I had a similar problem at Leeds where the Wakefield line was blocked both ways so no LNER services were going to Leeds, apart from a broken down 225 set in platform 9. Instead I had to get a Voyager to York and double back to London, adding over an hour to the journey as well as the 30 min extra wait.
@@SuperalbsTravels Unfortunately I didn't, the part of the route affected was an off peak ticket between Doncaster and Shipley, it cost in total around £9 with my 16-25 Railcard and I tried to get some repay back but the women at the ticket office said there's a £10 penalty charge on off peak tickets being refunded, couldn't seem to get compensation from LNER either but oh well.
Tpe are bad at delay repay. Once I had a delay with them. The delay was on the tpe train as it was delayed half an hour but the first half of the journey was with northern, so tpe sent the delay repay to northern who of course rejected it as it was tpes fault! Had to email a few times until I got them to accept it. Disgusting behaviour really. This was about 5 years ago now so I had hoped things by now had improved but maybe not. Incidently may delay was a leeds as well! I was going up to newcastle and arrived just over half an hour late: think it took 4 months or so to get my money as I remember.
I do like the Class 185 Desiro DMUs. I have been on them before and it sounds so amazing and are fast. And I hate loud passengers. I use c2c sometimes and there is a quiet zone on c2c trains. But still you get some passengers who chat on the phone and it suppose to be a quiet zone. But it's not working and c2c should fine those who are in the quiet zone or to scrap the quiet zone on their trains. Did Northern use the Class 185s on hire or permanent. If they did then they would of used them on Manchester Piccadilly/Manchester Victoria-Leeds, Hull, York, Doncaster, Sheffield, Rotherham Central, Lincoln. Northwest England including Manchester Piccadilly-Windermere, Morecambe, Barrow-in-Furness, Blackpool South and Blackpool North. Leeds-Harrogate, York, Scarborough, Lincoln, Hull, Grimsby & Cleethorpes. And in Northeast England including Hartlepool, Redcar, Darlington, Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesborough, Sunderland, Newcastle and Whitby.

I'm a student at Leeds and often come home on the Class 185's towards Newcastle. Always a comfortable ride and a good cost! Great video

From what I've heard a fleet of 15 185s will be coming over to the East Midlands, so I'm looking forward to that

I did York to scar beach on a 185 then came back on a 397+68

Yeah they took about 6 months I think. GWR are pretty rubbish for it too.
