I live less than an hour away from Ft. Ross, in Sebastopol. The Fort along with that whole stretch of coastline with its State and Regional Parks is pure magic for me. My heart and soul are forever tied to that area. I was photographing my little boy in that giant eucalyptus not long ago too 😉
    Enjoying your cool channel 🙏🙏

Very Cool!!! I had the pleasure of sleeping over night at Fort Ross with my daughters 4th grade class. California History classes. It was sooooooo cold at night, but we were there in April and the Whales were putting on a show. We had Mass by candlelight in he chapel... Great memories!

@@jbenziggy Hi! Yes, we slept in the buildings. I slept in the guard tower that looks over the ocean. We had a little general store set up, dressed in character. That was 25 years ago, and my sons class stayed at Mission Adobe in Petaluma. Great memories, thanks for posting this!

Thank you Sarah for ringing that bell. (Reminds me of a song title...."You can ring my bell, ring my bell") The overtones were beautiful. That might be A=440 !! If you are visiting up and down the CA coast, go north and hike over to the lighthouse at Cabrillo Pt. south of Ft. Bragg. I photographed the sunset there once and captured a nice image of the lighthouse beam with all the reds and oranges! Thanks again for a nice video......Russell D.

Jeff did a great job helping you. ; ) Okay Jeff did a great job with the tour. I love hearing ocean waves. See you next Sunday.

I remember visiting Fort Ross as a 5 year old. There was a display then of what damage the 1906 earthquake caused with photographs of log buildings toppled over. Those photos stuck in my young head. They reminded me of my toy Lincoln Logs. 😊 We used to go to Bodega Bay, too. The tidal pools were always fascinating. Thanks for rekindling fond California memories.

Great episode! That’s a great place for a Fort. Beautiful place. The Russian writing on the bell said Please Don’t Ring The Bell 😁. “ The starfish know what they are doing Sarah “ Ha Ha Ha! We used to take field trips to Fort Ross, I remember the fire in 1970, when I was Junior High school, and 3 years later when the historic designation was regained I was in High School, like the Adobe Fort in Petaluma, the grounds of the Fort was just a small part of property and the Russians own a major portion of the land, and bordered John Sutters property.

I also must add, you do live in a really beautiful state. Living at the other end of the country, I have only ever seen the Atlantic Ocean, and I must admit it does not come close to the beauty of the Pacific. Since you did not know about Fort Ross, then you probably also do not know that during the struggle for US independence, two Russian squadrons came to the shores of America to help the Americans and stood in the way of the ships of the British and French. The British and French did not dare to fight the Russians and were forced to retreat.

The Russian Empire also had 3 forts in 3 Hawaii islands and they had a fort in Sagallo (today Djibouti, East-Africa) where they have a little fight with the French...

That was terrific guys. Now I know where the expression “ The Russia’s are coming, The Russians are coming”
The look on Sarah’s face when she first rang that church bell was priceless, from Down Under.

Well, I guess I was asleep in my History class the day this was taught. I had no idea (or memory) that Russians were ever in America. This lets me know I'm never too old to learn something new....Thanks Jeff and Sarah......so interesting, and the ocean is just beautiful!

As a native Californian, there is nothing like the coast! As a kid my family used to go camping many times north of Ft. Bragg. I really looked forward to those summer vacations. I now live in San Mateo and drive out to Half Moon Bay every chance I get. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for the Fort Ross episode. I have been fortunate enough to have been there a couple of times and I love the place, well, all of Sonoma county really. I hope you get to visit there sometime when the buildings are open. I really liked the chapel, rustic though it may be.
