I like the way you incorporate old photos into the narration of the story’s you research, always well done. I like to look at historical sights too but my wife isn’t as understanding as Sarah is, you two make a great pair of adventure hunters 👍
SO MUCH HISTORY THAT WE NEVER WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOW ABOUT IF YOU AND SARAH DIDN'T SHOW IT TO US. CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR YOUR EFFORT ( AND FUN I'M SURE ) TO DO THESE VIDEOS.
Janet, we certainly like to travel when we can but COVID is certainly spoiling a lot of our plans to get out and see more! But we honestly appreciate and thank you for your support, for watching and believing in us! It is work but it is also fun!
There was a similar "battle" between Petaluma and Santa Rosa in Sonoma County. instead of shooting each other they decided to discuss their differences over drinks at the Washoe House.
All the plaques were so informative. One of the first photos you showed has the hotel. I was wondering what it was. It’s nice it’s still there. Nice historic town.
Interesting connection between this area and Liversedge. Just goes to show that a hero can come from anywhere. It's ashame that the jail became a trash dump. I never knew that the Civil War extended this far West. Very funny Superman sign in the phone booth. Being a dog lover, I appreciated the very historic dog and people fountain from 1976. Interesting epitaphs on some of the headstones in the cemetery. From what people wrote on them you get a real sense that they placed a lot of importance on eternal life. My favorite..."I know that my Reedeemer liveth".💕
Thanks for taking me to Volcano. I just learned the story of the civil war in Volcano given at the California State Park Museum in the McClellan Industrial Park. A hearse is in that museum that was used to smuggle the cannon into Volcano and then fired just for display and that ended the battle. I also had to look up Starr King's life because I attended the Starr King school in Sacramento and never knew who he was.
Welcome aboard! Thanks for finding us! Yes, we come out with a new video every week (it's worked out that Sunday mornings are a good time) so we trust you will subscribe and be a part of our journeys! Thanks!
As a graduate student in history living in the gold country, this is fantastic. You might argue that the 1863 killing of an El Dorado County deputy was a civil war casualty. Loving the videos y'all, wish I'd known you were coming to Coloma. If you make you're way back I would be happy to help.
Love that Sarah knows what dont touch means and glad you didnt let her ring the bell :) So much history in a small place Thankyou for sharing it with us x
That's a wonderful thing to know, that your work is appreciated! Thanks, Dave, for watching and for commenting. I trust you'll let us know what we're doing wrong if you feel the need. Have a great week!
Being put in the same company as my far away friend Rhetty is a great compliment! Thanks so much! We appreciate you faithfully watching and commenting on our videos!
Wow , I can't believe the old jail still standing...back when I lived in Pine Grove, it was locked up not open like that. The eagle band was a shop there. My dad was involved in the Theatre group for many years. Still is or he might have retired from now. I remember being in my first play, "Things go bump in the night" was amazing. Alot of memories. Thankyou for this history, it is always nice to be brushed up.
Thank you so much for watching and leaving the nice recollection of your memories there. It is definitely a charming, quiet little town. Long may it stay that way!
We went to a wedding in Volcano, stayed in the St. George hotel, top floor, 2nd from the right as you face the front. The railing is low and, after drinking in the bar downstairs, I worried one of us would tip over the banister!
Hey Jeff! Great video, you showed the headstone of my great great great grandparents Elizabeth and James Miller, he was from Glasgow, Scotland, she was from Ontario, Canada! That was so cool! I can’t wait to visit Volcano! 😊
Awesome History! Love these old towns!! it's crazy some of those graves where before the Jesse James robbery in Northfield, MN close to me. Keep up the good work!!
Great video, been there twice and now I want to go again. Volcano is an interesting little gold rush town. Nearby is the Black Chasm Cavern which is an wonderful cave to visit.
Hi Jeff Thank you for doing one on volcano! I live there in the '70s for about 6 months there ain't nothing there at least in the '70s appreciate it as always. Your number one fan Lou Martell
Again, thanks for the video. I always love your productions. I've been there once on a motorcycle 'poker run' several years ago and told myself that I should return. (Now that commercials have infiltrated your videos, I might have to consider signing up for the premium RUclips.)
Thank you, Donald! I don't find it morbid, I think it's sobering though. We all have short lives and we need to live life each day! Please subscribe if you haven't!
Dude that was so cool I had no clue about this volcano town I've spent a lot of time in Northern California near and above like Oroville dredging for gold in my younger days but the history of California is unbelievable thank you so much for bringing this video I appreciate it so much and yes I will subscribe thank you
In San Franciscos Alcatraz prison early days before the prison as we know about, there was a Union Army camp where soldiers were serving time for various reasons. Cannons, cannon balls and a lot of explosive material was kept. A lot of very dangerous things happened there that were kept out of view for a long time after 1865.
Rebellious Sarah rides the ragged edge of disaster, touching that artifact! We moved from Bay Area to Pine Grove a year ago. We didn't know they wanted to build a reservoir in Volcano!
I was probably "dragged" through volcano as a kid as we used to go to Daffodil Hill nearby. I don't remember any of this information you shared. May need to go to this town also. Thanks for re-introducing me to so many places I didn't appreciate as kid!
Yeah, when I was a kid my dad dragged us around on weekend day trips. I groaned and moaned but you know what I did as a dad? The very same thing! And I think part of my quest to do these videos was born out of those "boring" trips I was forced on as a kid. I didn't appreciate it so much then now but I sure do today! Go and check out this town again with adult eyes. Oh, and try the burgers that we didn't get to. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe to our channel!
I grew up in Jackson, CA. And my best friends parents are the care takers for Daffodil Hill in Volcano, thanks for bringing attention to my little county.
What a nice little town. I'm thinking it has Columbia beat by a mile. Looks like no tourist trap there. Thanks for a really great episode, you and Sarah do them very well.
Again, I like catching up with your adventures. There is one cemetery in New Hope/Yardley/Washington's Crossing area in Pennsylvania that you would enjoy. If you ever get the chance. I used to go there a lot, over 30 years ago.
I'm always amazed at how you get hold of the historic fotos of long gone people and of the sites as they looked like in those old days. You must have access to some huge secret archive! Great work, your videos!
Jeff, My wife and I just finished a visit to Volcano today. I used your video as a guide and it was very handy. Would love to see you do a video on the history around Murphy’s CA.
Another perfect show, you just show enough of the highlights without spending too much time on one setting which keeps this interesting. You'll find that every gold rush town has something unique about it. Funny how you mention about presidents all spending a night in every town! so true. keep up the good work.
Thank you, Jay! There is a hotel in Coulterville which everybody says Theodore Roosevelt stayed out. Only problem is they said he stayed there on the way to Yosemite and Roosevelt went by way of the train to Raymond, far from Coulterville. It's not true but was even repeated in The Modesto Bee and I called them on it. LOL. We'll keep researching and videotaping our adventures! Thanks!
💛...the guy was probably asking if you were there to investigate paranormal activity, as several hotels in the area are noted for that...also, my step-son was in a midsummer night's dream, presented by the amador county players, back in the early 1990's, on that amphitheater...sro crowd, probably more in the audience than in the town's population...great episode...
What a fun time you two must have traveling putting these videos together. I might be copying you with my wife soon. Our outdoor channel is fun, too, but we both love history and your channel. God bless@
Can’t wait for you 2 to get to Mokelumne Hill. So much great history there. Don’t forget the Chili Gulch marker on Hwy 49 just south of the town if you do go there.

Great videos I’ve learned so much about our beautiful state through your videos!
I am so happy to hear that you enjoy your videos, Maria!
It’s great how they remodeled these old buildings. Love it. When you show the original old buildings, it makes it even better.
Jeff I truly enjoy the history of California.
What a neat town and cemeteries. I had no idea that there was ever any Civil War action here in Calif. Another fascinating trip, Jeff and Sarah!
Well we are glad you tagged along with us in Volcano, Steve! It's nice having your company! Thanks so much! Jeff
I love your history of the Gold trail. It is my favorite time from California’s past.
All the plaques were so informative. One of the first photos you showed has the hotel. I was wondering what it was. It’s nice it’s still there. Nice historic town.
Love CA history. Too old to get out anymore. Thank you both for letting me to explore vicariously.
Glad you are enjoying our videos, Virginia! Sorry you can’t get out anymore. You have blessed us with just enjoying what we can show!

Glad to hear it! Thanks so much!
Sunday mornings are better enjoying some coffee and the latest episode of history hunters.

I honestly never knew this awesome, little town existed until now! And I am all about California history.
I live here and never knew that this video was made.
I love going up to Volcano in Amador County. Such a peaceful town.
The town seemed to take a lot of pride in its historic buildings. I wonder why the jail isn't kept up as well. I enjoyed the tour!
As a resident of volcano
I will let you in on a little secret…We still use it! Can’t make it to nice.

Volcano looked like a blast! Thanks for the Civil War information Jeff and Sarah.
Some of these little towns are really near to explore!
