Oh no, I got SOOO excited to see that MAF sensor and throttle body get a thorough cleaning! Can you please make us a video of each, Peter, so we know the proper technique? Thank you so much for all you do!
I'll be cleaning my 2012 Sequoia throttle body for the first time this week using your guide. I have 220K miles on it and I'm pretty sure it's never been cleaned, this should be interesting!
That is wild -- the closest thing I've heard about this happening is in Dubai: there are even more counterfeit Toyota parts there, and obviously there is a lot of sand. A Toyota counterfeit investigator there said that air filters are commonly counterfeited items, and they are so low quality that a few days in the desert with a low quality/no-standards air filter can damage an engine. The failure points are on the outside rubber seal/edge of the filter: the edges heat up and shrink, causing air to enter around the filter, instead of only through the filter, so dust gets inside easily.
Peter, it’s a 5.7 Tundra ...... don’t leave me hangin ...... take it apart, fix it, and put it back together so I can learn!! You know I’m watching ...... thanks, my CA friend!!
My 2000 wasn't that dirty but close. Was idling at maybe 50 rpm, yes 50 rpm, still ran good but would stall once in awhile. Cleaned the TB and MAF, now the idle is where it is supposed to be.
Dirty, but not terrible. What most mechanics fail to understand is that the manufacturer ALREADY tested the engine under those and worst conditions, and PROGRAM the computer to react accordingly (open throttle a bit more to idle etc etc)
I didn't realize how important a clean TB was, especially on a Toyota engine, until I ran into trouble a very long way from home, even though the car had only about 65K mile on it at the time. The owner's manual never mentions it.
Ah, cool! I've just been wondering about this since I heard the throttle body mentioned in connection with this issue in another video! I had the experience of low idle and stalling after having the battery disconnected. I think the computer has adjusted again now, but it took longer than usual so I will check these things
The reusable filters always are shipped full of oil and will coat a MAF sensor pretty quickly. The best thing to do is gently wash out your reusable filter and hose it off every 6 mos after.
@@somemedic I went to a Subaru specialty shop. They had an opened up engine that was damaged by a K&N filter. They showed all the surface damage caused by the poor filtration. You can't drive in dusty areas with them without long-term damage. When the guy saw that I had one, he pulled it out and without charge gave me an OEM filter... Oh, and like Peter, he won me over and I kept going to his shop. A really great reference point is the Project Farm Channel. He included a K&N filter in his air filter competition. By the way, I got at least 10%, maybe 15%, better gas mileage with the K&N. I bet they would do really well in the Pacific Northwest, and anywhere else where it's rainy, unlike Southern California.
If there's that much dirt in there think about all the dirt getting into the combustion chamber. Dirty air is getting past the air filter. Maybe a small leak in the hose?
Just as a friendly reminder: Disconnect the battery BEFORE working on any of the sensors or the throttle body. It's good insurance to ensure sensors and TB come back on-line properly after cleaning these components.
Just cleaned my 97 2.4L 2rzfe throttle body 430k it was 10x dirtier 😂. My egr port was completely clogged cleaned everything like new replaced gaskets etc now my idle is high.
Are there star wheel adjusters ? Can they be installed reversed -- right side on left side ? would it loosen the adjustment instead of tighten ? Long shot guess :-)
@@davecaselli1957 it does have stars and ive adjusted them 4 times about every 5-6k. And it comes back. Also my parking brake doesnt engage on the first 4 clicks and i have 110k on these original brakes lol
Unfortunately , many people drive it till it drops . In addition to the MAF , do you find the IAC get a build up of carbon over time ? Depending on the vehicle , a relearn is needed .
@@oreally8605 if you can take the battery out then you can clean the throttle body, it is that easy. I am sure you can find plenty of RUclips videos on the process.
Looks like that truck was driven without an element in the air filter box for a long time or the filter was so plugged, it warped and bypassed air around the filter. That is way too dirty to be anything else... even the hoses are dirty. Very sad! Owner should be ashamed and that engine is probably toast now.
like the channel but the trend to talk and static shots of components is not good. Some doing and tips would be useful especially around this common maintenance item.
Better get out the jack-hammer........your gonna need it on that foul throttle body! That was definately the worst, crappiest looking throttle body that I have ever seen!
"Let's enjoy this dirty throttle body together". Love this man

Do a cleaning video of that DIRTY thing!!

Lol I watch this channel all the time too and we have the same username

Great video.
I wish I had you as a mechanic 👌🏾
Love the tundra videos. Thanks for your time
This is a testament to Toyota toughness. Totally neglected for a long time but still running great with no codes.
Yes and no. My 1.5 NZ-FE didn't want to run well with a not-so-clean TB.
Let's enjoy it together. Yes, indeed, let's... Good work, from Australia.
Peter, Two green Toyotas in a row, I can't remember the last time I saw one.

Hmm, maybe the intake air isn't passing through the air filter for some reason.

That’s amazing it’s still runs.
Just cleaned my 07 FJ Cruisers Throttle body. 🙂
Funny but no help.
Promising debut as a auto mechanic comedian! Nice chops.

Super helpful!!! How many miles would you recommend cleaning the throttle body on the 5th gen 4runner?

hope to see the cleaning of the throttle body video
That truck has had a hard life.
Love your accent, what is your country of your forfather, may I ask .I am a new subscriber I like your honesty.
Hes obviously from Calumet City, Illinois, home of Ray's Music Exchange
My friend has a similar accent and he's from the Czech Republic.

Interesting. My 1997 Land Cruiser fixes itself... wish Toyota still made cars with that feature 😆
For some reason, the throttle body reminds me of a gopher hole. Are we sure it was not pushed out of engine from some critter? 😂

Peter the rear drum brakes on my 2013 corolla keep go out of adjustment and gives me a soft pedal feel. Any ideas?

Why not hose off the engine compartment before you open all the induction passages?
Hi Peter.
Could you clean my toyota matrix 2009 throttle body?
I live in Long Beach CA.
Guessing either a missing air filter or a K&N.

I'm in the Mid west- how much should you charge for a throttle body cleaning?
Why would you no do that yourself? It takes basic tools and 20 minutes. There’s no secret about it, it’s that easy.
Very easy to do. Just take off the hose and spray it down

I had one worse than that. It was packed with thick, black build up.
Nevermind the throttle body. You should've refused to work on it due to the illegal gas tank fix or made him sign a waiver of liability.

Why why why why. Because Peter says so. I wish you move to Idaho.
The owner is probably watching this and cringing with embarrassment.
The dirt is inside the engine and must have caused wear. There has to be a leak.
I know my throttle body needs to be cleaned when my accelerator feels just a touch sticky going from idle to slow acceleration.
Show us the cleaning please
