Just found this video by accident. I used Ivory when I was 10 years old in 1961 and in more recent years have had good luck in the Altamaha with pink Mexican laundry soap named Zote. I will mix a line with soap , cut bait, crawfish, and catalpa worms when you can get them. One half of a catalpa worm is all you need on a hook.
My wifes grandfather was using Ivory soap over fifty years ago in the back waters of the Sabine river. Close to the Devils Pocket. The soap was not as brittle back then as it is now.
Awesome video brothers! Some nice cats y’all got there me and my brother are going to run some trot lines soon and try that ivory soap! Tight lines fellas! 👍
When I was a kid in the 1960's we would use ivory once in awhile on trotlines on the Wabash River. We would warm it up in an oven, then cut in chunks while it was warm.
I tried it in a small fla.lake that had only speckled ,black, and butter cat,no channels 25 hook trot line ,not a bite.still had all 25 PC. On hooks in morning
Enjoyed video! Btw those were all channels. You really can't go by color so much. Surest way to tell a Channel from a blue cat is the whiskers under the mouth. Channel cat will always have dark colored chin whiskers & blue cats will have white chin whiskers. White cats will have white chin whiskers but will have much larger head in relation to the body than a blues. Whites also have a shallow forked tail unlike a blue & channels deeply forked tails. I know you've got all 3 of those similar types in the river your fishing. It's easy to get em confused if you don't know exactly what to look for. Thanks for sharing.
for me it was a bet. uncle bet me 20 dollars he would have a fish on the grass before i did. he had a bar of irish soap and i had some rank chicken livers. i thought he was joking. still want that 20 back.
My Dad and I ran trot lines with ivory soap when I was a kid. Good to see it still works. But dudes; y’all kept some babies. If it isn’t filleting size; put them back. Come on now.
takes longer than that for it to get processed into the meat.... besides cats puke after they get hooked, in an attempt to get away so it would be highly unlikely that any lye would get into the fillet...
You learn something new everyday - had literally no idea you could catch catfish with soap! 🧼 Lots of nice cats!
Awesome job boys! Now, where is the cleanin & cookin vid...Well done & look forward to the next episode! God Bless

Can't you use the smaller catfish for bait.??? I heard they good for flatheads
Does it matter which ivory soap scent or soap color?
You mix ivory with lard and heat it ?

What size hooks are y’all using?
the old P&G soap (proctor and Gamble)
about 40 years ago was widely used in Mississippi where i live. they don't make it anymore

Can you tell me where you got the diamond that you were cutting the soap with on your boat? Every time I tried to cut it, it flakes on me real bad
Heat it in the oven
What that invention that u cut the soap with?
Pink zote soap works good as well

Ok, how did the first conversation go involving using ivory soap as bait......hey bubba, do you got any ivory soap

My granddaddy always kept ivory soap in his tackle box for if he ran out of
Bait he would use that

That was not 100 lbs. of fish.
agreed even 35lbs is stretching it
The problem is you didn't show us you were putting out Ivory soap all you showed us was fish on the rig
I am gonna have to try this lol I have caught them on many things so nothing suprises me.
I doubt you had over 40lbs of cats pictured, glad you had fun though!...
always looking for a bait that turtles don't eat i will have to try this
