      They are evidently one of Georgia's best kept secrets! 😁 I'm glad you have discovered them and love them, too! ❤️ Thanks for watching!

      When I was a kid in the 50's I only raw or boiled peanuts and I liked them . One day I was at the beverage store with my dad cause it was in the same building as my brother-in-law's barber. Shop . The owner of the beverage store was getting his first batch of roasted peanuts out of his newly Aguirred used peanut roaster . Of coarse they had me try some and I was very put off of my first taste of roasted peanuts . They tasted burnt to me after only eating them raw . The owner was saddened by my comment thinking he wasted his money on the roaster but when he got the roasting time right they started to sell

      @@charlesroberts3910 , I love that memory! Thank you for sharing! Did you ever put the roasted peanuts in Coca Cola in a glass bottle?

    Two recipes in a row that makes me want to can!! I think you may be my new favorite canning channel... I first heard of boiled peanuts about 15 years ago when I was in Alabama & have made them only a couple of times but they're a favorite for sure!
    Thanks for sharing 🖤

      Aw! That is an amazing compliment! Thank you! 😍 You have to make these! They are so good! I got excited when we moved and we passed the farm where the peanuts I have been buying and canning are grown. I'm excited to visit and buy my peanuts directly from the farm at their stand this year! I am so glad you are here and are finding new inspiration! ❤

    The reason I like to boil my own peanuts is that commercially prepared ones are way too salty. I would use half that amount of salt (1/2 cup/gal). When I open them if they don't quite taste the way I like, I simply add 1/2 teaspoon more salt & let them sit 15-30 minutes, probably while warming them.

      Being able to control what ingredients and how much of each ingredient is definitely one of the beautiful aspects of canning! ☺️

    I have never had them fixed like this. My stepdad always parched them in the oven and then salted them. I am from the south, but I had never heard of boiled peanuts. I think I will try them like this. I would like to flavor them with something. This could be a fun thing to do. Thanks for sharing . 💞 God Bless you. .💜 From Annette Wilhite Mena AR 🌻🌻🌻

      Really?? Maybe it's just a Georgia thing then. 😄 Boiled peanuts are even sold in all the convenience stores here. My friend Lora was going to roast her bag for her dad just as you mentioned above. I hope you get to try them boiled and let me know how they turn out! I would love to hear what you come up with! I always say I'm going to do some Cajun peanuts, but I never do. I almost always stick to the traditional old salted boiled peanuts. 😁 Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Blessings! 🥰

    If you wanted to make these spicy, would you add the spices into the peanuts during the 15 min. boiling time, into the brine, or into the jars before canning?

      Hi! I appreciate you watching! This is a great question. If I was going to make them spicy, I would add the spice into the jars before canning, but you could definitely add the spice into your brine. It is totally up to your preference. Happy canning!

    Hi calling from nz , why do people cook and cann them in their shell ??? Surely when canning them the shell takes up most of the space ?????? Wondering if they can be canned once shelled . ???? I recently bought a kilo of shelled peanuts …….. wondering

    • @mymodernhomestead
      @mymodernhomestead  11 месяцев назад +2

      That is a very valid question! I don't see any reason why you can't can them already shelled. Here, boiled peanuts in the shell are a very popular snack, especially while watching a favorite team sport!. It would be a crime against boiled peanuts not to have the shell still in tact to pop between our teeth! 😁 We don't eat them with a meal as a side dish or in a soup. That is why they are canned that way. This way, they are ready to go without having to wait through that long process of cooking them. Having said that, though, I have been tempted more than once to can them already shelled to use in a soup or to eat as a side dish. Thanks for the great question!

    Other than flavor, is there a reason for the amount of salt? Because I’m supposed to be low sodium, and I try to abide by that. since I have, I’ve noticed that if I try to eat them they’re so salty I can’t stand it. I miss my boiled peanuts

    • @mymodernhomestead

      @auntdayskitchen6315 , the salt is what makes southern boiled peanuts southern boiled peanuts. I'm sure the salt can be reduced, but it will definitely changed the flavor. I wish I could offer more help or information. I have never tried adjusting it. I don't know if it affects the safety of pressure canned peanuts or not. I almost would say it doesn't, but I can't say that for sure. I know you can make them with reduced sodium and freeze them very easily with no problem. No one should have to go without boiled peanuts! 🥰 💜

      @@nvyoder, you are very welcome! I don't think you have to do the long soaks if you are going to cook them for fresh boiled peanuts, but I would definitely wash them several times. I hope you do get to can some. I would love to see them! Thank you for watching, sweet friend! 🥰
