- Here it is, our coming out stories! Even though we briefly talked about our stories in Los Angeles this summer with MTV, 60 seconds isn't enough to capture it all or acknowledge all the emotions that goes along with coming out.

My family asked if I was gag at Thanksgiving dinner and when I said yes everyone was dishing out money from bets they made with other family members, including my mother😂.

I'd finally had enough and left class in college, called my mom(best friend) crying and told her I was Bi. She was so supportive and that blew my mind. What really made me loose it is that my dad took the day off the next day and they both came out to hug me and tell me that they will always love me. They were most happy about me finally being me. My best friend and guy that I had a major crush on called my parents and told them I was gay, after he and I had a falling out, Surprise! Not the preferred way I wanted my parents to find out, but kinda glad it happened, my parents were super chill about it and, in fact, joined PFLAG and took in kids who got kicked out of their homes because they were gay. And that was in the mid 70's when gay wasn't cool?

It’s good! I enjoy a great sense of freedom now.
Initially it was very tough.. I would say my family and whole extended family is a typical very closely knitted Indian family.. my Dad had a very bad emotionally low time. And I have almost 20 cousins and We are all close to eachother.. they all were sad first..But things are getting way better with friends and family.
In times of dealing with all the difficult times of coming out.. I tell myself that I’m just being true to myself and honest with others. So there’s nothing wrong in it.

Beautiful video. It's really hard to come out. I can relate to Nick. I'm also close to my mom. I always tell her everything and she gives me advice and love in return. She's been there for me since day one. The only thing I'm afraid to tell her is coming out. I think she knows bc just like nick, when I was kid I like playing with my sister dolls, watching girls shows etc. I think she's waiting for me to tell her in person or maybe she's afraid to find out. I'm super close to tell her but I'm waiting for the right moment. Great video and thanks for sharing.

I wanna tell my parents so many times but the thought of I may stress both of me and my parents stopped me I came out to my friends and cousin already, i feel so terrified hiding this from them also can't being the real me in front of them,they're the world to me really just wish to wait till able to handle if bad consequences happens .

I look forward to a day when we never have to 'come out' but rather just live our lives and everyone accepts us just as we are. Coming out signifies that we are different and not normal and we need to let people know that. If we are accepted as we are then our lives will speak for us.

I am from Louisiana and im gay, my family is very religious and my family was not accepting of a person being gay. My parents passed away a little over 4 years ago and i had one brother that was younger and died over 11 years ago. I am gay. I could never come out and say that i was gay because of my family would totally reject me. I never told my parents but i think my mom kind of knew. MY sister found out i was gay and was attracted to guys and she started calling me all kinds of names and texted me and said she was so disgusted and i was to never text her or call her ever again and she also said for me to never call her my sister ever again. I am so floored and depressed all the time that i live alone with juvenile diabetes and had seizures in the past now I'VE not only lost my only brother to cancer and my mom to bone cancer and my dad to heart failure but now I'VE lost my sisters in the process. I am constantly depressed nand crying all the time and i hardly have any friends and people who come by and see me at all. I cant drive anymore because of my seizures and vision problems. So i am home alone all the time but i try to keep busy but at times its so hard to do anything. Sometimes i wished that i was the one who died and my brother and parents lived. It would have made things so much easier on my family if they survived and i didn't.
There s no one who can leave u now anymore. U already experienced the worst. From now on keep on going forward and thrive. Also, how wrird is ur sister: she s disgusted because u like guys but.....she also likes guys...

Zac Minnette You're on the journey. It's yours & goes at your own pace. Don't rush it. Don't worry about labeling yourself as out or closeted. The thing no one told me is that coming out never ends. It's something you will have to do repeatedly in various situations. It gets kinda easier.

after watching a ton of these coming out videos i still do not get the point of it all. never told anyone i am gay. if they can figure it out on their own, fine. if they can't, fine. WTF??
i lived and worked in San Francisco. never came out to co-workers. and i certainly didn't care if they were gay. why would I? how was it even germane? doing a code to save a guys life I was much more concerned about someone's competancy than who their main squeeze was going to be that night. consequently I told folks strictly on a need to know basis. so, like, my boyfriend knew I was gay. and the guys at the power house, the eagle, and daddy's obviously knew, being gay bars. But this need to tell my family, friends, et al just was never 'a thing' for me. how is it their business? or important for them to know? If they ever asked me I'm not sure what I would have said. As in, why were they asking? I would have thought it strange. obtrusive. meddling.
I was brought up to be an independent, stand on your own two feet kind of guy and was in the US army during the war. actually i figured out i was gay after 7 months of 'working for the defense dept' ( as I sometimes put it) and at the time the army was not so hot about gay men (Or women) serving, so fine, I can keep a secret. so i did. I played THEIR game. no big deal. And i don't have poor self-esteem from "cognitive dissonance" should folks think about that kind of stuff or know what it is. i figured it all out, the gay thing, on my own. it took a while but I did it. so while playing war games, i was regular, US, army, issue! And in my off time i was the non army me!! maybe there wasn't so much difference between the two. But i knew the army was just a short term gig so I could do whatever they wanted of me to do. perhaps if it had been a whole, big, long career it might have been played differently. But it was only a couple of years, so no big deal. I'm tougher than that, to be broken by their short sighted foolishness in the short time of a few years. it wasnt going to last for ever so I would be (and was/am) fine!!
my parents have passed away and I don't regret NOT telling them anything. I went to college for 8+ years, became a medical professional, bought a great house, and i do my thing. i don't need approbation as I'm internally controlled. I was always there for my parents, always did all I could for them. absolutely no regrets at all.
perhaps i am just a private person! all these coming out vids are fascinating, and some are truely tragic, but i can not really identify with any of them. I took the opposite approach from the get go. but, truth be told, it can work out well for either group, whatever the approach taken. I think it might (would!!) be helpful for folks to record stories of NOT coming out and show how things turned out in their lives so those considering all of this can see two viable options to pick from. And perhaps there are even more options available, so I want to hear what others have done to see what else is possible. perhaps there are a number of ways of doing this beside what we see here.
and for those who come out and it doesn't go as planned I feel a huge amt of sympathy for them. It hurts me and upsets me to hear their hurt. I wish I could hold them in my arms until they stopped hurting!! And I would! to need approbation so badly but not recieve it, and then to also be scorned --- is heart breaking! for those folks i wish all of them-- only the very best, always!!

You say you don't understand why people tell their soling out stories or even why people bother to come out.....look at the long thing you posted....you obviously had the need to tell your story. The only difference is that your story is about not coming out. It's all the same.
