Wing Saber - Transformers Energon / Superlink

- This guy is one of my favorite figures from the Energon / SuperLink toy line and I believe that the Optimus toy was originally designed with this guy in mind since together they make two excellent figures.
When I was young I ADORED Optimus Prime in Energon, I got the original figure with the trailer attachments, Wing Saber and Omega Supreme. Wing Saber was definitely my favorite of the bunch, I wonder if I still have all the figures?

The flying mode is called "wing optimus" and the cannon mode is called "artillery optimus".
I saw this guy once at a grocery store. Yeah, not a toy store or super market. Grocery store. I snagged him up and I still got him. I always wondered why I couldn't find him anywhere, but I never thought Hasbro gave him a limited release. It's a shame, too. Maybe he can't be posed or anything, but he does his purpose of being a new set of combination components very well. And he just looks great.
So, true crappy toys combine to something awesome. That's actually nice. Too bad I'm missing both figures.^^
This guy and Prime are the basis of one of my favourite fan modes i've ever made. Prime is the torso, Wing Sabre combines as the flight mode and the legs fold round the back to give shoulder cannons, Armada overload (yes, crossover) becomes the legs and energon tidal wave becomes the feet and a wing set

Well FansHobby is actually making a 3rd party version of Energon Optimus, they've already made Armada Optimus and are promising Jetfire and Overload for him, so we can assume Wing Saber and Omega Supreme will be coming, as well as, presumably, Cybertron Optimus, Wing Saber and Leobreaker.
I do like this combination, but i don't regret not getting wing saber when i was younger. He's cool, but when you can have Omega Supreme, why bother? I do like the idea that Wing Saber can combine with the Prime force. That's so freaking cool. The combiner era was the toy design at it's best
Not to mention he's overpriced everywhere now (like over $300). I could buy 2 genuine Mpms with this guy.
He is to energon what Overload was to Armada.
A barely poseable brick that exists as a Super Mushroom for Prime?
At least Wing Saber worked out better in Cybertron. As did Prime for that matter.
I have to say thanks to you for reviewing older A/E/C toys. There are a few out there, sure, but yours are easily the most professional ones out there.
I'v ben a transformers fan sence the 90s I was actually born in 1984. But the Bay movies made me stop colecting so I turned to second hand stores and places like Ebay to find these classic gems. These reviews on youtube show these older toys are awsome and outshine the new ones in menny ways.

I just got Energon Wing Saber off of eBay, yesterday, I can't wait for it to come, so I can combined him with Optimus Prime.

just grabbed this, never saw in the store when he came out, nice to be able to combine now. I live his block-iness because I live the brick style g1 stuff. easily one of the best energon toys imo.
I have had this transformer (secondhand and broken but still cool) for 5 years and I just found out today his name. I am so excited!

So 2 wing sabers, use all red bits for amrs and legs for some sort of "sonic wing mode" (yes I know we had that in cybertron) and then use all the blue bits for a "heavy artillery mode"
it's as aerodynamic as some of the warhammer 40k aircrafts

jesus, that canon mode is awesome. looks like one toy instead of two combined, which always makes me happy.
It does remind me of Power Ranger Time Force's Time shadow due to the vehicle form and the two ways of combining with Prime
I think Wing Saber Is One of the characters I really like in Transformers Energon.
Wing mode Optimus prime Is fantastic I love It.

The two different combinations call to mind the Time Force Megazord.
Man Optimus would be like a beast with two pairs of boots.
This figure reminds me of the Time Shadow megazord.

Whenever I see a reviewer doing a video on Wing Saber, it makes me super jealous because I have Optimus and Omega Supreme, but I never got Wing Saber!! *kicks self in the face* Great review! XD

This figure was out when I just started to realise that being an adult didn't mean I coudn't collect Transformers anymore! ( thanks internet! lol ) but even though I liked the look of it I never picked it up before it left the shops in the UK and it is pretty hard to find for a reasonable price now.
I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure the version I saw in UK shops was carded rather than boxed. Maybe a European release? I came REALLY close to buying him in Tesco one day but I bought Tidal Wave and some minicons instead I think.

I'm almost 35 and I decide I wanted the combaticons/Bruticus combiners cause I never had a combiner when I was getting 90s transformers. Got a rid decepticons/Ruinationinstead but still awsome.
1 thing i'd really want to see are 2 wing saber figures and 2 optimus primes. Split the wing sabers apart into a set of red arms and red feet, repeat the process for a set of blue legs and blue set of arms. now add the red arms and feet set onto 1 optimus and the the blue limbs go onto the second optimus.
Stumbled upon him a collection someone was giving away. After watching this video, I’m thinking that was my luckiest moment.

This is the sexiest robot i have ever seen in my entire life
I just realized something.... In the original Transformers V, Optimus Prime (Ginrai) was mortally wounded by Deszaras (main baddy). Sky Saber had to "remodel" him into Victory Leo to save his life, resulting into Prime combining as a power up for Sky Saber to form Victory Saber. Now on Transformers Superlink (Energon) the creator turned everything around, having Sky saber be the subordinate, be the one killed, and be the one turned into a power up. Meh okay...
I always liked putting his blue arms on with the leg sockets and having like a punching prime mode.
Usually single main figures tends to be and look better than their combined mode, but here it's the total opposite...
The main problem with figures that tend to combine is often the fact that one of the modes will look not that great mostly if you compare to the show where the designers tend to deform either modes to make them look good.
This also happen with a vehicle or robot mode ...
Though here wingsabers lack of posability is reminescent of his twin combiner modes and the way it actually combines. most figures when it splits in half have the head going into one of the sides.
Though wing saber is king of supposed to be a full armor / weapon bay for Prime in his own and it pretty much uses some sort of symbolix way to do that because in the show the combining sequence looks great.

I like the Cannon mode better because Optimus looked more balanced than the Wing Mode.
I actually found a junker Wingsaber, body was busted, but I still could use his legs, so I can make a quad cannon mode prime. :D
In wing mode he resembles Star convoy which is cool.

They could've retooled thrilling 30 Megatron into this guy
He did show his altmode once in the series but was not clearly seen because optimus was hanging from him whilst flying and he powerlinked to optimus directly after that instead of first transforming.
Prior to reformatting, his show model never had an alt. mode. After reformatting into Wing Saber, we saw his new alt. mode plenty of times.
He was orginally called saber and he was a guard that never transformers in show but he was severally damaged by megaton so they upgraded him into wing saber and he did show off his alt mode as wing saber but not saber

I think the designers were mainly focused on the combination aspect more than the figure, I think that was Superlinx's main thing.
Edit: Yeah from the transformation alone Wing Saber was never meant to pose. Lol.

found a japanese one at a second hand shop and bought it, word of warning you are gonna have a hard time finding those guns or barrels if its missing them, had to hit up mercari for someone selling a set of orphaned legs for those
something of an extra note even if it is complete, the friction joint in the shoulder that it hinges on is easily worn down so it might not be a bad idea to drill it out and replace it with a pin if yours is badly worn, i had to to get any use out of it
Problem I had when I was younger and had him was wanting another one. I wanted to have two and do my own combining with Prime. As for Gundam colors, I'd say Wing Zero or Burning Gundam match best.

I watched the show and own all of Optimus Supreme's component toys. Still think this final combination was an utter waste of resources, especially as a "step up" from Wing Optimus Prime. It just feels like slapping one robot into the chest of the other, not something that I'd be happy about.
in the cartoon, wingsaber leg became prime's arm. wingsaber arm become prime leg
so can wing saber connect in some way with "omega prime"?
