    Big thanks for doing this Tony as I now have a better understanding of epoxy primer and it's uses. Saying that I have seen people lay their basecoat straight over WoW epoxy but I didn't think you could do that unless their are some that you can. You have put a lot work into this one mate and it's looking great so far. 🤗👍
    The people that comment on here saying you don't know what you are doing or that you are a wannabe painter are themselves either jealous or have no idea where to start on a job like this. These nay sayers are just armchair painters who have watched some car restoration shows on the TV and think they are experts and know jack💩 about it 😁😂

    LIke the wet on wet process. I do that with a paint manufacturer here in the US. Tamco has some products like that. They have a single stage urethane that you can wet on wet clear on flash. Really nice for having more on there to buff. Great for show car or home job where you will need to color sand and buff.

    Listened to you talking about some of the negative people making comments. I am a diy restorer. I own 10 classic cars and repair them as a hobby.
    I am a time served Plumber with over 40 years experience. I can honestly say that if you put two Plumbers on the same job with identical tools and materials. They would both have their own way of doing it.
    I think a good tradesman is defined by his ability and his willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
    From what I have seen of your work you should be proud of the results you have achieved. You are obviously doing the best you can within the specification set for you by the customer.
    Maybe some of these so called experts should show some of their work and put it up for scrutiny.
    I think as long as you can walk away from a finished job, be proud to put your name to it and happy that you have done your best. I do not think you will ever have a problem.
    Enjoying your channel

    Great advice about the real world. Just did a motorcycle spider front sub-frame with nautical epoxy primer from Titan (probably 1/3 of the cost of MIPA's). Very very thick, used a 2 mm Iwata and was still difficult to flow. 3 hours under ambient temperature and then 1 full hour under the IR light. The primer was still not fully cured. Followed this by a direct gloss black paint and repeated the IR light. One week later it's rock hard. Really successful process, almost wet-on-wet. Surface is thick, chunky looking textured, but for a motorcycle sub-frame it looks sturdy.

    Hi, Great video. Lots to learn. I am doing a similar job on a 73 charger, have blocked the whole car, some small areas have gone to bare metal on edges and the odd 50p size meta exposure on some panels.
    I am using a zinc spray can primer to seal the bare metal areas. My question is, is the epoxy necessary, or can I just use a high build primer and then paint? Advice appreciated.

    Great vid, exactly what i was looking for, thanks! About to have a go at wet on wet for first time. I was surprised you left it for an hour before the hi build. Is that because epoxy takes longer to cure than paint? I was going to wait 20 mins in an unheated booth, sounds like that will cause problems.

    Tony, today is the first time I have seen one of your videos and like the way you add all the details as you go along, I totally agree with you regarding not stripping the paint to bare metal, particularly as modern day 2 pack sealers are so effective and sandable and stripping to bare metal is not going to make any big if any difference in the finished job. Looking forward see seeing your other videos and learning from them, many thanks.

    Love your approach and attitude to the so called professionals. Maybe just sour grapes, maybe they thought that they were good until they viewed your productions. Everyone does the same job in very different ways, take a very different approach. Maybe their just afraid to learn new. Sound very sad people. I worked in Bio-Medical research and development for 13 years, and to get the job I bet 14 University degree honour's holders in Bio Medical Research, something that I was not qualified in. 13 years I only left because Meridian USA took over. I then went into vehicle repair. I'm more than delighted to learn something new every day. So thank you. We all open to some kind of criticism no-one is perfect. But hey! if you haven't got something nice to say, best say nothing no need for insults. Great work, keep it coming there are plenty waiting for the next production.

    I have some Chameleon products that have an epoxy with a urethane primer that you put on like that. great way to get great adhesion and still have a sand able product on the top. I also use a product that is a urethane encaplulater. has really good adhesion and rust encapsulation. Not recommended for heavy rust but if there is minor sanded and treated rust it will hold out for many years.

    Hi Tony,
    Apologies for dragging you back to this vid but everytime I watch it I learn something new. Can't remember if I mentioned it but I ripped all the rot out of my T4 and did a 'first aid' respray under a 9x9 gazebo....using Mipa products.
    I accidentally did the wet on wet technique around the window shut as I only had one gun I had to thin the epoxy right down.....went on like a dream.
    Question: I plan to do pretty much the same thing you've done to the camper however my bus has quite a few layers of paint on it now.
    I want to take it all back to primer (ish), which I know is going to mean shed-loads of work. Should I convert a grinder to a soft backed sander and smash it with 150 discs or would you recommend another approach.
    Love the info you put out Tony......really appreciated.

    • @TonysRefinishingTV
      @TonysRefinishingTV  2 года назад

      Honestly buddy you’ll probably be faster paint stripping it back than sanding it’ll take weeks to sand it all back that far if there’s a lot of layers

All the best to you and yours for the new year. 🙂

      for sure sometimes I would rather keep the original undercoats there too for better protection if they are not compromised. useing that epoxy as a sealer gives it better adhesion and a strong seal coat under the primer. Kind of like another coat of steel.

    Gotta feel for those keyboard ninjas, they more than likely aspire to paint but lack the fortitude or will to try resulting in them directing the dislike they have for themselves at others doing what they wish they could do. Substrate up restorations are great but the cost and time involved can quickly become astronomical plus with advancements in chemical technology it is not necessary. Your work always looks great plus you put yourself out there to help others which is awesome.

    Tony, I know are doing a good job & putting plenty of time into this job & this isn't a troll rant, but stripping a bus to bare metal with paint stripper & a bit of 40g is not a weeks work, 2 days max 1 person, if you didn't do the roof. A lot of the time you've spent on it ie 14 days, has been spent feathering out bad repairs & poor previous paintwork, stripping would have been quicker & better IMO. I'm not knocking what you've done as you are a hardworking guy that knows his stuff.

    • @TonysRefinishingTV
      @TonysRefinishingTV  3 года назад +1

      Very true mate but then the whole bus needs to be bodyworked from the ground up , who knows how many hours filler work , dent pulling , straightening panels will be needed after it’s all been stripped back to bare metal ???

      @@TonysRefinishingTV I do restore cars & I run my own business, as you know there are digital paint gauges that tell you paint thickness so can detail areas prior to stripping back, also bore scopes for getting into cavities, these are the methods I use to investigate my jobs, but I do restoration, not general painting as you do. I like what you do mate, not knocking it.
