Amazing Tony! After seeing the bus this week all the work has definitely been worth it. I cant wait to get it back now.
Thanks buddy can’t wait to see your face when it’s all done man it’ll be one nice bus
Tony - not at all boring. It just shows that a good job need the prep done right
Thanks Peter
sorry about the buffering during the premiere its youtube not the video hope you all enjoy
Hi Tony ...... that isn’t boaring far from it.... very detailed to help people ...... thank you
Thanks rich and your welcome mate
This video series is my favourite so far. Probably because Baywindow kombi restoration is 90% of my work. The weeks of blocking are very rarely seen on RUclips on these big bread loafs.
Top job Tony
Lol yeah not many people show the endless hours that goes into them and thanks man
Tony, I really appreciate your videos. You do a great job of laying out the process in an easy-to-understand manner. I like how you lay out the order of operation and name the products that you are using. I have watched many other RUclips presenters on this topic and I think you do the best job! Thank you!
thanks bruce i try my best mate
I wish my painter worked as hard and good as you. My car was in the paint shop for 1.5 years and i got excuse after excuse. In the end, I could have done it myself! Well done bud
Such a shame mate some jobs we have in are with us for a long time tbh but it depends on the work involved
I always paint the roof separate too. Easy to get runs or dry spots going up and down like that. Back mask behind the drip rail like you say and it get a bit of extra material on the top edge of the drip that way.
100% mate the best way
@@TonysRefinishingTV Honestly I think your work is top notch. I dont do that kind of work anymore. More shortcuts and still get a decent job but not like yours.
Thanks man I really appreciate that buddy
Fantastic really appreciate your videos Tony. Have a cracking weekend pal 👍
Thanks Jason and you too mate
This is great! It gives me an idea of how long it's going to take my project to complete.
Absolutely brilliant Tony. Cracking job mate. I love watching your work! You are an inspiration! 🙏🙏👍
Ah thanks man 🙏
Thanks Tony, Many folk think just because you paint cars your very good with a brush 🤣 especially when they tell you that the whole panel shouldn't need painted for the small dent and broken paint they have on their front wing, this is how it's done and what it takes in this trade not to mention passion, thanks again Tony👍
Lol thanks man
Very helpful video thanks Tony.
Your welcome Doug thanks for watching
Great video mate👍That’s a mountain of work you got thru on your own , fair play . Great tips as always . I love the prep videos . Spraying is the easy bit . The stages of filling , primer and sanding then more filling and more sanding I find harder than the painting. Looking forward to the painting also. Keep up the great work
Thanks man glad you enjoyed it it’s done
Thing abit different I guess
We want paint, we want paint, we want paint... :) Good to see how much effort goes into getting a great looking job. Flat panels do not come out of thin air. No pain no gain as they say.
Lol paint very soon buddy and no your right there man
This video was not boring it shows people what we go through to get a decent job, i'm sure sometimes they think we have a magic wand. Anyway have a rest after all blocking kid nice work .
Lol thanks Jimmy abs yeah it’s good to show customers just how long it really does take
Another cracking job as always mate when I saw how you put the filler with your finger bright back a memorie of how I put filler on pin holes but I used my thumb the side part of my thumb I found it helped put little on but just enough to cover then easier to flat out I think this vid shows people just how much work goes into a paint job I think I mentioned before about some people wanting to know if they can come back same day for there car ha ha 😂 cracking vid mate
Lol yeah man that’s one reason I thought I’d carry the series on people seem to like this job and like seeing the mountain of work involved too
Great work tony
Thanks John
You never seece to amaze me with the attention to detail
Thanks roger I try my best mate
Great footage Tony, you explain your craft very professionally, it's great to see and watch some one work with passion, I'm a cabinet maker by trade and it's my Hoby now not my job,
Look forward to the paint proses 👍
Thanks Simon and also it’s amazing that that much comes across in a video too
its really looking good and yeah so many hours go into it
Yeah man just a few
Nice work Tony, this shows how much work can go into painting a bus, even at this stage of the job. Regarding blocking down filler, I always guide coat that too btw.
Yeah mate so much work before the final paint stage that people don’t even think about worh these jobs
cracking video i feel your pain. i hate blocking 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Lol not fun is it mate
Awesomeness Tony 👑👑👑👑
Thanks Bruce
Cracking edit Tony, I remember what a pain in the rear end this process is lol brings back memories of doing my vito so feel your pain buddy. Have a great wk end dude 🤙👌🤘👍
Lol yeah not fun but the final result will be worth it mate
After watching this video,my bike panel prep was pitiful, these videos are a lot more helpful than you think.
Thank Stephen some things need silly prep others not so much it all depends on the job at hand I guess
The finish is in the preparation. I once had a tradesman repairing the roof on my unit. He came into the garage when I was doing a bit of blocking. He just stood there and said, "That looks really fucking boring"!! 😂
Lol not the most fins of jobs I guess your right there but all worth it to see the final product
not boring bud. Its important to show the 90% of the job real body men don't get much credit for. And its nice to see that i'm not the only one that takes so bloody long at this sort of thing too.
Lol no mate jobs like this take hour after hour man just have to keep chipping away at them
At bloody work till 10pm watch at 8 when I get a brew break 👍👍
Spose il let you off this once
@@TonysRefinishingTV gaffer went home at half 7 I'm watching now so having a brew feet up phone on 😂😂
Nearly there now bro that bus is going to look mint !! Hard going blocking it on your own bud but worth it deffo 👍👍👍
Yeah man it’ll make a nice piece when it’s done
@@TonysRefinishingTV for sure my man have a great weekend
The drone footage is cool tony 👍
I’m sure we can sort some mate for the final video
@@TonysRefinishingTV if u check out slr rebuilt channel after a rebuild he takes the car for a spin and puts the drone up its very impressive
I will take a look man
Wooow Tony big big job haha 😂 a lot off elbow grease on this job Tony But the job came out wonderful spot on much love and respect ✊ too you Tony keep it up 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌👌👌🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙👊👊👊👊👊✊✊✊✊✊💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Thanks buddy
Great video Tony you are really putting a lot of time and effort into the old bus mate and it's looking very nice so I'm looking forward to seeing the paint go on, I bet it's going to look mint.
As I'm couch bound yet again due to my back for the last couple of days I just watched your McLaren repaint again and comparing the two jobs you have done your usual detailed prep work no matter what the vehicle costs the amount of prep is the same, I better stop here as I'm loosing my train of thought so will be making even less sense than I normally do, I'm dosed to the max with pain killers! 🥴😵😂
Lol well make sure you rest up buddy
Beautiful job mate , very relaxing to watch xd0
Thanks man
You made a dolphin glaze booby. It made me giggle. Awesome work with this van. One day I will have a bay to send to you
What dolphin glaze booby lol ?
As novice your videos are very useful, I'm planning to do a bare metal respray on my old consul, I am planning to put the Mipa epoxy on with a roller and I did not consider using the 4 to 1 high build. Would you recommend the use of a roller with this epoxy. Ps I have the E25 hardener.
Honestly no mate I’d try to spray it if you can mate
Hi Tony ... what hardener did you use in the epoxy thanks
I like this project lot of time spent blocking on this van good information my quistion is did you make the blocks you are using tony see you on the next episode Tony take good care
Hi mate and thanks buddy yes I made the blocks buddy and they will be up for dale next month on our website mate
Ace work fella. I'm doing the long panel on my 72 bus at the mo and it's busting my balls. The panel can move so easy and I'm not even pushing on it while blocking with 80. Struggling to get it lazer straight.
See if the panels have come away from the supports mate behind if they have bond them back on it’ll stiffen it up , also try and use some real nice easy sand filler like the new upol premium range it’ll help massively as it takes no pressure on the block to sand off
@@TonysRefinishingTV panels all secured Tony no looseness all spot welded up.. But I'll definitely try that filler. Cheers fella..
No worries mate they are a pain these things for flexing
Get your self a yacht block for the big panels. Work wonders on the vw buses, especially the long sides.
We don’t do to many like this tbh our hog blocks more then enough
@@TonysRefinishingTV yeah I get ya, 🤟
Aye Aye. My thoughts would have been with a white primer tinted to the undercoat colour that's recommended for the topcoat. Buts that's just me 😱
The bottoms going a light grey mate and the top in l90d both will more than cover this grey
Back again Tony , quick question I’m painting my 83 golf Paintwork is pretty good bar the two wings which I primered and painted would you recommend using primer on the rest of the car or scuff and paint ? Thanks
If the paints good mate scuff if not prime mate
I was always shown to block primer with 180 then 320, then 600 Wet. do you feel cutting it with 240 and 400 ensures no scratches shown through the paint work? I will try 240,400 on my next job
its job colour and product specific , its being done in direct gloss so its fine , metallic silver no it would be best to go to 500 however wet sanding primer is a big no as primer soaks up the moisture
Ok, so this is great.. really enjoying this camper work.
Question, how do you get away with DA'ing after blocking? Are you just very careful not to gouge the panel and introduce any wobbles? Does blocking only need to be done once to straighten everything out.
basically yes always keep the sander flat and use an interface pad on the sander which helps keep the pressure even
Hi Tony, really nice work you doing there!
I have a question about using the mirka dry guide coat. Can i use filler directly over the low spot with the dry coat on it, or i need to wash it of somehow or scuff it again?
I have to do the same work on my own vw t2 bus in the near future and i am not a painter 😅
Greetings from Germany
On something like this mate where it’s very small then I wipe with a cloth and blow off with the airline then apply straight over mate I’ve never had an issue
Thanks for recording this Tony. Over the covid break I rebuilt my T4: steps, inner and outer arches and come sill work. Because it was looking like a patchwork quilt I rushed the filler work and just slapped some epoxy, then high built (coincidentally the exact same products and method as you have demonstrated, but with out the guide coat) then single stage...under a 9x9 gazzebo....all with an ANI R 160Q : )
It actually had come out very well considering it was an emergency job, first aid approach which I always have planned to return to a do 'a proper job' with.
So watching this has really explained the reason why the filler looks 90%, and why I really struggled sanding back.
I'm really confident with the 'return match' after watch this, so a massive thanks from me.
PS: where can we get those acrylic blocks from? Ta
Thanks Richard and glad you enjoyed the video too , we will be releasing the blocks in the next month or so I think just abit mad busy atm but it’ll be soon
@@TonysRefinishingTV £20k for bare metal refinish. I'm clearly in the wrong job.
..as you say, that is a very niche market
@@richardunderwood5265 lol you may think that but a bare metal job your looking probably 300 plus hours of work to put it back into paint from the ground up plus welding work and materials cost soon adds up massively
@@TonysRefinishingTV Sorry Tony I didn't mean it to come across like they were over quoting. No, I totally get why it's that price...100% really ball-aching laborious work. My point was most folk can't afford to spend that.
Apologies if it came across as anything else.
Hey tony, what can I do to fix a hard edge from sloppy masking? I was doing my tailgate and I didn't take into account that a portion of it is not covered by plastic trim and I just masked it there without being too careful (working above my head, it is an eastate)? It's not a fail, turned out great, but you can spot bad masking if you open the tailgate and give it some time :D
Oops , you can try and wet flat and polish it back abit to hide it abit mate otherwise you’d have to sand it out and blow it in mate
Nice upload buddy, but dont forget your dustmask the next time when you blocksand. Think about your health. Money is not everything
I’m bad for it mate but will be putting some dust extraction and new masks in for sanding very soon
I can appreciate the effort having done a couple of similar jobs a few years back
Thanks man
I used U-pol Dolphin glaze on a bumper cover and ended up with more pin holes than I started. It was super frustrating
have to say mate no idea how lol
@@TonysRefinishingTV I probably aerated it when I mixed it
Here's a fun fact for you Tony. Do you actually know what dry guide coat is? It's copier or laser printer toner. Like Post It Notes some engineer at 3M wanted to copy something and the copier was out of toner which at that time was not part of a cartridge but came in bottles which you poured into the machine. While doing so some spilled out and when he tried to wipe it up it spread around like anti-sieze. Eureka moment. Went into the lab and found that it made great guide coat. Another 3M accident that turned into a multi-million dollar product.
I knew it was toner yes buddy but funny how 3m always seem to land on there feet with these things hey lol 😂
I use $0.99 can of Walmart Flat Black
streamer plays games get donations for fun stuff, this stuff have worth, learning, education and etc i hope other could support. Because is your time and effort to make vids
Thanks abs I have to say I really appreciate it too mate these do take a lot of time and equipment to make so every little helps thanks man 🙏

Sorry. Pished again 😂
Man you look SO TIRED at the end of the video.
To say it had been a long week one way or another is an understatement mate lol
