Dear Fallon, Have a Happy New Year! I've watched this tutorial a few times and finally figured it out. Yes it is simple but I modified it, so now it's called, "Marion's modified disappearing nine patch". My quilt guild gave me 11" square blocks of fabrics, plus 2.5, 3, and 2 inch strips. So instead of nine blocks, I cut them into five inch squares and sewed a 2.5 inch strip on the right side, then sewed a 2.5 inch strip to a 2.5 inch square, then sewed that to the top. So it resembles a nine patch after it is sliced thru the middle and sides. More work but today I sew all the blocks together. Plus I can look at my Christmas tree lit up and I am happy! Take care, Marion in Oregon
Fallon, thank you so much for this video I have not seen a video where the disappearing nine patch is made with 10 inch squares not cut up. I like how I don't have to use an entire layer cake. I will definitely be making this. Although I don't know if I can be as fast as you. ☺
I found your video while in search of a stashbuster quilt. Since I have made only charity quilts, mine are always 40x48; as requested by groups we donate to. I love this one & have made D9P before, but this will really help me with my production. Now, I just have to do the math, to figure out what size to cut the biggest squares I can, for my project. I think I'll start with 8"-9" blocks. Thanks for sharing this. One suggestion I have for those with smaller cutting mats: press the big 9-patch block along the center both ways, then while folded, cut (trim scant amount) along that centerline w big square ruler. You may need to square up your blocks after these 2 cuts.
Awesome! I've done disappearing 9 patches with charms but not layer cakes. These would be so quick for service project quilts! Thanks for this thought ♥️
Yes! I absolutely agree! I may make a few more to donate because my goal is really to use up some of my stash this year and not purchase a lot of fabric.
I have some John Deere printed material and co-ordinating solid green to make a quilt for my grandson but didn't want to cut it up into small squares. Wanted to highlight the print. Think this will be perfect. It's leftover from 15 years ago when I made twin size quilts for two of my grandsons, but never got one done for my third grandson who is now 17...lol. Think this will be perfect to get done quickly so I can finally give him one. He's into machinery, so perhaps he'll use it after a long day at his summer job for a quick snooze on the couch. Thanks for the idea.
Love it so much! Especially using the solid focus fabric - such a pretty accent!! Adding this to my quickly growing "need to make" list! Thanks so much!♥️
I actually started one like this using 9 nine patches to start before Christmas. But then got sick and am now making two toddler quilts (I never make baby sized) and a twin bed as quick as I can before I get back to it.
A few years ago, I made a king size quilt like this. I used layer cakes for the centers & 4 corners with one light batik fabric for the 4 sides. It’s a fun project. I love my quilt!
Oh my goodness! LOVE THS! I will be suggesting this block for our charity quilt workshop coming up! I will be sure to send out the video to the guild, too! Thank you!
I have a bunch of novelty prints I've collected to make I Spy quilts but not looking forward do sewing a zillion small squares, this'll keep the size decent and ensure that the objects can be seen/found. Love this idea. Thanks.
So happy I found your video! I have been looking for a big block to make for my king size bed . This is perfect!! 😊 Now I can use my pile of fat quarters!
I have the perfect layer cake for this. And I love this technique. Thank you for showing us how to make a great looking quilt! New subscriber today! Looking forward to more videos of yours!

Thank you. A great way to reduce my stash
You are a awesome teacher, thank you 😀
Fallon I love the huge 9 patch quilt. I would like to see it laid out or hang on wall. Thank you!
The answer to the two baby quilts waiting for me to make. Great idea.
Oh that would be great! And you can find so many cute prints to highlight for a baby quilt!
I like the idea of adding a contrasting fabric for a focus!.

I really like that quilt design!
It’s a fun and quick quilt! Thank you for watching.
I really enjoy your tutorials! You are awesome!!
Thank you!
I love the quilts that let me show off my fav fabrics! Great job 😊
Will definitely make this. Thanks for sharing.
I really like the idea of using 10 inch blocks! I like making table toppers, so one square would make a beautiful table topper!
I totally agree!
Thank you for sharing how you measure in to cut on that inner seam! I never knew that. 😊❤Great ideas and enthusiasm about this block!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Yes! More giant blocks!

Christine me too! Sometimes I don't love an entire line of fabric so being able to pick exactly what prints I want to use works so well!
@@sewbeitquilts😊😊
I love the pattern and how fast it comes together!! I will definitely try this one! Thanks!
You’re welcome!
I love it !
Thank you!
thanks for talking about the tiny zigzag edges!

The math can be the most challenging part. You can always add a border if you come up a tad short for the charity! Happy quilting!
Very nice and fun! TY
I love that this is beginner friendly.❤❤
Glad you like it!
I just got the cascade layer cake and i am going to make this.
Great idea for those larger scale prints, too! Thanks!
You bet! It can be so hard to work larger scale prints into some patterns!
I will be making this. Thank you!!
Thanks Fallon, excellent video. Lots of helpful hints for thos of us who don’t have the space etc. ☺️🇦🇺❤️
Thank you! The space was really what I struggled with! It took me a bit to realize I could measure from a seam!
