    I’ve got a 07 v10, the battery system is a little complex on these cars. Battery under the passenger seat provides power to all modules, you can jump this using the engine bay terminals. The battery in the boot is just for starting the engine and only connects to the system when the key is turned. The volt gauge on the dash only shows the voltage of the battery under the passenger seat. If that battery is not supplying more than 10v to the modules they won’t talk to vcds. A lot of electrical gremlins clear up with a fully charged battery.

    Hi Dean, Before you test the ECU look at the immobiliser module as when these go faulty they stop you connecting to the ECU. Its worth spending time on this car and when you sort out what may be one electrical fault everything else will seem straight forward.

    Either way, you may hate it, but worth the work just for the sake of getting the V10 running good again.
    Looking forward to more on this 👍🏼

    The important battery on these is the supply battery under the seat. The one in the boot is only for starting the engine. Touaregs and phaetons are extremely picky about battery’s. Slight low voltage and not using AGM battery’s can cause any electrical problem you can possibly think of. Also charging the rear battery does not charge the battery under the seat, as it’s only connected when in use or being charged by the alternator. You can charge the supply battery from the terminals under the hood, but you’re technically not supposed to, as it can also upset he cars electronics

    • @andrewmacfarlane9448
      @andrewmacfarlane9448 2 года назад +2

      Agreed. I've now installed a 60ah 1450ca lithium battery under the seat. Fixed all my hot start issues. Battery only weights 8kg too.

    • @alexp893
      @alexp893 2 года назад +6

      Indeed - there are TWO batteries in these and it is crucial they are both fully charged and in perfect health; these cars hate low voltages.
      Check for water ingress in both front footwells - the sound insulation under the carpet holds water like a sponge and will slowly corrode the electrical components located there.
      I don't think it's a 2003 car. The headlights suggest it's a facelift 2006 and onwards model.
      What a wonderful machine and we will never see their like again so you need to save it! Get those two batteries replaced then take it from there. Cheers!

  • @MattyEngland
    @MattyEngland 2 года назад +18

    Check the fuses mate. Could be that the fuse is gone for the obd2 socket. You should have 12v on pin 16 at all times.
    If they are OK and you have an oscillascope, then if you check pins 6 and 14 you'll be able to see if you have a good CAN waveform. It should look like a mirror image, so as one signal goes high the other goes low.
    If you don't have an oscillascope then you could try unplugging modules one by one and retrying vcds, as if you have a bad module it can mess up the whole CAN system.

      I have a fully loaded V8 and absolutely love it (aside from the cost of ownership). If I were to have bought a new Corolla, I would be upside down the same amount of money in the end (factoring in maintenance and additional fuel costs). I keep mine meticulously maintained, and most people can't believe it's a 2005. You get way more for your money than a brand new Corolla too (except for Apple CarPlay and resale value). If you can afford a $20,000 car, I'd highly recommend a V10 Touareg (or W12)

    I remember when this beast was launched. VW had a video icon showing the crank pulley with soundtrack of it ticking over, it said what does a V10 diesel sound like? It was hypnotic. I was totally sold on this car, ( but couldn’t afford it, or anything else much at the time!). Mr Sensible says bin it, but Mr I Love V10’s says sort it. Obviously had a Construction, agricultural or transport sort of dude owning it at some time, with rough hands, that scraped off all the interior trim! I just find the sound of that engine hypnotic, perhaps you should sell it as a living sculpture with a hypnotic soundtrack - different 👍😎😂

    I have one of these monsters, it's abit of a problem child but I can live with it. The v10 has 2 batteries, one in the boot and another under the passenger seat, I think the reason why vdcs can't read the car is because the battery under the seat is dead, this battery runs all aux and the battery in the boot starts the engine. Try charging both batteries, Please don't scrap it, do the right that by this rare beast and put it back as it should be. It will put a massive smile on your face when you pit your right down.

    I have a 2004 V10. I bought it as a none runner. The engine ran but nothing else. I didn't communicate with vcds, which after careful testing etc was a combination of furred up contacts (from standing) in the main power relay next to the battery under the passenger seat and a faulty 'kessy' module. This is the keyless entry module which has two of the three can bus lines running through it. Faulty unit, two can bus lines down. From memory I couldn't talk to the transmission, the air suspension or the bcm. I repaired it with two transistors from Cricklewood electronics for about £17.00. If the kessy unit is playing up, it'll keep making the battery under the passenger seat go flat. Good luck👍

    Hi Mate, I have a V10 Phaeton and have a few pointers. The car has two engine ECUs and VCDS will not auto connect to them! you have to manually tell it what type of car it is. The door indicator will be the actual switch, try spraying some some brake cleaner in the latch mechanism and blow it out with air. They get dirty. It's worth looking the turbo seals and cams, both common issues and something you want to know about before sinking money into it. Cost me £2k in parts/tools to do the cams and mechanical pumps. The tools are hard to get as VW don't sell some of them now, so let me know if you need them. That whistling noise is likely a leak, mine doesn't do that.

    I love my Touareg. Mine is a 2006 V6 altitude and I absolutely adore mine. If you keep on top of these motors they are brilliant. The V10 is a great car with mechanical drive to the gearbox. Biggest problem with the V10 is the idiots that by them short term and rag them 0-60 and 0-100 all the time, keep them a few months then sell them on. Lots of gremlins with them electrical wise so you really have to keep on top of them. Can't wait to see if you get this car turned around they are very rare and sort after now.

    Those problems scream water damaged modules. It may have been driven through a neighbours pond at some stage in a moment of madness.
    The Sills can fill with water and play havoc with the floor mounted modules.

Shut the boot and of course it locked immediately. I had to smash the rear light and reach for that white release! Just FYI the drivers side turbo actuator can be changed from underneath if you need to but try and get both of the rod's clean and greased for a start. Others have mentioned the seat battery. The rear one will be fine.

    Be good to see this one up and running if your patience can stand it! Don't see many of these around and fairly rare on U Tube so would be something a bit different.

    When doing that wheel make sure you heat it up before you hammer it or it will crack and snap also the pressure of the tyre could cause it to blow the cracked off piece towards you so also air down the tyre!

    Yes I think you should sort out the gremlins. V10 is an unusual and interesting car. Will be a fun set of videos, sorting it out

    The green indicator on batteries only shows the SG of one cell and so is only a rough guide. Interesting project an unusual and complex car, but the fact that there are so many alarms may be a good thing in the long run as they may all be common. I would persevere as running right this would be a reasonably desirable car -- I think £2.4k was a bit steep though !

    If you need any insight on issues or have any questions, let me know. I’m very well versed in the V10’s, even having done many “engine out” jobs without pulling the engine. Once you get the small stuff worked out and keep up on regular maintenance, its very reliable. One of the best cars I’ve ever had

      Maybe you can help with my orange 'running gear fault' light! I have a 2004 2.5 TDI with air suspension. The air suspension works fine and as it shouldd do but i have this damn light on the dash all the time!

    V10 has 2 batteries, the one you saw is the secondary one that is only used if
    you use the key in the ignition turning it counter clockwise before turning it clockwise.
    The main battery is under the front seat.

    Keep it! Would make a perfect towcar for all your other projects. Have a word with Darkside Developments channel. They're running 2 Modified V10's and a V6.

    Personally dean I love these motors, would make good content to fix the issues and replace the worn interior components and get it back to match fit.

    Bro, touareg with a water leak. That's mold not moss. Check the splice in the wiring harness at the foot well. It will be gone. Restore power to gateway and the dlc. When you ran the test with vcds it stated no 12v at dlc. I paid $1750 for my v10tdi. It needed a valve body, propshaft and de-sludging. Super solid ride now. And faster than my stage 2 gti.

    First of all tried to make an gateway module and check power supply on module.Not only 30+ and ground.And 15+.After ignition.If there is OK You can read the blocks,which work.After this must check can-bus data on gateway module.Secondary tried to do this procedure on Comfort module.
