Battery definitely needs to be load tested on a battery tester. The cockpit battery is usually the culprit with the touareg. All sorts of nonesense happens. Those batteries charge up but when they are dodgy they drain out and might give you around the 12 volt mark but wont have the stored energy in them.. Sort it and drive it and you will be impressed.
When you started the car you didn’t use the battery under the seat. As you can see the clocks reset when you managed to start it, this is because you turn the key counter clockwise, by doing that you tell the car to use the aux battery in the boot, when it switches to the boot battery the car will be momentarily without power and thus the clock resets. To only use the main battery under the seat you should use the keyless button on the centre console, or using the key inside the dash, but you should turn it only clockwise without backing it up for a instant counterclockwise, if the key is stuck and will not pull out it mens the main battery is very low and the car ends up in a limbo, not having enough power to switch to the aux battery and also unable to release the solenoid holding the key blade in the dash.
Had a similar issue on a Mercedes SUV. worked fine sometimes then it would suddenly not turn on again, it would drain the battery FAST and then sometimes work perfectly ok. Turned out to be the fuses, prior owner had messed with them and put the wrong kind of fuses in multiple slots. Im lucky it didnt cause an electrical fire....but i sorted out the correct fuses and its been working perfectly for about 2 years now
Hi. I'm glad that it saveble. Commented on the last video about the facelift. The rear lights are also "lifted". Facelifted versions have them factory tinted. I have 2008 v6 Touareg with all the radar cc, heated steering, airride, keyless and all the goodies. Have had it 8 years. Yes the electrical grimlins are there and you have to budget 1500 to 2000€ every year for maintanance but i still love it. 176kw chipped to 195kw or so. + airlift on sport and it behaves like a normal car not suv. I woult like to feel v10 once. But i know i cant own it :D
The battery is knackered. 11.98 after 9 hours of charging is not good. You need a proper battery check tool to be sure but it should go to 12.4v basically in a few hours then end up at 12.9-13.1. The little colour thing in the hole is not trustworthy, its just a pellet that reacts to the electrolyte level.
Great video! Thank you! Please keep the car, it seems that with a little bit of effort invested it will sure be a lot of fun and adventure. It doesn't look like a ticking time bomb, unless there is something wrong with the engine.
I owned a 2003 v10 tdi And every time it failed to start because of the battery, that traction control light came up and it didn’t go off until i drove a kilometer or two faster than 30kmh. It will work on yours too 👍
I had one of these a few years ago , after about a year the alternater went .VW wanted 1600€ for a new one , it's liquid cooled plus fitting .eBay wanted around 600 for a second hand one .I took it to a Bosch repair agent and he got it fixed for around 130€ 👍saved me a lot of money 🙂
If that is a hard fault on the steering angle sensor that would stop the air suspension from working. Then again it will need running for a mile or two just to make sure…
The air suspension adjustment light will go out after driving a few 100 yards, watch out for a power drain after a few days of not using it, I have this problem now. Glad to see that you are going ahead with putting the car back on the road.
you might check up on the ecu of the air suspension, on a Q7 3.0TDI of my old boss this thing failed in the way of the CAN-Bus not shutting down because the ECU was not able to recive the shut down message from the gateway. the friend had to replace the air suspension ecu. there was no way of fixing it
Got one of these in the family, had a similar issue where it would just shut down completely. For us it turned out to be the main connector on the ECU had at loose connector on the board side, had to send it off to a specialist to refurb it
No that's not ok! 11.98V It should be around 12.5 V but closer to 13V is normal for a fresh battery! So Im pretty positive it's the battery, if it sinks that low (9V) during cranking your battery is just not up for the 'electronics job'. Those electronics need a more than healthy battery or they will go haywire. Got that from Scotty Kilmer on his channel, cheers..!
the dash light with the triangle is down to traction control....I reckon if you drive it up and down the lane a few times, brake hard, go max lock left and right most of VCDS will clear..
Battery under seat was down to less than 2 volts, probably for a while which usually results in the battery capacity going down big time, even though it appears to charge fine, it will lose its charge very fast.
What all needs changed to do the facelift? Is it hood, grill and fenders? Also, on touaregs, there are factory wire splices behind the driver's side (US) kick panel's that corrode very badly due to the sunroof drains. There are 3 I believe in total on the U.S. V8 model's. I believe it's the same for all models. It's an easy fix once you get into it. Also, the kessy system is a known battery drainer on the 1st gen. I took the kessy box out and took the 2 modules off of the board. Then I took the door panel's off and unplugged the door handle buttons. Once I took care of those 2 issue's, I've had no more battery drain issue's with mine. Best of luck to you, I look forward to seeing how this goes for you.
Had air suspension issues with my 2014 touareg same as yours up at the back and down at the front, turned out to be a seized level sensor crank arm (rear left) which had then broke so the car height got confused. New sensor and now i occassionally spray some white grease into each of the four level sensor arm ball joints to try and avoid it happening again.....
Looking good and enjoying the videos, please though, get the adaptors for your lift and don’t rely on bits of wood! Vehicle that size crashing off your ramps would be more than a headache! I want to keep being able to watch your videos 😬🤣
I own a 2005 V10. They don’t like bad batteries so would definitely change them. Lock to lock will clear the steering fault if it’s not actually faulty. It’s definitely running a face lift front end and is a 2004, it’s still got the pre-facelift mirrors. At this age and mileage the common faults are; Water pump Generator Oil/water gaskets in the V Thermostat Tandem pump Cam wear, especially when using wrong oil Failing plasma coating on the piston bores Bad injectors Poor glow-plugs wiring harness General suspension parts Aircon compressor Suspension compressor Residual air valves on the suspension I’ve changed most bits without pulling the engine 👍
Still think it might be stolen/cloned I would get the paper off the VIN under the screen if I were you before spending to much on it. Also Is there not a certain procedure you have to go through for lifting an air suspension vehicle?
Hi your car is low on diesel. You might have water in the diesel. Condensation in the dieseltank is normal in wintertime with warm and cold weather. Changing the dieselfilter might help the car from stopping
Don't dismiss the batteries. checking the voltage is not a great indication on battery condition, get them load tested. (halfords will do it and it can be done off the car) also check the alternator the car wouldn't start after it stopped and it sounded like flat batteries, these are very power hungry cars. Good luck with it.
As basically everyone else said - get new batteries. These cars eat batteries for breakfast. If the alternator was faulty, there would have been codes for it ("Intervention load management") and the "Consumers are switched off" message in the dash. Lucky you don't have the DPFs and the ridiculously complicated EGR cooling circuit of the 2006+. I've got all the SSP's and a bunch of other random docs on the V10 if you want them.
Hi Dean, 12v is actually a flat battery ! Ideally 12.6 to 12.8v is 100%charge each cell should be around 2.1v hence 12.6 is full. The fact you saw 11v means that battery is not good and will not have the large amps it requires mate … hope this helps
Putting head to head alloy wheel buckled+cracked, New Wishbone, Cv joint booth stretched and out of place and poorly refitted, Front bumper replaced, Light not working on same side. My opinion is that this car had a quick repair after a unrecorded little bump.
I would get the batteries load tested before you get too carried away, pretty sure somewhere like Halfords or euros will do it for free if you don’t have a tester
A fully charged battery should be showing 12.7 volts or above. Leave em on charge for 36hrs at least if you have a smart charger, you may well be able to save them both. If its down to 2 volts and you whack fast charge into it, then it wont recover properly and you risk the plates inside possibly bending.
The wheel with the damage will need repairing and a new tyre with that sort of rim damage, the rear one is cracked and needs replacing for the MOT. Nice car though!
Ignore the indicator ball on batteries, they're a poor guess at best. All they tell you is the state of the electrolyte in that one cell, nothing about the state of the other five. Also as others have said 12v is no good. New battery (and tyre please!). 1:57 "2004 car" - but first registered September 2003? While the ECU and bulkhead plate vins match, i would uncover the windscreen one for peace of mind.
The previous owner did spend ‘some’ money. Judging by the tires (all different ones) and the fact that the wishbone was only renewed on one side, I’d conclude he kept the spending to a bare minimum. Most of the time that means bad news. But who knows, you might just get lucky with this one… 🤞
So tyre is obviously cracked and could blow but to save money gonna try passing mot with on. This shows bad form. Safety should never be compromised. Have a feeling it will fail and you will fit a ditch finder tyre on.
That battery under the seat is U/S. Readings off a charged and rested battery are:- 12v = 25% charged. 12.2v= 50% charged. 12.4v = 75% charged. 12.7v= 100%charged.
Battery definitely needs to be load tested on a battery tester.
The cockpit battery is usually the culprit with the touareg.

It needs to calibrate the steering angle sensor indeed.

Cars looking pretty good Dean, still think the battery is a bit suspect, time will tell, enjoyed the vid, well done.
Yeah great news. Look forward to it being saved to live on.. all interesting stuff this. 👍👍

It wasn’t on charge that long so expected it to be slightly lower, I’ve left it on a trickle charge for 24 hours now. So will test properly 👍🏽
Battery is fucked
Great news to see ur going to sort it
the dash light with the triangle is down to traction control....I reckon if you drive it up and down the lane a few times, brake hard, go max lock left and right most of VCDS will clear..
Must have shat yourself with the face-lift front end and vin number covered up 😁 look forward to the next one on this monster 👍
Looking fairly clean too for its age.
Battery under seat was down to less than 2 volts, probably for a while which usually results in the battery capacity going down big time, even though it appears to charge fine, it will lose its charge very fast.

Awesome news we love to see it mate! Beast of a car.
That battery doesn’t look good… should have been about 12.4v after a few hours charge
Well better than " we " , thought ... looks like all go . !!
Not to bad , underneath too as you said so ,good get it going !!! ..
Great video. Well worth a save.
Darkside developments are your boys… lift kit, 34” off road tyres and tuning bits and bods 👍
I would love one of these just because. Keep at it as I think its a goer.
Good video, remember you like challenges,so this is one.just another thing for you to do.keep doing what your doing and carry on 😎😎😎👍👍👍
great video, thanks for sharing the v19 touareg experience

Good luck with V10. I had real joy.😁
Definitely speak to Darkside proformance mate they have 1 of these
Reyt then!
🤣😂😂😂 you must be joking recommending them.
@@broskis80 why?
@@haighie. don't think they do salvage jobs which means ££££
@mrD66M they don't but they have knowledge of these vehicles and I'm sure they would help out a fellow youtuber

I’ve changed most bits without pulling the engine 👍
Another great video mate what do you think of the touran as I'm looking into buying one I would love to know what you think about them
Hope you proceed with the Touareg Revive! You'll fix this!
MOT history isn't too bad either so I think you have a good one.
So you need a infrared thermometer and carefully trace the fuse box and major connectors for hot spots.
That’s a lot of car and I think it looks cool - worth saving to my mind
Good luck with the mot buddy 👍🏻👍🏻
That battery is not OK!
It shuld at least stay at 12,6V!
But always chek it under load!
that battery has had it anything that low is wasted

Hope its no the ccm when I worked at vw years ago as a fitter they were a bugger to get on the 4 poster ramps but nice to drive tho..
Good methodical and professional vid, has it got a full-size spare tyre and wheel per chance??
Space saving wheel I believe

Someone like JW Smarts Services who they use on Salvage Rebuilds UK would have the wheel TIG welded if you can't obtain another
Could the electrical cut out be related to the air suspension? It happened shortly after you changed that?
Put suspension into lift mode before lifting it off the ground
Cheers for fast new video
Could there be something shorting out and killing the battery intermittently??
Change oil and filters.
Put fesh diesel in and drive it to get everything going again

Have you put fresh fuel in? if its cutting out could be old crap fuel
Might be a bad earth on the engine bay or bad live connection engine side too !
Remind me so much of myself at work doing an Audi Cam for a customer 😂😂
The nicest looking touareg imo
How do those gauges work on the battery it's self
Batteries die if they go below a certain voltage. Keep charging them and you might be lucky they restore themselves.

Nice Audi jacket !
Maybe try to put some fresh fuel inside it might help the cutting off
When did you start mechanics mate and how old are you if you don’t mind me asking and have you always done it for a job?

What a great head of hair, I envy you sir !
you need invest, everything will return while you driving it.. very good ''on and off'' road
I'd still be looking at batteries, 12v is dead, you want significantly higher than that
Not sure the issue with that tyre is whether its a MOT fail or not, it's not safe. That could go any time.
Maybe he is planning all terrain tyres anyway 👍
These running properly would have enough torque to stop the planet ! The tyre edge wear is probably due to that heavy impact on that one front wheel
Front left suspension has been fixed where that cracked wheel is sitting. Seems like a bad case of pothole or something.
Yes quite possibly, as it didn’t fail an mot
