In today's video we find out something on the Volkswagen V10 Touareg that might just make me re-think what to do with it... - Авто/Мото
Try darkside developments on here they have one of these for off roading.
Engine out on these is actually quite easy. I picked up a 5.0v10 - 04 in vgc in devon for 2k, i drive it everywhere now, it's faaannnntastic to drive, MPG is obviously not great but... YOLO!
lol
Your cutting out could well be due to a failing relay that supplies power to the ecu and other computers. Had this exact problem on a Q5 and was a £20 fix.
Same problem on my Golf,
Absolutely same problem on my A4
No, he didn't do up the battery cable.
Bolts are "EGR delete".
These were definitely for the swirl flaps/throttle bodies, but yeah same goes for EGR
I had an exhaust leak at the exact same spot; the manifold had a 2mm crack on the flange lip. Engine out. And while it is out, you can also do the A/C compressor drive coupling.
Patently waiting for you to work on an R32. keep up the good work, I'm a car transporter too and I don't know how you find the time to make these videos
Owning 2 of these v10 s ,one work horse and one investment Sunday car, these are the smartest autistic student who needs to be dumbed down and not have hissy fits. Coming from Japanese performance and custom installation in Australia, these cars need to be modified to be simplified. I believe motech do ecu programmable common rail stand alone ecu , this would be a good start. Open up the inlet manifold s to custom inspection/ cleaning abilities as these soot up, move and redesign turbos and manifolds the audi v12 tdi is a better design for location and accessibility, manual air suspension control in cabin . Loose the kessy system = flat battery draining in 2 days, this should be a warranty recall for being dodgy i have 3 vw vehicles all with the same problem .
But the biggest thing is the use of biodegradable plastics an rubber as mandated by the UN this is dangerous and costing you money as components fail or loose their insulation on wireing , if nothing else encourages rodents to eat your car. Bottom line is build something reliable and to last and it will be greener than these feel good legislation that ends up being scraped after giving you greif. Would I buy a euro trash car again new or / sh ? NO this is a prime reason people are paying big money for old cars because you can work on them and are reliable no hissy fit limp home dramas
I think you made the best choice fella, inwards and upwards with the next project 👏🏻
As you say, a 5 litre TDI engine is a bit large for the UK car market - but would go nicely in a boat I would think :)
Be awesome in a boat!
Would also work nice as a boat anchor! 😎😁
@@piratasdecordoba 🤣
Good plan! Know when to cut your losses!
Hi Dean. You made the right decision and for all the right reasons on this one. See you in the next one. 👍👍
Never knew you could get a battery charger like that for so cheap so I ordered one thanks Deanoh.
Hi Dean, it could well be a leaky injector seal, I had the same thing on my 3.0tdi v6, they have an escape port under the injector which releases combustion gasses when the copper injector seal goes bad. Might be worth checking before giving up? Cheers 👍🏼
Such a shame Dean but I think you've done the right thing - best of luck shiftin' 'er !
Dean, it makes sense for you to cut your losses and get out. I'm looking forward to see what you've got waiting in the wings...
DSC development in Sandbach is the bloke for any big VAG engine or TDI. He rescue any state V10s TDI, W8, V8, V10 RS or W12 vag engines.
The boot latch is a low voltage issue. The fuel flap on my 2008 Jetta was doing the same until I changed the battery.
Have you checked the engine control relay, dry soldered joints was an issue on earlier vw....giving cutout no comms symptoms?
Could the cutting out be bcoz of a limit switch on the boot either faulty or telling you it is unsafe to drive with the boot open? I had a friend with a Montego (yes it was a long long time ago) that suddenly refused to start, caught out many mechanics, it was a defective oil pressure sender unit that cost about a quid, the ECU thought there was no oil in the sump.
vac lines with bolts in..exactly as my Z3 when I got it..the DISA valve failed and someone isolated it by "shorting" the vac pipes so that the DISA flap didn't snap and fall into the intake
Good call sometimes you have to call it, lot of work for realistically no gain.👍
Check the ecus grounds, i have taken the engine out one time and forgot to tighten the grounds and was doing exactly the same thing
I have a 2006 model 3.0 V6 TDI and its been surprisingly cheap to run for the last 2 years, fingers crossed it stays that way!
Im planning on buying a 2007 or 2008 V6! and i would like a bit of help.. or tips.. because im still looking for more and more information about the V6 beore the purchase!
Great video mate
Hi from durham dean👋👍 sorry to see this one not completed but there is a fine line between the best for your wallet tho would of been great content as we all live it when dean does the engines out malarky lol if I would love to own a car like this too the are amazing bits of kit and solud too👌 thanks for your time be safe and see you soon👍👋
Saving Salvage? Was looking forward to the Touareg.
Sometimes you have to make the difficult decisions but the correct decisions
The bolts are there for a rudimentary but fully effective EGR OFF !
on the 2.5 and 5.0 the egr is only vacuumed and that is it
Aren't swirl flaps/throttle bodies on vacuum aswell?
An amazing top of the range SUV, with epic power, but as they age you need a mighty wallet. In today’s world totally unsustainable in terms of fuel cost alone! Interesting videos though Dean on this monster 👍😎
just filled today my Touareg v6 2007 with £60 drove 100 miles it's gone haha but i love it the power and comfort
@@Hgvpuncherwow. I'm getting about 600 miles out of a tank on my 3.6 fsi.
I think you should be using 2 AGM batteries. Good luck with the next one!
Contact darkside see if they would be interested in it! They seem to love them
Very good idea!
They still need a V8 TDI too
Sorry to hear about car just wondering what you do to sell her do you advertise it as breaking for spare parts
They stock the bolts in the vacuum pipe it keeps the EGR closed it's basically cheap way of blanking the EGR
Hit darkside developments up..they love a toureg to boot around green lanes. Worth a try.
sell it to @Darkside Developments in the UK. They have the time, skill, and manpower to pull the engine.
Hi mate what diagosic equipment did you use
As you spent so much effort on diagnostics and know the problem, it is in fact the matter of how you could make sure your time spent can be recovered. I think if you are confident that it can be saved, just a matter of 2 weeks of man hour, why not see if you can have a bid here. The market price is 3500 pound basically included a big risk. If you can fix it properly, I am quite sure some people is willing to pay way more than that, say 6000 or 7000. Plus the extra content you can have, I think you can break even or make a profit. If you just sell it, I believe this car would end up into bits and pieces which is quite sad.
darkside developments will have this off you I bet!👍🏽👌🏽
Wise decision. Great content
Good decision, Dean.👍
Yes, just get rid Dean, it looks a decent suv, but just not cost effective to repair, looking forward to the new project, the tension is building !!, Hope it's an Audi !!
egr blanked off, get yourself a smoke machine for boost leaks ;) and these have twin ecu's for each side of the engine.
That V10 could be a complete rabbit hole!!
Wise decision Dean 👍
This is one for namz boost. they love having engines out
Shame as that V10 can do so much! As other said, try Darkside as they might need it
The hissing will be bottom injector seals blowing out of the side of the head, 10 copper washers will fix it. Like the V6 tdis.
The v10 is a pd,injectors will be inside in the engine, not outside like the common rail v6
Best decision, as always 👍
Good move selling, just fixing it would take a lot of air time that you can apply on more interesting projects. Would rather see you save another Golf from scrap than fixing this one.
My misses has a v6 Altitude might take sim parts ??
Gutted...as I love Touaregs!
...but...
You run a business so makes sense.
Maybe get 3L Tdi V6 one......😁
Time v financial gain? Sounds like a good decision, Dean. Have you spoken with Ryan at Darkside Developments to see if he wants a parts car?
*Every dog has its day* 👏
Can’t even be much of a market for stripping and parts. How many are left? Therefore how many actually need parts? Could take years to sell in parts.
Darkside developments might be interested in it
Bolts in those vacuum lines are usually a "cheap EGR delete" 😏 more problems than good tbh
leaking injector seals? Combustion gases escaping from around the injector? that happens to a lot of diesel engines with age
Your off on the price mate. Try 6 to 9k. A very good example goes for 9 easy. They are rare now. I got my v6 last year I was after a good v10 but none available at that point.
By the way a manifold change for both was 3k when I last looked.
The V10 TDI is such a cool car. Very sad. I would like to know what's going on
Thats a shame, but completely understandable. As you say, it's worth good money in parts so may as well let it go and concentrate on other projects.
Was this all an add for the battery tester?
You definitely made the wright choice in selling it .
Don't worry Dean, you still have options. You can sell as is or do a vid on breaking it for patrs an selling them. I quite like the latter idea as I'd find it interesting, watch you strip it as you sell the bits.
Definitely ring Darkside Developments they should want it for such little cash! Could end up on their channel too..
Drivers side boost pipe is not in all the way and them clips are always breaking
Try darkside development the may be interested.
Send it to Nigeria. .you make good money 💲
These are renowned money pits.
Great tool
Good for export?
Vrs Northampton ye.ll get the part's best out for vw and audi part's
Your hoodie ...hood draw-strings dangling over-into the engine bay gave me the willy's, but probably little to catch on. I'LL STOP BLEETING, great vid cheers and sorry it's not worth the time and cost of being repaired but you have to be realistic.
Stage straight up 👌
Well done Dean no point working for nothing!
Put it in copart?
cracked flexpipe. super common.
Should of just done a smoke test
shame not to finish that mate, it could be a beautiful restoration. but u know better
Crank Sensor perhaps 🤷🏻🤷🏻
They do better than 30 mpg highway and will tow anything.
A exhaust leak before one of the turbochargers will lead to a under-boost situation, resulting in overstressing the other turbo, leading to a turbo shaft failure.
Get a good second hand engine off vrs Northampton
Weird intermittent faults... I'm reminded of DiagnoseDan, an interesting a watch here if you've not come across him.... but this one, nah, hope you at least come out of it 'All Square'
Seems like the car could be water damaged??
Easy fix....
Did you give up on the V10 RS6??
Nope, just had other bits in the way. I’m waiting for a dyno slot so we can see how much power it has!
@@SavingSalvage Message me when she comes on the market. Thanks
She’s on the market now really. 😅
its like a 2007 passat my family had, older vws are ether bullet proof or total lemons
Good decision. You can’t save them all.
I won‘t even use the term money pit. More like, national deficit incinerating abyss. Those V10‘s were notoriously unreliable and even from new, were far from well engineered. Good decision!
Put the V10 in your Golf
Its a supercar in an SUV- body, every few years all the little stuff needs adressing with a big engine- out job :) Its not nice to give up on a project car but then again its your wallet not ours...
Ah yes, the joys of these modern vehicles with zero room to work on something that should be relatively simple to repair. Shame but thems the breaks 🤥
Shame mate an unusual and cool car but no point throwing money at it for the sake of it
Bummer, I like that car.. driven a few and would never buy one :D
(Famous last words before a R50 is in my driveway)
Hi,
Evening
Did you realise the V10 has 2 batterys? one for starting and one for everything else....The second battery is located under spare wheel in boot,.
The v10s problems normally clear up with 2 new batterys.
Also, very doubtful that it is a cracked manifold....nearly 100% its a leaking injector, listing to the sound it makes
Yep, I learnt all that whilst troubleshooting thanks bud 😃
@@SavingSalvage you are right its a pain for a lot of work on these engines as they have to come out a lot of the time to do anything as there so tightly packaged.
I'd buy it if it was in the US lol
I woud bother with it dean not much gain and the price of diesel at the moment will put people of buying it spares or repaires is the way to go and get your money back mate
Be careful leaning over a running engine with tassles dangling.
There are zero belts on these guys
