What is the difference between the LG 32UN500 vs the 32LGUN880 Ergo?
in this video, we get into the details in a free-flow style review. Хобби
Explaining the naming conventions was AMAZING. Thank you for making sense of the system that seemed totally nonsensical.
worth watching the video for this alone
Finally someone to address the naming issue....bravo
I think this is the only place on the internet where you'll find this kind of information. Kudos!
Yeah agreed that was really useful
Thanks for all the explications !!!
I haven't seen any reviews explain the naming. That was very good. This actually helps me find a monitor faster. When you're going through hundreds of monitor to find the right one for you, understanding the naming scheme helps you quite a bit.
I think I decided to do this video exactly after I read about LG’s naming convention😂
@@honestview Does this 880 Ergo monitor support 2 different input sources at the same time by dividing the screen in half ? For example on the left PC on the right MAC.
THIS IS HOW YOU REVIEW PRODUCTS!
Thank you! You made my life far easier!
Such an underrated content.
Clear explanation and no BS.
EXCELLENT REVIEW.
Thank you for posting this. I've searched all over for such a clear presentation of the differences among the LG monitors and this is the best comparison I've seen.
Great video! Nice to finally have an understanding of the LG naming conventions. The section on monitor size and resolutions is also greatly appreciated, especially as someone looking for their first 4k monitor. Being on the budget end (and not overly concerned with colour accuracy), the 500 has been on my radar for some time and it feels like most of your complaints about it would generally apply to other monitors in that price/performance bracket.
You just cleared a lot of questions I had in the first 3 minutes of the video. Thanks
THANK YOU for the naming convention crash course! Subbed just for that, none of the other reviewers explained it. Will be extremely helpful in sorting through the different models. Awesome comparison!
I've been scouring YT for the last two weeks for monitor reviews (32" 4K or Ultrawide) and this review is the best one, by far. It answers all the issues that I care about - image quality, is it worth it for the money, and issues (with M1, etc...). Even the section under your video has valuable information: M1 USB-C issue has been fixed and a 32UN650 version (without ergo and USB-C) for $250 less (I love USB-C, but LG charges so much premium for models that have it). Amazing. Subscribed.
Great review. As as fellow reviewer, I can really appreciate the part number explanation and the concise and honest breakdown. Thanks!! Subscribed!
you have covered very important points that no other reviewer that I watched did. 👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you for the explanations for the model codes I was soo overwhelmed because of the varieties of monitors.
Easily the BEST review i've seen on the lg monitors. Thank you!
One of the best monitor reviews I've seen, without any clickbait crap, and a M1 Mac use case.
One of the best reviews I've seen. Great work!
Thanks 4 explaining the model names! Very helpful :)
Awesome review , I have ordered the 880 ergo and was looking for reviews. This is one of the best reviews I've seen. Just subscribed to watch your other videos.
Thanks for the great review video. Exactly what I was looking for :)
Subscribed for the detailed review but mostly for explaining the naming convention!!!
I enjoyed your style of reviewing , subscribed!
thanks, man! I appreciate it ^_^
You are so technical, great review thank you 🙏
To explain the naming convention, I have saved this video in my list. Thank you! Great Job.
Mate, thanks so much for explaining the naming convention, definitely helped me out to decide
El primer vídeo que veo que explique la nomenclatura de los monitores LG. Muchas gracias. Un like.
this was an amazing review i was so confussed with the monitors but this man give the real and accurate information. Man thanks!
Just for taking the time to explain the naming convention, I clicked on like & subscribed & added this video to my saved favorites. Will refer to it again.
Very honest and helpful review.
Exactly the review I was looking for. Thankyou. Naturally I’d prefer to pay less, but 880 seems to sit right in the Goldilocks zone for me (ie: Pro-enough!)
Nice one and really helpful. Subscribed. keep it up!
I’ve looked at a lot of products reviews on youtube and this honestly this has to be the best comparison on youtube. I was actually surprised to see so little subs on the channel. I’d love to see more product comparisons from your channel.
wouuuuuuu I was looking for this review ... you got a suscriber man ... saludos desde PERU
this is a really good review buddy. I got everything i need to know and nothing that i shouldnt.
the presentation the comparison and the little details you provided are really great haven't seen like it anywhere, very informative.
having said that i think you maybe need to prepare notes before recording, i mean it is obvious you are very knowledgeable but during this video you were bit all over the place with points. i will definitely subscribe because i think this channel will be one of the best soon.
Great Video, thank you. Very informative.
Excellent review thank you.
my kind of review, glad to find you! subscribed!
Ah thanks! I Appreciate the comment and the sub ^_^
😆 I like your review! Now I understand better what to consider when getting a new monitor. Thank you!
very informative and I only even learn from you that there's BenQ that has much better color.. . that is much higher price also but probably worth it. Thanks man! keep posting more
Great review! Thanks!
one of the best comparisons on UN880, especially level of screen quality. practical
awesome video !! learned a lot - many thanks
Handsome, great review 👍👍 Thank you.
you saved my money. Thank you
naming convention made everything so clear. awesome dude
Excellent Breakdown!
Thanks, very helpful. I hade those lines too, on another model, lg monitor.
I have the same 500 model. So far no flickering issue, only the viewing angle does change the color slightly. No issue for me to use for coding and gaming
GREAT REVIEW!!!!! THE BEST THANK YOU
Excellent video man
appreciate the breakdown for their naming which was super confusing lol
Interesting video, Thanks!
Great info... black and white, to the point. Going w the 880
Nice video, you just saved me some $$$!
Thanks, very usefull as for me
Thank's that described LG monitor naming system
Thanks for the model # breakdown.
Great vid!
Liked the video the moment u explained the beaming schemes.
Thank you so much.
more than good. thanks
Good review
grande recensione!
Great video with no frills! One question concerning the 32UN880 which color profile do you suggest to use for editing work? sRGB? Thanks 🙏 PS: the USB-C works well with my MBP 16" M1 😀
Nice video, I like the explanation of the names, I have one question related to the size and resolution, is it better to have a 27" 2k monitor or 27" 4k monitor, I am a graphic designer I want to get 27" size but I am not sure about the 2k and 4k. Thanks
Hi, I am a Professional Colourist and I have both of these Screens (in the 27" ich Versions) in my current setup ... and I am beyond impressed - of course the 500 (which is IPS too as far as I know - at least the 27" Version) isn't able to be used in a Studio, but it's a great choice if you want to colour-grade 4K timelines as a beginner Colourist (or as a Hobby) ... but the 880 is mind-blowing - honestly the Monitor has a great Panel and is also pre-calobrated, but you should definetly calibrated a Monitor every 1-2 month if you want to use it die Professional work, but after the calibration the 880 is not on the same Level as some other grading Monitors from Eizo for a few thousend Dollar more, but has an outstanding performence ... of course the contrast of a 5.000$ Grading Monitor is a bit better, but in all the other areas the 880 is nearly able to keep up with the "industry-standard" Monitors and even enables previews (for non professional work) in the DCI-P3 colourspace (for cinema usage) with a coverte of around 97%
(But the Monitor has a little Problem with twmperature changes ... the colours can change => calibration every 1-2 month)
I use these two as side Monitors around my main-momitor ...
Thanks for your review on a review video!
No really! Appreciate you sharing your experience and expertise as someone who has these, it is a great comment!
May I ask, have you noticed the issues that the 500 gave me, with the flickering and the lines? Or do you think mine was just a defective product?
@@honestview Hi, I apriciate it :) I am glad that you like the comment and it's a really well made Video - I really enjoyed watching
... but back to the 500-problem... I think that is a problem of the Monitor or maybe even the Graphics-driver, because it's also possible that the stuttering comes from a Signal Problem (is FreeSync on - Freesync constantly causes flickering) - but I don't know which one it is in your Situation - sorry :(
I never had that Problem and use that Monitor for data-organizing and "scopes" (Tool for colour grading) ...
i have un880, can you please tell me how to do calibration on it>?
@@MuhammadUmerToor You need their App and a Colourimeter like the "X rite 1-Pro" or other cheap colorimeters...
So is it a good idea to get it to start doing motion graphics and 4K editing? (Might try coloring as a beginner)
Audio engineer here getting into the video industry, kinda lost, in audio we have so many standardized measurements and frequency responses, yet I see in video the numbers they give out don’t matter because sometimes color is still bad even if it says 95% of the target color space 😭 or why does it sometimes say more than 100% like what???
Great video
Thanks for a very in depth review, I just bought the Macbook Pro M1 Pro (what a mouthful LoL) because I want to get into video editing and a bit of colour grading too with FCPX which is of course only available on Mac which is the main reason I bought it, it's taking a bit of time getting used to Mac OS as I've never owned a Mac before but I'm getting there. I own a fairly good Dell ultrasharp UP2716D which is a nice 27 inch 1440p ips monitor but not 4k and as I want to work with 4k footage from my Panasonic GH5 camera I thought I'll need to upgrade to a larger 4k one, this seems to hit the sweet spot in size any bigger and I'd have to move my head side to side to see all the screen like watching a tennis match, was the issue with the usb c port fixed ? and was it some kind of firmware update from Apple or LG and also did you discover if it was the cable that came with the monitor or just a Mac issue ? PS: I bought a Gold Star TV in West-Berlin in 1988 LoL Regards Jim
Update: I bought this screen and my Mac 14 inch 2021 M1 Pro is working perfectly with this USB C provided cable, I do love the ergonomic arm it's pretty cool, but much more importantly the none reflective IPS screen is very clear and mostly colour accurate which is what I needed and the 4k (although I set it to 1440p because my old eyes aren't that 2020 vision anymore LoL) is great so all in all for £600 while it's certainly not the cheapest 32" it's way more colour accurate than a lot of other monitors at a lower price, regards, Jim
Great video!!!!!!!!!!
I have the same monitor and works perfect with the USB-C cable for both my ipad pro 2020 and my mac mini m1
awesome, yes, I already made the update in the description.
Good to know it works with the iPad ;)
Great video. I was considering the UN500 as well as other 32" 4k monitors but they too VA panels. I wanted IPS but VA seemed to be more affordable. Your explanation of the angles with a VA panel certainly turned me against them. I do typical office work but also do graphic design and photo editing. The question now is would you settle with a 27" 4K (or 2K) or try to find an affordable 4k 32" with an IPS panel. Thanks
amazing review my man !!! I stumbled on this video after hours of searching for review for samsung 4k monitors in the same price range (viewfinity s8 and m7 both va panels) and after watching this im definately staying away from va panels and actually considering lg monitors (the 880 but 27 inch) and it would be a huge favour if you could nudge me in the right direction since i am in desperate need of a 4k 27/32 monitor that will last wihtout any issues (i need it strictly for coding but looking for a 4k so it can double as a big screen for media consumption but i do not do any graphical work)
i have the 32UN880 it's fantastic. Worth the cost
Great comparison. Very tempted to get the 880 screen. How far does the monitor arm extend forward from the back of the desk? I would want the screen to extend about 35cm forward from the clamp at the back of the desk. Also, how long does it take to clamp/unclamp? I often take my desk out on the patio outside of my home office when it's warmer so would need to detach and rearrange monitor now and again. Any update on the M1 USB-C issue?
That was fun. You are rather quirky, this is good :)
Is the 32UN880-W going good as a TV also? Wondering if it can be used for monitor and tv (with amazon fire stick or apple tv). I’ve been trying to use a Samsung m7 (VA) but the screen quality for tv in a 2-3 meters distance is not good
ha ha. Love this review :) thank you
what stand are you using?
great video btw
Where did you get the white back LG monitor with ergo stand. I am only seeing black backs. Thanks for an overall great video.
I have 32UN880 connected to mac mini m1 and it works perfectly with USB C. That was a really good comparison. Thank you
Thanks for the feedback, I’ve also recently tried the USB-C cable and it worked fine, I presume an update in to the OS had a fix ^_^
@@honestview the issue that I found is with the cable. Samsung M7 has the same issue. It needs to be usb-c thunderbolt cable. The normal usb-c cable doesn’t work (or works with some limitations).
@@trls007 can’t see why you would need a thunderbolt cable… it’s a USB 3.1gen1 connection… any cable above that is overkill… maybe your USB 3 cable was just damaged?
I don’t know why, but after trying all my three usb-c cables, it didn’t work (with my mac air and surface pro). After trying updates, saw a blog saying that it must be a thunderbolt one. Bought one from amazon and both of my laptops worked perfectly.
Maybe now (after the OS being updated) the normal usb-c works too. Haven’t tried yet.
Thanks for the video review ! It helps a lot!!
@@honestview i think it's not usb3.1 gen 1, it's a thunderbolt 3 or you can call it usb 4, not usb 3.1, cause the usb 4 and thunderbolt 3 specs are similar that's why it's interchangeable but for clarity usb's and thunderbolt were competing technologies, only from thunderbolt 3 onwards, they started using the usb type-c port/ connectors and therefore the confusion. It's also given on apple website clearly as usb 4 thunderbolt 3, not usb 3 gen. anyways there are no more usb 3.1 only usb 3.2. Now. Names furthur changed to create more confusion. Just look at the transfer speeds of all the thunderbolt gens comparing with all the usb gens, the is the answer.
I’m just about to take the plunge and get the 880-B. Love the look and the monitor arm is great. It’ll go perfectly with my new desk. Plus since this video first aired the price is down $200! Pretty much a no brainer for a non gamer like myself.
About to purchase this today- did you buy it?If so, how you like it?
Thank you for making this video about these LG Monitors. I bought the LG 32UN880-B 32" and had the same problem you mentioned about the LG 500. if wear glasses and the background is white, you can see the soft white line. It's very annoying when you move your head from left to right; has a slight flicker, and the screen makes it seem a noisy image as well. The BenQ PD3205UA arrived at my doorstep last night. Right out of the box with no image problem. I hope to make a comparison between these displays.
Dude, thanks so much for breaking the marketing language down.
Between this monitor and the 27 inch dell u2720qm, for video editing and color accuracy; which would you recommend? Thanks for the contents you put up.
Hi! great review, I had the same experience with the flickering when i watch youtube on full screen. I also notice that the around the edge of my screen there is a discoloration (gray or fading) color. Had to return the unit i believe it is a manufacturing defect + this model is not worth it. I'd rather go with 32UN650-W model or straight UN880-W which is highly recommended by a lot of content creators btw.
this is the first time i knew how naming convention of monitors work hahahahha this is how to review a product in a right way
Hi! Thanks so much for the review! The most useful review I can find on this un880! I happen to be choosing l between this un880 and the benq one that you mentioned! I’m doing architecture work which including photoshop and stuff, do you think I need to get the benq or the 880 should be enough for my purpose of use. Thanks!!
The Benq in my opinion is better, but for your use, the 880 is more than enough.
If you were using it for video color grading I'd go with the BenQ but doubt you would notice the difference for stuff like Photoshop. the 880 is plenty bright and colors when printed look very accurate in my opinion, so if you want to save a couple bucks go with the 880, if you can splurge for the simple fact of knowing you got something better, then you can get the BenQ.
That's just my humble opinion though
I love my 2017 iMac 27” retina monitor. How does the 880 compare to it ? Thanks for the review. It’s very helpful.
I have the LG32UN and the USB-C cable that came with it works perfectly with my Mac Mini M1
yeah, apple fixed the problem quite quickly.
Just subscribed
Good review. Definitely the 500 is worse. The 880, or rather a 600 with an ergo stand, is nothing fantastic, but you won't complain about anything either. One thing I will say is the stand is great! You down played it just a litte too much, haha. I have 3 different stands including this one and the other two just aren't as nice, easy to manipulate nor do they have the clean wire management of the 880's Ergo stand. I do think that it's about a $50 - $100 overpriced, so if you can get it on sale, it's well worth it.
Thanks for the amazing video. I subscribed :) Can't decide between the 32UN650 OR the 32UN880. Noticed your** Are you sure the panels are the same and the only differences are the usb-c and the stand? I read somewhere that the 880 provides better colors because of its factory calibration? Can someone confirm or deny? 100€ price gap between those two in Germany at the moment.
I did not have the issue with gray colors, but many of the other issues you described about the 32UN500-W were similar to my experience with it. I got a good deal on an open box unit from Amazon, and I thought it would be a nice upgrade from my 2011 Apple Thunderbolt Display. I was really wrong. The viewing angles made the screen just unusable for me, and when you finally back up enough to see everything correctly, the text and menus on the screen are far too small to be usable. I sent the monitor back the same day I got it. Glad to know it wasn't just me.
Even with the older Thunderbolt display, the quality of Apple screens really ruins all but the most expensive monitors for you. :)
Do you think the LG 32UL500-W is much better than the UN model you tested?
I upgraded to a Thunderbolt 3/usb-c so that I could charge, connect video, and utilize 60 MHz refresh rate to my MacBook Air M1. The cable supplied in the box with my LG 550 monitor only enabled a video connection and was limited to 30 MHz.
Thanks for the heads up :)
What about the 27BN88U-B; the first B throws me off? I bought it hoping to connect it to a Mac mini via USB-C. I’ll be using the mini’s hdmi port to connect to a curved ultrawide
I’m also nervous now because the I bought the 27BN88U-B to use the 4K for design, but now I’m convinced I need a 32”
Very nice video. Btw, the C in the model names stands for Curved (not usb-c). 😀
Thanks, I read otherwise, but your explanation makes more sense 👌👏
Just ordered the 880. My heart did drop a bit when you mentioned the USBC doesn’t work, but I have the non m1 16” MacBook, so it should be fine with the signal, doesn’t charge though.
Great review , cheers 🙏🏻👍🏻
does the usb-c work afterall?
Huh? I can charge my Macbook Pro 16 just fine with 32UN880.
LG 27UP850-W vs LG 32UP83A-W differences? 850 vs 83A ??? 83A has usb-c
What is LG qp880
Is the text/fonts on the LG 32UN650-W crisp and clear when using non-integer scaling? I've come across many online posts stating that fonts become blurry and fuzzy when scaled to 2k.
I have this flickering as well with the new M1 Pro MacBook with my Asus PB287Q
I just got the UN880B and i am struggling to find the info about HDCP 2.2 support. I didn't bought it to watch movies, but since is 4K and has some HDR, and i pay for Netflix Ultra, i gave it a try. But my Netflix not even show the 4K option, only HD, so i learned that the monitor needs to support HDCP 2.2 but i don't know if it supports. I am using the USB-C cable provided and plugging on the USB-C port on my 2080Ti.
