Thank you for making this video about these LG Monitors. I bought the LG 32UN880-B 32" and had the same problem you mentioned about the LG 500. if wear glasses and the background is white, you can see the soft white line. It's very annoying when you move your head from left to right; has a slight flicker, and the screen makes it seem a noisy image as well. The BenQ PD3205UA arrived at my doorstep last night. Right out of the box with no image problem. I hope to make a comparison between these displays.
very informative and I only even learn from you that there's BenQ that has much better color.. . that is much higher price also but probably worth it. Thanks man! keep posting more
I currently use a 4k 28in without scaling, it is a little bit on the smaller side, but I adjusted to it. 32UN650-W would be perfect when it comes. I ordered one.
Just ordered the 880. My heart did drop a bit when you mentioned the USBC doesn’t work, but I have the non m1 16” MacBook, so it should be fine with the signal, doesn’t charge though. Great review , cheers 🙏🏻👍🏻
I am changing my BenQ PD3200U for the LG 32UN880-B. Most of the latest BenQ monitors are affected by a lcd problem, there is a gradient from left to right showing a change of color temperature, strong color bleeding in the 4 corners when having black images, there are darker areas spread on the surface and the best is that there is nothing to do. I sent it back to warranty and they replaced the lcd screen, same problems, a bit different. I got my money back now. Also other BenQ displays show a bit of this temperature change, slightly but they do. I'll never buy BenQ again, nothing really accurate, nothing. At least for this period.
I upgraded to a Thunderbolt 3/usb-c so that I could charge, connect video, and utilize 60 MHz refresh rate to my MacBook Air M1. The cable supplied in the box with my LG 550 monitor only enabled a video connection and was limited to 30 MHz.
Thanks for the video, but I still don't know what the difference is between 32UN880P and 32UN880P-B. If the B at the end is Black back of the monitor, the P stands for what?
the presentation the comparison and the little details you provided are really great haven't seen like it anywhere, very informative. having said that i think you maybe need to prepare notes before recording, i mean it is obvious you are very knowledgeable but during this video you were bit all over the place with points. i will definitely subscribe because i think this channel will be one of the best soon.
Great video. I was considering the UN500 as well as other 32" 4k monitors but they too VA panels. I wanted IPS but VA seemed to be more affordable. Your explanation of the angles with a VA panel certainly turned me against them. I do typical office work but also do graphic design and photo editing. The question now is would you settle with a 27" 4K (or 2K) or try to find an affordable 4k 32" with an IPS panel. Thanks
yeah i get that flicker too and now it just stops in between, like no display and then turns on again, while i am in middle of work, plus in dual setup it doesn't give 60hz refresh rate, there is no option just 30, while using cable provided within setup
That sounds like your computer not the screen… you are describing a data loss issue. Are you using a cheap Chinese usb hub by any chance? You’d need a thunderbolt hub or run a cable directly from your laptop to the screen to get 60hz
I did not have the issue with gray colors, but many of the other issues you described about the 32UN500-W were similar to my experience with it. I got a good deal on an open box unit from Amazon, and I thought it would be a nice upgrade from my 2011 Apple Thunderbolt Display. I was really wrong. The viewing angles made the screen just unusable for me, and when you finally back up enough to see everything correctly, the text and menus on the screen are far too small to be usable. I sent the monitor back the same day I got it. Glad to know it wasn't just me.
I just got the UN880B and i am struggling to find the info about HDCP 2.2 support. I didn't bought it to watch movies, but since is 4K and has some HDR, and i pay for Netflix Ultra, i gave it a try. But my Netflix not even show the 4K option, only HD, so i learned that the monitor needs to support HDCP 2.2 but i don't know if it supports. I am using the USB-C cable provided and plugging on the USB-C port on my 2080Ti.
I laughted at the viewing angle part because that was my exact thought when first seeing the UN500, i sended it back IMMEDIATLY just for that reason alone.. and now i'm waiting an 880
Hello friend, the line error is of all these models, the same thing happens to me, and the usb-c input is not thunderbold, it is just a usb c 3.1 input
Hi! great review, I had the same experience with the flickering when i watch youtube on full screen. I also notice that the around the edge of my screen there is a discoloration (gray or fading) color. Had to return the unit i believe it is a manufacturing defect + this model is not worth it. I'd rather go with 32UN650-W model or straight UN880-W which is highly recommended by a lot of content creators btw.
Thanks for a very in depth review, I just bought the Macbook Pro M1 Pro (what a mouthful LoL) because I want to get into video editing and a bit of colour grading too with FCPX which is of course only available on Mac which is the main reason I bought it, it's taking a bit of time getting used to Mac OS as I've never owned a Mac before but I'm getting there. I own a fairly good Dell ultrasharp UP2716D which is a nice 27 inch 1440p ips monitor but not 4k and as I want to work with 4k footage from my Panasonic GH5 camera I thought I'll need to upgrade to a larger 4k one, this seems to hit the sweet spot in size any bigger and I'd have to move my head side to side to see all the screen like watching a tennis match, was the issue with the usb c port fixed ? and was it some kind of firmware update from Apple or LG and also did you discover if it was the cable that came with the monitor or just a Mac issue ? PS: I bought a Gold Star TV in West-Berlin in 1988 LoL Regards Jim Update: I bought this screen and my Mac 14 inch 2021 M1 Pro is working perfectly with this USB C provided cable, I do love the ergonomic arm it's pretty cool, but much more importantly the none reflective IPS screen is very clear and mostly colour accurate which is what I needed and the 4k (although I set it to 1440p because my old eyes aren't that 2020 vision anymore LoL) is great so all in all for £600 while it's certainly not the cheapest 32" it's way more colour accurate than a lot of other monitors at a lower price, regards, Jim
so can I plug my MacBook Air m1 with usb-c cable and on the other side plug my gaming pc on DisplayPort and just switch between inputs via monitor menu without problems ? thanks
What about the 27BN88U-B; the first B throws me off? I bought it hoping to connect it to a Mac mini via USB-C. I’ll be using the mini’s hdmi port to connect to a curved ultrawide I’m also nervous now because the I bought the 27BN88U-B to use the 4K for design, but now I’m convinced I need a 32”
same issue with my Mac Mini m1 and my Dell s3221qs. Flickering with dimmed screens, etc. Still looking for a solution. Monitor worked well with my intel mac book pro
It works with the M1 chip now, so I can only presume it will work the the Max and Pro chips too. Once it’s been added to apple’s ARM architecture, it should work across all ARM / M1 chips
Great video with no frills! One question concerning the 32UN880 which color profile do you suggest to use for editing work? sRGB? Thanks 🙏 PS: the USB-C works well with my MBP 16" M1 😀
I just bought 27” at thrift store for $8 😂 It was $50 60% plus I had a coupon $15 off brand new in box 4K IPS HDR with sound Wow 🎉🎉can believe it was still there at 4 pm
amazing review my man !!! I stumbled on this video after hours of searching for review for samsung 4k monitors in the same price range (viewfinity s8 and m7 both va panels) and after watching this im definately staying away from va panels and actually considering lg monitors (the 880 but 27 inch) and it would be a huge favour if you could nudge me in the right direction since i am in desperate need of a 4k 27/32 monitor that will last wihtout any issues (i need it strictly for coding but looking for a 4k so it can double as a big screen for media consumption but i do not do any graphical work)
Absolutely 100% NOT True and FALSE! ;) You only need Simple USB3.1 gen1 (5Gbps) (aka SuperSpeed) to pass a 4K display signal. You can use a 3.1 gen2 (10Gbps) or a thunderbolt (40Gbps) but it’s absolutely not necessary. You do need to have a Power Deliver of at least 60W, and the cable in the box is exactly that ;)
I’m just about to take the plunge and get the 880-B. Love the look and the monitor arm is great. It’ll go perfectly with my new desk. Plus since this video first aired the price is down $200! Pretty much a no brainer for a non gamer like myself.
I have bought the Mac mini Pro M2. I intended buying the 880Ergo as my monitor. After watching your review I'm nervous that the screen & mac mini will not be compatible. Was it the cable that was the problem or will any USB-C cable not work? Would connecting them with a HDMI cable work? A worried Ed!!
Between this monitor and the 27 inch dell u2720qm, for video editing and color accuracy; which would you recommend? Thanks for the contents you put up.
Thanks for the amazing video. I subscribed :) Can't decide between the 32UN650 OR the 32UN880. Noticed your** Are you sure the panels are the same and the only differences are the usb-c and the stand? I read somewhere that the 880 provides better colors because of its factory calibration? Can someone confirm or deny? 100€ price gap between those two in Germany at the moment.

I sent the monitor back the same day I got it. Glad to know it wasn't just me.
Even with the older Thunderbolt display, the quality of Apple screens really ruins all but the most expensive monitors for you. :)
I have the 500 and have not had any of the issues you had.
I believe there was only one issue… the rest are features or lack thereof ;)
I am also using an M1 MacBook Pro, and I did have the flickering issues and the grey lines. I’m returning it and getting the 880 instead
Dude, thanks so much for breaking the marketing language down.
Great review!!!! The 650 eliminates all USB's, not just the C. I guess they don't make the 880-White anymore, can't find it anywhere.
Nice one and really helpful. Subscribed. keep it up!
Liked the video the moment u explained the beaming schemes.
Excellent Breakdown!
Excellent review thank you.
Great vid!
Thanks for your video, what do you think about LG32UN650 for 430$?
I'm looking for same? did you go for it? I'm hearing it is having same panel as 32UN880.
I'd rather go with 32UN650-W model or straight UN880-W which is highly recommended by a lot of content creators btw.
must be some problem with your cable. just got mine, cable works perfectly with my M1 MacBook Pro
yeah, I updated the description, it worked after an OS update ;)
Handsome, great review 👍👍 Thank you.
PS: I bought a Gold Star TV in West-Berlin in 1988 LoL Regards Jim
Update: I bought this screen and my Mac 14 inch 2021 M1 Pro is working perfectly with this USB C provided cable, I do love the ergonomic arm it's pretty cool, but much more importantly the none reflective IPS screen is very clear and mostly colour accurate which is what I needed and the 4k (although I set it to 1440p because my old eyes aren't that 2020 vision anymore LoL) is great so all in all for £600 while it's certainly not the cheapest 32" it's way more colour accurate than a lot of other monitors at a lower price, regards, Jim
Great Video, thank you. Very informative.
Un550 is a VA panel while 880 is IPS meaning either you go contrast or better color
The contrast on the 500/550 is terrible! And I know the spec sheet says:
VA = 3000:1
IPS = 1000:1
But when I was using it, it felt washed out 🤷♂
so can I plug my MacBook Air m1 with usb-c cable and on the other side plug my gaming pc on DisplayPort and just switch between inputs via monitor menu without problems ? thanks
Yes exactly
Click in the menu button on the screen, then click left. This will change your input
@@honestview thank you very much
I just ordered the 880, what usb-c cable would you recommend for hooking my m2 MacBook Pro 14inch to it? Great video man!
I hadn’t finished the video yet ha ha, did you ever figure out how to use one cable for everything? Just a new usb-c cable maybe?
@@rynoman85 it works now actually, i guess apple just needed to release an update. any USB-c 3.1 or higher will work
What about the 27BN88U-B; the first B throws me off? I bought it hoping to connect it to a Mac mini via USB-C. I’ll be using the mini’s hdmi port to connect to a curved ultrawide
I’m also nervous now because the I bought the 27BN88U-B to use the 4K for design, but now I’m convinced I need a 32”
same issue with my Mac Mini m1 and my Dell s3221qs. Flickering with dimmed screens, etc. Still looking for a solution.
Monitor worked well with my intel mac book pro
Hey man, have we found out if the 880 works with the new MacBook Pro 16”?
It works with the M1 chip now, so I can only presume it will work the the Max and Pro chips too. Once it’s been added to apple’s ARM architecture, it should work across all ARM / M1 chips
Great review. Any update or info on this monitor working with the M2 MacBook Air?
works great with the M1 now, so the M2 will work just as well
What can you say about the LG 32 UN650? Thanks for the effort on sharing this video!👍
Great video with no frills! One question concerning the 32UN880 which color profile do you suggest to use for editing work? sRGB? Thanks 🙏 PS: the USB-C works well with my MBP 16" M1 😀
Great review! Thanks!
I just bought 27” at thrift store for $8 😂
It was $50 60% plus I had a coupon $15 off brand new in box 4K IPS HDR with sound
Wow 🎉🎉can believe it was still there at 4 pm
amazing review my man !!! I stumbled on this video after hours of searching for review for samsung 4k monitors in the same price range (viewfinity s8 and m7 both va panels) and after watching this im definately staying away from va panels and actually considering lg monitors (the 880 but 27 inch) and it would be a huge favour if you could nudge me in the right direction since i am in desperate need of a 4k 27/32 monitor that will last wihtout any issues (i need it strictly for coding but looking for a 4k so it can double as a big screen for media consumption but i do not do any graphical work)
need the apple usbc thunderbolt cable to use for data and power for a monitor
Absolutely 100% NOT True and FALSE! ;)
You only need Simple USB3.1 gen1 (5Gbps) (aka SuperSpeed) to pass a 4K display signal.
About to purchase this today- did you buy it?If so, how you like it?
Very nice video. Btw, the C in the model names stands for Curved (not usb-c). 😀
Thanks, I read otherwise, but your explanation makes more sense 👌👏
I have bought the Mac mini Pro M2. I intended buying the 880Ergo as my monitor. After watching your review I'm nervous that the screen & mac mini will not be compatible. Was it the cable that was the problem or will any USB-C cable not work? Would connecting them with a HDMI cable work? A worried Ed!!
It’s all patched up now, my screen and mac work perfectly together ;)
Between this monitor and the 27 inch dell u2720qm, for video editing and color accuracy; which would you recommend? Thanks for the contents you put up.
Thanks for the amazing video. I subscribed :) Can't decide between the 32UN650 OR the 32UN880. Noticed your** Are you sure the panels are the same and the only differences are the usb-c and the stand? I read somewhere that the 880 provides better colors because of its factory calibration? Can someone confirm or deny? 100€ price gap between those two in Germany at the moment.
