    2000x2500 at 72 dpi and Save for Web is the exact technique I do for sharing to socials. Save for Web is for us old school designers (I'm 41). 😆

    No matter what size you go above 1080px in width, the Instagram compresses the files and uploads them at max width of 1080px. Now image, you put 5000px 1:1 ratio, you can logically understand how much it will compress the image. I just saw your video and wanted to share this information with everyone, that 1080px width is the best/max px you can go when designing for Instagram specifically. Now, it really does matter the PPI when designing the posts.

      What Im saying here its from years of experience uploading and getting results on Instagram, one quick search states the resolutions u mention we all know that, but still when you post, the images dont look right. but with the method Im teaching here, they do look better, im not saying I know exactly what happens hahaha but from my experimentation, this resolution compresses the better and end up looking better.

      you just copy paste what is popular fir old days , things have been changed my man and no one knows how the algorithm work but what i know is that 1080px is too low for modern devices and me myself can upload like 1900px or so , i can tell this by redownloading the posted image . also i think the device used to upload the image can make a diff

    Haven't done research on this topic in a long time, this video is refreshing. I remember there were some weird techniques to prevent major file compression on Twitter. I plan on uploading my art in a more serious manner. Thanks for the help

    does this work for prints as well? or how do I design a poster that has both instagram and print settings? what size in px or in equals a standard print that translates to the instagram size (portrait)

    • @design.syndrome
      @design.syndrome  10 месяцев назад +1

      thats not possible my g, but like I said at the beginning of the video, first work big, 300 dpi, around 4000x5000 that would work for print, then make a smaller size document to create the social media exports.

  • @Zerlye

    Is there a reason to keep the jpg quality at 60% at the web export? I always just crank it up at 100, thinking I'd get the best results.

    • @design.syndrome
      @design.syndrome  11 месяцев назад +3

      im not sure exactly what it does, but ive found that 60% looks better afeter compressign than the 100% bc I assume that the later has more to compress, and thats why I looks worst after posting.

    • @design.syndrome
      @design.syndrome  11 месяцев назад +1

      for square I would make it 2000 x 2000 72 dpi usign this same method, but may be try putting the square image of the cover in like a 4:5 canvas, and get a bit of black empty space around it, so it covers more of the screen. get what I mean?

  • @cic_a_trix
    @cic_a_trix 11 месяцев назад +1

    Why are you exporting as JPEG for digital use and not PNG, does it change the quality?

    • @design.syndrome
      @design.syndrome  11 месяцев назад +2

      technically yes png would should look better, if I was making a portfolio website ID go for that, but for the social media purpose, ive found that png gets compressed out of exsistance, jpg has woked better for me as I show in the video!

    • @cic_a_trix
      @cic_a_trix 11 месяцев назад

      @@design.syndrome very interesting, I will give this a go. I have noticed that Facebook compresses PNGs the most. They only way that my PNGs looks fine (and this is on Insta) is if I save them down to a width of 1080px. Now, the only thing that I am concerned about is the colour translation of a JPG on digital.

      BC from my testing the 100 percent one doesnt look that much better to the 60% one, but it does get more compressed when posting!

      I actually do 2180 x 2180 at 144dpi. Basically double the size of an ig post. I also export a png to avoid double compression. Ig is doing some compression already.

      its because first we layout the resolution for the main piece the one thats the original lets say, then we export in a lesser resolution so the social media apps has less work to do compressing them
