Love how Grace Kelly went on stage to present the award with her tiny handbag hanging from her tiny arm).
This was back when awards shows really were an event to look forward to . Stars dressed to the nines , classy behavior . Nobody acting like assholes for attention
Will Smith: "Hold my beer." ;-)
I wish I could go back in time
I’d go with you and STAY there.
Me too !!
same
If you could go back in time to the 50's and 60's you would NOT like it.
It seems Bob hope monopolized the part. Thank you speeches were short back then. Actors didn’t have to bore us with their views on politics or anything else. They were so charming!
Watch one of these and then you can't stop.
What a great list of films for '54, their music, actors, and other great attributes.
Certainly one of the best post-war film years.
Bob Hope is as slick as always. Such a great comedian and the best emcee.
you gotta love bob hope with grace kelly both super-stars !!!!!!!
*superstars
Grace Kelly: top five most beautiful
I wish times didn't have to change so much and so fast. Movie stars were so talented and glamorous. Now.?not so much :(
It a shame that grace kelly had a short career, she would have had an amazing career with more films😢😢😢
Talented Grace💖
@@January. really, you care about that 😑
@@January. why should i care when everyone could understand what i meant
@@January. Why are you replying to everyone's comments with grammar corrections and nasty insults? This is the RUclips comment section, not a literary contest in the English department. 🙄 You are 110% wasting your time and being mean to people for no reason. @@shimmeringchimps3842 Thanks for sharing. Your pithy comment means everything to me.
i was born that year in sept 28 1955 i remember it was the year , (correct me if im wrong) that Anna Magnani won an oscar for best foreign film the" rose tattoo" i still remember the 1955 chevy bel-air of our neighbor in El Paso tx those were the good old days when people had a lot of class & neighbors care about each other by the way , i was only a toddler in 1958 but always had a vood memory & still do today in 2019 64 yrs later i wish time machines were real so i could go back & put my hands around my mother's neck , she is still around Thank God she's 91...
Grace Kelly is stunning...she makes my poor country boy heart go pitter pat.
Elle était si. Jolie
bob hope is the best
A "no host" Oscar may very well be the norm as is appropriate since we have a "no class" Oscars now. 😥
I don't understand how A Star is Born did not get even nominated for best cinematography. It is probably the first really "artistic" color/Cinemascope movie, exponentially more beautiful than Seven Brides!
*did not even get....
I MISS THE OLD HOLLYWOOD ⭐️💫
Teri Ruiz ah yes, the all white Hollywood.
@@ericsilva-gomez2481 I get what your saying but Dorthy Dandridge was nominated at that oscars and opened the door for many after her
Thelma Ritter is one of my favorite actresses
She's the best thing about Rear Window, and Rear Window is a fabulous movie.
Wasn't she lovely. Wouldn't it be fun to go back in time? Every era has its challenges but 1954 seemed like a great time to be alive, way before my time. People behaved and dressed well in public. Women behaved with grace, men with chivalry.
Most of all, people seemed contented, the country was united, the future was bright.
*Wouldn't it be fun....
Absolute Class all the way!... Big contract to this year's Oscars where everyone was treated to "Doogie Houser" in his undies.

Since I got this phone I get to see awards shows that I haven't seen before I was born it's a treat to see some of my favorite stars from yesteryear
What a magical time; I wish I could of been 21 years in 1939 and lived through the 40's and 50's;
really---lived through the 40's and 50's ? heard about the 6 year war, followed by another war, then another etc etc
@@MrDaiseymay Every decade has its wars, recessions, depressions, financial crashes. At least 50s/60s didn't have a world in lockdown..coronavirus...but they did have an excess of talent.
In the 1950s, the polio virus terrified American families. Parents tried “social distancing”-ineffectively and out of fear. Polio was not part the life they had signed up for. In the otherwise comfortable World War II era, the spread of polio showed that middle-class families could not build worlds entirely in their control.

That Hitchcock didn't win directing award for Rear Window is a travesty. The film wasn't even up for best film either but the sappy Three Coins in the Fountain was.
I see your point exactly. However, I also loved Three Coins In A Fountain. But I am a true Hitchcock fan! I watch his old TV shows alot...still!
There was the great Jeff Chandler in the audience
....note that an overture is used to set the mood, just like they do in Broadway musicals.
Rear Window was snubbed for Best Picture.
Such a shame nobody goes to movies much anymore.
Perhaps if they made better ones,...
Stuart Lee wtf are you talking about?
Sadly they don't have this array of talent anymore.
Class, good dressings, no political discussion and jabs. This is what the Oscars should strive to be like.
And yet in a video that doesn't have anything to do with politics you can't help but bring up politics. Give it a rest.
i love grace sm
The Princess would look much better without the purse in arm, as lovely as she is!
What a genius. His comic timing is nonpariel.

Bob HOPE’s Jokes are still funny!!
Damals war noch Frack angesagt - waren das Zeiten :-) und Grace Kelley ....
거의 70년전이군요. 그때나 지금이나 오스카상은 최고중의 최고 였군요.

Thelma Ritter--"Night Court" in the 1970s!

Была одна актриса, которая за своим почетным Оскаром в тот год даже не пришла, так же, как и не ходила на какие либо другие мероприятия.
Это великая Грета Гарбо!
Bob Hope is pretty funny lmao
Good times! Now they’re absolutely terrible!

Grace Kelly is my great granddaughter
Yeah and Mickey Rooney is my great grandson
how old are you ? 200?
Note the name of that theater where the Oscars ceremonies were once held. The Pantages family had a very scandalous history. The old man was a Greek immigrant who made good in America eventually owning a theater chain. He stood trial for rape, and separately his wife was tried for vehicular homicide DWI when she swerved into a vehicle occupied by Japanese Americans. Then there was second son Lloyd Pantages. Just use your search engine to see him. I'll just say, he was clean shaven but there were beards everywhere when he was in public.
1955, when the Oscars presented the prototype of the COVID-era ZOOM awards shows.
7:32 🤣 you would get cancelled if you made that joke today.
If I'm not wrong I think this was the 1st or 2nd televised Oscars
Oscars could u please tell me the name of the woman receiving the Oscar for Thursday's children announced by the enchantingly beautiful Grace Kelly???
Rumer Godden, I think.
GRACE DIED DO YOUNG.
SHE WAS ONLY 52.

Bob seems very out of place in that era, far ahead of his time. I don't think they were ready for that kind of wit. Bob is doing what Dave, Jay and other talkshow hosts were and are doing today.
@@January. 2yrs and only u caught that? Lol
absolutely true judy garland deserved that b oscar ..money talks
This is when Actors Had Class…….. sadly no more!!
Back then all men looked like retired military officers, and all women looked like glamerous royal family guests. It must be very difficult and expensive to maintain a wife like that.

Dorothy Dandridge❤

James Dean💙

If all those Americans could see America now 😒
Judy Garland was robbed nothing. Grace Kelly deserved winning.
Grace Kelly was GREAT in the Country Girl!
THANK YOU!!!!
Judy was also wonderful in a star is born
@@Imissingu2001 much better!
But judy garland in A Star Is Born was everything, Comedy, Drama, Tragedy, Sing and dance.she did all of that in one movie.. and you say judy didn't deserve the oscar????? Grace Kelly is my favourite actress, but that Oscar belonged to Judy, Grace Kelly would have won a supporting actress for Rear Window or High Noon or Dial M For Murder, and if there wasn't judy performance that year I would say yes grace deserve it, but not when you have Judy's Greatest Performance
Was Grace Kelly, engaged to Rainier, then ?
I still say Judy garland was robbed of the best actress Oscar for a star is born I'm sure Grace Kelly won it because she was retiring to marry her Prince like a goodbye gift at Judy's expense
2:43 What is the name of this aristocrat woman ?
...looks like Merle oberon
14:28
Was that a laugh track ?
Grace Kelly was so beautiful but the Oscar should have gone to Judy Garland.
Hey why aren't they preaching to us? What's wrong?!?
Think about today's Oscars, particularly 2019, & what you see is an absence of social grace & respect. Combine this with politics, political agenda, & just lack of class, with Hope absent, & what one has is a nadir in Hollywood. Yes...an Oscar which anyone from 1955-1970 wouldn't even recognize. Protesting by standing in the aisle during the ceremony--this is where Hollywood is as this institution tolerated such behavior. No class now that Hope & Carson are gone.
The last high-class Academy Awards ceremony was hosted by Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin. It's been downhill since then. They don't have the good taste or sense to ask Steve Martin to return.
Today's Orwellian goes to the most political agenda and activism driven movies.
No politics by Marxist actors/actresses
I was born in the wrong era
The 50's was a crappy time too.
Hard to watch … not good bideo
Judy Garland was robbed...she should have won
sorry,Hope,not my kind.
The Oscars have some of the worst writing of any ceremony - and film, for that matter. The six minutes of back-to-back, non-stop quips by Bob Hope - most barely worth even the slightest of smiles - was tiresome and boring. It reminds me of when Billy Crystal hosted one year - same thing. Make a few quips and get on with the show. I’d be willing to bet the audience feels the same way. Enough, already!
*nonstop
Bob Hope's humor as emcee is, well, old, and was not even funny then.
daniel stanwyck I like how you say that but everyone in the audience was laughing
