What a joy!!! Tiomkin was a brilliant composer and so funny here. It's wonderful to see Hope and Crosby together. They have such a natural affection for each other and also from the audience. I really miss this era in entertainment.
The Hollywood of yesterday is a completely different Hollywood than today. Those were the golden days of Hollywood, when there was real talent and class. The writers were infinitely better as well. At least we have videos to take us back to the good old days.
Bing Crosby the best looking guy in Hollywood and the most talented. This is why Bing and Bob's friendship and working relationship lasted so long and worked so well. They didn't have to live in each others pockets out of work to keep their friendship alive. They supported one another, enjoyed one another's company and kept everything fresh when they worked together. Two very smart men whose affection for each other stood the test of time. Genius!
Thanks to technology Bing Crosby and Bob Hope will always be a part of our lives Generation after generation even after we're gone both for the memories that you've left for myself my daughter in the future
Irving Berlin was nominated for the song he composed, "Count Your Blessings." Crosby did not compose the song, so would never have been nominated for it just because he sang it in the movie. Crosby's nomination had to do with his acting role in "The Country Girl."
From Wikipedia: "It was nominated for an Academy Award as "Best Song" but was defeated by "Three Coins in the Fountain" from the film of the same name written by Jule Styne and lyricist Sammy Cahn.[4] It was performed on the 1955 Academy Awards telecast by vocalist Peggy King.[5]"

They are genuinely having fun which is what entertainment is all about. They are not mean or angry or critical -- except in jest. NONE of that can be said about today's Academy Awards shows -- and shocking, some clueless people call that progress.
At 0:58 you can see Marlon Brando on the left shouting something through his hands. And you can also see Humphrey Bogart on the bottom right of the screen.
...Jim Clinton was a designer of casual and golf clothing that Bing wore exclusively from the mid 1940's to the mid 1960's; a tuxedo on Bing is the absolute antithesis of casual, hence the joke.

This is when the Oscars had class. Love it!
Did you notice the lack of diversity or stereotypes? The two can never exist in harmony - unfortunately.
Being 15 and actually knowing who these two are and what a great duo they made, is an amazing feeling.
heck im 14 NOW anyway
Currently 14 and loving them!❤
How's it feel at 22?
Hate to admit it, but when I was 15 and heard of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers," I thought it was porn.
This is heaven. Great chemistry & humor w/short & sweet acceptances. 💎
Bing and Bob! How lonely it is without them!!
Hiked around the world and made a lot of "road" films with Dorothy Lamour.
honestly
Amazing duo! And a wonderful speech of Dimitri Tiomkin!
this is so much smoother and enjoyable than the contemporary awards
What a joy!!! Tiomkin was a brilliant composer and so funny here. It's wonderful to see Hope and Crosby together. They have such a natural affection for each other and also from the audience. I really miss this era in entertainment.
Now we learn the record-breaking shortest speech was in fact from 1955.
You can see Bing's appreciation of the talent of those who won the awards.
The Hollywood of yesterday is a completely different Hollywood than today. Those were the golden days of Hollywood, when there was real talent and class. The writers were infinitely better as well. At least we have videos to take us back to the good old days.
When stars were stars, when entertainers were entertainers and when reality was real.

Best looking guy? Lol. Lemme think ... Brando, Cliff, Peck ... you’re right - with those ears and acting talent he was far and away the best.
I also love their onstage chemistry, no matter what the stage may be for :)
yep
Thanks to technology Bing Crosby and Bob Hope will always be a part of our lives Generation after generation even after we're gone both for the memories that you've left for myself my daughter in the future
RIP Hope and RIP CrosbY!;(
The great great BING CROSBY and BOB HOPE, wonderful!!!
I love it when they didn't take themselves so seriously and had fun.
Tiomkin's speech is one of the best ever. I think this was Bing's only appearance as a presenter.
Hope and Crosby are legends and I love Sal Chaplins name!
For those wondering: Bing Crosby was nominated for Irving Berlin's "Count your Blessings" from film White Christmas.
No, Bing was nominated for Best Actor for THE COUNTRY GIRL, hence Bob"s line about not being an alcoholic

When Hollywood was fun and entertaining.
They had Dimitri Tiomkin wwaaayy in the back.
1955 the year when music changed forever, and rock and roll was born
They are genuinely having fun which is what entertainment is all about. They are not mean or angry or critical -- except in jest. NONE of that can be said about today's Academy Awards shows -- and shocking, some clueless people call that progress.
@2:20 "Dang, he hangs around with some powerful friends."
No Political Statements & No Self Indulgent Speeches, When Stars Were Stars
🙄
Very good, Bob!!
This is a famous Oscar moment of Dimitri Tiomkin thanking Brahms, Strauss etc. for his win.
At 0:58 you can see Marlon Brando on the left shouting something through his hands. And you can also see Humphrey Bogart on the bottom right of the screen.
looks like a very young Clint Eastwood bottom left 0:53
Brando beat out Bing for Best Actor that year.

They don't make comedians like they use too...!!
Old "leather tonsils" himself... 😹

Who was "Jim Clinton"? Huge laugh.
I don't really think Bob or Bing were good looking but they had that look at me factor, charisma if you will.
Sorry I have to disagree....Bing was gorgeous.
Everyone in that video is gone, think about that
2024-1955= 69 years ago. Of course, everyone is dead.
2:43
There's a big laugh about Jim Clinton at 5:25, I'm ignorant, who was he? It must have been a great line to all present. Anyone aa good historian??
I think Jim Clinton was a clothing manufacturer active in the 50s. There are vintage ads for them on Etsy.
Hilarious 😂
The patter between Hope and Crosby was scripted - you can see them peeking at the cue cards. But it was very well scripted.
Shirley McClain
Shirley McLaine's brother is Warren Beatty
Bob shouldn't say those things about Bing, even if they are true.
The same year Tiomkin won, Bernard Herrmann was not even nominated for the scores of Garden of Evil, Prince of Players, and The Egyptian.
Haggis j,
I think Herrmann had quit the Academy by then.
Bob Hope and Steven Cplbert are kind of similar.
I'm sorry I loved the road moviess and hope and crosby But I have to say look at all those white people. Lol
USA was more than 90% Caucasian in 1955, believe it or not
