    • @m4nt1c0r3s
      @m4nt1c0r3s 2 года назад +1

      Yeah but they wont, because republicans dont have the balls to do it, and a lot of them get contributions from big tech or are afraid of being smeared by the democrat media, and the democrats, well big tech is doing their bidding so they only threaten regulation to keep them on the leash. That video was from 3 years ago, and after all that has come up about social media censorship and data collection, has anything really done about them? I doubt it, even if republicans take congress again they will have these hearings for years, threatening this and that but not actually doing anything.

    Actually it is quite interesting what's happening here, probably historical. Common people are finally becoming aware of what digital technologies lead to. They are becoming aware that every single word we write or say in Internet is stored, including what I am writing right now of course. They are becoming aware that such a huge amount of data is stored mostly in private companies computers. Common people (and that includes senator John Kennedy) evidently lack knowledge and deep understanding of how digital technologies work. But this is changing right now: such an understanding is finally starting coming to life. Slowly, but it is. However, people are... well, people. Rather than admitting their own ignorance and superficiality when sharing to the world private information, it is much easier and convenient to accuse Mark Zuckerberg for the intrinsic problems that digital technologies imply. The Cambridge Analytica scandal is the perfect excuse for something much bigger: people are understanding that the digital technologies are killing privacy.

      G. Menjivar Did they (Facebook and the likes) made you give them your info? No, they didn't you/the user freely gave it to them. Did they screw up big time and should be hold accountable? Of for sure. However the user must understand their failure as well. If the people/users don't want their private data/stuff tobe flying around then stop posting how you feel today, where you and your buds are gonna go, what cities in the world you really love etc. etc. We/you are all grown up and made your decisions in sharing your info, very few are the ones that can say are innocent of blame. So accept your screwing and don't go playing victim. In the mean time read what permissions you give the apps you want to use have, nothing of this world is for free, sooner or later ALL will realize that. For now Zuckerberg and several other companies must be brought up, explain what they are doing and be held accountable and be transparent in the future. Cheers mate!

      Private, your quote was a good example of how you misread Zuckerberg's statements. He also agreed that the privacy agreement should be easier to understand, though the tools that operate to protect privacy are in place already and should be as transparent as possible. What you don't realize is that evidence has been brought forth that Facebook keeps copies of everything you deleted, including personal photos, private messages, postings, etc. You think you've deleted it, but they still have it. They even capture information from your other devices such as private text messages from your cell phone, cell phone photos and other data without your permission! How about them making a copy of everyone on your Facebook friends list AND, everyone and their phone numbers that are in your cell phone contact list, WITHOUT YOUR OR THEIR PERMISSION OR KNOWLEDGE? Did you know they do this? That is what he was getting at.

      (cont.) The fact that when you download something as innocuous as a 'flashlight app' or an app that allows you to put angel wings & halos or bunny noses on your selfies, you have been forced to click 'agree'. • @CalicoArchives
      @CalicoArchives 6 лет назад +5

      As a tech guy I can explain the breach a bit better than most. In the beginning of Facebook a lot of the profile information was pretty accessible but Facebook later made it much harder for third party applications to be able to see your information. Currently you allow the third party application access through your own consent when you use the app or you typically can't use the app at all. The problem is during the period when user information was more open the damage was already done. But now companies have made bots that will make fake user accounts and will try to friend you and if you accept, those bots will scrape all the information they can see on your profile. It's difficult to know if it's a bot at a glance because they will use your friends names and images so you'll probably accept without evening knowing it was a bot. The senators should be asking questions more along the lines of what precautions are being taken by Facebook to deal with these bots that prey on the human factor.

    • @cmcosens1
      @cmcosens1 6 лет назад +2

      Agree with you 100%. My point is that the majority of this time was spent wasted on pointless questions that an average Facebook user would know the answer to. They wasted their precious time.
