As I end my 2nd year of medical school, I have come to the conclusion that Armando is one of the best “total tutors” on RUclips. On a one to one comparison, he’s better than Osmosis, which I also respect. Since Armando came before Osmosis, it seems that Osmo can only hope to replicate Armando. I’m super grateful for your channel, Armando.

Great,, I wanna add that ..HFE gene protein product facilitates the binding of transferrin to its receptors ,,leading to increased storage ..meaning that the body senses that there's enough iron , so the liver starts to make hepcidin to inhibit the absorption of more iron...
When HFE is mutated ,,,stores aren't filled properly , hepcidin isn't synthesized , reabsorption goes unrestricted and unregulated >>iron accumulates in blood>> then it deposits in tissues

When we do iron studies, we measure ferritin and transferrin levels from the *serum*. However you describe ferritin as only being located in the liver. I wish you had explained what ferritin is doing in the bloodstream and its clinical correlation.

Iron is mainly recycled in the body via macrophages releasing iron from red blood cells. So infact we only need about 1-2mg supplement of dietary iron absorption daily to account for bleeding, and shedding of skin cells etc.

Using these to study physiology in medical school has been a game changer for me as a Visual learner. I would use them as a template to recap what I learned from your videos.
