- My truck came with a class 3 hitch with a 6000 trailer limit and a 600 lb tonque rating which is far less than the trucks 9700 lb tow rating. But worse, the factory class 3 hitch is not approved for use with a weight distribution hitch. Something I was going to need to tow a brand new 30 ft camper. So I ordered a Mopar factory Class 4 hitch, 10,000 lb trailer and 1000 lb tonque... and best of all, approved for use with a WDH up to 1200 tonque! This is the install.

Just bought my 2023 Ram Laramie and was surprised it came with a class 3 hitch and no receiver. I feel the dealership removed it. I just bought the class 4 for $340 from the dealer and going to install hopefully soon. I got a bit confused because I saw a video that the class 3 rows up to 12k pounds and I thought it only did 6k so not sure I need to upgrade. The dealer told md your class 4 tows up to 12,750 pounds. You made it look easy so hopefully it is for me
I agree its weird to equip a truck with a ~10k or more tow rating with a class 3 hitch. And the way they designed it, the oem integrated class 3 hitch requires an adapter to install a typical 2" receiver. BUT... the bolt on adapter can only handle 6000 lbs and its not approved for weight distribution hitches. No good! The class 4 is the way to go :) And yes! It was surprisingly easy!

I wish i watched this first! where you just bought the hitch was a lot cheaper route than dealer only diff was they give you new hardware for a extra $100! I live in vermont too!

Thanks, Just orderd one for my 2023 Ram Laramie, Mine come the same way, Dealer said Factory Could not get Hitchs at the present Time, that's why they are putting on Class 3 Hitch, My 2020 had the Class 5 Hitch. But I did get an additional 500 off for the Hitch.

I have all of the video files of the install but I got injured this summer and havent gotten to it. Hopefully before the end of the year if I heal from surgery soon enough.

Do you have back up sensors on your truck? Just thought about that with mine probably need to disconnect them to take off the bumper
Yes I imagine you would need to disconnect the wires. Mine does not have them.
I didn’t know the class three wasn’t rated for weight distribution hitch is I’ve been using mine for years
A class 3 hitch is strong enough, but it’s the bolt on 2” adapter that is not rated for a wdh. It might work but not worth the risk for me.

I just bought my truck yesterday and I could not believe the class 3 hitch on a truck. Dodge let me down being cheap with the hitch.
How much did you class 4 hitch cost?
It’s obviously a way to get the price point as low as possible. But I don’t mind. It was an easy upgrade and so was adding the oem brake controller (video to come). I put a link to the hitch in the video description below. It’s available at rockauto for 199! Not too bad 👍
Consider this. Would you rather buy a $1000+ option, pay for parts and labor at a dealership, or pay $200 for a part and install yourself?

i just had the dealer install a hitch for me but i think maybe they might have just basically reinstalled a class 3 hitch with that receiver adapter. i'm going to find out tomorrow and if they f'd me over like that i have zero use for a class 3 hitch i can not even move my boat at all. this is stressing me out. and i dont understand why they would even offer this stupid class 3 hitch in the first place knowing damn well the class 4 hitch is only like another 20 dollars... 20 dollars to make everything so much more simple and for people to actually get a real life hitch for a 12,750 pound supposedly rated truck. why ram lies so much about everything...?
I hope you got the class 4! And I agree, other than going cheap I can’t fathom why they would install a hitch that is well below the trucks towing capacity.
@@sstressfl they did install the 4! 😅😅😅 I am so confused as to how they didnt include a proper hitch on a hemi truck.. I understand why they put class 3 hitch on a 3.6 v6 but a v8??? Fishy... It is a 2020 ram classic slt so it must not be the upper echelon of the trim levels but i dont need all that mess i am so unimpressed with all that supposed technology i have it in my car and it does nothing for me. the main thing is it has a backup camera a hemi for towing. They put highway tires on it not all terrains in 2022..on a 4x4 which is another thing i can't understand.. to get maybe a third mpg more... smh. the mindlessness is unbelievable. I buy a truck to have a truck not to drive it like a 4 banger but to use it as intended. I have a car for everything else.
