  • We're onboard a refurbished 777-300ER of British Airways flying one of their premier routes; London Heathrow to Singapore Changi. It's an overnight flight in their 'twin' economy seats at the back of the plane. I'll try their special meal pre order, and we'll get to find out what their refitted aircraft are like. Spoiler, they're so far ahead of the old cabin it's unreal.

    Awww man, sorry about your Grandad. My Granda died when I was in Tokyo…I visited him in Hospital the day before I left and even though I may not have thought at the time, deep down inside I knew it would be the last time, and I cried as I left. He loved hearing about my holidays, and reading about the places I would visit. I well up just thinking about it.

    A great report as always, Jamie. I loved the comparison graphics!
    And what a lovely and touching tribute to your grandad. I used to do the same with my mum, we would sit down together with the atlas so she could see where I would be visiting on my trips. I would also write out a detailed itinerary for her so that she could follow along in real time! Sadly my mum passed away two years ago. She didn't have a lot to leave me, but she had taken out a couple of life assurance policies so she could leave me a little something. I know that she would be so pleased that I'm using that money to travel more!
    My sincere condolences to you and your family. 🙏

    "Game changer" is such an overused phrase. This is an incremental adjustment in the product in order to bring it up to a comparable level as its competitors in order to claw back lost market share. Game changing would be the airport operating authority/UK gov't adjusting the ridiculous taxes & fees charged to passengers. Case in point, BA has the most advantageous schedule in terms of getting from the Middle East/Gulf region to Caribbean destinations. You can do it all in one day since the outbound flights leave the Gulf region at o'dark thirty. Even with booking an award flight in business, the taxes & fees are substantial for transiting through LHR, and lets not forget the security lines. For me as a yank, I will take a US routing to get to the West Indies through NYC or MIA rather than deal with London airports, and I say this as a Qatar Silver member with Avios that I can use on BA metal. Its going to be some time before this cabin makes its way to the "Beach Fleet".

    • @JTsJourneys
      @JTsJourneys  21 день назад

      I still think for me the new cabin is game changing, it means the IFE does work and the arm rest lifts, plus I can charge anything I'm using whilst in the air; this wasn't possible before. I agree the taxes and fees are excessive compared to routing via other hubs, but similarly LHR isn't a great airport to transit through.

    I always thought that British airways would be an amazing airline. Something that the Queen of England would proud to fly on. Then when I actually flew on them so disappointing.
    Depending on the price would pick Malaysia airlines or Singapore airlines any day over BA.

    • @JTsJourneys
      @JTsJourneys  19 дней назад

      Interesting comment. The Queen regularly flew BA when the Concorde fleet were in service, 1A I believe was her preference. BA are certainly no longer amongst the elite airlines they once were, but they're still a solid middle ground airline I'd say. This investment in the cabin elevates them for me.

      Great question, our bags were underweight so I couldn't say if they're strict on that front. With cabin bags I've never seen BA enforce any of the bag sizers at the gate, as long as it looks reasonable I've always been fine there.

      @@JTsJourneys Living in Australia it's great that Singapore partner with Virgin Australia - points, lounges et. Even tho lifetime Gold FF with Qantas prefer SG/VA - just google Qantas complaints - eg just fined millions for selling seats on cancelled flights. Would rate BA as upper average European Airline - euro business a rip off with just middle seat blocked out. Aussie/Asian carriers all 2,2 with PE long haul seats in 737s. Besides LHR reckon UK airports well below most Asian / Oceanic airport standards. Thought LTN, STN even LGW average but 3 weeks ago flew into Manchester - far worse than Manila - airbridge failed; travelators not working yet long inter terminal / station walks, very poor lounge and inadequate public seating. Australia needs more low cost competition - Bonza now stopped so more 5th freedom rights for Batik, Air Asia, Scoot probably only option.

      Qantas were always an airline I held in high regard from a distance, I;ve never flown them but all I seem to hear are negative stories around poor service, shoddy aircraft and mystery flights. Hopefully they come back stronger ahead of sunrise flights. Manchester was my local for many years. It's undergoing a huge investment programme at present and has improved significantly in the past 12 months. A few more years and hopefully it's one to be proud of again... the travelators have been switched off for years to 'save energy'
