I lost my mother at a young age. I had no idea that this was what the story was going to unfold into when I started. By the end I was crying my eyes out. My heart went out to Arvin. This game had such impactful storytelling and it culminated into something personal, real (as far as “real” can be for Pokémon), and deep. I also had mad respect for everyone’s reactions with him to it all. They didn’t coddle him or treat him any different. They gave him an opportunity to grieve and they were his friends every step afterwards.
I’ll also say this: I’ve never been of an opinion about Pokémon and voice acting, but holy shit this would have been the game to do it and I’m just waiting for whoever’s brave enough and patient enough to dub over the dialogue. I’ll be ready to cry once more.

Arven has to be one of if not the most tragic pokemon character.
N was lied to basically his entire life but at least he seemed satisfied leaving with his dragon. Gladion and Lillie at least ended up being happy with the outcome of everything that happened in sun and moon.
But DAMN bro. What the hell was Arven left with? Basically nothing. He had his childhood taken from him, his dog almost died, he was forced to take care of the thing that took his parent's attention, and after years without even seeing his parent, the moment he finally does, it's not even his parent, but an AI of his parent! And then he finds out that his real parent has died. And to make things worse, the AI couldn't even stay with him and left to go to the past/future. Man was literally left with nothing. At least he got his dog.

All three of them were crucial parts of the journey from the very beginning, and we got to interact with them all throughout it. And then when it's finally time for *all* of them to help you traverse the final area (you're actually traveling *together* for once instead of the NPC's just going on ahead), and they're all steadily telling each other about their backgrounds, fighting together against the Paradox mons, as they finally solve the mystery, *you can just FEEL the comradery of it all.* And I love that in storytelling. I'm aware that it's probably just a coincidence and nothing intentional, but I have witnessed this both in my own playthrough as well as in a lot of videos online. Despite warning us that her battling abilities are peerless, the AI makes some extremely illogical decisions during the first battle with the Paradox Pokémon, like using ground type moves against flying types, switching in Pokémon that are weak to the one on the field and so on. Like the briefly glitched-out text at the beginning of the second battle ("AI Sada has no intention on fighting any more"), I believed this to be another instance of the AI desperately trying to fight through her own programming to make it possible for the player to stop her.

One thing I saw mentioned is that AI Sada not being able to agree with Sada's vision can be viewed as retrospect, which is another past vs future theme. It could be that the real Sada would too, in time, have come to the realization that her dream was too reckless and wouldn't work as planned, but she passed away before she could reach that point, leaving her time machine/dream to run unchecked. While she seemed very devoted to protecting the time machine, which is kinda understandable since life's work and also a time machine, things honestly didn't seem to be that bad. It was more of the potential and likely future of Paldea being overrun by Paradox Pokemon that was the issue if the time machine was left to run. But if the real Sada was still around, she may not have left it get that far, especially after the Paradox Titan escaped.
Also, another thing that is easy to miss is that the AI Professor kind of dies too. They talk about going to the past/future to have their own adventure and be free, but just a few minutes prior they mentioned the reason they were bound to lab in Area Zero is because they need the crystals down there to function. So if they were sent to the far past/future, either the crystals wouldn't be there and the AI would cease to function or the crystals are there and they are still stuck in the same area. So yah... Definitely a far darker and deeper story than I was expecting from a Pokemon game.

Most likely she died in another battle because the crystals have seemed to grow over time and AI Sada would have mentioned something about her dying shortly before she contacted you the player. The territorial fight happened after her death perhaps because of the other Koraidon blaming our Koraidon for Sada's death or truly just a territorial fight which caused Koraidon to flee Area Zero

@@TDLBallistic That’s not enough proof for it to be “heavily implied” because although it is the 2nd one they brought, they never implied anything about Koraidon/Miraidon doing it. The territorial fight took place the night before we start the game hence Koraidon/Miraidon fleeing Area Zero. AI Sada/Turo says that Arven’s real mom/dad truly loved him which is why they they sent him letters but a few years ago they stopped implying that Sada/Turo died. That last sentence alone proves my theory a lot. Even more proof is that the lab looks abandoned and destroyed and I don’t think real Sada/Turo would leave it like that if they were alive. Research Station No. 4 looks to be abandoned and destroyed a long time ago plus I don’t think large tera crystals can grow in a matter of weeks or the amount of time you spent on your journey. AI Sada/Turo wouldn’t just call some 10 - 11 year old to fix their problem right after real Sada/Turo died but they would probably take some time to shift to being alone and no human to control them.

The final battle screwed with me so much because the imagery of the glitched out twitchy AI is not only unsettling to witness after all these years of the Professors being generally lovely, but it's straight up *morbid* when you realize the AI is essentially Sada/Turo's personality before becoming consumed by their dreams of "Paradise". So not only do we have to process the plot twist of a main character being dead (+ all the implications this carries for story stuff), we're made to basically witness the steps by which this happened in rapid succession as we see the AI switch from normal Professor, to madness, then back again. It felt like the final switch back was symbolizing the regret Sada/Turo likely held deep down inside as their life flashed before their eyes at the time of dying... while the forming tera crystals/damaged body + decision to leave to the past/future were reminding us of the fact that the Professor was too far gone and nothing could have been done to change things. They are truly, 100% *gone*. Or at least that's how it felt for me in that moment for me.
Regardless of what our personal take aways are from the story, it's safe to say this was an amazing conclusion and Gamefreak truly outdid themselves here!

Worst part is that you can be mad at him without thinking he's an idiot for exiling you. I mean yeah, if some person fell out of the sky around the same time these Pokemon go rogue, I'd be hella suspicious too. But I loved that you had characters like the Guild leaders, Rei or Akari (depending on which you played as), Cyllene, and even motherfucking Volo(who was only helping you for his own personal gain, but you don't know that yet), and the professor(I can't remember his name either) help you from the 'shadows,' so to speak.

I really can't decide how I feel about the original Sada/Turo. The AI shares her memories, but is still a separate being. Can one really code their own mind? I like to think that AI Sada is her own entity, just incredibly similar to the original Sada.
I can believe that Sada THOUGHT she loved her son, but her actions were still hurtful and traumatic for Arven. At the end of the day, that's neglect. He had no one (Mabosstiff is wonderful but it sadly doesn't count as a parental figure). We don't really know much about HER, only her AI. One could make a case that AI Sada is an idealized version of her even. Who would want to immortalize the bad parts of themself? She could've been so far into her work that she didn't even realize what she was doing, or she could've been so busy because she didn't care enough to add Arven into her schedule, or she could've been so wrapped up because she wanted to make the world safer for him, or show him the results to make him proud. We have no idea. We also can't say that AI Sada is an accurate reflection of her either. Anything she says to Arven at the end of the game is not a thought the original Sada had and we can't prove that the original Sada did have that same thought during her lifetime.
At the end of the day, Arven suffered because of her neglect, intentional or not. I can't say she's evil. We have no idea how much of that programming was her intention, the AI, or the Paradise Protection Protocol gone awry. What we can say is that she failed as a mother.

There's a theory that the Tera crystals may have affected her mind, driving her almost insane. The desire to work on the time machine wasn't entirely her own, it could have been influenced by the crystals. Since AI Sada wasn't organic, the crystals didn't affect her in the same way. If the theory is true, she, programmed using the real Prof Sada's memories as her basis, gives us the closest understanding of Sada's true thoughts, free from the effects of the Tera crystals. I'd like to believe the real Sada would be proud of Arven, were she not consumed by the influence of the crystals. I think it makes it even more tragic of a story, ngl, especially with what I saw in another comment saying she threw herself in front of the weaker Koraidon because she thought it was Arven. There could have been a good mother in there, but it was doomed to stay trapped within the depths of her mind.

Lusamine was distraught after her husband (Mohn) got sucked into a portal (Which ended up being PokePelago) and she threw herself into her work about portals/wormholes to get him back. But then she encountered Niliego. An Ultra Beast that fed on Lusamine and (in a sense) took control of her. Her ambition to find her husband was lost and instead replaced with the need to open those wormholes to Ultra Space and basically abandon her children _for_ the Ultra Beast Niliego.
Basically both Sada (the real one) and Lusamine, were both consumed by their ambition that got corrupted/twisted in some way.
I think something might have corrupted Sada as well in way. She had _some_ form of consciousness of what she doing. But like you said, it's like her _ambition_ took control of her.

To stick to the Made in Abyss similarities, original Sada's character is very similar to Bondrewd (Made in Abyss spoilers for Dawn of the Soul ahead, beware). Bondrewd, like Sada, was blinded by ambition. He wanted to desperately find a way for humans to be able to ascend the Abyss, which curses anyone who attempts to ascend back up from the depth, with the effects being much worse the deeper down you ascend from. He eventually came to know that he had to abandon a sense of reality, the one he would have had back in Orth at the surface, and this was seen by him completely losing his humanity: white whistles gain their whistles by sacrificing one that is dearest to them, but Bondrewd managed to do so by quite literally sacrificing himself, using a relic to keep himself alive, and essentially immortal. This man is no longer human, he has gone beyond the "original" Bondrewd (like AI Sada surviving Sada), can just switch hosts if his current host gets compromised. Under this form, he could experience in depth the effects of the curse (and blessing) of the Abyss, in fact discovering (after using that funny elevator on orphaned kids from the surface) that the key to surviving the Abyss and getting blessed is love, true actual love for the one person you hold the most to (proven by the experiment done on Mitty and Nanachi).
Both Sada and Bondrewd also had a love for their child. Bondrewd adopted Prushka and quite literally raised her, with genuine love and care. But this is where Sada and Bondrewd diverge: Sada loved her son so much he wanted to protect him from the truth of the Crater, so she shoved him away. Bondrewd loved his daughter so much, it enabled him to exploit the truth of the Abyss, so he quite literally used her, turned her into a funny little cartridge that he could use to survive the curse of the Abyss. But in the end, both have hurt their children through love because of their blindness by ambition, which goes to show that ambition can get in the way of your senses and the people around you.
Arven wanting to find his mother deep in the Crater is also a very similar premise to Riko's longing to find her mother deep in the Abyss, though such a plot can be easily found at random, it's some sort of trope. The Area Zero theme however gives off a lot of Made in Abyss vibe, and let's not forget how the area itself has the same ethereal, "beautiful but cruel" atmosphere to it, with surprising but dangerous creatures in it. Even some "non-Crater" Pokemon like Tinkaton and Orthworm have a lot of similarity to some MiA aspects: Tinkaton's hammer has a similar theme and design to relics or general raider tools in MiA, such as that exploding pickaxe Riko gets her hands on, and Orthworm looks very similar to a Splitjaw in terms of color, and even his name has "Orth" in it, like the city that sits upon the rims of the Abyss, though it could be a way to combine "Ore" and "Earth", though (its Japanese name is Mimizuzu so there isn't really anything MiA in its true name).
But it wouldn't be surprising if they took inspiration from Made in Abyss. Season 2 recently is considered among the best in 2022, and in general the story and worldbuilding is just utterly beautiful. But it's unfortunate that the author gives off a lot of p**o vibes and pretty much draws l*li kinks on the back covers, let alone draw the characters in very weird situations here and there despite being literal children :/

Sada and Toru are indeed really sad stories, specially for the ones left behind. Arvin.
Sada's and Toru's dreams are complicated, as Sada/Toru would have indeed change the entire known ecosystem of Paldea and would had accepted some destruction, in the progress of the Paradox pokemon settling in within Paldea, yet in their final moment neither Sada or Toru couldn't follow through.
In the natural order the powerfull overcome the weak, yet when the aggresive second Koraidon/Miraidon attacked the more timid one (our ride pokemon) Sada/Toru jumped between them, eventhough them fighting is the natural order. Resulting in the lost of their lifes. They couldn't reverse the protection protocal put in place anymore after their passing.
Other little facts are found in the journals that Sada/Toru left behind in the 4 research stations. Of their struggles reaching the bottom of the crater. Of the birth of terastilizing by using the fragments of a shell of an unknown pokemon. Of Sada/Toru's partner walking out on them and Arvin soon after Arvin's birth. Of Sada/Toru being so close to reaching their goal of being able to build a functioning time machine, if only they had another pair of hands, AKA the birth of AI Sada/ AI Toru.
There are alot of interresting little things found in the crator and we're left to believe that the professors were bad, yet when it came to the creatures they summoned their natural instinct, that they would attack eachother, they changed heart.

Normally both versions of the games are nearly the same thing so you'd pick them on a coin toss and not lose anything but this time i think the gen 9 story is even better in scarlet.
One part because Arven looks way more like Sada than Turo, so it connects his story to the parent professor more, and the other part because the discovery of area zero and its paradoxes looks better with the past paradoxes.
Imo they fit the area better than the future ones, maybe they should have make the AZ change because of the time machine too, so the future paradoxes would roam in a weird futuristic crater.
In Scarlet, before you get to the bottom (pun intended) of the area zero mystery, you feel like YOU travelled in prehistoric times right from the first encounters with paradoxes, something the ones in Violet dont carry nearly as much

So many people called it! So many people predicted that the professors would be the antagonist, but I don’t think anybody had any idea just how that would play out. I personally think Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have some of the best written characters and plot within the series. Right next to Pokémon Sun and Moon.
I also loved how Team Star was handled. I thought we were getting another delinquent team that would feel like a reskin of Team Skull, just even more watered down than Team Yell was. Yet, that was not the case at all. And the whole story of this part of the game addressed a real world issue that needs resolution; the issue of school bullying. However, unlike so often in real life, the head of the school actually decided to do something about it!
Top these story features off with an open world Pokemon game, and we’ve got a pair of Pokémon games that I can say are just really, really good.
Of course, you do have the bugs and glitches issues. But for one thing, I personally did not run into any of these. Except for certain NPC is moving at all reframe rates. But secondly, we all adore Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, and they have lots of bugs too. so I’m not gonna say that these games are flawless, but they are really fun and overall good.

Something that still doesn't come together for me quite right:
The Professor is presented as this tragedy whose ambition led them to single-minded insanity, causing them to reach a point in their lack of rationality where they would be willing to let the present day of Paldea be utterly trampled by the Paradox Pokemon they seek to introduce into the present day. But if the professors truly loved their son, as is stated and eluded to, then why would they be willing to endanger him and the world they live in? You can't be a sociopath AND love your child, especially not in a Pokemon game - that's just not how GameFreak write their characters.
The Scarlet/Violet books hint at another possibility, or at least an elaboration. During his expedition, Heath noted of quite a few strange phenomena; Pokemon out of time which, feasibly, should not even be there since they arrived before the Professors' expedition (the Past/Present Paradox theory makes sense in Sada's case, but not in Turo's), the giant cave with the huge insignia on the floor, the Area Zero stone tablet at the bottom of the crater, etc. But the ones I'd like to focus on here are the ones referring to possible effects on Heath and his crew's sanity. Firstly, a sketch artist on Heath's team decided randomly one day to draw a sketch of what the books refer to as an "Imaginary Pokemon", one based off of the strange Pokemon they'd been seeing in the crater and could theoretically live among them. Firstly, it's already been all but confirmed thanks to data mining that this "imaginary" Pokemon (legendary beast hybrid in Scarlet, swords of justice hybrid in Violet) will be included in the forthcoming expansion to the game, meaning that this Pokemon is real. But if the artist isn't aware of the fact that it's real, then what really compelled them to draw it?
Next is Heath's diagram, the one he claims that he had no memory of drawing; the one that is in his handwriting, yet he has no recollection of drawing it nor does he understand any of the note/formulas included alongside it.
My working theory is that something down in Area Zero is influencing the minds of those who enter it. That whatever incepted the idea of drawing the imaginary Pokemon into the mind of Heath's artist, whatever caused Heath himself to draw and take the notes that he did and then cause him to forget about it entirely; they are the same force that drove the Professors to obsessive insanity. And I believe that the one pulling these strings is the redacted entity that both Heath and the Professors made note of finding at the bottom of the crater - the Disk Pokemon.
We know very little of the Disk Pokemon, only that it is comprised of hexagonal plates that shine brighter than gemstones and that samples from these plates were taken and used to create the Tera Orbs. It is not of this world, clearly. Over a million years ago, something fell from the heavens, creating the massive crater we know today. In this crater, Pokemon of past, present, and future would all come to coexist with one another in what would eventually become a walled garden paradise. Sounds kind of biblical, right? I thought so, too. Between the imagery of the upper sections of the crater yielding a breathtaking and otherworldly natural beauty, the words of the professor regarding their garden paradise, Koraidon being dubbed the Guardian of Paradise, the fact that you can find just about every type of fruit in the game littering the grass of the crater, and the fact that the end credits theme is called Celestial, there's a lot packed into this final section of the game that could be perceived as biblically allegorical. And I believe that to be intentional, because the drawing of the Disk Pokemon is somewhat reminiscent of a biblically accurate angel, and the art style of the drawing is very similar to that of the Hermetic Tarot by Godfrey Dowson. Finally, its name has been redacted from every piece in the game that makes reference to it, as if its name is one that shan't be uttered.
Through this lens, the Disk Pokemon is not only presented as an otherworldly entity, but as godly one. One whose very existence is beyond our comprehension. One that seeks to create their garden paradise in Paldea by any means necessary (lending its power to the Professors for the creation of the Tera Orbs and the Time Machine). One that seeks to merge past, present, and future, much like how the spectrum of light merges together from scarlet to violet.
Light is going to play an enormous role thematically in the forthcoming expansion (as even hinted at by shots like the one at 1:27). And at the center of it all will be this Disk Pokemon, which will hopefully give credence to this long-winded crackpot theory I have about GameFreak developing a sentient Lovecraftian god Pokemon whose goal is to make our reality transcend time itself. But hey, that's JUST a theory...
Hey, Charles, it's Peter. All is well, and I hope you are, too.
