Dear me... the anime was that far off center with the game element plot pieces.
They really tempered that crazy. At least early on.
The sanity of any adult sending kids to regulate alien life appearing in your neck of the woods should be questioned... more so when you fathom how much was spent on Ash and them.
But hyper Yondere was not what I expected.
The lack of gyms ruined my motivation to complete sun and moon the game. Glad to hear the story part was at least interesting.
Id
Ego
Super Ego
Perspective... because I always add that separate from the mind and soul.
I took what I learned of those 3 in HS psychology and related it to my own beliefs.
I see people as these 4 elements (yes I mean the word Element and not some other... I mean it as Periodic chart of elements type of element)
Body= Id; both chemically and not chemically. Those impulses regardless of "cause" exist because of how those instincts manifest in the body.
Mind= Ego, As in your thoughts that are conscious. constantly there and trying to negotiate with the others it is logic and reason; it is not emotions at all. The mechanical more Lizard like calculating and cold part of the self.
Spirit= Super Ego; Its your subconciousness and emotions. Unlike Id it does not tempt or try to persuade. Its blunt and to the point and so it challenges both the others that try to maintain #1 in your deciding factor.
Perspective= It is only an observer; and it is the real self at the core of cores. Because without it there is no extroverse activity and everything would be locked into introverse. Its the glue and foundation that the rest are given form by. By the same token it also has the least concrete form to be understood by. To put it another way it is not the light of reason or the shadow of desire; but rather the cones and rods on a persons eyes that allows the understanding of light and shadow.
I would like to point out in US and UM Lusamine calmed down after seeing the might of Necrozma but when you enter the room to fight Giovanni in the after story ( where you fought Lusamine ) all the Pokémon are still frozen soooo….. yeah.😂
So she is still quite the nutty lady on any timeline lol.
Not To Mention Ultra Necrozma Became A GOD ! 👍🏽
@charusharu there was an excuse of her freezing them because they were sick
Maybe she did smarten up, and was about to try thawing them out (secretly, of course) in the time just before Team RR overtook Aether Paradise.
I like the detail during the Mother Beast fight that all of Lusamine’s Pokémon have recovery moves. Clefable’s got Moonlight, I think Milotic had Aqua Ring or Recover, and the others had similar moves. It’s meant to evoke this idea of perpetuation; that she doesn’t want the high from Nihilego’s toxins and her studies of the Ultra Beasts to end. If it ends, then she feels like she’ll lose the last connection she has to her late husband, Mohn.
That is a really great insight!
🤯 her character is even more amazing than I thought then
Her husband ain't exactly dead though, he is a faller, just like Annabelle
Meanwhile Mohn chilling on an island farming beans: 🤠
But how does she even have that connection with him because of the ultra beasts? Like he's been gone and nothing changes but the end of the game.
The fact Lusamine doesn't care if she abandoned her children, Doesn't care if Nebby dies l, just for the sakes of opening a ultra wormhole. Leave me wondering that this woman is beyond psychopath
She's on a whole different level for sure.
The anime's Lusamine is the opposite. When she fused with Nihilego, it was a sacrifice for her children, something the game's version of Lusamine would never do. However, she doesn't feel like a completely separate character because her obsession with the Ultra Beasts is still there. It just isn't her core priority like it is in the games. Basically, the anime took Lusamine's core personality and flipped it on its head.
Lusamine is such an interesting character and one of the best executed antagonists in the series in my opinion. I'm really, really enjoying these introspections you've started doing for the villainous characters, I'd absolutely be down to see more of them. Love your editing, too (never has Zekrom looked this terrifying before, oml)!
Glad you're enjoying these! It's been refreshing, so hopefully they'll catch on. :)
@Marav Reviews I've never understood that. The only thing they have in common is that they're bad parents to our friends and rivals, and even then I'd rather compare Ghetsis to Giovanni than to either of the others. And even _then_ it doesn't really fit, as Giovanni simply doesn't care for his son at all instead of actively using him for his own gain. Ghetsis is probably the closest we have in the series to a purely, one-dimensionally evil villain, which like you said, Lusamine is very much not. (Or, to say it with JPR's words: The difference is that Giovanni has an honor code, while Ghetsis is just insane.)
I truly LOVED experiencing Pokemon Sun. It was my gateway back into Pokemon after leaving it off with Black. The story was very well done, the animation was impressive, the concept of Ultra Beasts is still to this day very interesting, and Mimikyu exists!
Definitely a 9/10 game overall!
It was a lot of fun! I really enjoyed the setting and story, too. :)
let me geuss z moves are why it's a 9 out of 10 why does everyone hate them?
@@dirpycatkittymeowmeow9099 Well, I don't hate them at all. But the whole thing was kinda "meh" for me. I was one of the ones hoping for more megas, and that's probably what influenced my opinion on Z moves.
Had I not been exposed to Megas beforehand, I would have probably liked it more.
To this very day, Nihilego’s cry puts me into fight-or-flight mode.
Since Pokémon Sun was my first ever Pokémon game, the story still sticks with me, and I tend to come back to it and think about it a lot.
This video legitmately motivates me to play through it
@@ArtisChronicles Play it, it's good
I quite enjoyed the post-game Team Rainbow Rocket plotline in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, but I wonder if there was one thing that may have been missing. I mean, imagine a surprise twist where Lusamine from the Sun & Moon timeline (or rather from an alt timeline of the original Sun & Moon where she had won) was now secretly working closely alongside Rainbow Rocket's Giovanni and was the actual final boss following Giovanni's battle and her other, (perhaps less malevolent & less crazy) self from the Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon timeline meet and is disgusted by her evil other-self from that timeline...? (Now imagine what would happen if Nihilego attached itself to... Nemona from Scarlet & Violet..!?, lol)
I love that idea. And Nihilego attaching itself to Nemona would be a pretty freaky scenario indeed lol.
Speaking of Team Rainbow Rocket, I'm shocked that they're not in the anime, that's what they should do for Ash and Pikachu's final hurrah, make it a movie, have not just him but every traveling companion, rival, and friend he made along his journey join him in this final battle against Team Rainbow Rocket with Faba be replaced by chairman Rose, it's too bad I don't think we're going to get that.
@@AnonymousEnigma19 Yeah, it would have been brilliant to see Team Rainbow Rocket... but alas ;-;

This is really well written Pokemon antagonist. It starts with personal tragedy, and then it leads further into the darkness (I don't think that even Pokemon Special manga was so bold with her).
In case of her final form the game devs did take some inspiration from the Pokemon Reburst manga (it's not very popular take on pokemon, but personally I like it).
PS. The fandom really did make a lot of crazy fanart of Lumine and Nihilego.
Reburst is pretty wild - I actually have a full set of it and have been wanting to do a video on it. And yes, there is definitely a lot of wild fan art out there lol.
@maravreviews4035final boss of Megaman X8, perhaps
@@charusharu wild 😏😏
She was great antagonist. Not cartoonishly evil like the other Team Leaders.
There is always one messed up thing in a Pokemon game.
In Kanto you have Lavender Town.
In Johto, Raikou Entei and Suicune were apparently reincarnated by Ho-oh.
In Hoeen, the teams went from just stealing Pokemon to wanting to cause a flood/drought of the entire region.
In Sinnoh, you are trying to stop time and space from collapsing.
In Kalos, you literally had a World War Pokemon WHERE YOU VISIT THEIR GRAVES!
She’s literally a PG version of Ragyo from Kill La Kill. I hear her villain theme every time Lusamine appears on screen
Haha I like that reference!
Thanks!
Lusamine is very different in USUM, and SM and in the anime.
In the anime she is a caring mother that eventually falls to Nihiliego but the Type Null situation was done only by one of her subordinates.
In USUM, I believe she is a still caring mother, but since Necrozma might destroy Alola, for fear off losing more people beloved to her, she takes the villain's route, she not exactly evil but she takes the whole burden for herself. Guzma is not hired but actually respects her.
I have not played SM, I only have seen parts of the story, but having such a great detail in analyzing the character is very cool. Lusamine is so different in both games. This is a person that lost her marbles because of a toxin, and people could not stop her until MC arrives.
I personally like USUM more. Although SM Lusamine can be a great villain and a great analyzation of ID, Super Ego and Ego, Lusamine is not the only character that takes most of the development or has to run the whole plot o revolve around it.
Guzma and team skull are not just some gang, they are a group of rejects whom Guzma give a place to belong. Lilie becomes more courageous and you can see to the point of challenging you as one of the possible trainers when you defend your title as a Champion. Lusamine does not have to be evil or have lost her mind, she can still have her mental faculty, and her goals have a lot of bias of her taking over everything because of the loss of her husband. Also, Necrozma lore and story are very interesting.
A being that provided light but was so abused because of its power it became too hurt that it lost its original form. Because of such action, it wants to steal all the light and attack anyone to prevent it to lose its form again. When I fight it, it felt more like a beast that could not trust humanity again. So it not only t felt like I was attacking a monster with all my might, but this monster was doing the same.
A lot of characters get developed in USUM, even many members of Team Skull. And I really like that. And once again, I like that Necrozma was not some big bad, it was fighting us at its best because of trauma, rage, and also fear of losing its form once again.
Although the frozen Pokemon in USUM...it kind of makes sense now. Given how they play Lusamine throughout the story in USUM, the frozen Pokemon did not make sense to me. I was always confused about it and how they gloss over it and no one mentions it ever again or Lusamine does not show such hobbies again or says she stop doing that.
I see this as a leftover from SM. A cool scene that took some time to make in the battle before she goes in the Wormhole with Guzma to defeat Necrozma and save Alola. I think they just though it took more effort to take away, and it could be a nice Easter egg from SM.
I will say it, SM's Lusamine character does sound like a great trip, and at the same time one of the great differences in story and character. Even in Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum did not had such a great change in story and characters in the third version. I say characters because Guzma is not just some underling. He respects and admires Lusamine, and wants to save Alola with her.
Since I did not play SM and only saw parts of the story, besides Lusamine, I cannot say if SM, has the exact way as the characters play out. For one I do not think SM Guzma and USM Guzma are the same. Hau and Gladion I do not think they change that much. I think Lillie becomes more courageous in my opinion that is clouded by not having played the first game. Pretty much the majority of the characters with the exception of some team Skull members, Guzma, and Lusamine are the same (from the ones that SM and USUM share).
Lots of great info here - thanks for sharing! It's really interesting how she's been handled across these alternate universes.
@@charusharu Thanks for the video! I will like to thank you for getting me into Pokemon Journeys! I would have not watched it without your videos, each time making me click on them.

Lusamine is by far the Most terrifying villain in pokemon. Nothing is more dangerous than an angered mother. She still gives me chills
I think I agree - she is one freaky lady.
Oh please. Lusimane is NOTHING compared to a Hispanic mother armed with the Chancla.
There is no escape from the Chancla

I think it’s fitting that she has a bewear on her team. IT’s described in the Pokédex as being strong enough to break people’s spines with hugs. Like Lusamine, their “love” destroys all they care about.
A small detail in Lusime's last battle, all of her pokemon look angry, except for Bewear
I wished Lusamine would have been in the Master’s 8 Tournament, I would have love to see a match beteeen her and Cinthia or Diantha.
It would definitely be fun to see her in action again. :)
For just a momebt I thought you were referencing the sword abd shield dlc tournament
Lusamine's not as much a trainer as she is a businesswoman. Her Pokemon are quite powerful but nowhere near Champion level, at least not in the anime.
I actually appreciated the darkness covered in the series.
I loved how Pokémon tried radically insane villains, starting off slow with Archie and Maxie, then moving to Cyrus whose goals slowly became more outlandish, to Ghetsis who was the classical manipulator and lying villain who just wants to watch the world burn, then Lysandre who had so much wasted potential but essentially wanted to nuke a city to preserve its beauty (stupid thought process ik), but Lusamine really filled in where Lysandre failed showing valid motivation for her actions. I hope Pokémon does better than their most recent villains because apart from Sada/Turo, their recent team leaders and antagonists have been underwhelming and ün intimidating compared to past villains.
I feel like they cant do much better
I was really disappointed they removed some of her development in USUM
It was certainly a bit of a different take on the character!
You know what, I will like to see a more "grown-up" take on Pokémon as a show and or game. All of them aside, you did a really good job, with this video..
I think that would be cool too. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Thanks, poke girl! Much appreciated! Hope you're doing well, too.
I loved the SoLuna games and after playing both Sun and Ultra Sun, I get the vibes that SoLuna and Ultra Soluna were Bad End and Good End, respectively, for Lusamine. For me, it would explain why the gameplay and events were almost identical with few differences here and there between the games.
Lillie and Lusamine would have to be my favorite character out of all the pokemon series.
This is why. Lillie sweetness and how sinister Lusamine can be.
Here’s a pun now,

Also what do you think of this dress? Do you think I should go with another one?

I see myself slowly becoming like Lusamine.
I see myself becoming a role model to others and my desire is growing within myself and other accelerating.
I attempt to create beauty. I wearing nihilego went, Commenting to now creating.
I have plummeted into my own madness but I’m lucky that people were to help save myself from going too far from the abyss alot.
I see the warning, Now I embrace both sides. Lillie and Lusamine, that why I’m Lusallie.
This is beautifully said, but I don't think that getting inspired by Lusamine, even just a little bit, is a good thing.
Lus-mind - I like the pun haha.
So the true meaning of the sun and moon storyline is that even saints can be sick at their core when you remove their inhibitions...a good lesson, but a dark one gamefreak. Thank goodness we have those inhibitions.
I'm excited to see what may be announced tomorrow for Pokemon day and especially for DLC for S/V. I mean if what so many think is true and the third legend we know is out there really is evil or the big end fight it would be interesting to see what you think. I mean in a main line game there hasn't really been a evil pokemon villain. Maybe Necrozma or Eternatus but they seem to be more just following what they are. It's their nature. Most of the time pokemon are controlled or being forced to do bad by humans. a pokemon who is just evil and actually uses humans would be crazy to see. I think the xy anime did a bit of that with Malimar but more would be cool
I hope we get news of DLC! We'll find out pretty soon. :)
All I Know Is U-Necrozma >>>>>>>>>arceus
PLOT TWIST! The third legendary is a cute lil turtle! His name is Terapagos.
I prefer replaying USUM, but I really wish they wouldn't have changed Lusamine's story so much. They could have built on the story as a whole and truly made it the definitive versions.
Yeah, ti was an interesting choice - though at the very least it's interesting to see how differently events can turn out across alternate timelines.
I’m glad people are still talking about Sun and Moon all these years later. I was bored with it at first honestly and only pretty recently finished it. The story is great, the postgame is great, and I love shiny hunting in these games. Can’t wait to give USUM a try soon as well 😊
Edit for a small P.S.: Lusamine is exactly who I think of when I hear the term “toxic feminity.” She’s like the picture of it, her whole thing is overprotective mother cranked up to 11. And it’s not without reason; Lusamine herself is likely also traumatized by the sudden loss of her husband.
There is reason why I’m the Lillie who more Lusamine.
I like how Pokémon has these really elaborate plot devices and half the villains wouldn't be out of place from something like Jojo, and then it's completely juxtaposed by them being clapped by a mere chipmunk faced child, in a child's hobby.
Not only is Lusamine dark in the story but also the rule 34 fandom is also rather dark
The rule 34 fandom is indeed an absolute free for all.
Arvin to Lillie and Gladion: dw guys i have a great therapist
Never got to play this, Didn't think it would ruin the story because I played Ultra Moon, BUT DANG DID ULTRA MOON AND SUN
butcher this story, I never got to see the extreme of her mom! She doesn't merge with anything in Ultra Moon... WOW
Now I get why they say The story is 10x better in sun and moon
Yeah, USUM was certainly a different take on the story!
I'm disappointed that my first experience with Gen 7 was with Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. While the gameplay and pacing was overall improved, I feel like the whole Lusamine arc was undercut and severely toned down, leading to an unsatisfying experience.
Losing yourself is perhaps one of the most terrifying things that could happen to anyone.
It's like Lusamine saw herself as the "Aether" Paradise Protection Protocol...
The biggest misstep of Sun/Moon is that GF was too afraid to not make a player insert and just make Lily the MC of the game.
I still love Anime Lusamine while she still has her..goals and well thoughts she’s not as insane as her Game counterpart she cares and loves her kids and they come first to her before anything else.
Anime Lusamine is definitely more balanced haha.
This was my favorite pokemon storyline, and I was pissed when I played through UsUm and found out they butchered it
lol, it's funny because you've made that video wile i was busy drawing that Nihilego form but with Volo instead of Lusamine, i just thaught it would be fun to do and it was, plus they have the same colors palette and that reminded me of a theory by Bird keeper Toby 🤔😁
Cool! That would be an interesting piece of art to see. :)
Nihilego actually reminds me of human 'parasites', they create a sense of dependency and cause erosion in their target's relationships. They do so by causing them to believe everyone is betraying them, isolating them from other people (Gladios and Lily). They then provide 'support and caring' once their victim is feeling betrayed and inferior and make it so that they are the only one their victim can rely on. Lusamine was the opposite of 'freed', her dependency is akin to stockholm syndrome.
The original Sun and Moon’s story is so much better than Ultra Sun/Moon’s story.
7:17 just the pikachu alone proves she's heartless😡🔪
oh my god I've only watched the sun and moon anime I didn't know lucamine freaking DIED
And those kicks are straight dad approved!!
Yes they are! I also have their Weekend Chelsea's (black) for a sleek look when it isn't so cold out. :)
There's actually more to Lusamine having "no ego;" Freud based the triad of superego, ego, and id, off of older philosophical beliefs of the human person being made up of the mind, will and body, these beliefs go back all the way to at least Egypt probably even farther. In these ancient traditions view the mind/superego as symbolized by the head, the body/id as symbolized by the bowels or guts, and the will/ego as symbolized by the heart.
In other words, Lusamine is heartless.
One of the best stories and they had the gall to tone it down in USUM. Shame
12:39
No. Not merely several. All those squares lining up the walls in the background? Those are all the same containers with cryo-preserved pokemon. Personally, I like to think, aside from the horror factor, that it was a slight jab at players with Living-dex collections in their PC boxes or Pokebank.
Either way, realization of that hit me hard.
all this insanity from the first sun and moon game, a shame it got ultra nerfed in the ultra games and the anime.....
of course scarlet and violet would show us what'd happen to Lusamine if she did go even further than she did in the original, unimpeded by kids: she'd probably be as dead as Sada and Turo!
in a sense, the 3 are pretty similar, the only difference is Lusamine got interferred with in time, while no one was there to stop either Sada or Turo from going into the deep, and in the end they technically died alone when their paradox lizards fought each other and killed the professors by accident....
A shame indeed! I thought it was one of the most striking elements of the original SM games. Good points about how things could have ended up had Lusamine continued down that path.
Though that is true, I feel like most of the lost Lusamine time was used for Ultra Necrozma. And without Ultra Necrozma, we wouldn't have that banger of a theme. (And frankly, one of the only hard battles in the entire series, and thats good.)
@@Dipped1234 Ahh Ultra Necrozma. I failed so many times that I ended up just cheesing it with Toxic Mimikyu lol

I feel like Lusamine peaked at the original SM games. USUM kinda softened her character and made her palatable, almost as if she gets a pass for being the only woman supervillain in Pokémon at that point thus far. But if there's any takeaway from USUM that I actually really loved, it's Mohn showing up in Aether Foundation, not knowing who Lusamine is and Lusamine deciding to let Mohn go. That scene broke my heart into millions of pieces.

I'll say it right here, Lusamine may very well be the best villain in all of pokemon
the way you were so real in this video lol
And this isn't even mentioning how she took advantage of a broken man and manipulated him into doing her bidding. She even bought him a damn boat, which I forgot about before seeing it in this video.
It was so much more than just 'hiring' him and his gang. Simply hiring him wouldn't have been enough to make anyone jump through a wormhole after her into an unknown alien dimension. There's obviously so much more going on under the surface of that toxic relationship that I would just love to see unpacked.
This is an awesome insight - it would be really interesting to explore that relationship in more detail.
@charusharu You can visit Guzma's House on Route 2, it sets up the foundations of his character very well. Hints at how he wanted to be a trial captain but never made it, hints at physical abuse from his father, sets up a MASSIVE superiority complex with the trophies he won that the game explicitly tells you not a single one is for first place...
And Lusamine is exactly the kind of person who would take advantage of all that backstory for a loyal servant who will do whatever she asks, just by making him feel he's worth something.
@@KeyboardSerpent He's definitely another tragic character worth digging into. A great potential topic for a future video. :)
@charusharu I think he absolutely is. Combine that backstory with the found family he's fostered between the grunts he cares for (all of them unable to complete their island challenge, just like he couldn't) and he's truly one of the best and most well-written characters in Pokémon. In my opinion, of course.
I am appreciating Charles for covering both the games and the anime aspects these days.
Glad you're enjoying these! It means a lot.

A Diglett.
lusamine in the sun and moon games was such a good villain i wish we had more villains that were actually insane instead of being just normal people who occasionally do something slightly wrong
Lusamine was so hardcore that the franchise tried to retroactively make her a good guy, which ironically ruined her entire story.
This is a hot take but I think Ultra sun and Ultra moon are the best games in the series. Good Story, cool animations and good character and Pokémon designs.
Sun and Moon anime Lusamine is a saint compared to her game counterpart.
Yeah this is really different to the vilains we have in pokemon now...
Lusamine's a great character. Both versions of her. The anime's incarnation is a flawed but loving mother who threw herself between her children and Nihilego without hesitation. The game's incarnation is a narcissist who's hyper focussed on the Ultra Beasts so her motives for fusing with Nihilego were entirely self-serving. Her core priorities in the anime are the reverse of what they are in the games.

@@charusharu fun fact in Philippines we have a charecyer who has french fries for his head his name is popo and is one of the mascots for jolibee! :D
Pokemon can be super messed up if you look for it, this time they decided to be more obvious.
In alola you get a 3 for 1 deal on childhood trauma.
Yeah, they didn't hold back on this one haha.
You leave Mr. Mime out of this
I'm just Happy to see you Charles 🙂
Literally
Happy to see you too, Helena! Thanks for the comment! :)
That game was the best - haven't played any new ones
Me who is actually playing this game right now
If you want to see "too far" read the Pokémon adventures manga especially Xy's chapter as it is especially "interesting".
Geebus I completely forgot how this story went..guess that means I need to replay Sun and US
Yeah, it's a pretty wild ride haha.
@Marav Reviews oh I know, it’s just that it’s been years since i played the game so I forgot how intense the story was
Is this in the normal sun and moon bc I have US/UM and the boss fight against Lusamine never happened
You knocked this out of the park!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it :)
@@charusharu I have a degree in applied psychology, and really enjoyed the resolution you came to at the end. Great work!
@@gioshideout Awesome! I really appreciate the kind words. Hope you enjoy the next character study as well. :)
You can tell Lusamine wanted to be with Nihilego for a long time because in her crazy longing she made her daughter dress like one
Wonder what humanity would do with Nihilego?
I only watched the sm anime and holy crap they rlly toned Lusamine and the intensity compared to the game
They reversed Lusamine's priorities in the anime. In the games, her fascination with the Ultra Beasts is her main priority and her sense of responsibility towards her children is all but non-existent. In the anime, she's still interested in the Ultra Beasts but Lillie and Gladion are her main priority. The scene where she throws herself between them and Nihilego really demonstrates how her core personality is the opposite of the game's incarnation.
