Idk why ppl think she's creepy. She's just kinda lonely, with a stifled identity, and happy to spend time with someone she can relate to and makes her feel more valid as an individual. She holds herself back so much just to be around others, so of course having someone she can be herself around unapologetically is just so surreal for her. I can understand this story on way too many levels tbh.

@artsycosmie887 As was pointed out in the video, it isn't easy when everyone responds adversely to her boisterous personality. Funnily enough, even director Clavell tells her to reel it in upon your first meeting. People either are offput by her status or the fact that she is completely out of their league; either way, the constant dismissal of her more forward efforts for validation seemed to have made her socially inept. Ironically, the comically blank/emotionless canvas of the protagonist (which we have all come to understand as rather bland) is exactly the non-judgmental companion Nemona always needed to be herself. Stalking isn't justified by any means, but the motivations behind what she does are understandable and just very sad.

Another additional theory I like about Nemona is the theory that she's actually a sick kid. In area zero, she was shown to have the least stamina out of the main cast, with even the shut-in Penny outlasting her. Nemona mentioned taking a break at all but the last research station, while Arven and Penny never made any such comments. She also constantly complains about the stairs at school, and an NPC comments that Nemona's often seen taking a break halfway. This all implies she has terrible stamina despite her sporty looks.
On top of this, when you enter her house, you see that housekeepers are OBSESSED with cleanliness, much more than your average housekeeper would be. Not even a spec of dust is allowed. There's a chance that Nemona's parents are simply neat freaks, but there's a chance that these are precautions to not set off Nemona's illness. Her dorm room is also very neat and tidy, so this shows that a clean environment is important enough to her to preserve even when she's on her own without hired help. For a teenager, especially one as busy as Nemona, to prioritize cleanliness while on their own, there's a good chance she has bigger reasons for keeping things clean. Her lack of stamina plus the need for a spotless environment hint that she might have asthma or a similar respiratory disease.
Another thing to note is that among the countless Pokémon in her house, one of the Pokémon present is a Chansey. Chansey is known to be good at taking care of those who are sick or injured, further hinting that Nemona might be sick.
There's also the fact that, despite having been at the school for at least 1 year prior, she's still in her first year at the academy (she is in your class, 1-A). While it would make sense for Arven or Penny to have to retake a year due to their tendency to skip class (along with Penny's suspension), Nemona is a straight-A student, and the student council president. So there has to be a bigger reason for why she had to retake her first year. She was also at her house at the start of the game instead of in the school dorms despite the fact that you transferred in the middle of the school year. So there's a chance Nemona missed a lot of school due to her illness, had to repeat a year as a result, and was just coming back from a sick leave the day you received your starter.
Unrelated to her potential respiratory illness, but it looks like she also has issues with her right arm. She wears an arm brace, struggles to throw a Poké Ball, is often seen supporting her right arm with her left hand, and seems to wince in pain when terestallizing her Pokémon (lots of trainers wince, but her reaction seems bigger than those of a similar skill level. Most of the trainers who wince are less experienced with battling, while the more experienced trainers don't have much of a reaction). There's a chance that Nemona has some sort of arm injury that affects her ability to use her arm properly.
I like to theorize that Nemona was a sickly child, couldn't play with other children her age due to her illness, eventually took up battling because it was the one sporty activity that she could do with others despite having a weak body, but then became so good at battling that no one wanted to play with her. Essentially, she went from being alone due to her weakness to be alone due to her strength. I believe that she probably hides her illness from the MC because she feels that there's no way someone as strong as the MC, the only person who can match her in battle, would ever accept someone as weak and frail as Nemona really is.

What the hell, this is the first time I've encountered a perfectly reasonable headcanon based on subtle yet numerous and convincing evidence from the games that adds to a character instead of altering it or forcibly making stuff more exciting with time travels and parallel timelines and secret villains or whatever. The ONLY reason why this theory could be doubted, as far as I see, is the out-of-universe fact that GameFreak has just never been this subtle before. Nemona's struggles are already the least obvious, requiring the player to complete her post-game little social route, unlike with Arven and Penny whose struggles were exposited clearly as cornerstones of their respective storylines. So the idea that there's actually another layer to Nemona, hidden even deeper than her lonely-at-the-top conflict, which is already hidden behind the "friendly, almost comic-relief buddy without a care in the world" facade… I love this.
The rumor come out: does Nemona is Wally?

Since this comment is getting more notifications, I just want to add that in a Japanese novel that was released recently (After the Rain With You), it was confirmed that Nemona's arm brace was made by her family's company and actually functions to support her arm and steady her ball throws, so it's not just a fashion statement. This further supports the theory that she might have some actual issues with her right arm, if her father went out of his way to develop an arm brace for her to use.

I don't know how, but you've made my empathy for Nemona grow even more, and she's already my favorite SV character by far
I personally also like to HC her as autistic with a special interest in battling, especially as autistic people can sometimes be more vulnerable to bullying or isolation due to being "the weird kid" through sometimes little to fault of their own (or the "troublemaker," but that archetype doesn't fit Nemona)
Also a hell of a lot of the Nemona hate feels forced. You're playing the game. You've already canonically accepted Nemona as a friend. Selecting "no" repeatedly in the false yes/no question at the beginning of the game is something you have to go out of your way for, and it kills your enjoyment through your own effort, rather than any failing of the game. The series is, by the way, not in any way new to this false yes/no question. If I point out that Platinum does the same thing, I better damn well not hear anyone praise Platinum when they'll shit on Scarlet/Violet so readily.

Hearing about Nemona's feelings in the post game makes her actions during the game make sense. I knew she always wanted to battle us but I was surprised she wasn't challenging us everytime she met up with us (like other rivals) and I thought it was weird, now it make sense she, while still checking out our progress, probably didn't want to scare us away before getting the chance to use her full might against us.
Also I totally thought it was gonna be revealed that Geeta was Nemona's mom or sister at the end.

  • @jonathanshaver5310

Another major factor is the Starfall Street story. Nemona comes across as having only joined the school the previous year - she's a sempai, but she hasn't been around as much as other characters. This is important because, just prior to her attending, Operation Star kicked in, and all the bullies left, and all the Team Star members left. The bullies would have at least given someone for her to fight. And Team Star was basically everyone else that had the motivation and determination to stand up and fight and grow. One of the benefits of school is that it allows kids to meet a variety of other kids and work out socialization and meet peers. But everyone that would have even vaguelly been a peer to her had left right before she arrived, and everyone left was still filling the stress from all of that. Then Nemona pops in, and everyone is wondering if she's a new bully or a new outcast. Its like Nemona was a big basketball fan and wanted to join the team in school (even prepped), but when she got there all of the sports teams had quit and moved away, most of the gyms and equipment are shutdown or torn down, the kids left are pissed because without the sports budget their extracurrecular's have been cut, others are feeling abandoned by their peers, and the most anyone left wants to do is maybe play 15 minutes of streetball.
Worse yet, there's still the sports/battler's prestige. So Nemona, knowing nothing of the previous year, no one willing to talk about it, barrels forth and becomes a Champion.... and then realizes no one was running with her. And then she's given the Class/School President position, because she's the Champion. But she's aware enough to realize that no one else was going for it. From what NPCs said, Giacumo was a VERY popular kid, and was popular as the School President up until he went rules-crazy trying to smooth out the various issues in school. Nemona has big shoes to fill, no support structure in the school of fellow students, the older students have been burned by the previous leaders, and no one is willing to explain any of this to her. Shoot - Clavell had to get Clive to get to the bottom of what happened previously so the school can get back to rights.
So here's Nemona, her first year at the school she made her personal goal (Champion-ranked battler), and had pretty much every other facet of her school life fail. New year rolls around, the MC arrives with the new students, and Nemona realizes that they're not shadowed by whatever has happened to the rest of the school. So she's desperately trying to have her fantasy school life with the MC that she missed out on her first year. At least partially because you're actually acting normal with her.
And then, as others here have mentioned, there is her holding her right arm, commenting/complaining about having issues throwing the ball, getting out of breath in Area Zero - Nemona might have initially been planned to have health issues before that was cut. Still, no confirmation yet either way.

Poor Nemona. She has been memed to death about her battle obsession, if anything the judgement she receives from in game characters has been reflected by IRL players.
She likely became obsessed with battling/befriending us as we wouldn't have any preconceived notions about her as the "gifted, spoiled princess" and instead give her an opportunity to start anew, as we could make our own judgements without the outside influences.
All she wanted was a true, genuine friend, for someone to just see her for who she is as a person.

Pokemon fandom has always had a problem of "if a rival's not mean, they're stupid and worthless and we hate them", so Nemona was naturally going to get flak for being cheerful. But she suffers from Tall Poppy Syndrome in a way - people don't actively want to bring her down a peg, but the passive "you're just a rich girl with too much talent" treatment is just as hurtful and damaging. Her problems may not be as immediately obvious as Penny's, Arven's, or the version-exclusive professors, but when you've been an outcast and you finally make a friend, you tend to latch onto them.

I love the thought of how much Nemona would most likely THRIVE in a region like Galar, where Pokémon battling is more central to their culture. Honestly, Nemona reminds me of people who are ND and have a special interest they hyper-focus on. How it can be so hard to find someone who shares that same amount of passion and often results in scaring people away when the infodumping becomes too much.
I relate. Someone once outright told me that I have a way of ruining a series when I talk about it so much. Or how people would eventually tell me to just shut up or would start to ignore me or tell me to grow up.
So when I find someone who is just as passionate about the subject, I basically cling to them. I can't help it. I finally have someone with the same hyper-fixation, the same special interest. We can discuss it at length and never get bored or tired or fear we are going to drive someone away because we are the same way about it. We can share fanart and headcanons and link to our fanworks and everything of the sort and give each other ideas and go on for hours about it. We can infodump without being judged or told to shut up.
That must be how Nemona feels with the player character. While she is the one who helps nurture and encourage it, it's still very freeing for her she has someone she can battle with without holding back (by the end of it) and how that person has started feeling the same passion to the point lengthy battle sessions are normal. And how the player doesn't just see her as some pampered princess or genius prodigy because the player gets to see for themselves how Nemona raises her team alongside to meet strength as equals. Even if she is more experienced as a trainer, that is more the technical stuff. But her team itself? Needs to be trained up to be able to stand against your team, just as your team needs to be trained up to meet with every battle you go through.

She is so, SO neurodivergent and I really deeply want to know exactly what brand(s).
Like... I'm both autistic and ADHD, and have tons of friends who are either or both as well, and I can definitely see her battling as a deep special interest and see some other traits that line up, sure. But just. Holy shit. I'm not sure either of those possibilities quite cover it? I know autism is a spectrum and that some people have much more severe struggles in some areas than others, but I can't help but wonder if she's "just" a very extreme case or if there's something less well-known going on with her.
(This, for the record, not coming from a place of judgment or otherizing, but from being ND myself in even more than those two listed ways, having a lowkey special interest in researching these things, and loving to understand more both for the sake of being able to help support real people and for being able to better represent more mental health diversity in writing I do. Just felt that was worth clarifying, since I know not everyone would be approaching this in such good faith. That said, moving on to symptoms-)
There are two big trends heavily on display pretty constantly, but especially during the Area Zero story.
First is that she is "fearless" to a point of like... No. REALLY. Clearly she has some fears of things like scaring people away that drive her, but she _does not seem to have_ anything close to a functional sense of self-preservation when it comes to physical dangers. When she _should_ be shaken, she either doesn't register anything is wrong or she gets _excited._ She processes a lot of emotions "incorrectly" in a way, consistently, and the others call attention to it.
And then the other thing that overlaps with the first in its most glaring instance is that "socially awkward" grossly undersells it. She has no idea what's going on emotionally around her basically ever _and it isn't for lack of trying._ When we all get down to the ground, Arven assumes -raidon is shaken by the big jump from so high, but after it's refused to leave its ball for so long, Arven and Penny start realizing that probably wasn't what spooked it; Nemona had not remotely questioned it since we landed. She's generally oblivious in a lot of reactions throughout the game, but then when the confrontation happens between the two -raidon, she DOESN'T REALIZE ANYTHING IS WRONG.
She can't recognize our buddy is terrified or that the other one is extremely aggressive, can't pick up the tension, and actively didn't realize that anything about this _didn't_ fit the expected outcome of touching family reunion. She not only didn't realize it was bad, but didn't even recognize that it wasn't _good._ And the heartbreaking thing that drove this home was when Arven and Penny snap at her and explain in direct words, she's shocked and horrified. She genuinely didn't understand but absolutely did care what was happening. She _wanted_ to be supportive and understanding, and is just THAT bad at recognizing emotional responses.
Just... MAN... I know autistic folks can have unusual responses to things and struggle with social empathy, and I know my own experiences can't be used as a universal metric, and even as many friends as I've talked to about their experiences it won't tell me everything that's possible. But I'm still just... God I want to know if this level of intensity for those symptoms can be explained via autism or if there's something more specific going on with her (probably on top of still also being autistic and/or ADHD, but still, heh).
Either way, she's such a good baby and I love her. 🥺

@Mandiness Entertainment as someone who wears a compression brace to help with a childhood injury I can definitely see that being a thing. I wouldn't be surprised if the implied benched pokemon she had to box to use her starter included pokemon with mobility aid training to get her form place to place like a cyclizar or maybe something that can climb or fly, not for lack of want to use her own feet since she's very athletic but because sometimes you just need that help and trying to push yourself would do kothing but aggravate a preexisting injury further.

I always seen Nemona as a very relatable character. Before I was able to play online against others. Myself, a few friends and 3 of my cousins would play together between gen 2-4. It was fun but my one friend was my only challenge. I learned about EV's and IV's, setting myself well beyond my friend. I taught him but shortly after moved on with life and that left me at the top with some capped pokemon.
It did feel pretty lonely. I wanted to mentor one of my cousins to be better than me. I really just wanted to feel that sting of a loss... nothing really new to strive for until X and Y when I started battling online.

This may be why the other champions do something besides being champion
Blue's a gym leader, Lance and Iris are dragon tamers, Steven's a geologist, Wallace's a competitor, Cynthia's an archaeologist, Alder's a Hokage (I guess?), Diantha's an actress, and Leon's an entertainer

One of the most brilliant things that people overlook about Nemona's storytelling is her team. When you attain Champion Rank and everyone's making a big deal about you battling Nemona at her full strength, does she change her team to whatever she used to get champion rank? No, she uses the same team members she's been battling you with the rest of the game, strongly implying that even without battling at a Champion-rank level, you've already made her better.

I understand now lonely it is when nobody likes the things you do, it's frustrating. The second you find someone who likes those things, you could talk to them for hours and hours... Yeah. Even down to being called a "whiz" (although I'm much better at school work than anything physical) it's so frustrating to be called smart, or powerful ALL THE TIME, especially if you don't feel that way. Like, you're not stupid, but genius? No way.
It's easy to feel like an outcast, if nobody wants to talk to you at all, whether it be because they feel like you're too good for them, or the even worse alternative, that they're too good to talk to you. Then, when you finally find someone willing to put up with you, it's easy to seem really clingy. That's probably why I never found Nemoma creepy, or odd. When we knew very little about the characters, I was waiting for Nemona to turn out to be a ghost/spirit helping us on our journey. Let me explain.
First, her name. Backwards it's "an omen". It also contains "Nemo", which basically means "nothing" or "no one".
If you go off the Japanese name, it's a flower nicknamed the "baby blue". She has nothing "blue" on her(eyes, hair, clothes). I was thinking the brace on her arm was from an accident, maybe how she died. Her hair has the green part, in this case green has to deal with the present. Also, maybe she had an accident while riding a cyclizar.
So my thought was something like this:
You two are friends riding cyclizars when something causes you two to crash. Wacky stuff happens and you find Nemona wearing a brace and her hair green, thinking that's all that happened to her. 100 different ways you could do it. Would have made her much more of an interesting character.

There's another detail about Nemona that I don't see people touch upon too much, or if they do, they just use it as another slight against her character. That being the scene where she mistakes our Koraidon/Miraidon being faced with its more aggressive counterpart as a family reunion, not realizing that the former was being intimidated and bullied. Part of it could just be her lack of social skills, but another part could lie within just how deep into Pokemon battling she really is.
When she saw these two Pokemon have this confrontation, she didn't think anything of it, because Pokemon fighting each other is so normalized in her eyes. Not to mention, since Koraidon/Miraidon is a legendary Pokemon (which tend to be unique catches in each game cartridge), of course she'd be excited for their sake at the prospect of them meeting another one of its species.
On top of that, all throughout Paldea, you see groups of wild Pokemon typically led by a higher-evolved form, so it's not at all unusual for there to be an "alpha" who expresses dominance. Hell, the entire evolution process for Bisharp into Kingambit involves it fighting and defeating other leader Bisharp in battle, so she may have just thought of it as just "Pokemon being Pokemon."

So it could be that it's a back and forth, sometimes the MC wins and sometimes her.

@@TechnoArpan so basically, what a lot of people don’t know, is that a Mary Sue can actually also be a character where a majority of other characters hate. A Mary Sue in the basis outside of personality and relationships, would be some examples with Nemona being hated by others, people seemingly to constantly shit on her for being more wealthy than the other students, and the fact that like Penny and Arven, their stories are tragic and/or are meant to define the characters, which is often a Mary Sue trope (when authors make the characters backstory the sole reason they are the way they are and often refuse to see their own faults)
You can look up lots of google articles on it, and why Mary Sue would apply to Nemona in some ways. I only listed a few examples, and if I could provide more I would if I had them off the top of my head :))

Technically, Mary Sue is a term referring to someone who just gets 'everything' right WITHOUT TRYING or WITHOUT EARNING power.
When you notice the subtle behaviors from Nemona, she is not just handed the title of champion... People remember her as a battle-holic, and other champions note that she is determined. Mary Sue honestly belongs to the MC... In almost every game, you canonically win every fight. You literally retry until you succeed. That is Mario infinite resurrection bullshit.
Nemona is powerful but has flaws- literally, all the best would be rivals left before she got there... In comparison to the Team Star leaders, Eri was more challenging in my opinion. However, Nemona has an evolving roster to a degree- the more you fight her the tougher she becomes. I literally glass cannoned to beat her with Lucario.
Point of all this is, she is a worthy opponent as you progress, and neither overconfident nor petty. Few pokemon rivals can claim that without bullet sponging.
Mary Sue is someone like REY from sw ,(squeqwell); rey literally masters force abilities on the first try or just by hearing them described.
Another example, this from katanagatari: his sister memorizes techniques by observing them, while the boy who is a sword must be guided and trains CONSTANTLY just to squeak through on several occasions.
Cartman, captain MARVEL, Superman (newer), she hulk (new flop), etc.
"My sword has infinity plus two damage and my shield is unbreakable.".
      VS
"I worked long and hard for
      My bread honor and riches...
But you tread on my corns too long
      -You long-haired sons of bitches"

She's the push that most trainers need. Or at least those who are strong-willed enough to fight someone who already was at the top of the food chain but chooses to push us to become stronger, like her.
I don't find her creepy, yandere, or what have you. Most people are off put by her mentality of "combat prowess" mindset, as I call it.
Arven and Penny, are pretty much in the same league as her, but, more inclined to do something different, when compared to her. Arven can cook, and Penny is a technological genius.
To put this as simply. Nemona has her reasons to be who she is. But it is we, the trainers, who can hold our own, and be pushed just as much to become stronger, and be what Nemona wants to be pushed to.

I’m glad you were able to shed some light into this, since that tiny snippet of dialogue in Area Zero flew way over my head over all the random Paradox Pokemon spawn, and I never bothered with the optional school dialogue.
Man, imagine if she and Penny switched roles (story-wise and NOT personality wise, I DO NOT need an obsessive Penny). That would’ve been more compelling for me.

Yeah, there is no treasure unless you have someone who claimed that same treasure alongside you... but this may sound corny. The true treasure is the friends we all made and the goals we accomplished together. Helping Penny reconnect with team star, Arven with his best friend Mabostiff, and Giving Nemona the one thing she didn't know she needed, a friend and rival who sees her for who she is. And the cover legendary(Koraidon or Miraidon)who needed help overcoming thier rival and bonding with them to help them regain their physical strength as well as the determination to Face your fear when the time came.

yesss thank you! i love nemona so much she’s got those gifted kid struggles which always make for a good character imo. and she’s seriously just being friendly, not creepy!
one other little detail that i picked up on while playing is the scene where arven recalls how he and mabosstiff were attacked by a huge monster, and nemona’s immediate first reaction is to hope the gang runs into it again because her curiosity has been piqued. to which arven and penny respond by getting annoyed with her for being single-minded and insensitive to arven’s pain. i personally thought this spoke volumes about nemona’s character. like you said, it’s all about that disconnect between her and other people- she’s immensely socially oblivious. she wasn’t trying to hurt arven but she got so carried away with her own interests that she got tunnel vision for a moment. and honestly i think that’s another recurring theme here- nemona is quite self-serving. almost everything she does, even if she’s helping others, is ultimately because she wants something for herself and less because she’s in tune with how other people feel. i think that’s a solid character flaw and very realistic and well written
but going off of this, i also noticed another moment towards the end that hinted to some subtle development on her end. when the door to the zero lab opens and all the paradox pokémon start flooding out, the gang tries battling them but is overwhelmed. some of them take off in the direction of heading back up the crater. nemona is concerned and wants to stop them from running off, to which penny’s response is basically to call her crazy and imply that she’s just hungry for a powerful pokémon to battle. that was my first reaction as well. but then nemona follows up by pointing out that if those pokémon escape the crater, all of paldea will be in danger. in this moment nemona is genuinely concerned with something that isn’t even about her. for once she’s grounded, in the moment, finally understanding the gravity of the situation here, finally afraid instead of ridiculously confident and excited. this bit is so easy to miss but it’s so important to me. the terrifying area zero adventure taught her a few lessons, y’know?

Most do have other hobbies and seem so glad to be rid of the title or at least glad to share it with you when you win so they aren't alone. Nemona expressing she feels like she has to hold back just to keep friends hurts.
In the anime, Cynthia almost retired but decided to keep going after all after losing to Ash. After all, that loss meant she still had room to grow.
Leon told Ash that he felt stuck, like he had finished growing and it scared him. It was seeing Ash that helped motivate him again to try to find a new peak.
And Ash was still left thinking “what’s next?” after becoming Champion as he tried to consider what was to come in his journey to be a Pokémon Master. He knew being Champion wasn’t the end of it, but what else was he out to do?

All three rivals in SV are personally relatable in different ways.
Nemona is the most socially relatable, as I faced similar levels of ostracision not just by peers, but by teachers as well, leaving me hopelessly alienated simply for being on a different wavelength, and the aftereffects haven’t gone away years later.
It sucks that I have yet to truly sync with others, and everyone else I knew while growing up has been able to find some fulfilling purpose in their lives, while I’m left stuck and drifting aimlessly with no clear path in sight.
It’s no wonder this game always leaves me in tears the instant the credits roll… 😭

Nimona whole pint of frustration after the guy calls her a wizard is generally how I feel about my brother and not wanting to play Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh with, it doesn't just come that naturally to me I do spend time looking into the game mechanics and how type matchups work how certain cards interact and stuff I don't just haphazardly dot-dot don't bore into this or something but I actually research and study and junk, which is probably why that stood out to me as much as it did.

I have always thought that Nemona had pretty bad ADHD and looking through her scenes it just makes them make more sense, with her hyper fixation on pokemon battling, her boundless energy and getting a one-track mind on a lot of stuff. And it would also make sense that she grows so attached to the player because they're the one person she can truly be herself around without having to mask her neurodivergence. and its also somewhat implied that her parents are neglectful which also makes sense looking at the ADHD theory since they don't really know what to do with her since she's not "normal" and just throw money at her. Just a small thing really deepens her character.

This is why Nemona is my favorite rival. I truly liked her character long before I even knew her background. This lore of hers is what got me more attached to her character, no different than Penny or Arven. While the game was, and still is, a buggy mess; the story is one of the best I've ever experienced. The themes aren't on full display like most of the game's. These characters feel more relatable. There are those that came before, with a sense of depth to the lore behind their names, but SV goes beyond that and, at least to me, feels far more human than the other characters. Even when the first time I got to know her was through her memes, I thought there was something else going on. She felt clingy in a good way, and this proved it and more. Maybe people would see Nemona in a different way after this.... I believe that she is the best rival, maybe not in terms of Pokémon battles, but definitely in her lore.

When you start out in the game, Nemona says she'll train a new team alongside you and then use her real team after you become a champion. Then, after you become a champion, she continues only using pokemon from the new team and none of her "previous" pokemon, even in the tournament arc. Also, when she talks about her loneliness as mentioned in the video, her re-telling of how she became a champion further emphasizes that she's gifted since "it just kinda happened". No one who has put real effort into something can make a comment like that. Red is respectable because of his lack of dialogue in the games. By the time you've reached him, you already know he's the strongest because you had to get through the elite four and 16 gyms to gain access to him. On top of Nemona berating you for a battle every time she sees you, she also won't take "no" for an answer. I don't care what her reasonings are for doing what she does. She has the tendencies of a battle-obsessed psychopath.

  • @frostlone925
    @frostlone925 Год назад +2

She didn't need that much development in game because from the start she was already at the top, and she's not one to open up that much even though she's an extrovert, talking to people and talking about how you feel are different things entirely, so until the end of the game, she does come off as pretty flat, I guess, but that would just be incoherent if a character that wants to battle again and again to forget the loneliness and boredom felt the need to brag about being lonely and bored, it would defeat the point of her own coping mechanism.
So, I really liked the way they hammered in the reason why she has been so obsessed.
First, Geeta noting that Nemona never showed her true strength to her and mentioning that the mc might be the first person she even opens up to, then, Nemona straight up shouting in relief "Finally, I could give my all, and still you beat me."
She started far before us, we didn't need to see her journey to guess that where she is now is the top, and her saying that should be to us the realization that she reached a point where, until us, there was no one she could give her all against, because anyone else was just too weak.
If after the post game where she finally opens up people playing the game still don't get her, this is sad.

This was a really interesting watch, loved how you broke down the character and analyzed her. I'll admit that when playing SV at first, the stories for Arven & Penny felt more compelling to me, as they were very straight-forward.
But during my play with the SV's DLCs, it's when I began looking back at Nemona's story closely. And that's because I felt that Kieran's story runs similar parallels to Nemona's in some aspects but deviate.
In the sense, where Nemona while enjoying and being passionate bout battling doesn't loses her fun for it. Genuinely looks in building relationships with others folks. Meanwhile Kieran overly obsesses with becoming "stronger" due to the lack of his identity (there's also the fact that the game might be hinting that their orphans)... That and his selfloath drives him into a destructive path.
Would be interesting to see your input on the Kitakami siblings- but I'm glad I saw this video of Nemona! It's given me more insight and appreciate more the character and the story being told in SV. The DLC's has added more to her; I enjoy seeing her wanting everyone to do their best but also offers support- and encouraging words to her friends.
Also, appreciate the insight on Red's character! It's something that I feel a lot of ppl kinda sleep-on or don't give much thought.
