    Outstanding! After hours of watching/reading, finally a video that's right on the mark. After hacking curves and switches to get the correct flight mode sequence for an old IRIS+, I was fortunate and found this source. BTW: the setup described works perfectly! TU Mr. Painless.

    THANK you for your series on the Pixhawk. I've flown minis for over a year, setup a Naza Lite with some help but I was at a total loss of where to start with this one. Your videos were easy to follow for setting up (haven't done tuning, etc yet, but it's a blizzard here lol). I did make one mistake with the Taranis, so I thought I would mention it in case someone else finds themselves a moron as well, lol. I got the inputs/mixer wrong from your first video. I must have missed setting up TAER on inputs and set both inputs and mixer AETR. Which was causing me to flip. Of course I had to pull all apart to make sure motor order was right, etc, but after that I realized it had to be radio, which it was, test flight in my basement proved it :) But seriously, thank you for such detailed videos. I know where I'm looking for help in the future! Keep up the great work.

    I have a Turnigy i10 and it’s a pain setting up the modes on the controller, but I now use a 3dr telemetry system hooked up to my phone and use the tower app on my android to get all the possible modes available. Works like a charm

    Great video you have been a lot of help. I was setting up the QX7 and I found that on the sound files it would only accept 6 letters max in the name so I had to go into the radio and shorten the name of the sound file to get some of them to work.

    Great video, series of videos and channel!! Have followed for years and rarely, if not, had any questions due to the clarity of each and every video. I do have one question on this video. When setting up your Taranis you have inputs 1 - 4 set at TAER and then set the mixes channels 1-4 set to AETR. When creating a new model on my Taranis, the inputs 1-4 are set by default to AETR and then it follow that the channels 1-4 are set at AETR as well. Does it matter what initial inputs settings should be or does it not matter, as long as the mixes channels 1-4 are AETR? Awesome channel !! Keep up the excellent work. I truly don't know where I would be or how difficult things would get without Painless360 !!!

    I just dusted off my hexacopter (with Pixhawk 1) and found your Pixhawk series...awesome BTW. Does your 3 year old info still hold true for today's versions of Arducopter, Mission Planner, and OpenTX? Also, being new to OpenTX, you lost me when you were talking about adding the sound. Do you have a video with more detail on that? Why did the sound have to be first on the Special Functions list? Also, where do I get the sound files?

    is there a way to have the modes on the 6 position switch reversed? so for example starting in the far left is position one and going clockwise to the right is position 6
    also is there a way to create a delay on the 6 position switch so that the voice activation isnt triggered on every position move?
    thanks

    Hi,
    Love the Video. Followed all directions and uploaded the info to my Taranis went through mission planner. My problem is the copter will not arm with my new program.
    It armed with a previous program but I had stability problems just not good flight.
    Any suggestions to look for that may be causing it not to arm in mission planner.
    Of course will not arm when battery connected.
    Thank you,

    nicely detailed explanation; here's a question for you that I can't find elsewhere. I have my 6 modes on two switches on a Taranis, and all works well according to this instruction. But in between switch positions, my radio outputs 100% (which incidentally happens to be "throw" mode at the moment); AP throws a mavlink error that I pick up on my telemetry, that we can't change to throw mode. How can I get the radio to continue to output the current/previous value until the new switch position is obtained, rather than going to 100% in between switch changes? I have tried putting the delay on the logical switches, but it does not work properly--the value still changes to 100% temporarily, then switches to the new value after the delay. thanks!

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  3 года назад

      You can add a delay of 0.1-0.2 seconds to the mode channel on the radio to help avoid that. Best of luck

    Hi there, Im new to Taranis and followed your video to the letter (must have done something wrong though haha) i was following the how to for 2x switches setup parts. i got it all set up, plugged the pix hawk 2 into mission planner but "SF" doesn't seem to be doing anything. "SE" is flicking through 3 modes skipping one at a time. do you have any suggestions as to what might be the problem and how i could fix it? anything would be a huge help. thanks :-) and great tutorials you are doing by the way, thanks.

    I really like this video and I'm learning a great deal from your channel.
    Could you explain how to setup an "Oh Dear"/Fail-Safe switch when using the two position switch and three position switch so I don't have use both SF and SE together in order to get to a Fail-Safe? You showed how to do it with the 6 position Pot, but by using the 2 switch method. I was hoping to have a 3ed switch that was just dedicated to RTL only and would override SE and SF.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      +William Wegenast Yes you can, set it up as one of the first switches to override the mode channel vale to the level needed for RTH. Make sure it's towards the top of the list as the radio runs the 'program' in orderBest of luck.

      I thought I got it working, but then I realized my new RTL switch keeps influencing the other Fmodes. A bit confused. My flight modes are on [SE] & [SF], my RTL switch is on [SG]. but for some strange reason the RTL will change the values on the Fmode switch. Fmode is on OverRide Ch6, new RTL switch is on OverRide Ch5.
      Any advice?

    Thank you for the 2 switches setup. But I have a problem. To go from position 3 to position 4, I must "pass" through 2 modes that I will not. So I added a delay of 0.5 s to each logical switches . But during this period, the "active" mode is not held until the "new mode" . It's the same with flight modes. During the delay of 0.5 s., the flight mode 0 is activated by default. Do you have an idea for the active flight mode is maintained during the time that I change to another mode ?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      You need to organise the modes in Mission Planner so that you can get to the modes you use the most easily. You can also setup modes on switches too.
      Best of luck.

      @@Painless360I found the problem ...when i clicked on the copter v4.0.7 OFFICIAL on the Quadcopter picture it loaded and says in the top right corner box COM1-1-OCTOROTOR and not quadcopter. So i tried reprogramming with the right quadcopter software but it wouldn't change even after erasing the sd card and resetting the pixhawk . So tried it another FC my new CUAV v5 nano and same thing... so why does all the different copter types in Install Firmware say the same 4.0.7 Official? I tried to install Firmware Legacy firmware and it looked like it worked but once i connected it went back to COM1-1-OCTOROTOR. Think i finally bricked both boards. A while back i built the 3Dr y6 and that went smoothly with no problems , still fly's great but don't think i'll be updating that one. OH and a ZOHD Dart XL with 3dr's pixhawk mini.& Dji fpv system and that fly's great. Thanks for the great videos i really enjoy them.

    What about when you rebind the receiver you save the switch into rtl, so when your transmitter turns off or loose connection, the receiver will output the switch which was set on rtl? But does the throttle have to be in the middle? You make excellent videos.

    I have a FrSky X9D + 2019 SE. Using a Pixhawk. 2 Switches (F&E) for flight modes. Regarding flight modes: My radio of course starts with FM 0, the Arducopter Flight Mode setup starts at 1 on their list in
    Mission Planner. I have the switches all working, and on the radio it shows FM 0 - FM 5, MP is FM 1-6. So, FM 0 on the radio is FM 1 in MP and sets it in Stabilize. I suspect this is just a bit incorrect as I probably need FM 0 to be nothing, normal, etc and then FM 1 should be Stabilize and the pattern would be Flight Modes 1-6 instead of 0-5 in the radio. When both switches are in the normal position (I call them down but it's the up arrow) it shouldn't be in a flight mode. I'd like a normal, none no mode when the switches are normal and still have 6 flights modes starting with Stabilize from those switched. AM I thinking straight on this? How might I get 6 flight modes from my 2 switches and have normal in the 0 on the radio???

    Old DJI F450 rebuild with old Pixhakw 2.4.3 (or 2.3.4, not at hand right now) setup with SG/SE switches for FM...and SA for Autotune.
    A common setup for most of my planes is to have al switched flipped up, and so FM was in Stab mode, but allas, AUTOTUNE was also on by default!
    Giving weird behaviour, mainly flipping over richt after spinning up. *bangs head*

I am new to the new radios I've been using an old 37MHz futuba and have just ordered a 9xr pro in retrospect I should have got the tranas anyway when looking to setup the curve for the 6 position switch the eepe software from what I can see only allows for 5 or 9 position curves. I have done a lot of Google searching but can't seem to find anything about how this. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

    hi, i did exactly what you did, but the "oh dear" switch dois not override channel 5, it wil play the track that its in return to launch but the channel value on channel 5 stays as the switches stand to determent the flight mode, its like the logical switches ore prioretised to the special function to override the modes channel when panic switch it down...

      jelle buyckx Please watch the videos in the Taranis series on the channel - they go into far more detail than I had time for here. I suggest the simple throttle cut video is a great place to look..Best of luck with it.

      @ikkebuyckx 9 лет назад

      Painless360 I did already... thats not the problem. in this vid u program L1 L2 L3 L4 L5 and L6 to override channel 5 to get all 6 of the flight modes on the pixhawk, and then assign a other switch as a "panic switch" alsow overiding channel 5 to get RTL active so you dont need to seek for it in the possisions of the intital F Mode switch, but if u do it dois not work, it takes the value of the F Mode switch, not of the "panic switch" couse of 2 conflicting special functions...
      Dont mind, ill just set my panic switch on ch 7 an set it up in missionplanner.

    I've tried this again and again and again.
    I'm using the Taranis Plus with 2.0.92. I can only get it to work by OverRiding Ch1 in Special Functions. Overriding Ch5 doesn't change the PWM signal. Very frustrating.
    then I can't get the RTL to work on a separate switch. I've followed this many times and the results are always the same. Am I missing something somewhere? Pulling my hair out.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад +1

      Be careful of the order as it looks at them from the top down so the ones at the top get turned on first..
      I think you are using a different version of OpenTX too.
      Best of luck with it!

      The order in inputs and mixes is fine and the way you did it.
      However in Special Functions, there is no PWM, it stays at 1500, unless "OverRide CH1" is selected, then the PWM signal is perfect, but as I said I have to select "OverRide CH1". If I choose "OverRide CH5 or any other channel there is no PWM change on the Servo screen. Everything else works just fine. It scares me because I understood when you said the Pix looks at the order of things.
      I'm using the version of OpenTx that came with the Radio. 2.0.9.2.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      The radio doesn't normally come with OpenTX. See the first video for how I updated mine here.
      If you're not using OpenTX then the instructions will not work in the same way. Normally the radio will announce an OpenTX logo on start-up if you have it and you can see the detail in the Firmware menu.
      Best of luck.

      The VERSON screen reads the following.

    So what about getting mavlink telemitry over the frsky telemtry protocol. There is several projects active doing this. One that I've got to work (sort of) is in the link below. However there are other similar branches (projects) and it's very confusing which ones are usefull for what, and which ones work with the different versions of arducopter and the different openpilot firmwares. I haven't been able to sort out the best ones, or how to get these up and going. I think a video on this clarifying these projects would be fantastic! The link below also links to the other similar projects.

    • @DavidSmithwv
      @DavidSmithwv 9 лет назад

      Painless360 Thats great new! FYI I do believe the newest arducopter supports frsky telemetry natively now, but it requires some cable inversion, and they are concerns over cpu capability on the pixhawk... (which I don't think is available for the older APM now)... again confusion here!

    I don't know why you are talking about adding a 6 mode switch since there are already enough switches for everything or why you needed to use Open TX at all. Aren't you just making it more complicated than necessary? In Qgroundcontrol all I had to do was enable the additional switches past the first 4 in the radio's settings for everything to work since just the sticks came setup from the factory. At least it seems to work OK in the program, I've never actually got as far as trying to arm it in order to fly because there are always other problems.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад +2

      +Steve C Remember that not everyone find the same things make sense to them, so something you feel is 'complicated' to others feels far more natural and vice-versa. If you're happy with the switches and that makes sense to you then use that method. The power of this radio is that it does present choices and allows pilots to use the method that they like.I prefer the 6 position switch, others like the switch combo that's why I've shown both in the video series.Happy flying!
