      He is awesome. It's hard to believe Zenyatta was larger than him and most other in history at 17.2 hands and over 1200 lbs. Of course she's not in Secretariat's league. She was massive even if she were a Colt. I think she was overrated, but a great horse. . Hope her fans don't see this. Lol

    I got to see secretariat and pet him as a young boy he was at s farm in kentucky, I didnt know then exactly what a privilege it was to be petting such an icon. I think back to that moment and realize I have done something that millions of people would have loved to have done and I then realized I was blessed to have had that moment that I will never forget.. Thank You Secretariat......

    I was in Germany (U.S. Army) when he won the Triple Crown. Our day room (with one TV) was half full at Kentucky Derby day. It was packed at Preakness day. Our CO brought in a bigger TV and placed it in our dining hall for the Belmont - it was standing room only. Halfway through the Belmont, the hall was rocking and shook like an earthquake, everybody were screaming. I'll never forget that day, everyone were hi-fiving and hugging everyone..he brought us all together as one that day//

Even today, in my 70's, I watch these videos mainly because Secretariat was such a fantastic horse. That horse showed me how to keep going as a human. Yes, he's been gone for many years, but he's such an inspiration to people today. If a horse can do it, we, as people can look to Him for inspiration. He will always be close to my heart.

    Ron Turcotte is an incredibly humble guy. Eddie Sweat did not get the credit he deserved. What a team. Amazing. I was just starting out in the Navy in 1989 and was at sea with my squadron when the CO of CV-67 came over the 1MC and announced that Secretariat had died. Secretariat was always my favorite horse so it was with great pleasure to watch him win the triple crown in 1973. I absolutely went crazy watching him win the triple crown. My family thought I had lost my mind! One item on my bucket list of living life was to own an Arabian horse. By far the most beautiful animal on this earth. My dream came true in 1992 when I bought a pregnant mare. In May of 1993, I watched as she gave birth to a chestnut colt. And imagine my surprise and delight when I saw he had three white stockings, on the same legs as Secretariat! I named him Pharo after his Dad, el Pharoah. I gentle trained him, when I mounted him for the first time he didnt even try to buck me off! and I rode him a lot. He had a choppy trot and he couldn't run for diddly squat but I didnt care I owned a horse that was marked like Secretariant! I think he was the love of my life. RIP my Pharo.😢 you will always be in my heart.

      A lot of us were with our dad's at Belmont the day Secretariat raced the greatest race ever run. My father hung out an hour after the last race to let the traffic clear out, and me being a 12 year old kid in love with Secretariat picked up all the pristine programs off the floor and took them home and put about 20 in a box. About 15 years ago, I saw how much they were selling for and went to my parents where the box was in the attic only to find out my father had tossed the box out when putting a new floor in.....when I told him the programs values, he said "If that's the worst thing that happens to you in life, you're doing okay"...lol....he passed away in 2017 at 92, and when he got really sick, we talked a lot about our trips to the track on weekends and the great times, win or lose....when we lost it was "Pizza again", but when we won, we would go through Little Italy and get calamari or scungilli at Vincents on Mott and Hester.....medium hot sauce because the hot would make a bull run across a field. lol......great memories driving to the tracks, coming home, and of course, being there. And the tops was always the 73 Belmont Stakes....

    I was fortunate enough to see all 3 races of the 1973 Triple Crown on TV as a nine year old girl in Wyoming. My sister and I were literally jumping up and down and screaming for him to win and deliriously happy when he did. It occurs to me that both Secretariat and Seabiscuit came at times in our history when we as a nation were depressed, divided and not doing very well. Seabiscuit bounded on to the scene during the traumas of the Great Depression, and Secretariat showed up in all his glory as Watergate and Vietnam were tearing the country apart. I think they were both gifts from God, sent to bring us together and remind us of the meaning of awe.

    I watched a study on public television a long time ago in which scientists were analyzing why certain horses ran fast.
    The study could have been called the “Life and Times of Secretariat,” because he dominated the entire study.
    At the end of the study, one of the scientists did an interview at Claiborne Farm and gushed about Secretariat, while Secretariat ran wild in the background.
    The scientist ended the interview by saying that Secretariat was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen.
    Furthermore, I remember reading about a limousine that stopped in the front Claiborne Farm and this beautiful young female stepped out of the limousine and informed one of the employees that she wanted to see Secretariat.
    The employee motioned to the pasture behind them and informed her that was Secretariat running wild.
    The beautiful young female stood transfixed and watched Secretariat for about 30 minutes.
    The employee finally asked her if she wanted to see any other horses.
    She answered “no, thank you” and went back into her limousine and drove away.
    While Secretariat was alive, 10,000 people visited Claiborne Farm annually, and every one of them wanted to see Secretariat, even though many other great horses were there, too.

      "Just one more thing" does Columbo put the carnations there?

    • @WickedFelina
      @WickedFelina 2 года назад

      Yes, it is the blanket of carnations that was draped over him on June 6, 1973. Every year prior to the race everyone is fully aware, he has already won. ....and, one more thing even Greater still. every year, no matter if another horse won all 3, Secretariat again, wins the Triple Crown. Why? To this day he out runs every horse, every race because he still holds all three records.
      This year in the Kentucky Derby, the speed colts ran, as they put it "Blistering Hot fractions!" The final time was 2:02.61. Secretariat's final time was 1:59 & 2 5ths. Forensically, if timed today under the "NEW" system (which is 1/100th of a second instead of 5ths - which is
      .20 of a second) the possibility of Secretariat's, final time is pretty high that it was faster.
      Why? Under the old time, when you hit the 5th (or .20 of a second) one 100's over that 5th, the time clocks up to the next 5th which would be would be .40.
      Secretariat's time today could be 1:59.21. Therefore, his record could be beaten simply because of the change from fifths to 100ths, and only by one one hundredths of a second.

    This Kentucky Derby was one long relentless drive by Secretariat. It's considered the best KD performance in TC history, and not just because he broke the 2:00 min. mark. Turcotte split the two horses in front him from behind. Then Turcotte pulled on right rein and took him to the outside in a crowded field. From that point, without pushing him at all, Secretariat began that drive, going faster and faster passing the remaining ten horses, each 1/4 mile faster than the previous one instead of slowing or tiring at all. At the point in the video with the widest gap with 4 or 5 horses in front of him, Turcotte wondered if Secretariat would be able to keep this up. Well, he did, finishing the last 1/4 mile in 23 sec FLAT. Never before had this been done, EACH 1/4 FASTER while driving fm the outside 3 or 4 wide in a 1 1/4 race.

      Secretariat was amazing, I firmly believe that his jockey Ron Turcotte, (who never takes credit for Secretariat's wins) was the best jockey ever, especially for Secretariat. He rode him humanely, not cropping him to death, just hand ridden. I believe that says a lot about the horse and the jockey!

    • @whatevergoesforme5129
      @whatevergoesforme5129 6 лет назад +5

      Turcotte did push some horses beyond their limits just like any jockey and was reputed to push harder than other jockeys. It just so happened that Secretarial was a freak of nature and was the perfect horse with a massive heart that wouldn't burst unlike one of the horses Turcotte pushed. Turcotte knew that he was riding a superb and intelligent horse so he could not really take the credit himself.

      One of the vets from the autopsy said he had never seen such a large heart that was so perfect.

      Apparently 2.5 times larger than normal. It explains his huge girth …

      I think when records are broken they should not be more highly esteemed than the previous ones... unless they eventually last longer. This year, if Big Red's Triple Crown records still stand they will be 47 years old...and counting.

    I really appreciate how modest Ron Turcotte was. He was honest, too.

      Sham was Reds 1st cousin! Shams mom was Sequoia and was half sister to Something Royal, so both Red and Sham had Princequillo blood for distance. but only Red had Bold Ruler blood for speed! He was the perfect storm of genetics and we were blessed to witness it!
