Life long toyota nut here. Owned, built, wheeled and loved toyotas for over 35 years. The Ranger Raptor blows the TRD pro tacoma out of the water. Just ordered my first Ford in the Ranger Raptor because of this.

I own a Ranger raptor and I have so many issues with it, it’s been at dealer for a month getting fixed. Other owners have similar issues, don’t trust all these RUclips reviews. They have the car for a little bit only and can’t assess everything or mention some of the things people will notice. I wish I got a Toyota instead now. Here’s my running list of issues.
      -Panel gaps (tailgate also misaligned)
-drivers side doors don’t close unless slammed
      -rust under body
-creaking sounds from dash when turning or hitting bumps, if you push on passenger side panel it stops
      -loose front center speaker
-leather on seats has improper alignment
      -loud squealing sound from brakes
-part above rear view mirror flapping

@MalikPhotography sounds like the new tacomas I went and looked at. Thanks for the input. I have heard of folks having the door closure issues. I certainly won't be accepting it if it has any of these issues as most sound like they were there all along. My point from my original comment though is that toyota has way over priced their new tacoma, switched to a shared platform and moved their manufacturing to Mexico, These are things that should have dramatically lowered manufacturing costs yet the price is way up? Quality is quickly proving to be way down already. Toyota is basically on par with Ford chevy etc with quality and it is very disappointing as that is why most of us old timers always came back to toyota.. so the quality issues now being even you get WAY more for your money with the Ranger Raptor then the toyota...

Engine options for the Ranger in Australia are as follows.
    2.0 litre bi-turbo diesel
    3.0 litre twin turbo diesel
3.0 litre twin turbo petrol ( gasoline )
And our twin turbo petrol engine is the same power rating as the USA spec engine.
    Update to my comments.
I made an error in my KW - HP conversion for the twin turbo petrol and also I thought the 3.0ltre diesel was twin turbo when it is only a single turbo. But the power and torque figures in Australia are as follows
    1/. 2.0ltre bi-turbo diesel. 154kw (208hp ) & 500nm ( 300lb-ft ) torque.
    2/. 3.0ltre turbo diesel. 184kw ( 247hp ) & 600nm ( 444lb-ft ) torque.
    3/. 3.0ltre twin turbo petrol. 292kw ( 392hp ) & 583nm ( 431lb-ft ) torque.

Agreed - a person has some great choices for YR 2024 for mid size trucks. And I think just comes down to a personal choice. I purchased a GMC Canyon AT4X AEV two weeks ago and I really like the truck. I especially likes its stance; upgraded interior; and the standard upgraded audio system. I have found no issue withe 35 inch tires on the highway as the truck drives smooth with no excessive road nice. For me: which is just a personal preference, I preferred the GMC's front end design versus the Bison. Though again just a personal preference.

One of the best episodes guys, in fact going to Super Support now! Couple of things, I have the Mojave now for 3yrs, and a couple of reasons why I'm not going with another jeep, 1. Comfort, or lack thereof, it's just a horrible ride. 2. Lack of power trains, it's a dog, really. 3. Cost. Going ZR2, IMHO, best bang for buck. It was a toss up between that the the Ranger Raptor and the raptor worried me around reliability and a couple of cosmetic things I didn't like, agree that it's definitely not "raptor" worthy when it comes to body lines, etc (though that avalanche gray is one of the nicest colors IMO), lack of ac/heat vents in back seats, no sunroof, lack of physical nobs for lockers, etc among other things. When I drove the ZR2, it was like night and day difference in comfort to the Mojave but agree, the Mojave is one of the best offroad capable vehicles. I live in upstate, NY near Adirondacks and it's the snow belt and with the Mojave compared to other trucks I've owned, only used 4WD like 5 times since I've owned it in snow, it's a very capable beast but I'm' sure a lot of that has to do with the 33" Wildpeaks as well. As for costs right now in midsize, I think if we're in the $60s there's a problem there TBH. If you look at the AT4X AEV at almost $70k, the raptor is $80k for the full size, I would just do that really and you can get a ZR2 Silverado with Diesel for less than that. Any loving all the new content it's been great and helped me really formulate my decision on my purchase!

The raptor is better, however for the non flagships the Colorado does put up a fight. I kind of like the styling of the Tacoma and the price of the non flagship models seem reasonable until you consider the infamous Toyota tax and with its early problems, the reliability factor does not seem to matter as much. What kills the gm twins is the lack of an x drivetrain like a diesel, a hybrid or a v6 or I6. I have the Colorado Zr2 which I paid 56k out the door and I would've been willing to pay another 2-4k for a step up on either torque, hp, or mpg (I currently get 17mpg).

Can someone explain what Roman means when the 4High will crap?

    • @brianphillips8228
      @brianphillips8228 8 месяцев назад

The 4 high will CRAB. This means when in 4 high, the center differential is locked, making turns harder on dirt and very bad on pavement. Toyota makes vehicles with a limited slip center differential in the full time 4 wheel drive vehicles like the tacoma limited, lexus gx, or the new land cruiser. They do not make a Tacoma or a 4Runner with a full time 4 wheel drive with a limited slip (but lockable) center diff and a lockable rear differential. The new land cruiser and GX both have a lockable rear differential and a limited slip (but lockable) center differential. For the Tacoma and the 4 runner I believe that you can drive only in 2 wheel drive on the street.
For example, in my lexus GX it is full-time 4 wheel drive. It is never in 2 wheel drive unless something breaks. The center differential is limited slip, meaning it allows the rear axle and front axle to rotate at different speeds to allow it to turn on dirt and pavement as easy as if it was 2 wheel drive. This allows a vehicle to have very good all wheel drive on roads that are partially cleared of snow or ice, and allows for decent acceleration on wet roads without spinning out a tire and going nowhere when trying to merge into traffic or turning sharp. When I go off road with it, i can make sharp turns on trails and still be in 4 wheel drive. If I need more traction, I can engage the center differential, but it may "crab" in sharp trail turns because the front and rear axles turn the same speed with the center differential locked. The Tacomas allow either 2 wheel drive, or 4 wheel drive with the center differential locked. You can't (shouldn't) drive it on the street with it in 4 wheel drive. This also means that turns are harder in 4 wheel drive off road. The new Lexus GX and land cruiser kept the selectable center differential locker and added rear lockers. So, people that want to off road a lot may be choosing between a new GX, Land Cruiser, or buying a tacoma limited with the selectable center locker (then adding an aftermarket rear locker) to get the most capability on and off road, and ignoring the new, less capable Trail Hunter.
Overlanding in the U.S. is typically driving very far on paved roads to get to the location that you are then going to offroad. I'm in south TX. Most of the places I want to go to are states away. So I have to consider what to replace my 2012 GX with that is great on road, fuel efficient, and great off road, with good payload. The Toyota Land Cruiser had full time 4 wheel drive with a lockable center diff and a lockable rear diff. It has good road manners and is very fuel efficient. It also has a disconnectible front sway bar. It beats the Trailhunter models in payload and differentials. It beats the new GX in price, fuel efficiency, and ease of adding a lift. (GX has E-KDSS). If I bought a Land Cruiser, I could add a lift and tires and be done. If I wanted more cargo space, I would buy a new Tacoma Limited with the lockable center differential, add an aftermarket lockable rear differential, then add a lift and tires and have a more capable off roader than the new trailhunter and TRD Pro.

  • @wayneanderson991
    @wayneanderson991 8 месяцев назад

I would think from an off roading perspective that the hybrid power systems would deliver better fuel economy and better off road performance with the additional torque provided with the electric motor. For me the extra money for the hybrid system would be worth it if milage and performance is enhanced. Imagine what you could do with a raptor with a hybrid system and pro-power on board. You could power your camp as if you were at home. No generators to carry taking up space!

They didn’t include the supercharged Roush trucks that are backed by a factory warranty! When Roush did a Ranger it was tested at Baja against the competition and was the only one that still had its bed intact. No body ever talked about them and it was the closest to a Ranger raptor you could get in the states at the time. I owned a 2020 and it was fantastic off road the power was good and could be upgraded with a tune to give extra power 300+hp and torque 400lb +. I mean if it is backed by the factory warranty it should be included in the test. A friend of mine has a 4wheel drive Roush nitemare stock that beat a TRex even though the TRex has more horsepower. Of course if you can’t get that power to the ground it doesn’t matter how much power you have!

Hard to argue with the ZR2 for the best value to capability. Nobody can really compete. The pure, dedicated most capable? I agree with them on the Rubicon. But its reliability would limit to a wknd only vehicle. And I'm with Roman for the do it all and still be an excellent daily driver with mega miles on pavement, the Trailhunter. So many features the others lack. If you argue the Raptor is cheaper than you can argue the ZR2 is better than the Raptor because price is all that makes it better..

A stock ZR2 and AT4X can take you to the top of the world. Not many stock vehicles have that capability
Ford ranger has the best usable backseats out of all midsize.
AT4X vs ZR2 the AT4X has a HuD and power passenger seat. Really don't think they are worth another 7k

Ranger Raptor is the best in the segment. Best handling, most comfortable, best quality, and oh my god does it have the most performance. Gladiator sucks at everything but rock crawling, TNGA platform lost the one thing Toyota has going for its vehicles (“rEliAbILiTy”), and the Canyon/Colorado have zero quality or handling.

@@NathanDAdlen LOL, beef jerky is good! You are right Tommy and also Case are pretty straightforward too, it’s not that you aren’t and to be fair we all have tendencies to lean a certain direction, I am sure we vote alike and you are funny. I like the Ford HD Trucks, you get all the information needed to really know what’s going on with the truck and they are fast, real fast for a big truck.
In fact and in no small part because of TFL I ordered and finally received a: 2024 Ford F350 SRW HO 6.7 Platinum Tremor to tow a 2024 Brinkley 5th wheel RV it’s 42’ long and 18k pounds fully loaded. That Ike Gauntlet is an amazing test. In one of the videos I think I heard that was your idea to name it the Ike Gauntlet.
The 1200ft pounds of torque and 500hp is really what won me over. I was coming out of a 2020 Raptor so I wanted something fast that also had off road ability and an HD Truck. Due to your Power Wagon love I was looking at the Power Wagon until I found out it had no diesel option and no real payload. I had always kinda dismissed them because I was driving a Raptor.
Personally I think the GMC Denali looks best and the new AT4X is amazing but when I ordered my F350 they hadn’t opened the order books for the AT4X HD trucks. I saw one in person and they do look great. I raced him from a stop and won the short race to 60mph by a truck length. I am still happy with my purchase and would do the same if I had it to do again but the GMC’s do look a bit better from the front. The most important thing of all is, we aren’t taking any of this with us when we die. I hope you have certainty and know where you are going after. Jesus is the only way 😉.

Wranglers and Gladiators are too expensive IMO. And I for one don't care at all about the convertible ability of either. Realistically a very small percentage of people take the roof and doors off of either and they would probably sell nearly the same if they didn't have removable roofs and doors. It's the capability and style that sells them. IMO
