On the topic of Flygon movepool: It actually uses GUST in competitive on choice band sets to have at least someting for heracross and breloom. It doesn't even get aerial ace
Yeah that's crazy
that is just nucking futs...
I know it's a little stronger than flamethrower, but just a little. Still, it only works since they both have a x4 weakness to it. Funny how competitive is so strict that they'd rather sacrifice a move slot to have a chance to finish 2 of almost 400 pokemon die 1 turn quicker, even if it's not guaranteed, than put something like flamethrower which could possibly help it deal with many more opponents.
In competitive Pokemon, you should take account for every pokemon, they're even some sets that centers on counter one pokemon like landores -t in gen 5 or zacian
@@Alienldr tbf from like the almost 400 mons you only have like maybe 60 in flygons Tier? (Eliminate everything that isn't OU basically. And using a moveslot to get rid of two massive threats sounds way more reasonable.
I was very surprised that you didn't mentioned Metagross and his signature move Meteor Mash. Metagross will learn it at level 55, but if you delay Metang's evolution at level 45, it will learn it at level 50 which is super convenient if you are building Battle Tower or Battle Frontier team of level 50 Pokemon. You will end up with a level 50 Metagross with Meteor Mash, and if you build it and ev train it correctly, you can have a very strong Pokemon that can sweep through entire Battle Frontier.
Don't they automatically adjust the levels in Battle Frontier?
@@nunyabiznes33not in this gen. If you are above level 50, you can only play level 100 (Ruby/Sapphire) or open level 60-100 (Emerald).
Another noteworthy thing about Breloom is TM01: Focus Punch. The classic SporePunch Breloom, just two moves and you're all set.
Super good point
If you stick Substitute to it, it's even broken in competitive. Once, I swept a whole PvP match with SubSwordDanceSporePunch. I read every single one of his moves and ended forfeiting.
Finally an avid gen 3 enjoyer
Speaking of ninjask, in gen 3 and 4 if you wait to evolve nincada at level 25, ninjask will learn swords dance upon evolving and as a result, shedinja learns swords dance which it normally cannot get via level up
Also I should correct that in gen 3, nincada learns metal claw at level 38. In ORAS it does learn it at 21, and in gen 8 it learns it at 25 so for oras
Good catch, definitely had a brain fart there
Did they changed Shedinja getting whatever Ninjask have on evolving, in succeeding gens?
Bagon can learn dragon claw at lvl 49 and crunch at lvl 41 this is viable when running rash nature for battle frontier
To me it makes more sense for Vileplume to have Moonlight since the plant it's based on is normally in the shade and for Blossom to have Synthesis since it's a fully bloomed flower that dances in the sun
That actually makes a lot of sense and I did not think about that.
@@grumpygengar22 also Vileplume should have a move that repels wild Pokemon bcus again the plant it's based off of smell God Awful 🤢
I think this is a clever idea for a video! Blaziken & Swampert having flamethrower & hydro pump respectively locked behind their first forms is worth noting too!
You have a great voice for this kind of content, I hope to see your channel grow!
You could just buy the TM for flamethrower, not really worth it.
@@nintonintendo1 In a similar sense, having Swampert hold off on evolving from Mudkip isn't really worth it, either, mainly because the ground typing it gains is very useful to have, particularly for battling against Wattson and having a decent powered secondary STAB attack in mud shot at level 16
Oh man, I’m using a Breloom for the first time in my current playthrough and I learned the hard way about Spore.
Shroomish on its own was struggling to deal with most Pokémon, so I was pretty eager to evolve it and spent some time grinding in the wild to level it up. As soon as it evolved, I made sure to save the game and thought “great, now when can I learn spore?” which is when I learned that it can only learn it as Shroomish. Will keep that in mind for next time...
Breloom is still awesome without it at least. Even though I think it's worth it, that grind is still really rough haha
Yup, he's definitely still been an MVP. Funnily enough, my team is currently at the point (around level 50) where Shroomish would've learned Spore if I hadn't evolved it
Saaaame, will have to make do with Stun Spore then. Will maybe put a Shroomish in the daycare before I continue my journey perhaps.
well i learnt it in the really worst way possible.....i raised it to have 5 perfect ivs and was already ev trained and i saved after evolving into breloom....i also learnt in the worst way possibe that heart scale doesnt help you with that situation, which in my opinion, it should
I'd usually make it a habit to get a Shiftry to deal with Wally's Gardevoir at Victory Road. After learning Faint Attack, I'd have my Nuzleaf wait out evolving until level 49 for Extrasensory.
That being said, many stone-evolving Pokemon feel like noob traps the way their movepools get shafted upon evolving
Yeah I always thought that was strange.
Mudkip could also be mentioned, as in gen3, it‘s the only way swampert can learn Hydro Pump! :) but nice video overall, really like the idea, haven‘t seen this anywhere else before!!
Great video, i appreciate your knowledge.
I would've also added Nuzleaf, which can get Synthesis if you evolve Seedot at level 21.
There's really no cost to it, other than loosing Fake Out from Nuzleaf at level 19, but Synthesis makes Nuzleaf actually usable against Wattson, and SunnyBeam Shiftry gets a really good recovery move to really abuse the sun.
Seedot and Nuzleaf are rare, but in a Dark or Grass Types only Nuzlocke this could really help!
(In your video about Wattson, which i also liked, when talking about Nuzleaf you were fighting Wattson with only Dark Types, and your Nuzleaf didn't know Synthesis. Try again with this tip, if you didn't already figure it out)
That's a good one! And those tips are super helpful.
I have only one word for you sir....BRAVO!
Kinda off topic, but Masquerian and Ninjask got the short end of the sick when they weren't allowed to keep their unique types during evolution, just because at those times Pokémon with flying sprites needed to have the Flying type.
Yeah I really wish Masquerain could have kept his water typing.
Yes. Flying bugs MUST be flying type but we refuse to let you Fly on them.. sucg solid logic.
@@gillriet773 "Flying bugs MUST be flying type"
Beedrill, Venomoth, Dustox and Volcarona (plus probably more): 🙄
An honorable mention would be Nidorina. Nidorina learns Flatter at level 43. It is a pretty decent confusion move as long as the opponent is a physical attacker.
Didn't even realize, that's pretty cool!
Too bad you can't find wild Nidoran/Nidorina in Hoenn. Good thing to keep in mind for FRLG tho! ...or maybe not since I don't remember the level caps :/
There is a glitch where if you evolve nincada at exactly the level ninjask learns swords dance, shedinja will learn it too, which is helpful for speeding up fights shedinja can absolutely destroy, like Juan and his kingdra. That level is only 25, which only misses out on Wattson, but if you pick mudkip, his fight is free anyways.
I once kept a mudkip unevolved until lilycove city in a sapphire nuzlocke so it would learn hydro pump
I don't really remember at which level is the elite 4, but that level for a shroomish isn't kinda waiting too much?
Also I remember that most pokemon who evolve with stones basically stop learning good moves, like vulpix
Yep, generally you have to wait until the 40s to get stuff like Flamethrower for example. The level cap for Emerald should be 58 so Shroomish will get it just in time, but whether or not it's worth it for most people will definitely vary. It is a very long wait.
Thankfully in ORAS it learns Spore at level 40, which is lower than even the final Maxie/Archie battle. Plenty of opportunities to use it in battle after that. Sadly Focus Punch isn't nearly as available as in RSE, but while it'd be much cooler and more fun with it, it doesn't need it to sweep with Spore.
The first pokemon of the first elite 4 is level 48.
By the time you get spore, you won't even use it much.
I’ve requested this topic so many times to another pokétuber and I’m glad to see that finally someone makes a video about this! I had shroomish with Spore and Ninjask with swords dance in mind.
Good vid This series has great potential, pls make more!
Collecting my ticket here before this fellow becomes the next big Poketuber. Keep up the excellent content!
Just subscribed! Gen 3 content... noticing the things I always do... great!
You could definitely make a whole series on this, especially for other gens!
Like even though it sucks, Wingull, a special pokemon in gen 4+ gets AIR SLASH AT 40 IN ORAS. FRICKIN 40. But a 75 power move is amazing
I plan on it :)
Metang also learn Meteor Mash if you din't evolve him.
2:02 I used a Vioploom in my crystal playthrough and waited till level 44 to get petal dance which it can't get once I use the stone to evolve it
This dude really used a master ball on a surskit
Great video idea hope you do more
Lotad learns more moves if not evolved
I think it’s pretty funny how at the beginning of your video I was thinking about Masquerain learning bubble beam and you brought it up second lol. Really wished they treated bug types a little better in Ruby and Saphire back then
Totally agree
Ah, the days where there was some decision making involved as to whether to evolve a Pokémon or not. Admittedly, until Gen 5 I would often delay my Pokémon evolutions because I felt I hadn't had enough time with there earlier stages. You can blame the anime for giving me that impression.
1:02 - Grovyle doesn't get Leaf Blade until Lv29!? I thought he got it around his evolution level of 16, like how Combusken get's Double Kick and Marshstomp gets Mud Shot.
1:23 - Always wanted to use a Surskit/Masquerain. It always a shame that it lost it's unique Bug/Water typing. Also, another Pokémon that benefited from the Attack/Special split.
3:25 - The other advantage is that you use Vibrava for a lot less time. I don't know the exact reason but when I used one in White 2, Vibrava always felt lacklustre compared to both it's evolution (naturally) and even it's younger stage.
Yeah by the time you get Leaf Blade it feels like Grovyle is about to evolve soon. You spend so much time with him without it that he just feels bad to play with.
I wanted Masquerain to be good so bad haha. I really like his design, and yeah I'm salty they didn't keep the Bug-Water combination. We already have a million Bug-Flying mons out there.
@@grumpygengar22 Treeko's the only Hoenn starter I've never used so it's always a surprise when I learn new things about the Pokémon.
Surskit was such a tricky Pokémon to obtain as well so the fact it's evolution has a lacklustre typing and move-pool doesn't help. They really seemed obsessed with Bug/Flying typing for a while, despite how they were perfectly fine having non-flying bugs capable of flight. Though speaking of Masquerain, I always found Guzma's Masquerain to be a challenge... just his Masquerain. Thanks for the reply!
@@grinbrothers Considering they buffed Masquerain in Gen 7 (and by a lot), I'm not surprised.
@@grinbrothers I think the reason why you felt that Vibrava felt underwhelming compared to Trapinch is because if you didn't know, it actually has a weaker attack stat when it evolves to it's second form. Also, even though Flygon is better overall, it actually has the same base attack stat as Trapinch, with both Pokemon having base 100 in that stat
@@robertlupa8273 Yeah, my younger brother teased me about struggling against Masquerain... then in his Ultra Sun playthrough, he suddenly struggled against Guzma's Masquerain.
As a Bug type fan, it's always nice when they get buffs. Now if only my fave Pokémon of all, Kricketune, could get some.
Great video bro😊😊
Don't ever stop making these high quality gen 3 videos
whats up 🤙🏼. shiftry is my all time fav pokemon. so it sucks leveling up nuzleaf to 49 in order to get extrasensory smh lol
Great vid, but in all fairness, if I'm using a Surskit/Masquerain in a run, I'm trading over one that's been bred to know Hydro Pump
That is fair
The physical/special split did not occur until Gen 4, and this is Gen 3.
Yes
don’t forget, delaying mudkip you can learn hydro pump
Classic
I always delay evolving my Marshtomp until lvl 46 so it get's EQ earlier :)
Oooo that's a good one!
Next Black/White edition
There's five in fire red and leaf green
1. Nidorino -> Nidoking
Horn attack at lv. 22 or horn drill at lv. 53
2. Growlithe -> Arcanine
Flamethrower at 49
3. Vulpix -> ninetails
Flamethrower at lv. 29
4. Eevee
/ \
Vaporeon Jolteon
Bite at lv. 30
5. Slowpoke -> Slowbro
Psychic at level 40
Do you ever get the wierd feeling that before ORAS Ninjask had to wait to Lv38 for Metal Claw, AND LV45 FOR DIG
Mudkip Hydro Pump
How do you evolve a lvl up mon after surpassing the level?
Marshtomp learns Earthquake @ level 46 and Metang learns Meteor Mash @ Level 50 for those who want to compete in the Battle Frontier in the Level 50 division.
Good tips!
do pokemon lose their abilities when they evolve? i want to try a farming build for some wild items with nincada
Some do and some don't. In the case of Nincada, it definitely loses its compound eyes ability when it evolves.
Would this be possible in a nuzlocke? (Especially the Spore/Shroomish)
Yes! Just very tedious for Shroomish in particular, but Spore does come in time for the Pokemon league.
Talk about this in terms of ultraviolet or at least FireRed and LeafGreen?
Yep, I'll get to them eventually
Vulpix gets confuse Ray
Isn't Spore also an egg move for Shroomish? Also wasn't there a mechanic where if both parents have the move that the baby can also learn via level up, the baby would start with that move? I vaguely remember trying to breed for Shroomish that start with Spore but got lazy midway.
I'm not sure off the top of my head but I'm sure it's possible
@@grumpygengar22 I checked Bulbapedia, it's not an egg move. Level up breeding turns out to be a thing tho. I remember now, I was trying to do it in Sapphire so I can send a baby Shroom with Spore to Emerald.
so it means, i need to hold Treeko untill it learn Giga Drain?
If there's one thing the anime gets right about the games, is that it's worth it not evolving pokemon.
oh no ninjax is already level 60 i didnt know hold off evolution lets you learn more moves haha.
how about the seedot and lotad line.
Those are good ones!
