      this is a little lame but, i really enjoy using Sturdy pokemon. While rock types have a lot of problems (way too many common weaknesses, generally poor speed, very susceptable to special moves in general, most stab moves have poor distribution and bad accuracy, to name a few), i tend to really gravitate Rock type pokemons' designs, and i love being sure that i can never be OHKO'd. genuinely a great ability!

    Trace is useful early game if you have Ralts because none of it's moves can damage wild poochenya in the early routes. Also fun fact Poochenya almost always have run away. So you can always run away from it if you need to by tracing it's ability. That also makes poochenya routes safe for trace Ralts.

    • @Shape1425
      @Shape1425 Год назад +2

      Why run away when you can just switch it to your starter pokemon to sweep poochy and get XP for both of your ralts and your starter. I mean getting your Starter to level 10 or higher is not that hard. Maybe when you are in emergency with all of your pokemon are died except for ralts, well i guess it could be usefull but most of the time ralts can just outspeed and run away.

    Magnet Pull is actually C tier because you can delay the Route 113 encounter, get a Magnemite in New Mauville and then try and nab a Skarmory eheh. It's leagues better than Spinda, Slugma or Sandshrew, so it might be worth the shot

    Trace has its uses. If you know what abilities your enemy has, Trace works very well. Like for instance, Gyarados. You know it always has Intimidate, so send Gardevior out for a free -1. Tate and Liza in Emerald start with Xatu and Claydol. If you are lucky, you can blank and tank Claydol’s Earthquake while defeating Xatu with Shock Wave or Thunderbolt. Tracing Swift Swim from Juan’s Luvdisc lets you easily set up 1 calm mind and sweep his team if he sets up rain. Similarly you can use it to Trace Thick Fat vs Glacia. Tracing Sand Veil in the desert makes you immune to Sandstorm chip damage.
    In one of my runs, it was quite amazing to Trace Intimidate on Sydney, lowering Mightyena’s attack so I can clean swap into Hariyama to destroy a good amount of his team with Vital Throw, before swapping in a Persim Berry Absol, setting up Swords Dance and ending up +4 from Swagger to sweep the rest of his team with Slash.

    If keceleon can get the move skill swap, you could then equip it with different moves that are super effective against eachother. Otherwise color change is still bad.
    Edit: Just checked. So Kecleon can learn skill swap. Then, although not a perfect chain, you can teach it 3 other moves that can make some super effective hits.

    Kinda want to give my two cents on Magnet Pull really quick, if you delay your encounter on Route 113 until you get Magnemite with Magnet Pull you do increase your odds of finding Skarmory in Emerald and Skarmory was a big help in most of my nuzlockes other than that yeah, I do agree with your placement in the tier list

    Imagine showing a competitive player the 3 min in tier list without any context (Battle Armor in S and Arena Trap in D), they'd have an aneurysm. Of course it makes perfect sense in context but I thought it was funny.
    About Keen Eye and sandstorm: it doesn't work there either, sandstorm by itself does not lower accuracy. The reason why you sometimes miss the enemy in the desert route is because half the encounters there come with Sand Veil, and unfortunately Keen Eye does not ignore it (it's even used as an example in the Bulbapedia page for Keen Eye)

    I'm actually a big advocate for Trace, even if only Gardevoir gets it. Even before Gardevoir's ascension to a goated Psychic/Fairy type that went from fearing dark types to stomping them into the pavement, Trace is still pretty good. I'm unsure how many Pokemon you face down get abilities like Volt Absorb, Flash Fire, etc; but Tracing those usually completely stuffs the Pokemon you're facing since the type they absorb tends to be one of if not their only STAB.
    It's definitely better in later gens (who would've thought) since more Pokemon with more abiltiies means more chances to troll with Trace. You can do things like Trace Sheer Force to boost Gardevoir's Psychic, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt...(in later gens, Moonblast and Mystical Fire)
    However I feel like the most practical utility is being able to come in on Intimidate Pokemon and bounce their Intimidate back at them, to ensure safer KOs and even maybe set up opportunities with Calm Mind. Since Intimidate mons also tend to be physical attackers.

    • @jimmymeisterich8564

    I kind of hate synchronize, because nine times out of ten, even in gen 3 when electric types can be paralyzed, it will fail because most Pokemon who inflict poison and burn are going to be poison or fire type and therefore immune to the status. Magnet Pull is actually better than you think it is. Here's why:
    -Skarmory is a pretty good encounter you don't usually get because of how rare it is. If you delay route 113 encounter until beating Norman, you can pretty much guarantee this encounter, because chances go up from 5% to a whopping 50%, that can be increased even further if you catched Slugma previously. Not to mention Spinda is garbage.
    -Sturdy is completely useless, you don't have any reason to prefer it over Magnet Pull.
    -Sending Magneton to fight against a steel-type is such a bad idea that you should be punished for doing so.

    kecleon is not bad. it pretty much solo'd wallace for me. color change was especially useful since most of his moves are resisted by water. sometimes it's bad (like against drake) but kecleon's special tankiness is quite handy.
    other points:
    - i can't believe you considered cloud nine for a
    - lightningrod is d for sure, how many double battles against electric moves do you think there are? and how many of them do you think are difficult enough to actually warrant this ability?
    - sand stream is not s. it's great competitively but it just sounds like a nightmare in-game. you basically have to build your team around it or else everything is slowly getting chipped down. imagine something barely surviving a hit only to die to sandstorm. it's nice if you plan on soloing with ttar but that's not always practical. i'd give it a or b. in later gens with more sand buffs/abusers you could make a case to bump it higher.
    - everything that gets sand veil sucks, lol
    - soundproof - blocks roar. can help you catch a mightyena (which you think is good.) gimme my money!
    - i have no idea why you hype up walrein's 8x resistance to ice. 4x is enough.
    - i don't think water veil should be so high. the only water type you get before flannery is goldeen which sucks anyways. after that the only thing i can really think of is will-o-wisp on phoebe but that's like one whole trainer for water veil huntail/wailord to deal with. furthermore, these pokemon will probably be specially oriented anyways so mitigating the attack drop isn't very relevant. obviously avoiding the burn chip is quite good but burn is so rare it's just way too niche.
    - thanks for reading, i hope i don't sound too harsh.

    • @grumpygengar22
      @grumpygengar22  Год назад

      Not at all, I appreciate the comment!
      - I have no idea what I was thinking with Cloud Nine either.. it sounded nice in my head but the idea become worse and worse the more I sat on it.
      - While you're right about soundproof, that scenario will alost never happen in a nuzlocke setting since your chances of running into a poochyena before it learns roar is very high. No dollar for you! Haha
      - the only reason I give a little bit of credit to lightning rod is for the few double battles on the later water routes that have Manectrics. There's 2 or 3 of them I believe, and those random trainers are actually capable of ending your run. With that being said it is still very niche I suppose.
      All good points!
