Hi Mr Droomish, I have a feeling that your channel is about to get a lot bigger very quickly. Your recent shorts were recommended to me, someone who has not watched Pokémon content in a good while. This lead me to your main vids and then subbing. If it happened to me then my guess is it's happening to loads of people. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I remember I was at my sisters soccer game as a kid when I first encountered Raikou in FireRed. I kept tracking it, trying to ultimately catch it; until it used Roar. I checked the PokeDex and saw Area Unknown. I panicked and luckily turned off my game without saving. However, it wouldn’t be until my senior year of college twelve years later when I would ultimately find Raikou again and catch it. Shame it had bad stats.
Ah, I wish you mentioned the Latias and Latios glitch in Emerald that makes you able to catch trainers pokemon if you knock out Lati@s. This has been done to shiny hunt in the battle tower.
just want to say I appreciate the pacing of this video, espeically the intro. really hooked me in without any bs. so many youtubers can't get that right. I didn't have to 2x speed ur video is essentially what im saying XD
0:34 And that's why people actually despise roaming legendaries. They're hard not only to track, but to do anything meaningful to them. Glad they stopped that trend in gen 5.
Learning about this was so vindicating! A year or two ago, I was playing through Pokemon UltraViolet (FireRed, but all 386 Pokemon of the time are obtainable with no tricks or trading), and found myself completely unable to find or even track Raikou in the Pokedex after my first encounter with him. I ended up having to hack the game and manually add Raikou as a spawn on Route 1, without ever knowing what had gone wrong. I don't remember specifically, but he must have used Roar on me and deleted himself. Thanks for the informative video!
On the note of catching legendaries theres one spot where two routes are together and you simply have to move one space to the side to change routes. I used that to my advantage since they change places whenever you change routes. Made catching them super fast. Probably had them all within an hour or maybe two.
@@JayceCH. Work smart not hard....I noticed that way back in the 90s. On the map there were two routes next to each other with no town or otherwise breaking them up. Found the border between both. Checked map saw the icone...moved once I saw them change. I knew then and there this is where I'll hunt them. Took way less time to get these than the originals in Red/Blue...
I really love roaming legendaries, the dopamine hit as a kid was unreal. It would have you geeked out for hours, recalling the encounter in your head over and over. Then finally catching them is like a big sense of accomplishment. Like I can still imagine my hands shaking, dropping my gameboy on my bed. But then they quickly became box Pokémon trophies. 😅 I was kinda disappointed but still happy I got a rare Pokémon but for them to be so weak. Like I always remember them being weak and was shocked that they are valuable competitively. Lol 😂 Thanks for the video, you scratched a long forgotten itch. 👌🏽

@@droomish1 Southern island latios carried me through much of the battle frontier. Calm Mind + Recover on a pokemon bulkier than alakazam is very powerful.
A similar thing happened in gen 2 but never made it to cartridge. There was a cancelled event for the mythical Pokémon Sploink in which they used a unique calculation for your shiny odds based off of your trainer ID instead of the random chance. This made it functionally impossible to earn a shiny sploink from the event unless your trainer name was exactly "funnelkaek" however because this exceeded the maximum number of characters for your name, shiny Sploink would have been unobtainable.
Idk what I did or if my copy of pokemon gold was bugged but I was able to bred legendary pokemon I never knew you couldn't until people told me you couldn't atleast they couldn't but I'd show show then the egg and it hatching a level 5 mewtwo or whatever I never understood why everyone wanted level 5 legendary for the longest time but that's because they could make it into the battle monster they want but I sadly traded that copy of gold for a copy of sapphire when that came out -_- I still haven't known anybody who has had this glitch happen to them
I had a glitch with the roaming Latios in Ruby that, to this day, I still have never seen anyone else encounter. As we all know, on a typical playthrough, you get Latios to begin roaming after defeating the champion and then interacting with the TV in your house. But for some reason, with my save file, this would happen *again* after I caught/defeated Latios. In other words, I could catch infinite Latios on the same save file, just by beating Steven again each time. Sadly, my childhood Ruby cartridge is long lost.
@@ShaftCommander What would I have to gain from lying about it? I don't care about internet likes, and if I did, I'd be spending my days reposting cat images on Reddit or something.

Areo bike + level 39 pokemon in first spot + Route above Slatport + bunny hop = roaming legendary with minimal effort.... that was at least what I did :P
God, no idea it was this bad! But when roaming legends work, it’s the funnest thing, like a little sidequest! I spent so many hours in HeartGold catching Raikou and Entei. Because the legendary beasts aren’t the strongest things, they don’t unbalance the game too much. (Save for that lvl curve-), and having legendaries join you adds to the immersion.
You really need a Pokemon like Haunter or Gengar to learn both 'mean look' and 'hypnosis' to even have somewhat a decent chance of catching it without a master ball. Maybe also have a Pokemon with 'false swipe' as well on standby.
I got all 3 by speed running the games during early covid lockdown. Transferred them over to emerald and they’re just cool to have, took me a total of 8hrs to get them all since I already had Entei in my childhood save file
When I was a kid, Roar was my least favorite move because of this crap. Though, I had no idea about the IV thing, and I like to think I know a lot about Gen 3. Cool video!
Shoutout to my friend Stan, who patiently entertained me over voicecall while I caught Entei in FireRed. Soooo many resets -Entei kept roaring. Eventually caught it and named it "Loud Boy". Also please make that T Shirt, and if you do, make it with different configurations (entei, leafgreen etc.) I have a mighty need
I made the mistake of saving after the Entei used roar in my first run before realising it had already gone poof. I wasn't even able to use a master ball on it because one of my siblings had used it earlier on a random wild pokemon.
I remember I got in the habit of calculating the IV's of My Pokemon back in generation 3 when I was the teenager still have time to do that kind of thing. I immediately noticed that my Raikou and Latios had incorrect stats because they both had zeros for their flat for Ivy's which meant that that couldn't be a coincidence more than likely
I feel bad for anyone that didn't know about the dup glitch back then. Was a complete stress saver after trying to catch the first couple the "right" way.
Id just go in and out of a route gateway until the pokemon moved back where I was already. Took a while to get it lined up but it got me lots of encounters.
I was traded a Shiny Suicune from a friend over a decade ago that I still have today. I never knew until now how it could be so unlucky to have 5 stats at 0 (all but HP), but it now makes perfect sense. I never played FRLG myself so I never knew about this...
It's hilarious to think that even unintentionally, Charizard received favoritism all the way back in Gen 3 by giving access to the only Beast without Roar.
Honestly, I expected a description of the algorithm which determines where the legendary beast moves next on the overworld map! Will that be in the sequel to this video? :)
If a game has roaming pokemon then you are saving the masterball for them and catching the box legendary the hard way. Even without the roar glitch in gen 3, it can be incredibly tedious to chase them down. (The only roamers that felt cool to me were Entie and Raiku in HGSS, probably because they had no glitches, you could directly see their locations on the map, and you would keep bumping into them when you had no reasonable way of catching them.)
Damn amazing video, I didn't know everything about ivs and evs back when I played these games. But I remember after diamond and pearl when I learned everything and transfered those, having all these 0ivs and I tried to soft reset them but still 0. And now I know why!
I remember specifically Tornadus in pokemon Black being really annoying, and i was still a kid so i didn't think of trapinch or something to prevent fleeing and my grand strategy became find Tornadus, battle him and throw one quick ball before he flees, pray, repeat
So... one thing is for sure I remember that glitch with the area unknown and how it had me freaking annoyed as a kid, but me I heard since when it said that it can spawn anywhere so I used to go off from place to place encountering pokemon after pokemon, and I swear to you, I did find that suicune while it said Area Unknown... could be mandela effect maybe but I dunno, although it is odd how i went through so many encounters but no shiny throughout all my fire red adventure...
hah, I wonder just how many kids encountered a g2 legend on that patch of grass in FRLG. LeafGreen was the first game I never reset, so that's also the only place I ever encountered Entei (in g3). I was specifically making my way to cerulean cave and ran out of repel like three steps from the shore, or something, idk it was 20y ago. I just know that I was surprised af to see a johto legend in my kanto game and the master ball I had intended to use on mewtwo instead got used for entei. who replaced the persian on my team. I... my young teams were more about heart than tactics. One time I ran through Sapphire with two Mightyena on my team because they were a mated pair in my head. xD
Nothing a gold bottle cap can't fix. 20 years or so later and assuming you have a bunch of old hardware and access to Transporter/Bank.... Edit: Scratch that, they aren't in Gen 9. Whoops.
Gen 3 roamers were such a mess. I don't dislike roamers in general but that generation is one of the iconic generations with roamers in it and it was horribly messed up
Not Gen 3, but I remember playing Pokémon Gold on my Gameboy Colour when I was like 10 years old. I put in over 200 hours and managed to catch Raikou, but never even saw Entei or Suicune. I remember walking east from Mahogany town and I got into a random battle in the patch of grass in the middle of the route. It was Entei, and the second I got into the battle my gameboy ran out of battery. To this day I’ve still never went back to Gen 2 out of pure hate for these ridiculous encounters.

Maybe this is the reason why the legend cats were added to Pokémon Colosseum.
Oh, this explains why, when I transferred my old Sapphire Latias to Gen 7, it had awful IVs. I thought me as a child I just had terrible luck!
For whatever reason, I couldn’t catch Latios in my Ruby file. Every time I would run into it, it’s HP was all the way down and my game would freeze when I’d throw a pokeball :(
This is awesome, I remember catching Latios FINALLY only for it to be kinda mid as a Pokémon. You should Link this video in the comments of your short on the 3 dogs! Or in general maybe putting out the long form video first then your short(s) on a similar topic, linking back to the long form. It could result in even more traction! Love your stuff man
Thanks, when you said that IVs were stored in 30 bits I got that 'ooooh that's why' moment.
Ok, I'm kinda glad I swapped my fully ev trained latias for a salamence at the last few battles in the battle tower now.
Wow, had no idea Raikou and Entei were glitched if you weren't prepared for them. And also never knew they all had nerfed stats. This is sad, but honestly Suicune still felt extremely good regardless, but I wonder how competitive players dealt with this issue back in the day.
By playing Colosseum
Competitive didnt exist until Gen 4 buddy.
That's wrong. Ev training and IV RNG manipulation/breeding was used a bunch for official Pokemon tournaments in gen 3.
@@SnowboardinNinja What official Pokemon tournaments were being run during that time? Also, did they even have the tools to RNG manipulate in the early 2000s?
Recurring gamebreaking bugs and oversights like this are probably why so many cheat devices were made back in the day.
I had leaf green and was supposed to find suicune but it never appeared after hours of grinding back in my childhood till the point i thought they are not even real.
For me yesterday I flew back to pallet from vermilion and then as I was leaving to go to route 1, my first encounter was suicine. This is after the whole game and I forgot about the annoying roaming legendaries when it just appeared
And I caught it with the masterball I saved.
The legendary beasts only appear after you beat the elite four in Fire Red and Leaf Green and depend on the starter you chose. Entei and Raikou have a really bad game breaking glitch where if they used Roar, they both disappear on your cartridge permanently
@@Kali_Krausehe had suicune so he’s probably just unlucky and never found it
All my friends said legendaries are Cartoon only, so when I caught an entei they accused me of owning a bootleg copy:p
It’s So Strange To Me That There’s An Unused Generation 3 Soundfont Version Of The Legendary Beast Battle Theme In Ruby & Sapphire, Yet It Wasn’t Used For Them In FireRed & LeafGreen.
This video got a shoutout from chuggaconroy!! Congrats mr sploink.
Hi Mr Droomish,
I have a feeling that your channel is about to get a lot bigger very quickly. Your recent shorts were recommended to me, someone who has not watched Pokémon content in a good while. This lead me to your main vids and then subbing. If it happened to me then my guess is it's happening to loads of people. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Love your choice of music from Pokemon Colosseum, underrated game imo
Great video, interesting information for sure, glad I didn’t lose Entei or Raikou to roar, anyways, keep it up!
And now I know why I could never find the fucking legendary dog... What a fucking horrible mechanic...
just want to say I appreciate the pacing of this video, espeically the intro. really hooked me in without any bs. so many youtubers can't get that right.
Thanks for the informative video!
im usually of the mind that IVs are not that important but when they are that bad it probably is pretty noticable
On the note of catching legendaries theres one spot where two routes are together and you simply have to move one space to the side to change routes. I used that to my advantage since they change places whenever you change routes. Made catching them super fast. Probably had them all within an hour or maybe two.
God forbid strategizing 😮. I swear, every other comment is stupid.
Was anyone else surprised when you put it to sleep and then was still able to run away?
I suspect this happened by it using an 8-bit copy instruction rather than a 32-bit copy instruction
Fascinating that suicine is unimpacted from a gen 3 glitch because of the existence of crystal version.
Lol 😂
Thanks for the video, you scratched a long forgotten itch. 👌🏽
I cannot believe all those hours spent trying to track down Entei were utterly wasted. AUUUGH
Fire red and leaf green got the shaft they could’ve atleast made the sprites move
i was minding my business in some tall grass and then an entei bit me! i used my bug spray but now ive decimated the population entirely! how do i fix?
Use at least 5% Deet bug deterrent
Good thing I got my latios at southern island and my legendary beasts in Orre.

@@droomish1 Southern island latios carried me through much of the battle frontier. Calm Mind + Recover on a pokemon bulkier than alakazam is very powerful.
Latios is so busted at the BF 😂😂
A similar thing happened in gen 2 but never made it to cartridge. There was a cancelled event for the mythical Pokémon Sploink in which they used a unique calculation for your shiny odds based off of your trainer ID instead of the random chance. This made it functionally impossible to earn a shiny sploink from the event unless your trainer name was exactly "funnelkaek" however because this exceeded the maximum number of characters for your name, shiny Sploink would have been unobtainable.
WOW, this definitely warrants more research and a deep dive from me

Idk what I did or if my copy of pokemon gold was bugged but I was able to bred legendary pokemon I never knew you couldn't until people told me you couldn't atleast they couldn't but I'd show show then the egg and it hatching a level 5 mewtwo or whatever I never understood why everyone wanted level 5 legendary for the longest time but that's because they could make it into the battle monster they want but I sadly traded that copy of gold for a copy of sapphire when that came out -_- I still haven't known anybody who has had this glitch happen to them

Very rare that I subscribe after only seeing one video but here we are. Great shit
Another banger vid! Love that RUclips always put a new vid of yours at the top of front page 😂 They finally do something right!
The Pokemon Company cannot program for shyte, and then they wonder why people cheated to get the Pokemon they paid for.
We see the mistakes but not the ingenious compression algorithm used to fit all the sprites into Gens 1 and 2.
This may just be a matter of the battery being dry. I bought a used copy of Ruby years ago to migrate pokèmon & this was present on mine as well.
Yeah. That definitely didn’t happen.

I remember my sister trying to catch the 3 dogs and specifically prepared a Gengar with Mean Look and then it used Roar anyway.
2:27 this patch of grass is memorable to me too, cause this is where I was tryna catch an Abra
I've gotten Suicune before. I remember getting it pretty quickly, but this roar glitch certainly explains the difficulty I've had finding the others.
I remember getting a Raikou in either silver or crystal and it glitch when i deployed it in battle to show a bulbasaur sprite. It also showed the pokedex entry for bulbasaur as well.
I wish the game had an NPC that gave the players a hint on getting a Pokémon with Mean Look or Block.
Thank you for finally aiding me to comprehend what IV means so clearly
Id just go in and out of a route gateway until the pokemon moved back where I was already. Took a while to get it lined up but it got me lots of encounters.
I was traded a Shiny Suicune from a friend over a decade ago that I still have today. I never knew until now how it could be so unlucky to have 5 stats at 0 (all but HP), but it now makes perfect sense. I never played FRLG myself so I never knew about this...
I was familiar with the roar despawn glitch, but I didn't know about the garbage IV error.
Never knew the IVs were justed like that. My original Ruby Latios has been my prized possession for battle towers for several gens
It's always a pleasure watching your videos!
hah, I wonder just how many kids encountered a g2 legend on that patch of grass in FRLG.
Whoops.
They are now
I don't think I ever encountered any of the Gen 3 roaming Legendaries, let alone caught them.
Omg I never knew this about the glitch in fireRed! Makes soooo much sense now.
Nowadays I save my master ball for these roaming Pokémon. If the game has multiple then first come, first served.
And later i trade more with myself.
Gen 3 roamers were such a mess. I don't dislike roamers in general but that generation is one of the iconic generations with roamers in it and it was horribly messed up
It's crazy that they went to such lengths to patch the berry glitch but not to patch this.
Had no idea that the legendary dogs were even in fire red
Not Gen 3, but I remember playing Pokémon Gold on my Gameboy Colour when I was like 10 years old. I put in over 200 hours and managed to catch Raikou, but never even saw Entei or Suicune.
I remember walking east from Mahogany town and I got into a random battle in the patch of grass in the middle of the route.
It was Entei, and the second I got into the battle my gameboy ran out of battery. To this day I’ve still never went back to Gen 2 out of pure hate for these ridiculous encounters.
I bred an Umbreon for hunting the legendary dogs. Give him mean look, thunderwave ,baton pass, and moonlight.
Mean look counters Roar. Baton pass to something with a type advantage. Catch
I used the Sapphire/Ruby Battle Tower glitch to get a perfect IV Timid Latias to use for the Emerald Battle Frontier. I only got the other roamers for the Pokedex.
