A sad situation I knew of; a Mexican national man had a common law marriage with a Mexican-American woman. She had a three year old daughter. There’s a lot more to this story, but denial, sexism, over-valuation of men in Mexican society all played a role in preventing this predator from being deported once he was on ICE’s radar. I’ll never forgive myself for allowing myself to be manipulated into advocating for his continued stay here. He drank himself to death, fortunately.
