    I bought a 2012 Mac book pro and it was my first proper Mac (I am 14 by the way) and I upgraded it to 16gb of ram and put a 512GB ssd in it and used open core legacy patcher to put Mac OS snoma on it, it runs really well.

    • @joshuat502
      @joshuat502 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@DarkHill43 no it runs quite quiet after i cleaned the fan and air vent, i also use macs speed fan control to keep the temps down and it still is quite quiet, sometimes the fans will kick up but not for long. the reason i use macs fan speed control it because without it it will get to 90c and than the fans will blast at max.

    Regards 2012 MBP thermals, if you're feeling brave drilling intake holes over the centre of the two fans will dramatically lower the temps for both CPU and GPU. It doesn't run any quieter under load but not feeling like it's going to catch fire is nice.

    I am watching this on my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro. I upgraded the ram to 16GB and the hard drive to a SSD on the day I bought it back in 2013. It has been running strong but is now showing its age. I have been researching which Mac to go for but I must admit I'm rather disappointed with the way Apple is conducting business. They have turned into a very greedy company.

    watching this video on a mid 2012 15 inch MacBook Pro 2.6ghz and hires screen lol, I do have a 1tb ssd and 16gb of ram, which still runs a bit slow sometimes, but the reapplication of thermal past really helped it to run bit longer, I will still keep it since I like collecting Macs and I would still use it for my music softwares since it's more than enough for it to handle them.

    Apple and other manufactures these days are locking people into hardware specifications. not being able to upgrade CPU, GPU, Ram and Storage forcing people to upgrade at the time of purchase. Apple has done this for years making options of 64gb vs 256gb with no middle ground, buy it now or pay for it later mentality. Further, it doesn't help the environment when you do not have the option to upgrade your computer later as you need it, simply toss it out an buy new. The only things they manufactures seem to recycle these days is packaging and people are star struck on how easy the packaging composes.
    Welcome to the throw away generation!

    Im planning to buy this laptop if I can find it for about 100-150 euros. I will put Linux on it as I dislike MacOS and Apple generally, but these old Macbooks have fascinated me really. I currently got a Macbook Air 2012 for free and I kinda like it. Your videos about old Macbooks are really helpful, thank you good sir

      Yeah there’s something endearing about them. I guess it’s the upgradeability and how sturdily built they are.

    Windows 10 runs really well on these unibody macbooks, i have it installed on my 17" 2009 Macbook Pro and it runs so smoothly, i bought this Macbook specifically to use it for Windows 10 but i'm also pleasantly surprised how well it works on Monterey. The seller i bought it from used a fake SSD so i had to replace it and start from Snow Leopard (i prefer the disk utility in snow leopard) then to El Capitan (which runs slow even with an SSD) and then to Monterey with the Open Core Legacy Patcher which runs quite well. I need the CD/DVD drive so it was also a deciding factor in the purchase one upside is that i can plug in my external microphone in the audio jack and it actually works unlike in my 2015 Macbook Pro, i tried everything and could never get it working so always had to record using an old iPhone SE. I have never brought any laptop outside i'm always afraid i will drop it or knock it over and break it so the battery life lasting 5 hours is fine and a huge improvement from my windows laptop so i'm happy for now.

      Windows use is one thing these old Intels are pretty unbeatable on.
      Perhaps if you’re using it indoors only a Desktop would do the job?
      Either way, good to hear you’re still finding a use for your 2015!

    Gently disagree with your punchline.... I have four of these, two running linux. Right to repair critical to me... I built three of these machines from various parts and by watching others' repair videos. Your own usage makes it sensible buying an m series. Just not for me.

      That’s absolutely fair. Everyone has their own use for each computer. My 2012 has outrun its course. I can imagine the next couple of years will be ok for those running 2012s that are still usable in their workflow.

    • @SterkeYerke5555
      @SterkeYerke5555 Месяц назад

      I know I'm replying quite late here, but be aware that you'll need enough storage for two OS'es when running bootcamp. You'll probably want to have at least 150GB free if you intend to run any games. Most MacBook Airs didn't come with a lot of storage, so you might have to upgrade the ssd (which luckily on a 2017 isn't all that expensive or hard to do). The MacBook Air in general doesn't really lend itself all too well for modern games because almost none of them were ever fitted with a powerful GPU, but you'll probably get away with less demanding titles. GTA V probably won't run that well, for example, but anything up to ~2012 should be okay (as should more modern indie titles and most emulators, remasters of older games, etc).

    I’m a bit of an odd case, I have a 2020 intel 13” mbp with the Touch Bar and better keyboard, I only use it for a site laptop so it’s fine. I’m curious how long apple will support it for…

      You know, I’ve never thought about that! I would suggest a year less than M1. Just speculation, but the iPhone 5S had support until iOS 12 I believe, when the 5C with less good hardware stopped at iOS 9… similar situation
