I don't know how to articulate this but I think in some aesthetic sense, Devin Townsend is at least half-comprised of the best sofa that you have ever read a book on

Always been a huge inspiration to me with your song writing, it's great to see how the instruments are a piece of that. Absolute genius with the ways the instruments are designed.
I'll tell anyone who's willing to listen, those Fluence Transcendence pickups are amazing. Devin's attention to detail really shines through with how they're designed and voiced. Incredibly versatile set for any guitar, including the third passive humbucker voicing that Devin doesn't use.
Genius takes time. True Genius--you Dev--get all the time you need. Love you man; carry on! Cheers from PDX.

I actually was looking at the Allan Holdsworth model, then heard you where working with Kissel, I thought to myself” I’ll wait… hopefully they do a sig” and it didn’t disappoint. Basically what you described, I wanted one for the same reason. I have my heavy guitars, but wanted something different. They look killer, saving up now for one.

I only could dream of all the cool gear you had and how you got your sound! Now its like 18 years (!) later and i'm watching you still geek out about the gear you love.

I love your new guitar!! Looks so organic and no non-sense! Love your music and your amazing voice...but I think that what i appreciate above all is your down to earth attitude, always very well though-through, and your sense of humour.
I find that I dont use something until I use it, really strange, but heh seems to work out in the end! Love ya Dev keep on keepin on. I always wondered what happened to that ESP Tele you used way back when, pre '00s? That's about the time you were coming down from that whole Japan trip, immediately prior to when I started work on the HDR site. ESPs back in those days were something else.

I've been admiring the rainbow Stormbender. I think its the one I'm thinking of. That black one is also cool. I just love the look of it and you said it had a "heavy" tone.

It IS a great guitar - the Neo!! Im in the market for a 2nd Kiesel myself and that is very high on my list - I love the Om logo inlay.
Could you do a studio tour for us? I know I'd be interested in all the gear.

It's a whole new video series he has coming our way called Ruby Quaker. Wouldn't rule out a Ziltoid cameo, though.

I think we can all agree the most important piece of gear in that studio is that sweater.
The idea of gear exclusivity baffles me to some extent because there are so many companies making great tools. Limiting yourself to just a handful of companies seems...well, limiting. I guess it's the price you pay to have exactly the right tool(s) made for you for exactly the right project(s).
The Kiesel Neo looks like the most comfortable guitar ever built. I didn't get it until i saw you lean back and snuggle it like a puppy. I can see why that type of design lends itself to endlessly playing and writing.
The Stormbender is a dream guitar for me. I WILL own one someday, and not the lowest tier one they do with the tune o matic bridge, but one with the right pickups and the evertune.
Last thing i'll say is that i'm surprised you didn't just work with Framus to make what became the Neo for you considering some of the crazy guitars they've made with you like the V with the fog machine and lasers, the AK1974 with the backlit Mandelbrot fractal inlay on the body, the Plank, or the solid body Mayfield. Surely if they'll go through those lengths to purpose build tools for an artist, they'd be able to make a headless something or other. I'm sure there's good reasons Kiesel made the Neo, but this is what goes through the mind of someone not privy to those reasons.
I prefer light guitars, but I love what Devin's all about.
It seems like the guitar labels are fighting over you to create guitars in collaboration with you. And I guess it´s not just because they can advertize it with your name, but also because, and indepentently from your success, they all know you´re a fantastic musician with a good ear, a good sense for quality and a good spirit. I imagine they must all really value your advice and help in creating quality instruments.

I got some of your picks a few months ago and I really dig em. The serrated edge reminds me of playing with a quarter, but much more comfortable. It adds a lot more character to notes.
Also, noticed the KSR - what’s the story with that? What applications are you using it for?
really hoping the NEO eventually can come with multiscale and 7 or 8 strings.... I am really drawn to it, but these days I need the mutliscale because I am so used to it (and also prefer how it looks as well) and usually at least a 7 string... fingers crossed.

Have you played ESP guitars? I overall get the best impression from them.
I've played gutiar for about 25 years, but I've never been able to afford a properly nice guitar.
I dream of some day having an ESP Cutom Eclipse. But they're osmething like $7'000, which is ridiculous.
Back in his earlier days he used ESP for a lot of years.
I was lucky to get an older 4-knob Eclipse standard (now E-II) second hand for a good price about 7 years ago and I love it.
I’d love a top end ESP but they’re well out of my price range

When looking for your Stormbender guitar, I find vesions ranging from about $1'500 to $5'000 dollar, on Thomann, and I don't understand what the huge difference is.
Cheaper ones are made like in China or something and they don't have his signature Fishmahn pickups.
Hey Devin, is there any chance of Framus updating the colours on the affordable Stormbender models?
Something that resembles the rainbow one, or the white models (those with the redwood or carbon fiber center pieces) would feel much closer to what I've seen you actually play on stage in the past couple of years - which kind of is the point of a signature model I feel.

His Fishman's are great, I wish they'd release the 7 string version
They exist, but seemingly the only way to get them is to spend €10,200 on a master built 7 string Stormbender (or to buy a custom built one for probably around double that). Maybe there's a way to special order them from Fishman by way of their customer service department.
@RubyRoks I asked Fishman and their reply was to tell me which model they started from in designing them, I don't remember the model but the specs were different than Devin's pickups so I didn't get them.
@@gabrielstevens41 Oof. Having talked with Ken at Fishman about Dev's pickups, I'd imagine the set they told you to get were the 7 string Moderns, as they're the closest thing to Dev's of their 7 string lineup. I guess buying a 7 string Stormbender is the only option for the real deal for now.
So I just pulled up the email and the rep suggested the classic open cores which honestly didn't make a lot of sense to me when I looked them up, especially since Dev's heavy sound is what I like about the 6 string version
@@gabrielstevens41 The classic open cores actually wouldn't be too far off. The biggest difference you'll notice with the Open Core classics compared to Dev's is a less aggressive preamp. There are other sonic differences, but they and the lower output can all largely be solved by putting an overdrive in front of the amp.

I dont smoke anymore. I just think of all the tactile things that could be made from hemp. They made a car fender from hemp and hit it with sledge hammer it didnt even dent. think it grows as a weed

@@JohnWiku It's weird to me that people obsess over guitar "tone wood" resonance. First of all wood is a TERRIBLE resonator, but also pickups are only designed to detect metal string vibration via the disturbances in the magnetic field. When a magnetic pickup amplifies sound wave resonance it means they've gone bad (microphonic) and the windings are rattling against each other. A guitar doesn't even need sound waves to work and the pickups would output a signal from magnetic vibrations in the vacuum of space!
I like how Dev apologetically says "I know it's a lot of guitars but it's my work" for his 5 or 6 guitars when so many shitty bedroom guitarists (like myself) who do no music work whatsoever have 5 or 10 or 20 or 40 or whatever guitars. 😆
