yup in 2004 I first heard Stengah and Sickening and I knew instantly that Meshuggah was different from all the rest. It's been a long journey since then and they don't disappoint! Ligature Marks is my new fave
After seeing them live twice recently, I’m convinced ‘God he sees in mirrors’ is currently their all time best song. Sh*ts heavy af, mind bending, and you physically cant sit still while listening to it.
Their heaviest song is Lethargica I'd say. They even slow it down live to make it heavier. Maybe the heaviest breakdown they've ever written is the straight 4/4 breakdown in I.
Came here to say this. The man picked by popularity, not actual heaviness. A better top 5 would be closer to this: 1. "I", that one part; 2. "Nebulous", outro that could very well be the theme for the end of the universe; 3. "Pravus" "VIOLAAAAAAAATE" brain melting breakdown; 4. "The Hurt That Finds You First", the absolute carnage that starts at around 2:20 and leads to a outro that sounds like it could swallow the sun; 5. "New Millenium Cyanide Christ", ending breakdown
We need some more recognition and love for "Concatenation". That shit is heavy. It's a different kind if heavy though; it's not "groovy heavy", it's more of a "holy fuck heavy"
Great cover man. Here's my top 5: 1. New Millenium Cyanide Christ (The breakdown on the live version is INSANE) 2. Demiurge 3. Broken Cog (The intro riff is literally just 2-0-0-2-0 but I find it so addicting) 4. Future Breed Machine 5. Bleed (Rational Gaze is close)
just wanted to note for rational gaze, multiple meters at the same time is polymeter. Polyrhythm is when they both start on the same 1 so a polyrhythm would have the 25 pattern begin again just as the 4/4 pattern begins which isnt the case in this song. Regardless, great work!
Nice not choosing Bleed. For me the best and most underrated Meshuggah riff (and record) is on their EP "I". The riff that comes after the breakdown at 8:40 is insane. It's the best drums/riff combo Meshuggah has ever produced, and the rest of the EP has better riffs than their last 3 albums combined to be honest... It is to me a veritable Meshuggah symphony. 21 min of pure joy.
IMO it would be Break those bones who sinews gave it motion, or the little bridge before the breakdown in lethargica. Great video though and good picks
Hard agree on your #1. It's my favorite Meshuggah song by far. However! The fact that the intro riff for "Our Rage Won't Die" and THAT riff from "Combustion" aren't on here makes me wonder if you've ever even heard them.
Nice. Meshuggah has been my all time favorites since 1995. I remember when everyone and I mean everyone I tried to get into Meshuggah’s response. “I just can’t get into it”. From 95 all the way to 2008 when everyone jumped on the bandwagon because of Bleed.
Great job with the riffs. Although pretty much anything Meshuggah is going to heavy af, I honestly don’t think that bleed is anywhere in the top 10. Future breed machine is one of my favorites, but I don’t think it’s necessarily one of the heaviest. I would say that The Abysmal Eye deserves a spot in the top 5, and demiurge might be my #1 pick for heaviest. Then again, there are multiple factors that make something heavy, and it can be pretty subjective. As a side note, Although a lot of people would equate “heavy” with lower pitches (tuning down or more strings). I think rhythms, tone, and riffs play a bigger part than a lot of metalheads realize. Even though people joke about the guitars having a million strings, I honestly think that the riff writing and Rythms are the core of what make meshuggah heavy, and the lower notes are just the icing on the cake. In my opinion, some of the bands that make it their whole goal to be heavier than everyone else (djent and those guys with the burping vocals) miss the whole point of what makes a song heavy. Just my opinion though.
Going to have to amend my previous statement a bit. Just gave future breed machine a re-listen and it’s somehow even more stupid hard than I remember, so I think it’s top 5 material. I would say that Dehumanization deserves a top 5 stop as well, and the entirety of catch 33 is just unfathomably hard.
Nice job. My top 5 fav heavy meshuggah riffs are 5. Phantoms ending 4. Electric red ending 3. Organic shadows middle jam 2. Closed eyes visuals solo 1. Spasm or Ligature marks...can't decide Bonus heavy riffs; -ending to I is crazy heavy -Corridor of chameleons has crazy heavy riffs
This guitar tune for Rationnal gaze is one the rare things that can claim to be perfection Great work, sincerely Edit : after the end of the video, subbed lmfao
I've always felt the Future Breed Machine is the most brutal, punishing Meshuggah riff. It has this weird almost out of sync feeling that makes it feel like it's trying to speed up but is being held back. Also, Rational Gaze and Demiurge are two of my favorite Meshuggah songs.
Meshuggah knows how to do polyrhythmns properly...Bands don't try to bind the rhythmns together to make them flow but Meshuggah actually does that. Quality plus for them.
In no particular order: ObZen (opening riff) Concatenation (Rare TraX Remix - slowed down and oh so much heavier.....) In Death Is Life Suffer In Truth Perpetual Black Second Bonus: Futile Bread Machine - that slaps hard AF 😜 There really is no definitive list though, everything they've done is insanely heavy by any definition.
Born in Dissonance fucking rips. Break Those Bones is criminally underrated.
Yeah great tune!
Born In Dissonance is one of my favorites! Sooooo satisfying 🔥
Break those Bones should be definitely up there, especially the section after the 2nd Verse right before the bass-only breakdown.
I agree with everything you just said. Lol that whole album is sick.
May the RUclips algorithm pick you 'cause the production quality in this video is just uhhh. I also agree with your first pick.
Thank you, may the yt gods bless us all. Followed be thy name 🙏
That's how I got here 😊
It’s working!
Bro...the percussive style of Meshuggah got me so hooked when I was younger. While everyone was all "slipknot or korn" I was like MESHUGGAH
yup in 2004 I first heard Stengah and Sickening and I knew instantly that Meshuggah was different from all the rest. It's been a long journey since then and they don't disappoint! Ligature Marks is my new fave
The song ObZen is one of my top songs, that opening riff just crushes me every time and I love it
My top 5 riffs of Meshuggah songs
1 Lethargica
2 Pravus
3 Born in dissonance
4 clockworks
5 corridor of chameleon
After seeing them live twice recently, I’m convinced ‘God he sees in mirrors’ is currently their all time best song. Sh*ts heavy af, mind bending, and you physically cant sit still while listening to it.
The hurt that finds you first is extremely heavy and underrated
Agreed, as the second riff starts ripping and as jens starts screaming i fucking lose it😂
The outro of that track sounds like it could swallow the sun whole. Fucking gigantic song.
Love how this track starts out super aggressive and ends on a chill vibe
“This f*cks” is just such good terminology for describing nasty riffs I use it often 🤘🏻
Keep it up!
Their heaviest song is Lethargica I'd say. They even slow it down live to make it heavier. Maybe the heaviest breakdown they've ever written is the straight 4/4 breakdown in I.
End riff to Electric Red would probably take my number one spot.
Awesome video! Personally my top 5 is completely different but I'm not mad at all because that's just how amazing Meshuggah is. Keep it up!
That's the best part about this band, there's too many good songs!
I love how you edit these, it makes it soooo much more engaging and really sets you apart
@@MessagesForTheFuture Thank you! Words like this really keep me going
I love your video filters and the captions lol it really keeps u entertained
This was really good. I personally would say the riff at 10:33 in “I” is the heaviest but oh well
HELL F.CKING YEAHHHHHHHH HAHAAAA
Right, I is the hardest hitting piece overall
Also Dehumanization riff from Catch 33 should have been here
agreed, that song has a couple broooootal parts
I is not only one of their best and most underrated songs, it is also one of their heaviest. I love the outro part!
Came here to say this. The man picked by popularity, not actual heaviness. A better top 5 would be closer to this:
1. "I", that one part;
2. "Nebulous", outro that could very well be the theme for the end of the universe;

4. "The Hurt That Finds You First", the absolute carnage that starts at around 2:20 and leads to a outro that sounds like it could swallow the sun;
5. "New Millenium Cyanide Christ", ending breakdown
Tdnis, phantoms, perpetual Black second, and dehumanization all go hard too
We need some more recognition and love for "Concatenation". That shit is heavy. It's a different kind if heavy though; it's not "groovy heavy", it's more of a "holy fuck heavy"
definitely a great song
Concatenation is incredible, it opens the album perfectly, pure chaos!!! It's Chaosphere after all lol
@rafanj824 Exactly. And Jens's vocals on that entire album are just nuts
I'm surprise I (10:33 riff) didn't make into the list. That riff could create a black hole.
It was a Gojira-vib, or conversely, Gojira has an I-vib :p Brutal stuff :)
that rational gaze guitar tone, is NOICE
Lethargica would've made my top 5 for sure.
Great song 💯
Great cover man. Here's my top 5:
1. New Millenium Cyanide Christ (The breakdown on the live version is INSANE)
2. Demiurge
3. Broken Cog (The intro riff is literally just 2-0-0-2-0 but I find it so addicting)
4. Future Breed Machine
5. Bleed (Rational Gaze is close)
I'd have picked a few different riffs but those are all solid picks. Break those bones whose sinews gave it motion is crushing.
YES!!!! I wish all born in dissonance enjoyers, a VERY lovely evening
just wanted to note for rational gaze, multiple meters at the same time is polymeter. Polyrhythm is when they both start on the same 1 so a polyrhythm would have the 25 pattern begin again just as the 4/4 pattern begins which isnt the case in this song. Regardless, great work!
My mistake, thank you for pointing that out. I'll know for next time 😅
The riffs in Pravus are relentless. Especially on the part where the vocals begin.
Pravus is the tits
obzen have one of he heaviest and groovy riffs from meshuggah, that song is criminaly underated
Bro gotta make a part 2. Amazing video and audio quality 🔥
Loved the video, but I seriously needed Dancers to a Discordant System to be here 😢❤
Born in Dissomance for me too, was pleasantly surprised 😊
Actual number 1: the literal entirety of Catch 33
Yep, especially In Death - Is Life. That polyrhythm just brings me to my knees every time.
@@shirty2 it’s In Death - Is Death for me. It’s a bad acid trip while perfectly sober
i genuinely enjoyed this video. cheers🤝🏽
Now do the top 5 heaviest meshuggah breakdowns!! There better be some Catch 33 in there ;)
Nice not choosing Bleed.
Great watch, Rational Gaze was my entry into extended range heavy
Great picks! Great picking, too! Please pick more songs to... Pick hard to? idk
🤣🤣
IMO it would be Break those bones who sinews gave it motion, or the little bridge before the breakdown in lethargica. Great video though and good picks
More like most famous Meshuggah songs tbh, but they are all so fucking heavy anyway
Good vid bro
Thanks man! There's way too many to choose from \M/
great video! you killed those riffs!
Thank you so much and thank you for the Sub!
Hard agree on your #1. It's my favorite Meshuggah song by far. However! The fact that the intro riff for "Our Rage Won't Die" and THAT riff from "Combustion" aren't on here makes me wonder if you've ever even heard them.
Awesome work, I bet meshuggah would be proud of it if they came across this especially Fredrik
@@Godless-Being Thank you so much! That means a lot 🙏
My number one is that break around the 3 and a half minute mark in Violet Sleep of Reason
I really liked the editing of this video! Keep going!
sick video man, also sick guitar. love meshuggah
Thank you man! Me too. Can't go wrong with an 7 string and Fishmans!
Nice. Meshuggah has been my all time favorites since 1995. I remember when everyone and I mean everyone I tried to get into Meshuggah’s response. “I just can’t get into it”. From 95 all the way to 2008 when everyone jumped on the bandwagon because of Bleed.
trip out in "Bleed" the coolest part is so simple...I'm not a musician, so had no idea what was going on
earned my sub, i love this band and this is honestly a great video keep it up man
Cool choices and clean playing. I think my number 1 choice would be Nostrum, that song is dark af
Great job with the riffs. Although pretty much anything Meshuggah is going to heavy af, I honestly don’t think that bleed is anywhere in the top 10. Future breed machine is one of my favorites, but I don’t think it’s necessarily one of the heaviest. Well-deserved first place bro
Thank you! It goes so hard
For me the middle breakdown of ObZen is the wildest fucking thing i have ever heard
Killer, awesome playing dude.
Really nice sound, great job!
Thanks a lot!
Hell yeah bro this is so underrated hope this channel blows up soon. Also the ending riff in humilative is super heavy you should listen to it
Thank you so much! I hope so too 😅 Will definitely check it out!
Fucking respect the Born in Dissonance love. Stengah deffinitely an honorable mention too.
Awesome video man, Loved the facts on screen! More please!
thats some tight ass stuff :D
Nice job. My top 5 fav heavy meshuggah riffs are
5. Phantoms ending
4. Electric red ending
3. Organic shadows middle jam
2. Closed eyes visuals solo
1. Spasm or Ligature marks...can't decide
Bonus heavy riffs;
-ending to I is crazy heavy
-Corridor of chameleons has crazy heavy riffs
good call on Ligature Marks
I have the same guitar and love how it plays
Yeah the higher end LTDs are weapons. Love this one
Bro, try to listen to Faultless from Immutable and plz tell me why it is so underrated
This is sick 👌
But every time Pravus is left out of these Meshuggah based videos it's criminal 😅
This is one is awesome!
Thank you!
what a cool video, man! you have a new sub. btw, i'd mention Stengah as a very heavy but also groovy riff
second riff of Perpetual Black Second is my #1 (HELD WITHIN THE VISUALISATION, THE CONTINUOUS RERUN etc.)
This guitar tune for Rationnal gaze is one the rare things that can claim to be perfection
Great work, sincerely
Edit : after the end of the video, subbed lmfao
Thank you so much!
Future Breed Machine will always be one of Meshuggah's top 5 heaviest riffs. Stengah, ObZen, and Break Those Bones are underrated.
Man, why do you have just a 162 followers, your technique is 🔥
Thank you man!
Light the shortening fuse would be at least an honorable mention for me
rational gaze has the best groove of all I think. always good to hear it
3 minutes 29 seconds into "Pravus". I will not be argued with.
Very very good Job. Great like👍💻👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
love this video
I've always felt the Future Breed Machine is the most brutal, punishing Meshuggah riff. It has this weird almost out of sync feeling that makes it feel like it's trying to speed up but is being held back. Also, Rational Gaze and Demiurge are two of my favorite Meshuggah songs.
The whole "I" track is filled with the heaviest Meshuggah riffs.
I think closed eyed visuals has the heaviest riff imo I would put it at number 1. Solid list!
wow, the moment when top 1 dropped was huge
It took 9 days for the algorithm to bless me.
Future Breed Machine might be my favorite Meshuggah song
Awesome songs man. You should do another one of these videos, would like to some Catch Thirty Three riffs in there
incredibly based, sum and dehumanization are some of my favorite meshuggah songs of all time
@@funnyperson4027 I haven't actually checked out those ones, I'll have a listen!
So many riffs but I thought stengah would’ve appeared.
cheeky, I like it
The outro of Marrow (4:42), and the rythm section of Stifled (2:41) 🎉 (metal confetty ... I guess that would be chaffs :p)
i love that born in dissonance was 1
About Demiurge: the Greek verb δημιουργώ = create. On this manner, δημιουργός = creator.
The opening riff for Obzen is disgustingly heavy
really cool video! I would have like it even more if the text wasnt right in front of your guitar xD (but fun to read tho)
War is an underrated gem
1:11 it’s actually 4/4
Meshuggah knows how to do polyrhythmns properly...Bands don't try to bind the rhythmns together to make them flow but Meshuggah actually does that. Quality plus for them.
Pravus needs to be on the list.
That snare is perfect! What drums are you using in this video?
Counter kit 😉 I highly recommend!
The breakdown in The Hurt That Finds You First should be 1. Great video still.
Dehumanization and Break Those Bones... There are no wrong answers here
In no particular order:
ObZen (opening riff)
Concatenation (Rare TraX Remix - slowed down and oh so much heavier.....)
In Death Is Life
Suffer In Truth
Perpetual Black Second
Bonus: Futile Bread Machine - that slaps hard AF 😜
There really is no definitive list though, everything they've done is insanely heavy by any definition.
Bleed is a great song, but I'd say it's not even a top 25 "heaviest" for Meshuggah. 😂
Great production, man.
ObZen and Perpetual Black Second or the mid riff in I Am Colossus are my heaviest
Nebulous
I also has some damn heavy riffs
Where is Perpetual black second?
Meshuggah - The Hurt That Finds You First
what about dancers to a discordant system thooo 😭 🙏
You forgot the opening riffs of Stengah and Obzen 🙂
